Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 4567L (talk | contribs) at 12:48, 26 December 2017 (→‎Errors in ''In the news''). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 15:34 on 24 July 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Biased account of the 2017 Catalan election, and the "exiled" status of Carles Puigdemont

The following text contains a biased account of the 2017 Catalan election:

In the Catalan election, pro-independence parties, spearheaded by the exiled Carles Puigdemont (pictured), secure a majority.

To my mind, the fact that a non pro-Catalan independence party such as Ciutadans won the latest election (by a significative margin of two seats and over 160.000 votes on the runners-up, JuntsxCat) is as relevant a takeaway as the one-sided account stated on the current headline; specially considering that it had never happened in the democratic history of Catalonia. Moreover, Carles Puigdemont is not an exiled politician by any stretch of the imagination, since he's not being held from entering his own country for his political ideas; he is, simply put, a fugitive from justice[1].

The song has been used in promotion of Shrek the Third. This is third instance of a Smash Mouth song being used in some fashion for the Shrek film series. "All Star" and a cover of The Monkees song "I'm a Believer" were both used in the first Shrek film. 3, not 2, Smash Mouth songs are associated with Shrek. Please fix. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Story_of_My_Life_(Smash_Mouth_song)

The hook says "... that two of Smash Mouth's U.S. top-ten hits are associated with a big green ogre?" (emphasis added). "Story of My Life" wasn't U.S. top-ten according to Smash Mouth discography#Singles. Did I miss something? Art LaPella (talk) 05:35, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Ruth O'Reilly hook currently on the main page is not the one that I had proposed and was approved as it omits information to the point that the hook is misleading plus a potential BLP issue in it's current form. She wasn't complaining about the IRFU not supporting her, she was complaining about them not supporting women's rugby. Could someone please amend the hook to make it state "lack of support for women's rugby" as what was originally approved? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 08:01, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
