The station airs a Top 40 radio format. WAKZ competes with WHOT-FM "Hot 101". WAKZ has fellow Kiss FM sister stations in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. WAKZ also has a top 40 sister station as a non-KissFM brand WKDD (from nearby Akron).
