Kamareddy (KMR) (కామారెడ్డి) is one of the large business centers in Nizamabad district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Geography

Kamareddy is located at 18°19′00″N 78°21′00″E / 18.3167°N 78.3500°E / 18.3167; 78.3500.[1] It covers an area of 14.11 km2. It is 110 km from the state capital of Hyderabad and 55 km from district headquarters, Nizamabad. However, Kamareddy comes under the Zahirabad parliamentary constituency. The population was 64,496 as of the 2001 census.

Politics

  • Gampa Govardhan is the current elected MLA of Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS), who resigned from Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He was preceded by Mohd. Shabbir Ali. Mohd. Ali Shabbir Andhra Pradesh Congress Coordination Committee Member,Ex-Minister. In a recent by-elections Gampa Govardhan was reelected to the State Assembly with a huge majority of 44,465 votes over Yedla Raji Reedy of Congress(I).

Major languages spoken in this area are Telugu తెలుగు(with Telangana dialect, major language), Hindi, Urdu, Lambadi and English.

Rail transport

Kamareddy is a station located on the Kacheguda–Manmad section of Hyderabad (HYD) division of South Central Railway(SCR). Kamareddy has rail connectivity with major towns and cities in Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra. It takes approximately two hours from Secunderabad in an express train to reach Kamareddy.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Kamareddy had a population of 64,496. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kamareddy has an average literacy rate of >65%, male literacy is >74%, and female literacy is >56%. In Kamareddy, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Features

  • Kamareddy is the major business centre of the Nizamabad district, and has produced many businessmen of great acumen. Sri Rama constructions, Chatla group (a type of cigarette) industry hails from Kamareddy.
  • It is one of the largest producers of sugar, jaggery, different vegetables and turmeric.
  • Kamareddy is well known for tex tile/cloth business. Around 300 text tile business centers like Bombay Cloth House, Sri Durga Tex Tiles, Devi Silks etc. are located here.
  • Government Arts and Science College is the one of the oldest study centres in the state of AP which has a unique course of Dairy Engineering, to which students flock from various states.
  • Kamareddy has produced a handful of intellectuals and educators in various fields. Kokkonda Gangaiah, a mathematician, is one of them. Eminent Telugu poets like Ayachitam Nateshwara Sarma, Panduranga Sharma and Hindi poet Kishori Lal Vyas hailed from Kamareddy.
  • Kamareddy gave birth, name and fame to eminent engineers in power distribution and Agriculture Sciences: Narayana Gourani (Retd Deputy Director of Agriculture), Arun Veeramalli, Er.Balaraju, Er. Jeevan Pinnoji, Er. Syed Anwar, Er.Sanjeev Reddy and many more now in the utility and retired.
  • Winner of 'Nandi award for Best male comedian' for the year 2009 (for the movie Inkosaari) "Vennela" Kishore is also hailed from Kamareddy.
  • Kamareddy is one of the fastest growing towns in Telangana.

Transportation

Kamareddy is well known for its transportation. It has two bus stands (OLD and NEW ). Old bus stand is located in the town and new one located beside NH7. Kamareddy has a railway station with connectivity to most major stations in Andhra Pradesh, and Mumbai as well.

A railway line is now converted to broad gauge under Project Unigauge which now connects Manmad and Secunderabad.

Bus services are also available to capital city Hyderabad and district capital Nizamabad for every 5 minutes in day and for every 30 minutes at night after 12 am.
