*Queue 2, 2nd last hook "that an overloaded Kiribati ferry, said to be carrying 88 passengers and 35 tons of coconuts, broke in half and sank last January?" I changed the article, [[MV Butiraoi]], to read tonnes per ref. Can someone pls check and change it in hook, ie from "tons" to "tonnes"? ![]() | Please post error reports regarding only what is currently or imminently on the Main Page. For general discussion about the Main Page, please use its talk page. |
![]() | Most issues relating to national variations of the English language have already been discussed here at length:

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 07:21 on 2 July 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

- "Shakespeare" - his own article states "His actual date of birth remains unknown, but is traditionally observed on 23 April, Saint George's Day.[15] " so the DoB should either not be used or should be tagged at RD as "uncertain" or something. I'm sure plenty of other people were definitely born on 23 April. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:51, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- but we’re noting his death year and date...”(d. 1616)” Ealdgyth - Talk 21:00, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, but we're not, because this section is called "ON THIS DAY", right? The Rambling Man (talk) 21:18, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616. Ealdgyth - Talk 21:20, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Not according to the article, as I've already noted. What an odd comment to make after I've already given you a direct quote from his article here which is what we are guiding our readers towards. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:22, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Our entry for OTD says "William Shakespeare (d. 1616)".... d.= died. In the article for WS - "Shakespeare died on 23 April 1616, at the age of 52." If the OTD was for his birth, it'd say "William Shakespeare (b. 1564)". The OTD entry is for his death, quite clearly. Do I need to include a screen shot to prove it's a "d." after the parentheses??? Ealdgyth - Talk 21:25, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- I read past the easy intro. Please take note of the quote I provided. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:27, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- TRM...I read the quote. I read the paragraph. You are still thinking that the OTD entry is about his birth. We know he was baptized in 1564. Please note the actual OTD entry on the main page, which I quoted. It is about his death date. It is for 1616, which is the year he died, thus I quoted the death date part of the Shakespeare article ...which says he died on 23 April. Ealdgyth - Talk 21:33, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Self destruct. Jet lag. Good bye TRM, multiple apologies all-round to everyone, especially you Ealdgyth.
- no worries, it’s easy to get them mixed up. I had to check and double check a couple of times myself. Ealdgyth - Talk 21:39, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- I was going to say delete, but feel free to let this stand as a testimony to the fact that, yes, even I, TRM, get things wrong once in a millennium. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:40, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

- The caption for the image "Library of Congress Building, Washington, D.C." is incorrect. It should read either "The original Library of Congress Building, Washington, D.C." or "The Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C." Thank you. - Battle of Mühlberg - about half is unreferenced and tagged inline. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:24, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- "Library of Congress Building, Washington, D.C." not sure that "Building" need that capitalisation, can't find another use like that in the article. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:27, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- ", a pillar in the development" this isn't wrong but it's not accessible English. Most people won't equate "pillar" here with, say, pillar. Can we rephrase to something like seminal work or similar? The Rambling Man (talk) 21:29, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- " U.S. servicemen " is unnecessarily piped to a redirect. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:30, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- "the hostages in the Iran hostage crisis." unfortunate repeat of "hostage" here, and the link to [[Operation Eagle Claw" doesn't even use "Iran hostage crisis" as an alternative name in the lead so why are we? The Rambling Man (talk) 21:31, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- 2013 Savar building collapse - the article says "a death toll of 1,134.[2] Approximately 2,500 injured people were rescued from the building alive" so let's use that, instead of a nebulous "over 1,100 deaths", and perhaps change "deaths" to "killed" so we don't repeat "death" when we say "deadliest"? - The claim about "Only 100,000 of the consoles were produced between its 1996 release and 1997 discontinuation." is either unreferenced or referenced to a blog which is not an RS. I think it's getting to the point where we need an RFC on the blurbs here needing to be verifiable. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:33, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

- (April 24) "In addition to Kuttner..." That name is not mentioned in the blurb prior to that (nor after that). Dyspeptic skeptic (talk) 00:48, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
