Gamma Gamma Gamma ΓΓΓ 1950 Graduate Chapter Madison, Wisconsin Active Gamma Gamma Gamma Chapter of Madison, Wisconsin, was founded on January 6, 1984. After several attempts and six years, Bro. John S. Epps, the 10th District Representative, confirmed the chapter charter. Bro. Charles H. Brown drove the chapter application to the 1984 Kansas City Conclave and served as the first Basileus for three years. He was followed by Brothers Charles Peevy, Milton Donald, Anthony Wade, Langston Evans, Percy Brown, Demetrius Williams, Charles Brown, Carlos Weeden, Willie Larkin, and Andre Smalls, our current Basileus as of November 1, 2012.

There were nine founders: Brothers Orlando Bell, Charles Brown, Alphonso Cooper, William T. Lewis, Daryl Madison, Charles Peevy, Lewis Ritcherson, Jerry E. Smith, Jr., and Rev. James C. Wright. Brothers Bell and Wright are now in OMEGA Chapter.

In 1994, the chapter undertook a revolutionary idea and implemented it. In that year the 501c(3) Carter G. Woodson Scholarship & Community Service Foundation, Inc. was founded. Today the Woodson Foundation handles virtually all the service efforts of the chapter. Bro. Anthony Wade served as the first president of the foundation. The foundation has an aggressive fundraising campaign and has remained financially sound.

Since its inception 25 years ago, the chapter has maintained a strong commitment to scholarship. We have had minority scholarship and/or book award recipients for all the years we’ve existed. Gamma Gamma Gamma also recognizes community service as an essential function of Omega Psi Phi. Therefore, the chapter has been actively involved in uplifting the Madison community. The chapter had continued the Thanksgiving Food Drive to feed needy families and individuals for 12 years before the Woodson Foundation took it over for the last 15 years. In its early years, the chapter sponsored a workshop at the South Madison Neighborhood Center on “Teenage Human Sexuality” for African-American males.

Gamma Gamma Gamma has received many accolades and commendations over the years. The chapter received certificates from the 10th District Reclamation Committee and the Assault on Illiteracy Committee. Gamma Gamma Gamma has also received commendations from the District on outstanding reporting practices.

The chapter has had an extraordinary level of participation at the District level. We’ve had several District chairmen including Budget & Finance, Regional Intake, Undergraduate Housing and Time and Place. Bro. Charles Brown served as State Representative for seven consecutive years. Gamma Gamma Gamma is a chapter of leaders. The chapter had its first elected district officer, Bro. Demetrius Williams, to the post of District Director of Public Relations for 5 years.

The graduate chapter continues to work with its undergraduate chapter, Epsilon Theta, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Gamma Gamma Gamma chapter has taken the lead in the District on graduate-undergraduate relations. Gamma Gamma Gamma is a small but dynamic chapter whose role is to improve the quality of life of the disadvantaged and downtrodden.

Kappa Phi ΚΦ 1953 Graduate Chapter Milwaukee, WI Active In 1947, Brother Edward Wycliffe Smyth arrived in Milwaukee and from the seed that had been planted in his mind by the comradeship he experienced at Clark College, immediately worked hard to gather enough brothers to charter a chapter in the city. One of the first brothers he met on this journey was Brother James Fields; who was from the area and born on Jones Island. He also met Brother Preston Beckley. These brothers continued seek the required number of members to establish a charter from 1947 until 1953. When the required number was reached, Brother Beckley, the chapter's first K.R.S., sent a letter to Brother H. Carl Moultrie, the Executive Director of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in Washington, D.C.. Brother Moultrie, traveled to Milwaukee to tell the brothers that they had been selected to receive a charter and that someone needed to attend the Conclave in Cincinnati, OH in 1953 to pick it up. Immediately following his visit, the Grand Keeper of Finance, Brother J.B. Blaton was sent the necessary finances to establish a Chapter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which was chartered on April 15, 1953.

The name changed in 1972 to University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. The original line was made on May 15, 1971 by "Seven Little Brothers of Sweat and Pain" - Brother Kenneth M. Williams - "Lopsy", Brother George Gaten, Brother Henry S. Coleman, Brother James Summers, Brother Edward E. Cheatham, Brother Stafford Hood, and Brother Leonard C. White, Jr. - "SPACE". The second line was June 10, 1972 which included Brother Curtis Johnson, Brother Larry Grimes, Brother Garry K. Grimes, The third line was "Duces Wild" in 1973 which included Brother Michael J. Andrews and Albert J. DeSavieu - "Punchy". The fourth line was May 31, 1975, "The Notorious 9" which included Brother James D. Banks, Brother Leland Williams, Brother LeMarr M. Williams, Brother George Causey, Brother Ocie Cook, Brother Nicholas Howard, Brother Edmund V. Wilson, Brother Ricky Burnette, and Brother Clevel A. Burton. These first four lines helped in the creation of the chapter. Because of Brothers graduating out of the chapter at different times between 1971 and 1975; the charter was applied for in 1973 and officially received in 1975 when the chapter had enough Brothers on the campus.
