Where is the reliable source stating that the public flogging of Ana María Campos in September 1822 was the cause of her death from an epileptic fit in October 1828? Neither of the cited links in the article seem to say that she died "as a result of injuries from torture". :Hmmmm.... the first cited source says (rough translation) "[S]ome historians claim that she was bathing in the waters of Maracaibo Lake when she suffered an epilepsy attack, the product of the physical trauma from the torture, others claim that ... she went on a long journey and devastated by fatigue and physical breakdown, fell at the gates of a convent where he was attended by a doctor but soon died.". Tha second source says "She was 32 and never recovered from the brutal torture." That does seem a little weak for such a direct assertion. I've removed that portion of the blurb. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:17, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Revision as of 17:17, 17 October 2018

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

• Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
• Offer a correction if possible.
• References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
• Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 22:56 on 19 June 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
• Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
• Do not use edit fully-protected on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
• No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
• Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
• Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in In the news

• The article "Hurricane Michael" indicates 31 deaths in the USA, but "In the news" implies only 18. Axl ¤ [Talk] 12:24, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The article has 31 in the lead without any reference to that figure, or a reference for that figure, in the body of the article. That needs fixing first. Fish+Karate 13:12, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
• Kerch Polytechnic attack: Needs a comma after "Crimea". MOS:COMMA. Moscow Mule (talk) 16:53, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OTD today

• 1964 – Prime Minister of Australia Robert Menzies opened the artificial Lake Burley Griffin in the middle of the capital Canberra. — Needs a comma after capital, because it can only be Canberra. "Opened" is also a strange choice of verb to use for the commemoration of a lake. Modulus12 (talk) 07:37, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed the comma, please suggest a better word than 'opened', I can't think of one. Fish+Karate 09:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
• Is there a reason why OTD describes the Israeli as having been assassinated, but the Palestinian as a 'targeted killing'? That looks like double standards - better to call them both assassinations. Our targeted killing article acknowledges it as a euphemism for assassination. Modest Genius talk 10:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
• A targeted killing is (apparently) an assassination based on the presumption of criminal guilt. It is very much a euphemism, and one that Wikipedia has a nasty habit of perpetuating (for example, see the article on Abu Ali Mustafa. The OTD blurb is in line with the content of the source articles (so reflecting their language, whether that's perpetuating a bias or not, I leave to the reader). I've changed it to "death of Abu Ali Mustafa", which avoids a descriptor entirely. Fish+Karate 11:18, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
• " King David II of Scotland...led an invasion of England during the Hundred Years' War, but was captured in the Battle of Neville's Cross." But should be replaced with and, as there is nothing contradictory about the statement. Primergrey (talk) 11:32, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Being captured contradicts invading. Stephen 11:40, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all. He led an invasion and was captured. Primergrey (talk) 13:26, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
More importantly, our article states that the invasion began on 7 October, ten days before the battle. I suggest 'King David II of Scotland was captured in the Battle of Neville's Cross, during his invasion of England under the terms of Scotland's Auld Alliance with France.'. Modest Genius talk 14:01, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Reworded very slightly from Modest Genius's suggestion, to King David II of Scotland was captured in the Battle of Neville's Cross, following his invasion of England under the terms of Scotland's Auld Alliance with France, during the Hundred Years' War. Fish+Karate 14:21, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
• "1964 – Prime Minister of Australia Robert Menzies inaugurated the artificial Lake Burley Griffin in the middle of the capital, Canberra." - this needs to include (pictured) after "Lake Burley Griffin," since that is the image that is shown in the OTD section. --DannyS712 (talk) 15:38, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

• Study of a Young Girl - One sentence of the description doesn't match the image:
• Reads at present: "...The sitter is depicted as having a widely spaced and flat face..."
• Suggested correction: "...The sitter is depicted as having widely spaced eyes and a flat face..."
• Alternative suggestion: "...The sitter is depicted as having widely spaced features in a flat face..."
• -- Deborahjay (talk) 11:14, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done, went with the alternative as it's not just the eyes. Fish+Karate 12:54, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
