Current requests for reduction in protection level[edit]

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page[edit]

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled[edit]

User:Wikipedialuva[edit]

Creates short, focussed article that are consistently suitable during patrol; an experienced editor most active in areas other than page creation. Klbrain (talk) 14:17, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Grabup[edit]

My previous application was rejected as I didn't meet the minimum 25 articles requirement, but now I've surpassed that and continue to create more, mainly focusing on film articles and Indian village and town articles. I believe I have sufficient knowledge about WP:GNG, WP:NFILM, WP:NPOL, and more. Therefore, I think I'm now eligible for this right. Thanks. Grabup (talk) 15:49, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

Automated comment This user has had 1 request for autopatrolled declined in the past 90 days ([4]). MusikBot talk 15:50, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Not done – @Grabup:, Numerous articles of yours are missing references (Narayanpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Dahuakuri, and Chandmukh). If you are given autopatrolled, it is because you are creating quality articles. Based on my review, I do not think you have sufficient knowledge of what Wikipedia considers quality writing and referencing and am not comfortable giving you the tools. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:16, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
@HickoryOughtShirt?4, These articles are about villages, and there aren't any sources available for them. I understand Wikipedia's rules about citing sources well. You can check my film articles; they have good sources. For instance, Fairy Folk, UT69, and Dukaan. Villages don't usually get covered in the news, so it's hard to find citations for them. But I appreciate your opinion. Grabup (talk) 17:23, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
@Grabup:, if you cannot find sources for something, you cannot put it in. It's as simple as that. I don't want to discourage you but this further reiterates to me that you need to spend more time around article creating. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:25, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
HickoryOughtShirt?4, it's not an "opinion" that sources are required. Wikipedia:Verifiability is policy. Schwede66 20:31, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Schwede66, I am unsure how what I wrote above came across as if I was saying it's an opinion. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:12, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, HickoryOughtShirt?4, I was trying to address the applicant, of course. I grabbed the wrong user name; this was supposed to be for Grabup. My mistake. Schwede66 22:08, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

User:B3251[edit]

I am making a request on behalf of myself, as I sometimes create new articles pretty often (mostly New Brunswick-related). As of right now I have 66 live articles, and I have expanded plenty more. I have had a few deletions: two articles when I was brand new to editing & one list I created in mid-2023 (due to not completely understanding WP:BLPCRIME at the time). Otherwise, my articles have been pretty straightforward and vary in quality, with most being Start/C-class by the time I publish them. I had a little bit of a rough start when it came to "notability knowledge", as many do, but overtime I have grown to have an understanding of WP:GNG and WP:MOS when writing articles. Thanks, B3251 (talk) 11:53, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

User:TheGreatestLuvofAll[edit]

I have created at least 25 articles that follow WP:NMUSIC and WP:GNG about singers and albums. I am familiar with WP:C, WP:V, and WP:BURDEN in my articles, without copying content without permission, and I make sure my info is sourced in any articles I created. User:Princess of Ara[edit]

I recently noticed this user, Princess of Ara. An editor who works mainly on Nigerian related articles and others. While trying to appreciate the user's effort, I got in love with the lovely articles, well sources, written from a volunteer in good faith and now, I am requesting that she be granted the auto patrol user right. It'll also help reduce heavy backlog of NPP. Thanks for your consideration! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 08:05, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Me Da Wikipedian[edit]

Would like to automate fixing some year in Ireland related links, above suggested edit counts, also want to help out with typos. In case the bot is annoying, I removed one of my earlier requests because I realized the guidlines were for mainspace, not all, edits. Me Da Wikipedian (talk) 11:54, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

I find myself not wanting to grant this request, not necessarily because the reasoning isn't good, but because of a) an edit-warring block two weeks ago, and b) nearly every thread on their talk page is about a mistake, error, or problem with their editing. Will leave for other comment but my initial reaction is that this will cause more problems than it will solve. Primefac (talk) 11:51, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

User:VastV0idInSpace0[edit]

Hello! I tend to do a lot of tedious editing such as adding stub notices to articles, fixing the spacing of stub notices for the sake of the article being less crammed, cleaning/fixing redirects, etc. AWB would be great for getting tedious tasks such as those done in significantly less time and more efficiently. Not to mention would be greatly appreciated on my part. Thank you for your consideration & have a nice day! (Please @ me when responding, thanks!) ¿VØ!D?  19:52, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

Not done – If the file you want to upload is available under a free license, it should be uploaded to our free media repository, Commons. You do not need any special permissions to upload there, and you can use the same username and password you use here. If it is not available under a free license, it should be requested using the Files for upload process, which does not require any special permissions. Extended confirmed[edit]

User:MrGreen1163[edit]

In November of 2023 when I was fairly new to editing Wikipedia, I had gamed a few edits to increase my edit account unknowing that is was a rule violation, where I was blocked from extended confirmed permissions for gaming. The administrator Izno had stated that, in order to restore these permissions I had to wait at least 3 months and gain 500 edits legitimately, which meant getting 860 total edits. After almost 5 months of substantive and constructive edits to help improve this encyclopedia and heavily expanding my knowledge on editing, I had reached this goal. My knowledge on Wikipedia has increased heavily and you are more than welcome to view hundreds of my contributions since then which are constructive and substantive. Izno also stated that I should apply when I feel ready to enter the field of contentious topics and articles, which I now feel ready to do. Thank you. (Also I applied in December but willingly withdrew the request after realizing that I did not meet quota.) MrGreen1163 (talk)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer[edit]

User:Aplucas0703[edit]

I have made many constructive edits to Wikipedia, and have a decent amount of experience in Articles for Creation, and I have approved AfC reviewer for nearly 1 year. I have had no controversy thus far while working in this area. I mainly want to focus on patrolling the backlog of redirects, but occasionally I would also review articles. I also know my limits, and only work in the areas I am confident in, or I seek help. I am big on assuming the good faith of editors and pointing them in the right direction if their efforts are misguided, as I often do at AfC. aaronneallucas (talk) 04:40, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

@Aplucas0703: I took a look at your talk page and noticed that Livelikemusic recently warned you about disruptive editing and that you did not respond to this concern. I was wondering if you could provide some context as to what went on there and why you didn't respond? I'm asking because it's generally a good idea for people with advanced rights to be responsive to feedback. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:52, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
@Clovermoss I actually did respond to the user on their own talk page, though they twice erased my discussion from their talk page. The controversy arose because because I notated the stylization of the album title in an article, which is common practice. There were no in-line notes stating not to do that or directing to a discussion as is reccomended, so I was unaware their was a dispute. The only discussions had not been resolved and generally favored adding the notations, anyway. The user reverted several similar edits in the article where people had notated stylization, so that user's actions probably qualify as edit-warring, which I did warn the user of. I started another discussion on the talk page of the article to explicitly decide if we add notations or not. aaronneallucas (talk) 16:01, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for letting me know. I think I'm going to leave your request for another admin as I'm not confident enough to make a decision either way. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:42, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Not done. Thank you for volunteering, but in reviewing your editing history I wasn't able to find sufficient experience with the deletion process or evaluating content. I encourage you to spend some time at WP:AFD and make policy based votes to show that you're comfortable evaluating notability. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:47, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

I would like to participate in the upcoming backlog drive. I have done a trial period before. Knowledgegatherer23 (Say Hello) 17:46, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Done until the end of the drive. There aren't any issues with your reviews so far, but there aren't enough of them that I am comfortable granting this indefinitely yet. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 11:13, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Grabup[edit]

I have actively participated in numerous AFD discussions and have also initiated several. My experience primarily revolves around Indian Film articles, where I've created many articles. I also have dealt with issues such as paid and spammy citations with Admin “Kuru”. While I currently review new articles from the 'New pages feed,' I lack the authority to accept them. However, I regularly tag articles for speedy deletion when they meet the criteria, resulting in their removal. I'm now requesting a one-month trial for the New Page reviewer right. If my contributions are deemed beneficial, I hope to continue, but if not, I understand and am willing to relinquish the right after the trial period. Grabup (talk) 06:54, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Courtesy ping to Extraordinary Writ who declined the previous request. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:56, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll leave this for someone else, although the recently declined speedies do suggest it might still be too soon. Trying AfC reviewing first might be a good idea. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 21:46, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
@Extraordinary Writ, Thank you for your feedback. While I understand your concerns about recent declined speedy deletions, many were drafted by admins. All my AfD nominations were completely deleted without any rejections, while my votes on AFD aligned with the final result by 95.5%. I regularly engage in AfC reviewing, focusing on spam and copyright issues. Given the chance, I believe I can contribute positively to New Page Review. Thank you again for your insight and consideration. Grabup (talk) 04:14, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
  •  Not done I agree with Extraordinary Writ that you do not have sufficient experience for this role (or for AfC, IMO). Most of your AfD participation has taken place within the past two weeks, and posting low-effort votes on AfDs that are already snowing [7][8][9] is an easy way to get a high match rate but does not demonstrate an understanding of policy. Spicy (talk) 17:19, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
@Spicy, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'll remember them. I've asked for a trial period of one or two months, at least. I've noticed other users, who aren't as experienced or active as me, getting this opportunity. I won't mention names. Thanks again, even though I'm disappointed. Grabup (talk) 17:35, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

User:PharyngealImplosive7[edit]

I was granted new page reviewer rights temporarily and I think that I'm ready to get them permanently since I've tagged and patroled over 50 pages now. I've also tagged many pages for deletion that were unfit for the wiki. Finally, I would like to participate in the May backlog drive. I thank the reviewing admin for their time and hope that I will be granted this perm. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 16:45, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Melmann[edit]

Hi. I generally rotate between different maintenance activities such as RC patrol, pending changes patrol, and edit request patrol, and would like to contribute to the NPP/AFC queues too. Editing Wikipedia for 15 years, but with long bouts of low activity or inactivity, but I feel I have a strong grasp on the core policies (especially copyright-related). Despite focusing on maintenance mainly, I have created/significantly contributed to few articles, most recently XZ Utils backdoor (permalink when moved from draft to mainspace) and BG3. Thanks for your time. Melmann 22:09, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Hate to rush, but I'm hoping to participate in the Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2024 backlog drive should the permission be granted. I'd be grateful if my request was considered before it began. Thanks. Melmann 19:11, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

I regularly create pages and want to save others time from reveiwing pages created by me, in addition to that I would be able to help with the backlog. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 00:22, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

@SheriffIsInTown: To be clear, the NPR permission does not assist with review of your own pages. If you want to "save others time from reviewing pages created by me", then you would want to request autopatrolled at WP:PERM/AP. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:39, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
I will still want new page reviewers rights so I can possibly help with the backlog. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 16:48, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh It would be nice if I can get the rights before the May backlog drive starts so I can participate in it. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 15:05, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Darcyisverycute[edit]

I requested and was granted one month of the permission previously ([10]), to participate in the January 2024 NPP backlog where I reviewed 51 articles. I have been away from Wikipedia for a few months due to personal issues, but I plan to get back into editing the next few days/weeks and would like to participate in the upcoming May backlog drive. I don't mind if the permission is granted on a permanent or temporary basis. Darcyisverycute (talk) 03:34, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Nebulousquasar[edit]

Applying since I received an invitation to join New pages patrol in order to help out with the NPP backlog.  Not done: It appears as though you've never participated at AFD. Your content work may be excellent, but writing content and evaluating others are different skill sets, albeit with overlapping properties. If you're interested in NPR work in the future we'd love to have you, but I'd like to see some work at WP:AFD before we-applying. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:03, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

User:CanonNi[edit]

Hello. I would like to request NPP rights to help review newly-created articles and lower the backlog. To start, I have over 5500 edits on en.wiki, with over 1500 in the mainspace. I also have moderate experience in the article creation process, being a AfC reviewer and having created several articles. I also have experience in the deletion process, having tagged lots of pages for CSD (and later having most of them deleted) and participating in AfD. If the NPP right is granted, I will start carefully patrolling the NewPagesFeed and contributing to the reviewing process. Thank you for considering my request! User:Asparagusus[edit]

Hello! I'm requesting New Pages Reviewer rights because I like working with new articles and editors, and I want to help with the May drive. I've been an AfC reviewer since October 2022, and know how to treat these new articles. Also, I participated in the November 2023 WPAFC drive and helped to get that backlog down to zero. I copyedit, but now I primarily work in counter-vandalism. I'm a pending changes reviewer and a rollbacker as well. Thanks! —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 14:37, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

I attempted NPP school in October 2022 but dropped out as it wasn't working for me. —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 14:39, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
Done I've granted the right for six months. Feel free to contact me when it expires and I'll give some feedback then. I have faith in you, though. :) Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:35, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Been actively reviewing pages through NewPagesFeed. I have good knowledge about WP:GNG, WP:AFD, WP:CSD. I careful review notability of the subject or ensure WP:BEFORE prior nominating an article for deletion. Looking forward for New page reviewer rights :) Thank you. 𝓡𝔂𝓭𝓮𝔁 17:27, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

I have extensive experience with new page creation and expanding stubs into appropriately sourced articles, and I also engage regularly (and constructively!) in AfD debates and PRODs with a good understanding of applicable policies. I'd like to apply this experience by helping out in May with the NPP backlog. Thanks for considering! Dclemens1971 (talk) 21:42, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to use this permission to participate in the upcoming backlog drive, and enable some of my existing (informal, unofficial) NPP-type activity to have further positive impact (eg. I currently welcome newbies/draftify/CSD where appropriate). I'm specifically requesting now as I've recently gained more experience with DYK nominations, AfD, and AfC, so feel ready. Hi, I want to be a net positive as a new page reviewer. Especially ahead of the new page patroller drive that's upcoming. I've long been interested in coming towards this and reviewing new pages to cut down on the current backlog and it seems like a fun hobby to do via reviewing pages. I also have some AFD experience especially in identifying areas of dubious sources. Noorullah (talk) 05:45, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

I saw NPP is running a backlog drive next month. I'd like to pitch in. I've been around for six years and been autopatrolled for nearly as long, creating about 80 articles. I've also had some decent experience in deletion, see my logs. I prefer to only hold rights while I am actively using them, so I would prefer if NPR were granted just for the drive's duration for now. – Teratix 04:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Done for the duration of the backlog, like you asked. Feel free to let me know when it expires if you want it again. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:47, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I would love to request to join the clearing of the backlog on Wikipedia, by joining the team of Reviewers. I believe i will be able to greatly contribute in this area if given this opportunity. Many thanks. Mevoelo (talk) 05:46, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Not done Sorry, but I think you need more experience in other areas before becoming a new page patroller. Ten of the articles you've started have been deleted which prompts serious hesitation on my end. I'd encourage more AfD participation to demonstrate a strong understanding of our notability standards and maybe helping out at Articles for Creation? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 11:53, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

User:Sunnyboi18[edit]

Hello, I'am applying again for Pending Changes Reviewer, as it was felt by a person who reviewed this that my request was "all over the place" and that "I didn't understand that PC rights are". I don't think that's fair.

I was simply just giving my experience and of having done 632 edits on Wiki involving mostly updating critical information, having been an Editor since Feburary 2021, and being familiar with Wiki Guidelines & Copyright and understanding the importance of making sure the info on Wiki is correct, and preventing Vandalism. And other requests saying that exact same stuff were approved, so not sure what to say but, I'am aware of the importance and privliege of this permission, and would like my request to be considered fairly, as it did not feel like that was the case the first time, based on the response that I got. Requests for rollback

Rollback[edit]

User:RodRabelo7[edit]

Hello, for some time now I have been patrolling Special:RecentChanges occasionally and reverting vandalisms that I identify, using Twinkle. In addition to reverting, of course I also notify the users who commit these acts of vandalism. I also usually make reports to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. I'm adding this request for obtaining the rollback tool here because I would like to have access to semi-automatic tools, namely Huggle, which would greatly facilitate the work currently done with several clicks. I enjoy patrolling recent changes and I'm sure that becoming a rollbacker would make my work easier. I have been a rollbacker on Commons for over a year and understand how the tool works, as well as the risks associated with it, committing myself not to misuse it, under the risk of losing it and possibly being blocked. Thanks, RodRabelo7 (talk) 05:29, 28 April 2024 (UTC) RodRabelo7 (talk) 05:29, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Not done I reviewed your contributions and found little to no recent anti-vandalism work. If you're still interested in this tool then please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 06:14, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, Fastily, I'll follow your advices! How many reverts do you think it's neccessary during this period? Cheers, RodRabelo7 (talk) 06:27, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
I'm not looking for a specific number. But I will say that it's not uncommon for experienced vandal fighters to make several dozen reverts a day. -Fastily 09:01, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"[edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.
