There is a sentence fragment in the POTD. Please make this edit to correct.&nbsp;<span class="nowrap">&mdash;አቤል ዳዊት<span class="t nihongo icon" style="color:#00e;text-decoration:none;padding:0 .1em;">?</span>(Janweh64) (talk)</span> 04:57, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
:About a third of our Pictures of the Day start with sentence fragments, and that article and this one are ambiguous about whether sentence fragments are bad, although this isn't the first objection. If there is a consensus to do away with sentence fragments at the beginning of Pictures of the Day, I suggest a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Picture of the day to settle it once and for all, not one day at a time. ::I understand, BUT... this sentence fragment is easily fixable. Does it hurt to fix it? I just don't have the proper access level to correct what is IMO an issue.&nbsp;<span class="nowrap">&mdash;አቤል ዳዊት<span class="t nihongo icon" style="color:#00e;text-decoration:none;padding:0 .1em;">?</span>(Janweh64) (talk)</span> 06:13, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
:::I would not be opposed to this in principle, but in my view the current version is easier to understand than the modified-to-avoid-fragment version. So I'm going to let this stand. Vanamonde (talk) 06:26, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
:::IMO, as an (extended) image caption, it should be a fragment. Makes it easier to parse exactly what the picture is about. ansh<span style="font-size:80%">666</span> 17:54, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
:::*Maybe not a third, but yes a decent portion start by identifying the subject where the subject's link to the body of the text is not readily apparent. That identification uses a sentence fragment for easier parsing. "This is what this is. Here's a bit more information about that subject". We could have a paragraph break between the two, but combining the SF and the first sentence with conjunctions just makes parsing the sentence difficult.&nbsp;—&nbsp;Chris Woodrich (talk) 23:55, 26 October 2017 (UTC)

Revision as of 07:02, 27 October 2017

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

 • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
 • Offer a correction if possible.
 • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
 • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 12:55 on 1 July 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
 • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
 • Do not use edit fully-protected on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
 • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
 • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
 • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

31 October is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Currently scheduled to appear on OTD on 31 October is Ninety-five Theses, but that article is scheduled to be the TFA that day so I think you will need to choose another article for OTD. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:47, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
