The following is a list of ethnic slurs that are, or have been, used to refer to members of a given ethnicity (or in some cases, nationality, region, or religion) in a derogatory or pejorative manner. The term is listed, followed by its primary user(s) and a definition.

(US, UK) a Jew; refers to circumcision and consumerism (never pay retail). The term is most widely used in the UK where circumcision among non-Jews or non-Muslims is more rare, but in the United States, where it is more common, it can be considered insulting to many non-Jewish males as well.

(United States) a term for blacks referring to the Congressional Compromise which agreed that, for purposes of representation in the House, every slave would be counted as 3/5ths of a person.

(India, Pakistan) a person acting fraudulently to cheat somebody out of their belongings; a confidence trickster. From Section 420 of the Penal Codes of both India and Pakistan covering such activity. The Penal Codes of both countries are inherited from the Indian Penal Code of 1860 instituted by the British rulers of the Indian Subcontinent, which then included the present-day countries of India and Pakistan. A popular 1955 Hindi film from India, Shri 420 (in English: Mr. 420) has a central character who, though innocent, is regarded by many as a con man, hence "Mr. 420". Not to be confused with the association of '420' with marijuana in the USA.

51st Stater

(International) Facetious reference to any citizen of a nation whose politics and culture appear closely aligned with the United States. This term is used in self-deprecation, or to malign. Usually applied to Canadians, the term can also be used to describe Australians, British, Israelis, or Pakistanis.

(International) Biblical reference for the Mark of the Beast or the Antichrist. Routinely used by various racist groups for other races or ethnicities: The KKK uses it to refer to black people. The Nation of Islam uses it to refer to white people. Neo-Nazis use it to refer to Jews. Others use it to refer to Arabs. It goes on and on.

(China, U.S. Chinese) "American Born Chinese" - a mildly condescending term used by native-born Chinese. Can also mean "Aboriginal/African bum cleaner", "Australian Born Chinese."

(Subcontinentals in U.S.) "American-Born Confused Desi" used for American-born Indians who are confused about their culture. Often used by ABCDs about other ABCDs.

(AUS) Australian aboriginal. This used to be the standard common term for Aboriginals, and was used by many Aboriginal people themselves (It was not considered offensive until the 1950s)

(North America) An American Indian (Native American) who is "red on the outside, white on the inside." Used primarily by other American Indians to indicate someone who has lost touch with their cultural identity. Also can refer to a black person, from the quip that they both hang from trees.

(India) Derogatory term for an Indian, especially Hindus. A bhindi is a "dot" worn on the forehead of many Indian women. Also refers to a popular vegatarian dish in India (lady fingers/okra), pointing to the absence of meat in the stereotypical Indian diet.

(UK & Ireland) Any thin person, derived from the famine victims of Biafra and the Congo during the 1960s.

(Ireland) Derogatory term for a person from County Offaly, Ireland; abbreviation for "Big Ignorant Fucker from Offaly"

(U.S.) an overweight black woman

Big nose

(U.S.) a Jew - Stereotypical Jewish facial features include a large nose (though this myth has been proven false, no correlation is found between Jews and noses).

Bigger Thomas

(U.S.) slang for a bad nigger, derived from the anti-hero of Richard Wright's novel Native Son and the films based on it.

Bihari

(India) refers to a person from Bihar and Jharkhand, often used to denote a person who is illiterate and backward.

Billy boy

(Ulster/Scotland) A reference to members of the Orange Order in Ulster and Scotland, derived from a popular Orange tune.

Bin-Laden

(U.S.) a person of Arab descent. Refers to Osama Bin Laden.

Bint

(UK military) originally an Arab woman, later any non-white woman. Now used in the UK as an offensive term for a woman of any race.

(U.S. military) a combination of "Bin-Laden" and "Bint". Term suggests that Arab men are cunts.

(AUS) a term usually directed towards Australian aboriginals, and to a lesser extent other people of dark complexion (e.g. Pacific Islander, Indian etc.)

(UK) historical term for a black person (this term goes back to the medieval era)

(Sweden) a black or brown person.

(U.S.) a black man - usage has varied over time: 19th century usage referred to slaves, 20th century usage referred to "blood brothers", and recent usage also includes the name of a black street gang "The Bloods"

(International) a pejorative term for Jews based on the medieval myth that Jews drank the blood of Christian children. The term is also frequently applied to lawyers.

(US) Implies that the subject's high social status is the result of family name, and inheritance, not merit. Often used to describe White Protestant Americans of old money.

(CAN) a person from Nova Scotia, named for a famous schooner originating from said province. Often used with pride by residents of this province.

Water Buffalo

(U.S.) term considered offensive by black students at the University of Pennsylvania in 1993. The supposedly well educated university administrators told the male Jewish student that uttered it that the term was racist because "the water buffalo is a dark primitive animal that lives in Africa." The questionable semantics, dubious zoology, and incorrect geography (Asian animal) did not prevent the university from pressing charges against the student. Charges were later dropped when media outlets and the ACLU publicized this event.

(Ireland) An Irish person that acts English and is negative about anything Irish (disliking Ireland is not particularly English, it is just the perception). Very offensive.

Wet

(US) a general term or adjective for any illegal alien (derived from wetback but not necessarily Mexican or even Hispanic).

Wetback, wetter

(U.S.) an illegal Mexican immigrant (presumably having swum across the Rio Grande OR working long days in hot fields where they would sweat a lot), also see Mojado.

Wetback Samoan

(American Samoa) a Samoan from West Samoa who has moved to American Samoa (from "wetback" used for Mexicans in Texas, West Samoans must travel over a strait to reach American Samoa)

Watjela (or Wetjala, Wodgela etc.)

(AUS) Western Australian Aboriginal (Nyungah) term for non-indigenous person. Coming from 'Whitefella"

(U.S.) A Hassadic Jewish Male. Originates from Williamsburg, Brooklyn as an offensive slur against the grooming customs of this group.

White-tang

(U.S.) used during the late 1990's to refer to a teenage white person, usually upper-middle class, who "acts" black. Derived from "The Wu-Tang Clan" rap group, which itself was derived from "Wu-Tang Clan" martial arts films. see "Wigger", "Wiglet".

(North American) Any race of person, trying to be white, doing, or acting upon activities of white nature.

Wog

(UK) a dark-skinned national of a Colonial British colony. It is sometimes said in jest that "the wogs begin at Calais." Used frequently in Lawrence of Arabia to describe locals, "bloody wogs". The term, once very offensive, has been appropriated by second-generation ethnic youth and is used humorously or with pride, as in "wog culture" and the successful comedy show Wogs Out of Work. The origin of this term is unclear. Possibly derived from Golliwog. Some people claim that Wog is an acronym for 'Western Oriental Gentleman' or 'Wily Oriental Gentleman', but this is almost certainly false.

(AUS) an aborigine, or Mediterranean-European (especially Greek or Italian) person (or any foreigner).

(UK Commonwealth military) a gentleman of any race assigned to low prestige, noncombatant duties (supply, admin, maintenance, messing, etc.)

(U.S. & UK Commonwealth) an Italian or other Southern European, especially an immigrant; probably originated in the U.S., but later spread to other countries. Popular etymology gives the origin as "WithOut Passport", although some believe the acronym derived from "WithOut Papers" or "Without Official Papers", suggesting illegal immigration (however, Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe were far more likely to lack conclusive documentation than those from Italy during the peak period for immigration of both to the (U.S.) which straddled the late 19th and early 20th Centuries). Might derive from the Neapolitan slang term guappo! (pretty one), often used by the first immingrants from Italy to address or call to each other.

It may also refer to a tank crewmember, regardless of nationality, due to the fact that driving a tank through rough terrain can result in head injuries requiring stitching.
