Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 91.96.115.68 (talk) at 08:57, 27 November 2018 (→‎DYK current). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 15:20 on 5 August 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

  • ... that Hina Kino, who became a voice actress after her third year of senior high school, practiced "rigorously" for her first role?

I already mentioned this in the nomination page, but it's not "senior high school" in Japan, it's simply "high school" (in contrast to "junior high school" aka "middle school"). Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:52, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This should clearly be pulled, or at least altered, for not following DYK rule 3a, an actress, or rather voice actress in this case, practicing for their role?!? Not interesting at all, not unusual at all. Surely common practice for anyone in the field as well as many other fields. Now, i have been told before that disregarding project rule 3a is not an error, while not following other project rules on the same page are errors for some reason. But as it stands, this DYK hook does not conform with DYK project rules. 91.96.115.68 (talk) 08:57, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sveti Stefan was the capital city of the Paštrovići community, which became a protectorate of the Republic of Venice in 1423 having likely been independent since the twelfth century. — I don't believe the last bit of this is grammatically correct. Needs a comma or a word like after inserted: "...in 1423 after having likely been..." Modulus12 (talk) 00:56, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I made that change, so at least it is (I think) grammatically correct. But I'm still not thrilled with the phrasing, if someone else wants to take a whack. --Floquenbeam (talk) 01:08, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm apologies, I wrote this piece of text so maybe I got it wrong. I think the comma is correct but I wouldn't have "after" in there myself. It really does sound odd to me now. There may be a better way altogether though, as you say.  — Amakuru (talk) 01:21, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking something more chronological; "Sveti Stefan was the capital city of the Paštrovići community. It was likely independent from the twelfth century until becoming a protectorate of the Republic of Venice in 1423." Seem OK? --Floquenbeam (talk) 01:25, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
