{{PD-SDASM}} Hello,

For whatever obscure whim, I returned to Flickr and found another bunch of World War I pilots. If you would care to insert these into articles, here's the list:

Incidentally, Beckhardt's photo was misidentified as Hermann Gilly, so I removed it from the Gilly article. However, as Gilly never flew a Siemens-Schuckert D.IIInor had a personal insignia of a swastika, it is obviously a (poor) photo of Beckhardt.

I hope you will post these, as I seem to be moderately hopeless at the task.

File:Boelckeo.JPG

Please remember that you are "indefinitely prohibited from uploading images or other media files to the English Wikipedia." (from your Wikipedia:Editing restrictions). Your upload of a new version of File:Boelckeo.JPG is a violation of that restriction. Fram (talk) 14:58, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Take it to Arbitration, I do not see adjusting the contrast of an existing image as a violation. Thank you for your concern. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 15:20, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have no ambition to get you blocked for this. I don't think it is a smart move to test the boundaries of your restrictions though. Doing such things too often or too blatantly will get you blocked again, and for a longer time, and also reduce your chances of getting the restrictions lifted or modified. Fram (talk) 15:32, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Arbitration enforcement is not meant to be a punishment, it is designed to remedy a specific problem, which was uploading questionable content. If content is already vetted, and I adjust the contrast, it is not a violation of that restriction. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 15:37, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, our policies are meant to prevent copyright violations. Restrictions are meant to save people the effort of having to check every edit an editor makes to see whether it violates our policies. "You are not allowed to upload questionable content" (or "to link to copyright violations", and so on) are policies which apply to everyone. "You are not allowed to upload any files" is a restriction which is much more strict, and which only applies to you. Claiming that if an upload (or article creation, or whatever) doesn't violate our policies, it should be allowed, is ignoring your restrictions. Fram (talk) 15:45, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Then take it to arbitration, so it can be made clearer. I can see that it is bothering you greatly, so have it cleared up. I do not see it as a potential copyright violation. You certainly are the Javert of Wikipedia. So please take it to arbitration. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 15:57, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please keep your personal attacks to yourself. If I thought this was a copyright violation, you would have been at arbitration enforcement. I said that it was a restriction violation. I can't help you if you can't see the difference between those two. Fram (talk) 22:23, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You also see personal attacks when there are none ... --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 05:47, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comparing people to fictional characters who are described in the novel as "a fanatic" and "[he] was to be pitied, as is every ignorant man who triumphs." and by critics as "He is "one of the most tragic legalists in Western literature" and "the consummate legalist"." is a personal attack. That "[he] finds himself unable to reconcile his life's work pursuing criminals with the nobility and justice shown him by the man he thought was a criminal, and takes his own life by jumping off a bridge into the river Seine." (as our article describes it) only makes it worse. Fram (talk) 08:00, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You do seem to me to be a somewhat fanatical legalist. Fanatical in watching my every edit. Legalistic in declaring that altering the contrast of an existing image is a violation of the ban and that restoring someone else's edit is a copyright violation. You are looking for a "gotcha" moment to get me permanently blocked, I would say the moniker is apt. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 03:16, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard, re: the report on RfPP, you've been reverting a lot to restore that birth year. It might be best to leave it out until a wider consensus forms, especially as it might be the subject removing it, and you don't know which year is correct. Best, Sarah (SV) (talk) 02:29, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can you cite some actual Wikipedia policy that says 5 - 1 = 0? You are using the fallacy of false equivalency as your argument. The subjects of articles do not get to override Wikipedia policy. They want the publicity of being in Wikipedia and also want to be the editors and remove what they do not like. You cannot have it both ways. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 03:11, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're thinking of the content at Longevity myths or List of people reported to have lived beyond 130 (I don't know why 130). If the content was fleshed out (mythology, rumors, issues with inability to determine time properly) with actual secondary sources, I think the "incomplete" content could be merged into the myths article. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:40, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

JDR Parkway

Hi Richard. I was in discussion with several other users about the naming of the John D. Programmability of Colossus computer

Back in November 2012 you changed the description in the lead of this article from "was at all programmable" to "was programmable". I wasn't entirely happy with that, but let it be whilst I investigated further. Colossus is described by some as programmable, by others as "semi-programmable", and some deny that it was programmable in any modern sense. The way that it was set up to perform a particular task was by operating switches and plugging on a patch panel. I therefore plan to return to the "at all" wording and hope that you won't disagree. --TedColes (talk) 09:32, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

As written I have no idea what "at all programmable" means. It just sounds like poor grammar. Can't you think of a way to phrase it where it has some meaning to someone who is not involved with the debate. Can't you just say "programmable". --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 15:36, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please be cautious...

...when editing and commenting at Griffin. I just got my first ever ARB warning for a smiley face comment (all of 7 words) regarding another editor's mistaken comment about RS. edit. I see you received your gift from ARBCOM. Ironically, they can't imagine why we're seeing so many R-E-T-I-R-E-D banners across so many different user pages of GF editors. Well, maybe I can. Please do! --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 17:37, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to template you, Mr. Norton, but I think that you should not be reinserting your edits on Griffin after they've been reverted by others. In the case of the lede bit about Jekyll Island, I believe you've done this more than once now. Please self-revert. You may have engaged with this article unaware of the recent contentious history, but now that it's been pointed out to you in the wake of your edits, I hope you'll adjust your approach. At the least, I urge you to undo any of your edits which have reinserted text that others have reverted. Thanks. SPECIFICO talk 20:53, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia rules about potentially libellous labels cannot be overridden by consensus. "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libelous." --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:04, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A comment or two

I didn't want to mess up your TP with an entirely new section, so I scooted down so I wouldn't be associated with the above activity. I believe if you engage the interaction tool and feed it names, you will be enlightened by the harmony. But I imagine you already knew that considering the length of time you've been an editor. Just wondering - do you know if members of a cabal are subject to WP:OWN individually or as a group? I guess ARBCOM serves the aggregate but individuals are sentenced separately, right? NYT favor?

Our article on Frank R. Question about black lists

I don't get the concept, or why we even have such a thing. Can you provide some insight?

  1. What causes a site to be blacklisted?
  2. Who makes that determination?
  3. Once a site is blacklisted, can it be unblacklisted, and if so, what is the process?

Mullers

Enrique Muller was a photographer who was born in Germany(?) in 1846, and came to America. His son, Robert Enrique Muller, also known as "E. Muller", was also a photographer. In order to distinguish photographs taken by the father from photographs taken by the son (for purposes of categorization), it would be useful to know the father's date of death; might you be able to help out in this respect? Thanks in advance. DS (talk) 02:31, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an interesting article I found on the father or son: User:Richard Arthur Norton (1958- )/Enrique Muller
File:Enrique Muller in The Wilkes Barre Record May 10, 1912.jpg this probably the father's images. You can add it to the category if you think I am correct. The father would have been 67 years old, so maybe the son is the daredevil. I may have found the death date of the father but I am still not sure. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 19:58, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Octave Homberg (1876–1941)

Hi. Postscript to Template talk:Authority control#How many databases:

Wikidata pages are common for people who do have biographies in other-language wikipedias, such as Homberg-1876 — at French wp fr:Octave Homberg (1876-1941) and at Wikidata d:Q15969995. Re the latter, its WD page history shows that it was created automatically from the FR.wiki biography 12 months ago. Commonly such WD pages do carry useful authority identifiers, altho this one does not; maybe it's rare for those with unlabeled pagenames, [Q#########].

Bushnell

Another article I wrote as a result of the Chronicling America content is E. A. Bushnell — but the information I was able to find about him was rather limited. Do you think you might be able to do better? DS (talk) 19:23, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited E. A. Bushnell, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cuyahoga, Ohio (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Newspapers.com check-in

Hello Richard Arthur Norton (1958-),

You are receiving this message because you have a one-year subscription to Newspapers.com through the Wikipedia Library. This is a brief update, to remind you about that access:

  • Please make sure that you can still log in to your Newspapers.com account. If you are having trouble let me know.
  • Remember, if you find this source useful for your Wikipedia work, to include citations with links on Wikipedia. Links to partner resources are one of the few ways we can demonstrate usage and demand for accounts to our partners. The greater the linkage, the greater the likelihood a useful partnership will be renewed. Also, keep in mind that part of Newspapers.com is open access via the clipping function. Clippings allow you to identify particular articles, extract them from the original full sheet newspaper, and share them through unique URLs. Wikipedia users who click on a clipping link in your citation list will be able to access that particular article, and the full page of the paper if they come from the clipping, without needing to subscribe to Newspapers.com. For more information about how to use clippings, see http://www.newspapers.com/basics/#h-clips .
  • Do you write unusual articles using this partner's sources? Did access to this source create new opportunities for you in the Wikipedia community? If you have a unique story to share about your contributions, let me know and we can set up an opportunity for you to write a blog post about your work with one of our partner's resources.

Finally, we would greatly appreciate it if you filled out this short survey. Your input will help us to facilitate this particular partnership, and to discover what other partnerships and services the Wikipedia Library can offer.

Thank you,

Hmm

Out of curiosity... the fact that you created a draft on Algernon Edward Sartoris within 24 hours of my having uploaded a photo of Mr Sartoris's wife (fiancee?)... is that a coincidence? DS (talk) 16:33, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you working on the Library of Congress Flickr Commons project too? I was just about to upload the same photo, I just downloaded it. I add the images that can be uploaded to my favorites on the Friday they are released, and then go back to them during the week. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 16:35, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, I guess it's a coincidence. I'm ransacking images from Chronicling America (which is where I got all that information about photographers and cartoonists), and if the LoC thinks this image is worth putting on their Flickr, I'd be surprised. DS (talk) 22:31, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Harry Kendall Thaw shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Hello Richard. You made this edit removing the navboxes from the sentence. I agree that the wording was somewhat misleading, but your objection, expressed in the edit summary, is actually taken care of in the following sentente where an exception is described. What the text meant, I think, before you removed the navboxes, was that in this template there should be no red links, because it is supposed to show what Wikipedia has on this subject

Differently, the following template should indeed, under the mentioned exception, contain red links, because it is used to create more articles in a series
I'm not sure what the appropriate wording of the guideline should be, to clarify this. Kraxler (talk) 14:18, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that it excludes succession boxes as in Lloyd B. Marsh. As it reads we have to remove the redlinks from them. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 17:06, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, I wasn't aware of the rule that would exclude them from succession boxes, I always include red links there. Where red links should not be included is in infoboxes, since they are supposed to give no original info, but only to repeat key info from either the text or the succession boxes, and the red links can remain only there. That paragraph of the red links guideline is definitely badly written, and needs some working-over. Kraxler (talk) 14:39, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another identification request?

I'm 95% sure that the Edward S. Goodnow who's mentioned here is the Goodnow who was doing loads of images for NEA-subscriber papers in 1904 (for one thing, he seems to have been Ohio-based until at least 1900). Can you find out anything else about him? For instance, his date of death? Thanks in advance. DS (talk) 17:13, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Impressive as always; once you've added in your sources for that one, I'll move it into mainspace. Here - commons:Category:Illustrations by Edward S. Goodnow is worth including, eh? DS (talk) 02:23, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Al Lewis 01.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Al Lewis 01.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 18:20, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Sam B. Boyd (fireman) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Zackmann08 (talk) 05:19, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Sam B. Boyd (fireman) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Sam B. Boyd (fireman) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sam B. Boyd (fireman) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Zackmann08 (talk) 05:30, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Patrick Calhoun (1856–1943, Adams Calhoun (1864–?), James Edward Calhoun (1878-?), David Adams Calhoun (1881–1898), and Julia Johnson Calhoun (1884-?).

RAN,

I looked at the discussion over at WikiSource, and at the comments on your talk page there. I don't get the same understanding from those discussions as what you've posted at JimboTalk (JT):

  • At JT, your comments suggest that an admin at WS is removing WP links and has blocked you over your disagreement.
  • At WS, the admin (who seems to want to work with you and unblock you) indicates there are WS conventions (for linking and some other things he documented on your talk page there) which he feels you've not been following.
  • It is not clear to me if WP linking is well defined in WS policy, or open to interpretation but understood by editors there. If current convention works against your preference, you'd have some work to do to get consensus for a change.

I'm not sure your post at JT will accomplish a change to how WS works with regards to these issues. You might be best served by engaging the WS admin on your talk page there.

Good luck, JoeSperrazza (talk) 19:23, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure you should be removing my posts to another user. I think the right thing to do, if you disagree with it, is to tell me that you think I should not be making a post, not removing it. Like the guy at WikiSource you are enforcing your opinion, by removing my post, as if it was a rule demanding action, like it was a BLP violation. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 20:02, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Now there is a house to live in! You should be updating the tree at Familysearch when you tie together families. I have been doing it also. I also like it as a backup if the Wikipedia images and biographies get deleted. I also add my biographies to Findagrave if I know the cemetery, and even if I do not, I add a biography and fill in the cemetery later. Another good place to backup your biographies is Familypedia, you just cut and paste the whole thing and 90% of the templates will be identical, and the references stay in the same format. The more places you back things up to, the more likely it will survive the next 100 years. Someone can just add a "prod" tag to an article and it gets autodeleted in seven days if no one objects. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 22:42, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if you are able to find much more about Heman Edward Drummond, Garry N. Drummond, Elbert Allen Drummond...pictures would be good, but I haven't found any in the public domain. There is an Ingram connection apparently, but I can't find any newspaper articles about a wedding or divorce, so I can't add it. (The Ancestry forum is not a reliable source.) Btw, there is already a Category:Drummond family for the Scottish family, so I am not sure how to create their own category...they might be vaguely related, but I don't think we could use the same one. Next, I will work on the Caruths. The Van Leers of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee also need more research. I hope you don't mind all these suggestions!Zigzig20s (talk) 15:36, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No evidence this image was published in the early 1920s. The listed source says the subject died in 1978, so it's very possible that this came after 1923—we frankly don't know and the source adds no details about the image's origins. – czar 07:09, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ). I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Hôtel de Ville, Arras, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Nrwairport (talk) 06:37, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fold3 Wikipedia Library check-in

Hello Wikipedia Library Users,

You are receiving this message because the Wikipedia Library has record of you receiving a one-year subscription to Fold3. This is a brief update, to remind you about that access:

  • Make sure that you can still log in to your Fold3 account; if you are having trouble feel free to contact me for more information.
  • Remember, if you find this source useful for your Wikipedia work, make sure to include citations with links on Wikipedia: links to partner resources are one of the few ways we can demonstrate usage and demand for accounts to our partners. The greater the linkage, the greater the likelihood a useful partnership will be renewed.
  • Write unusual articles using this partner's sources? Did access to this source create new opportunities for you in the Wikipedia community? If you have a unique story to share about your contributions, email me and we can set up an opportunity for you to write a blog post about your work with one of our partner's resources.

Finally, we would greatly appreciate if you filled out this short survey. The survey helps us not only better serve you with facilitating this particular partnership, but also helps us discover what other partnerships and services the Wikipedia Library can offer.

Thank you,

Shall it be changed to User:Richard Arthur Norton (1958-xxxx) (with the year in place of the xxxx) when that happens? Yazzzzz11111 (talk) 19:28, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The reason why not

User:Richard_Arthur_Norton_(1958-_)#Why_can.27t_.22consensus_can_change.22_be_used_for_undeletion.3F: A practical reason is that in the time it would take for consensus to change, all google caches of the article would probably disappear. One of the reasons why consensus changes is that new users arrive to the project. These new users will probably not have seen the article, and by definition they won't have participated in the deletion debate. They might have a different opinion than current users about whether the topic is, e.g., notable, but how will they form this opinion without the information that was in the article, unless someone rehashes that information on the DRV page? In short, users will be less informed in the DRV debate than they were in the original AfD debate, so the decision will likely get worse, not better. Hi Richard. I am assuming from your lack of reply to this and the edit restriction notification below that you do not intend to respond at the ARCA case. That's fine, but if that's actually the case, it would be very much appreciated if you could clarify that, either there or here. If I'm mistaken (which has been known to happen), then could you please post a statement, or indictate that you're preparing one, so that those of us who are waiting to hear your views before we make a decision know whether or not to continue waiting. The move function keeps the history intact from user space to mainspace. I wasn't sure that it would until someone asked me it they could move the article so they could work on it. I crossed my fingers and he made the move, and the history was intact with me as the creator, and all subsequent edits intact. Notification of a community enforced Editing Restriction

Per consensus at this discussion, you are now subject to the following editing restriction with effect from the date stamp on this message.

Richard A. Norton is hereby expressly prohibited from using the "quote =" parameter of the citation template in any edit that he makes.

Spartaz Humbug! 11:40, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I fully agree with this community enforced restriction. LibStar (talk) 22:56, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't seem that the closer has notified you that there was a second outcome of the debate. The following tag is to be attached at the top of your userspace new starts:

On the one hand that might feel like people are being mean to you for no reason, but I actually think this is a good thing since it makes clear that your userspace starts, if certified copyright clean, are expressly permitted to be moved to mainspace without charges of being an unauthorized proxy being leveled. Be sure you put the above tag on the top of all your new starts in user space, even the ones already existing because you have enemies and they will use that fact as a cudgel against you if you don't. Hopefully we'll be able to get the spigot opened up for your new starts over the next month or two.

I would also advise you strongly against directly soliciting anyone to help move articles to mainspace. While not expressly prohibited, a couple of the people in the debate indicated they would respond very negatively to that. It's still a grey area and you must be very careful to avoid grey areas... Anyway, even though it probably feels like you were beat up again, I think this all is a very positive outcome for Wikipedia and for you. Best regards, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 13:56, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@RAN: In case you missed it at ARCA I offered to work through your backlog and clear what I can. If you have particular articles you would like me to start on or to avoid please ping me or let me know on my talk page. I want to make this explicit, here, so if you do ask me to do something it will not be 'soliciting' as I have already offered. JbhTalk 14:12, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Mockus

Thanks! But not much investigative work when you know how Lithuanians Americanize their name ;). I doubt that the other Mike was his son - the birth dates are too close. "Mockus" is a rather common last name in Lithuania. Renata (talk) 02:17, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that I back calculated the age of birth for "Mike", but just now looking at the original document it does list this doppelganger as born on "08 Apr 1873", so just an unusual coincidence, I will try and find naturalization records under the name "Mykolas Ksaveras Mockevičius" or some close variation. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 02:22, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we can find his obituary, the Chicago Tribune archive is online. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 02:42, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I moved t this article by accident, I was looking at several articles including your most recent. I then moved the new one rather than an old one. Sorry. JbhTalk 17:47, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another one of your new starts moved, although there's probably little to recognize in it remaining. I had Healy on my to-do list myself for a long time. I have started putting the AN/I tags on your backlogged new starts, please do continue tagging those up so we can start getting serious about getting that backlog cleaned up. See ya, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 22:29, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a bunch more tags this morning, as you can probably see. Once everything gets flagged up we can see about getting stuff ported over to mainspace systematically. l haven't seen anything remotely touching upon true copyvio although a couple footnote quotes were long enough to get a few people's underoos bunched up. We want them to have comfortable undergarments. Best, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 16:02, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. We will provide training sessions and resources for beginner Wikipedians, WiFi, reference materials, and suggested topics, as well as childcare and refreshments.

Please bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for articles that need to be updated, translated, or created. You are welcome to edit all day or drop by to show your support, and to follow #WikiArte on social media!

Trainings for new and less experienced Wikipedia editors will be offered (in English) at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Tutorials and resources in Spanish will be available online, and participants are also encouraged to work on the Spanish and Portuguese language editions of Wikipedia.

We hope to see you there!--Pharos (talk) 10:34, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom

I'm not sure if you've been following events there, but ArbCom seems to be creeping towards a finish in the "clarification" hearing against you started by Beyond My Ken. -LINK It looks like there is a pretty good chance that those guys are going to shut you down from additional new starts even on your user page, and will require a six month wait PLUS all the backlog starts to be either moved to mainspace or deleted PLUS the requirement of you to make "substantial progress" cleaning up your 10 year old editing before any appeal can be made. It is completely idiotic, of course, but ArbCom hasn't caught a clue in two earlier considerations of your situation so it would be a real change of pace for them to start to figure things out now... In any event, get your starts started on your user page if you have anything that you're burning to do.

I'm continuing to flag and clean out quotes from the backlog. Hopefully I will get to the end of 2015 tomorrow and then can start work on your 2014 list. Carrite (talk) 07:17, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Richard, once again, it is important to turn those redlink proposed starts blue on your user page — User:Richard Arthur Norton (1958- )/David H. McCullough, User:Richard Arthur Norton (1958- )/James J. Gallagher, etc. It doesn't matter so much what the new "starts" say... "David H. McCullough was an American man." end of page, whatever. In the event ArbCom commits another idiocy and shuts you down from making new starts, the starts showing on your user page are apparently going to be grandfathered in, you will be able to keep working on those until someone comes along to certify them copyright clear and to port them over to mainspace. However, if ArbCom initiates new sanctions, you probably won't be able to turn the red starts showing on your user page blue and they're just going to have to be removed until a new ArbCom with an open mind is elected. So just crank out some stupid one or two line placeholder stubs as insurance if you have any intent on working on any of those pieces from the ground up. Don't forget to include the ANI-mandated flag at the top of each piece. Hang in there. —Tim //// Carrite (talk) 16:37, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Discuss this at: Wikipedia talk:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard#Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) October 2015

The Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:

Remedy 2.2 of the Richard Arthur Norton (1958 - ) case is struck and replaced by:

2.3) Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) ("RAN") is indefinitely prohibited from:
Creating any articles or draft articles in any namespace.
Moving any page into the article namespace from any other namespace.
Other editors may move pages created or substantially edited by RAN, but only if they explicitly take responsibility for any copyright violations on that page.
This remedy may be appealed after the later of 6 months and when all draft articles he has authored, in his userspace and in the draft namespace, have been verified free of copyright violations and moved :::to the article namespace by other editors or deleted. In order for appeals of this remedy to be considered, he shall be required to submit evidence of substantial work on his part towards resolving the :::Contributor Copyright Investigations (CCI) filed against him, most particularly the one focused on his text contributions.
Any article or draft article created contrary to this restriction will result in a block, initially of at least one month and then proceeding per the enforcement provisions. The article or draft article :::may be speedily deleted under criterion G5 by any administrator.
Any page moves made contrary to this restriction may be enforced by blocks per the enforcement provisions. The page move may be reversed by any editor able to do so.

Original announcement

Consultation

Hello, we don't know one another but I came across your ban (I don't remember how now) and following a link to your user pages was shocked that so much good material was being kept out of the encyclopedia for reasons that I am unable entirely to fathom. I hope you don't mind too much that I might have jumped the gun in moving a couple of your pieces to mainspace on the spur of the moment. If there's anything that you consider particularly move-worthy, do let me know. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 09:25, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Andreas Philopater: Thanks for the help, now I am banned from creating them in userspace so there is a list of ones that will never be written.

I think that you can still create article drafts in your userspace at meta, or in your userspace at the Simple English Wikipedia, both places which are outside the jurisdiction of the Arbitration Committee. In these cases, of course, others could create a placeholder stub in the mainspace for you to then copy your work here, where it belongs. (It is my understanding that you are banned only from creating articles, not from contributing to them if they have already been created.) 103.6.159.82 (talk) 19:29, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The metric I am most proud of is my number of articles created, so I wanted to be listed as the creator, and I want the edit history preserved. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 17:58, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is still possible. Pages from other WMF wikis can be imported with complete edit history. An established editor in good standing could post a request at WP:RFPI certifying your draft to be free of copyright problems and claiming responsibility for any copyvio that may be found later. 103.6.159.84 (talk) 17:33, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You take too much shit and get not enough praise, Richard. Let me do that now. Thanks for keeping your legs moving running the football through a pile on the Henry Johnson naming controversy. You proved to be absolutely right that the article name was conflated between the subject and another person. I think it will work out okay in the end but there are hoops to be jumped, it would seem. If you need to have a start made for a piece on the real Henry Lincoln Johnson, an attorney and civil service functionary who seems is notable in his own right, let me know and I'd be happy to get the ball rolling on it. Obviously that will have to wait for a few days until the naming issue on the other person resolves itself. —Tim Carrite (talk) 20:46, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Deluxe Archive Solutions

The article Deluxe Archive Solutions has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't meet WP:CORPDEPTH. Only claim to fame seems to be the Johnny Carson archiving; I couldn't find any sources that provide significant coverage of the company itself.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Stucco relief, Sam Goldman house (Ferrer Colony, Piscataway).jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).
