Revision as of 07:00, 15 September 2017

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 20:28 on 8 August 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in In the news

(edit conflict) I would not have made this change as this is not actually an error, and the title of the target is not stable (it's been moved twice recently and there is at least one move proposed), so making unnecessary edits (and forcing everyone to download the entire main page again because the cache has been purged) is very significantly less harmful than transfering a few bytes to go via a redirect. See also WP:NOTBROKEN. Thryduulf (talk) 15:51, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see that this has also been discussed earlier today. I don't have a opinion on this, but if there is a consensus on WP:NOTBROKEN can override WP:2R, I'll be supportive. Alex ShihTalk 16:01, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTBROKEN refers to single redirects, WP:2R to double redirects. Neither overrides the other. Thryduulf (talk) 16:30, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We should cut out the 2017 entirely in the blurb - it's implied and never included for the current year. So Singaporean presidential election. Modest Genius talk 16:20, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Changed to Singaporean presidential election. Thryduulf (talk) 16:30, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On ITNC Singapore was nominated BEFORE IOC...can we swap places?Lihaas (talk) 20:16, 14 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  •  Not done The order of nominations is not relevant. Per WP:ITN#Blurbs "Blurbs are posted in rough chronological order by the date when the event occurred. There is usually no effort made to be more specific than the date, and admins will generally not research the exact minute when an event occurred to make sure that multiple events that occurred on the same date are strictly in order. Please do not request that events be re-ordered unless the date itself is wrong." The Singaporean president was declared president-elect on 13 September and sworn in on 14 September, the IOC made their announcement on the 13th so the order is not incorrect, and it is common if multiple events happen on the same day for the one relating to the picture (the Singaporean president in this case) to be listed first.
