Unspecified source for Image:Alex_DeCroce.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Alex_DeCroce.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Cape May - Separating Wheat from Chaff
Hi!
I have to disagree with your decision to undo the rewritten lede on the Ocean Grove, NJ story. (I also have to apologize for not previously contacting you. This is my first Wikipedia contribution, and I still don't know how to do much of the procedures.)
I came across the article as I was preparing a beach weekend, and noted that the article was rated only "Start Class," and doesn't yet register on the importance scale. As a United Methodist clergyman and 15-year veteran copy editor at three different Pulitzer Prize-winning newspapers, I think I can help explain how the story suffers.
The justification for removing the attributed information had nothing to do with its level of attribution. The rewrite I gave it changed no facts, but simply put different ones in the first paragraph more important and interesting facts to draw the reader into the article. In newspaper parlance, you had buried your lede under a flurry of unrelated details that did nothing to build the foundation for the basis of the article. In my opinion, that is 1) What Ocean Grove is today, 2) How it was founded, 3) How the specifics of its founding affected its development, and 4) How the remaining effective specifics of its founding have created a unique community WITHIN a chartered, incorporated township.
The amount of legalese in your first paragraph, which reflects your depth of knowledge of NJ civics, is NOT INTERESTING unless it makes a larger point. The fact that Ocean Grove "is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in Neptune Township" all could -- and in my opinion, should -- be in the Geography section. I left in Monmouth County as a way to identify the general location within NJ, but on reflection I believe I should have written that it is XX miles or a ZZ-minute drive south of New York City.
As for the word editing, please consider the redundancies of 1)Ocean Grove is on the ocean in New Jersey; that would be "on the Atlantic Ocean"; 2) on the ocean in New Jersey means it is located on "Jersey Shore"; 3) that means the Ocean Grove camp meeting site would be "on the New Jersey seashore"; 4) juxtaposing "Ocean Grove" with "Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association" is one too many references to Ocean Grove within eight words.
Factually, please consider that Ellwood Stokes' historical sketch on the Camp Meeting Association web site says:
1) The state legislature granted charter at the request of the newly formed ruling body of 13 clergy and 13 lay persons "under the following title: The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association of the Methodist Episcopal Church." My understanding is that the "title" consisted of chartered ownership, NOT the name of the land owned. If so, then Ocean Grove would not have been founded as the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association," 2) Since the Camp Meeting Association was half clergy and half laity, the community could not be said to be founded by "a group of Methodist clergymen," 3) That Stokes organized the first re-creational outing in summer 1869 along with eight to 10 families; Osborn was a promoter of the camp-meeting movement sweeping the country in the mid- to late-19th century, and encouraged and worked with Stokes to turn the site of their outing into a camp meeting. Therefore, Osborn would not merit equal mention with - let alone top billing over - Stokes. Remember that it is Stokes whose statue graces the grounds, and not Osborn. 4) The state charter granted only six acres; subsequent additions were purchased (see below). But NO mention is made of the "square mile" so often referred to as Ocean Grove, but most certainly not granted by the charter as currently stated in article. 5) No reference to anything more than the 230 acres purchased by 1872 (a square mile is 640 acres). Information contained in the Geography section of the article mentions the community as only 0.4 square miles. The community still has the same northern and southern boundaries as those mentioned by Stokes (Wesley Lake and Fletcher Lake), so if the owned land has been cut to less than half of the claimed square mile it must have been chopped off the west by road development or eroded from the beach on the east. Was there ever one square mile? Or was that hyperbole?
So, a briefer and simpler description of what Ocean Grove is today and how it was founded could thus be established much more strongly and with much greater substance in the first two paragraphs.
As for how the camp meeting roots and control of the land affected development and created unique attributes of Ocean Grove, please consider: 1a) Stokes provides astonishing statistics for the growth of the community, none of which is included in the current article but should be. In two years it grew from six acres to 230, upon which 1,500 lots had been surveyed -- and "two-thirds of which are now sold." In two years, 1,000 lots were sold! and of those lots, over 300 already had on them cottages, "some of them very beautiful, varying in cost from one hundred fifty to over three thousand dollars...." (Need to translate those figures into 2007 dollars) That dovetails nicely with the subsequent decline into "Ocean Grave." 1b) What caused that decline? Hard question to answer with attributable information, but CRUCIAL. Again, the Camp Meeting -- this time with blue laws -- seems to be the key. And when talking about a real estate arc of some 140 years, statistics about the real estate market last year have NO MEANING. 2) The land of Ocean Grove being owned by the Camp Meeting Association was critically important and relevant to the reason Ocean Grove is listed on the National Register. How is it that Ocean Grove is noted for its abundant Victorian homes (I think "abundance of Victorian homes" is what you mean to say)? Where they came from seems to be linked to the meteoric growth of the community caused by the camp meeting. But the blue laws, perhaps inadvertently, had a profound effect on preventing widespread demolition of the prevailing architectural style. Again the history shaped the current form of Ocean Grove. 3) The ongoing incorporation struggles of Ocean Grove and how it can maintain its identity as a community (or "census-designated place") despite being part of another township are rooted in ownership of land by the camp meeting assoociation. 4) The extremes of Ocean Grove's blue laws are extraordinary! Banning commerce on Sundays is the usual application; closing the beach all day (or even the current half-day) on Sunday is unusual. Outlawing vehicular traffic on Sunday is very unusual. And forcing residents and visitors to REMOVE THEIR VEHICLES (buggies and wagons, then cars) from the town before sunset Saturday is unheard of!!!!!!!! This is interesting history, and foundation for the current restrictions of using the beach on Sunday morning as well as a shore resort being "dry." Both continue to shape the ethos of the community. 5a) A knowledge of Methodist history and bible is helpful in sorting out the names of streets and landmarks. For instance, "Pilgrim Pathway" is NOT a biblical name but a reference to the believers who journeyed to Ocean Grove to restore their souls; Mt. Tabor Way IS a biblical name, as is Beersheba (as mentioned) and Mt. Carmel (as NOT mentioned). Meanwhile, Wesley Lake is named for the founder of the Methodist movement in England; Fletcher Lake is named for his fellow Anglican priest John Fletcher, who evolved as Wesley's right-hand man and probable successor except that Wesley outlived Fletcher. Asbury Avenue is named for Francis Asbury, the only British preacher sent by Wesley who remained here during the American Revolution and who became the defining figure of American Methodism. Whitefield was, with John and brother Charles Wesley, a founding member of the Holy Club at Oxford that John later called "the first rise of Methodism." Webb is named for Thomas Webb, a retired British army captain and prodigious lay preacher based in New York who made a richly successful evangelistic journey south to Philadelphia and into Delaware and throughout New Jersey. Same with the meeting site itself. There is no "Bishop-Janes Tabernacle." However, there is a tabernacle named for Bishop Edmund S. Janes, who was consecrated in 1844 and was instrumental in founding congregations of slaves freed during the Civil War. 5b)And why is neighboring Asbury Park, featuring its own Asbury Avenue, also filled with Methodist names (Bishop Calvin Kingsley; historian Nathan Bangs; Bishop John Emory, founder/namesake of Emory University)? Because Mr. Bradley (first name unknown to me) who developed Bradley Beach to the south and Asbury Park to the north, was a devout Methodist!
Finally, the Civil Union civil lawsuit does not belong in an article about Ocean Grove. At the very least, it should be split into a parallel entry on the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association. More specifically, it belongs in a story about the white-hot controversies in denominations - including The United Methodist Church - on rights and responsibilities of gay and lesbian persons. I personally have the utmost sympathy for the plantiffs, but their story is not germane to the story of Ocean Grove. It is part of something much, much bigger, as suggested by WikiProject LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgendered) studies at the LGBT Portal.
I would appreciate your thoughts in response to my thoughts as shared herein. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Circuit Hider (talk • contribs) 07:44, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
This cemetery is located in Hillsborough on the border with Manville. It is nowhere near Bound Brook. I tried to contact the author of the article, one Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ), but he didn't reply. I think the article should be renamed, maybe drop the erroneous Bound Brook altogether. -98.221.133.96 (talk) 11:52, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Request for arbitration
I'm adding you as an "involved party" in a WP:Requests for arbitration about RAN's use of footnote quotes. RedSpruce (talk) 13:51, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's baffling that it should require arbitration to determine if editors can use a feature built into the system. If the only way to determine that there is no issue other than personal preference is by arbitration, then so be it. Alansohn (talk) 14:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Nothing baffling about it. All of the features built into the Wikipedia system are subject to misuse. Indeed, all arbitration requests are about using features that are built into the system. RedSpruce (talk) 14:48, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Engaging in insults like this one isn't useful, and is contrary to WP guidelines. RedSpruce (talk) 16:04, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- It is and was a clear, concise and accurate summary of your actions here. It would probably be more useful to come up with a defense for your actions at WP:RfAr and seek a resolution that minimizes damage to Wikipedia and to your future editing priveleges. Alansohn (talk) 16:09, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- When you post a comment in an arb request, you're supposed to include diffs that support your claims. You might consider using a spell-checker too. RedSpruce (talk) 16:56, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip! I thought it more important to make sure that your half-truths were responded to, while making it abundantly clear that you are the person whose incivility and refusal to cooperate are the underlying issue here. Unfortunately, the machine I was on at the time lacks the automatic spell-checking I have elsewhere. When I have finished collecting and sorting through your accumulated policy violations, I will also go back and correct the spelling errors. If your pedantic responses here are intended as a demonstration of your problem-resolution skills, I'll probably include a few of these diffs in the RfAr, as well. Ocean Grove - Union Lawsuit
Greetings!
Thanks for your quick response to my thoughts. I will look forward to more as time allows you.
Reflecting on your rationale for including info on the lawsuit, I see and agree with your point. In fact, a reference to it would fall under my suggestion that the article would be most effective if it contained more information about how Ocean Grove continues to be affected by its founding Camp Meeting Association. How is the community affected by the lawsuit? Does the expense and energy of defending against the suit distract the Association from responsibilities to residents? Distract from the mission and ministry of the Camp Meeting? Have community leaders (either in Ocean Grove or Neptune Township) made statements about the issue? Is there anticipation/fear/hope that the result of the suit might change the "family-friendly" feel of the community?
I am thinking of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, which also was founded as a Methodist camp meeting but saw that ministry die long ago. Since then, Rehoboth has blossomed in various ways both good and bad (depending on one's perspective). But probably the biggest change is that Rehoboth now is nationally known as a "gay-friendly" shore resort. Just as ironically, community leaders say this has NOT harmed the family-friendly aspects of the town and perhaps even has improved it.
In the Ocean Grove article, my thought is that the depth of details of the suit -- all of which I find interesting -- currently included would be best presented in a different article. Added to my earlier suggestion of possibilities comes a note from JGHowes suggesting the Christianity WikiProject, especially as it has recently formed a work group on Methodism.

P.S. I have several historic images of Ocean Grove taken from a DVD video titled "Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow: A Retrospective on Historic Ocean Grove, NJ 1869-1994." I don't think it would violate any copyright laws (even if any applied to pictures filmed courtesy of Ocean Grove Historical Society and/or OG Camp Meeting Association) for me to send a couple to you. Would you be interested? How might I send them to you? Or might I post them on my personal web site and invite you to view them there? Please advise.....

I apologize if i am doing this wrong. The reason I am putting the members on the TF web page is pretty simple. We are eleceted representatives of the Borough of Tinton Falls. We control a large portion of the taxes. When people want to know about a town one of the first things they want to know about are the schools and they should know who are the elected officials running them. New Project
Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 02:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Municipality Tagging
Hello; you left a note on my talk page about my tagging an "astounding number of municipalities". At the time I was just about to leave on holiday (and therefor wikibreak) with my family, so I added a note for interested users to see the discussion on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities page. Since there have been no responses there, I'll add my own personal notes about what I'm doing. I don't speak for the Cities project; if anyone does, their response will presumably be on the aforementioned talk page. As for me - I have no plans to add every single article for every municipality on earth to this project; however, that project is so huge that such an effort is probably within its scope, should someone do it. I'm quite sure that the additions to that project that I have made are indeed within its scope. The "bot approvals group" has talked to me about my creation of a bot to do these changes automatically, and although I have not done so yet, I may in the future. If you have any further questions, I'll get to them whether left here or on my talk page. Cheerio and happy editing! Merenta (talk) 14:45, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Oadline_Truitt.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Oadline_Truitt.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 13:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey there.
I'm going to ask you to remove User:Alansohn/TSPolicy; Wikipedia is not a webhost and is not an appropriate venue for rules about mailing lists unrelated to Wikipedia. You do realize that most of my small number of edits have been to undo vandalism, and that my own vandalism was undone within minutes, right? NYC Meetup: June 1, 2008
New York City Meetup
|
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, elect a board of directors, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).
We'll also review our recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wiki Week bonanza, being planned with Columbia University students for September or October.
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.
Also, check out our regional US Wikimedia chapters blog Wiki Northeast (and we're open to guest posts).

Hey Alansohn, Sorry If I Came Out the Wrong Way.
Hey Alansohn,
Thanks for your message. I do appreciate your point of view, and I know you are also trying to improve wikipedia in good faith. I'm sorry about the personal attacks. It's just that I'm really getting tired of people distorting articles to suit their own agendas. I had a bad experience in editing the Central Jersey and Delaware Valley (Philadelphia Metro) sections. If I offended you in any way, I sincerely apologize.
That said, I still disagree with you on the census data. My interpretation of the style manual was that dates only need to be added for facts that will "date quickly." That assumes a kind of uncertainty about the fact itself. For example, you cannot say, "the weather in town A is 70 degrees." That requires a date because the weather will most likely not be 70 degrees tomorrow. It also requires a date because we will know with certainty what the weather will be like tomorrow once the day passes. This is why you need to date the weather. But as for the census information, there is nothing you can do to change the process. A census is taken only every ten years. In actuality, the income figures for every county are different with each passing day. The problem is, unlike the weather, we cannot measure income everyday, as that will be wildly impractical. So we can only go by what we have. Thus, in 2009 the 2000 data will still be the most current. That's just the system. Of course, once the new data becomes available, I'm sure people will pounce and update the information, as well they should. But for now, we can only go off of what we know. But the good news is that we'll have new info in a couple of years (hopefully).
Hello Alansohn,
Thanks for your reply. I very much appreciate your point of view.
We are very much on the same page when it comes of verifying some of the articles in New Jersey. You are at the forefront of this movement and I applaud your efforts. You are making wikipedia better through objective analysis.
I understand your issues with sources. Having done research myself (mostly financial), I can tell you that sources should be approached with the utmost caution. Articles today are rife with opinion and hidden agendas. It is very hard to sort through truth, or untruths based on selective factual references or opinions framed in an "objective" way. That is why I think a source like the census bureau's statistics site is the BEST source you can have. They have all the information. You just have to put it together. With respect to the census bureau's site, all you have to do is type in all the counties in the New York area and look up their per-capita figure in the chart provided. Then you make the comparisons. I'm sure this is how the original wiki article on per-capital income was produced. Just because there isn't a list for you doesn't mean you can't create a list yourself, using the data provided. That is the best type of source because everyone can produce the results themselves. Never rely on others when you can rely on yourself!
I guess there is no right or wrong answer to our issue regarding dates. I think your "reasonableness" standard is certainly, well, reasonable. But then the question becomes "well, what is reasonable?" I see your point about how census data changes. Where I differ is the effect of not putting in the dates. I think most people know what the census is. They also know that incomes change. That is part of the uncertainty of life. No one would expect, therefore, the census figures to be absolutes. No one in their right mind would say, "Well, they say Somerset is 10th, so it must be 10th forever." That is perhaps the best rebuttal to your argument. Another rejoinder to your argument is the idea that most of these counties won't change all the much in their per-capita income. Ten years is not going to dramatically alter the economic complexion of a county (the 2006 numbers prove that). If that were the case, then you would have the "date quickly" standard. But that doesn't apply here. No one reasonably would expect those numbers to be permanent absolutes. They are subject to change, but we can only do this every once in a while. The census provides official information every ten years. When the time comes in 2010, we should make the changes.
Raritan Valley
Hello Alansohn,
I saw your comment about the Raritan Valley. I agree with your contentions about the nebulous nature of defining Central Jersey. However, I think we should note that there is a clear division between the Raritan Valley and the Shore sections. First, there is an economic divide. As I have stated, the Raritan Valley counties have far more local industry than the shore sections, which appear (unless proven otherwise), to be solely a bedroom community for New York City commuters (with some tourism). I think this divide is important because it captures a distinction that divides the two regions. You could make the argument that the shore region is more closely identified with New York than the Raritan Valley because there are more commuters to New York. But that is besides the point. The point is that there is a clear division, and we need to understand that.
Second, the use of the term "Raritan Valley" is no more nebulous than the use of the word "Shore." I mean, is Union county part of the "Jersey Shore" because it is next to water? We really don't know. We're only talking about rough estimates here. I have used Raritan Valley because that is closest you can get to defining that region (mainly Union, Somerset, Middlesex and Hunterdon). There are certainly references to the Raritan Valley. For example, there is a Raritan Valley Community College in North Branch. There is a popular waste removal service called Raritan Valley Disposal in Hunterdon county. There is a Raritan Valley YMCA in East Brunswick. There is a Raritan Valley Train Line covering Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex and Union Counties. Just google "Raritan Valley" and see for yourself. There is certainly ample justification to divide the Raritan Valley from the shore. Like I said, there is a key economic difference between the two regions.
Too often, I think people who come onto the Central Jersey site have their own agendas, calling for citations for anything that does not advance their agenda. While I certainly value the need for sources, I also think that they can get out of control. We cannot source every sentence, every claim, every observation. That defeats the whole purpose of wikipedia. What we can do, however, is divide areas where a clear division exists and provide detailed explanations about a region's economic characters.
By the way, I have always thought about adding a cultural section to each area (suburban northern shore and Raritan Valley), but I have always hesitated to do that because I feared there would be editing wars. I can only include in the article economic references, because they are easily verifiable. I can only divide areas where a clear division exists. I have already been very conservative with the editing of Central Jersey. There is simply not as much controversy in other regions both in New Jersey and elsewhere. I think we are already being too careful because there are so many entrenched interests who will come on and try to pursue their agenda. That is really unfortunate, and I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

- Any statement that begins with the words "It is quite annoying" is anything but "polite". The demand that WP:RS and WP:V be reviewed before creating articles was entirely unneeded and inappropriate in an article that contains a reliable and verifiable source. The overall incivility and personal attack implied in your comment meet the definition of violations of both WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA. Alansohn (talk) 17:33, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

This arbitration case has been closed and the full final decision is available here. In short, the remedies passed were:
- Special enforcement on biographies of living persons: a special enforcement on biography of living persons (BLP) articles is authorised, whereby administrators uninvolved with an article may, for that BLP, "use any and all means at their disposal to ensure that every Wikipedia article is in full compliance with the letter and spirit of the biographies of living persons policy". Administrators are authorised to utilise their protection and blocking tools as necessary to ensure that the article complies with Wikipedia's BLP policy, and are also directed to actively counsel any editors whos actions fail to comply with the BLP policy. Administrators are cautioned not to reverse or modify such actions without clear community consensus to do so; appeals against restrictions put in place may be made to either: the relevant administrators' noticeboard; or, the arbitration committee directly. Before any article-based restrictions are extended to an individual editor, this counselling must take place: restrictions put in place should be logged at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Special enforcement log, with relevant links to attempts to counsel the editor. The full text of this special enforcement is available here.
- Alansohn restricted: Alansohn (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is subject to an editing restriction for one year, whereby he may be blocked for making any edits judged by an administrator to be be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith, for "up to a week in the event of repeated violations". The final decision and remedies should be reviewed in full, at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Footnoted quotes.

Apologies, I'm rather shabby when it comes to Wiki editing. This biography states that she was born in Harrison, New Jersey and also contains a quote from Barry Ulanov from the February 22nd edition of Down Beat in which he states that she is a New Jersey-ite. Is this acceptable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonio013 (talk • contribs) 20:58, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi Alan, a 3rd opinion was posted on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Carteret,_New_Jersey and also a couple of changes were made after that 3rd opinion, I thought I'd let you know so you can view them as well. CapMan07008 (talk) 00:10, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Alan, I understand the policy and the need for it. Thank you for the kind condolences. Here is a link to the NYT obituary: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/16/business/george-devol-developer-of-robot-arm-dies-at-99.html The parts about science fiction and the cocktail party are totally wrong, but otherwise they did a good job. Grandpa swore up and down he never read a science fiction book in his life. His "inspiration" for the industrial robot came from years of manufacturing and visiting factories to find more efficient ways of doing things. The cocktail party story was contrived by Joe (whom he met 2 years after applying for the seminal robot patent) to get some press.
I am not very good at navigating Wikipedia, so I hope you will be able to see this response. Thank you for your work in editing his Wikipedia page. The next edition of Robot Magazine will have an article about Unimation by Leslie Ballard who extensively interviewed Devol about a year ago and who was already working with George Munson of Unimation regarding the book Munson was writing.

Carefully scrutinize edits by this editor, because he is removing numbers of Latinos from Whites in reporting census data, because he doesn't think that Latinos can be White. It's racism pure and simple and please don't assist him in perpetuating these views, repeated all over the place where he feels compelled to warn readers that Whites may include "Middle Easterners", etc. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 19:49, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
I am about to give up on census editing
It seems no matter what I do I get attacked for it. I guess my attempt to explain why the splitting out of Asian sub-category data as if it did not include the 0.3% of the population in La Palma that reported being Asian and Hispanic was not included in the sub-categories of Asian in the report on the various racial groupings that was not excluding Hispanics was confusing. here is a link to that discussion, which I will admit should probably have been worded more politely. [2] It is at the botton of the page under the heading La Palma 2010 demographic figures errors. I maybe should not have made the point, but I guess I underestimated the vindictiveness of the editor/administrator in question. This link [3] might go to the edit history of Galt, California. I guess I did not explain what I was doing the best, so Mr. Suzrez decided to revert my edit. He is evidently of the opinion that use of the term "non-Hispanic white" makes someone racist, as he alleges on my talk page. He is of course ignoring the fact that 2000 census data only ever included non-Hispanic white as a listed non-Hispanic citation and even more is ignoring the fact that when most people speak of the white population they really do mean the non-Hispanic white population or even something more restricted. It is on my talk page though that he crossed all lines of decorum in my view. He threatens to block me for updating census figures and using the non-Hispanic white data. Such threatening behavior is quite high-handed of him. I was going to report this behavior of his on the etiquette page, but the whole process is way to complexed and asks questions that they do not make it clear what they want someone to say, so I gave up and decided to try and do this report instead.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:50, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
WikiCup 2011 June newsletter
We are half way through 2011, and entering the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; the semi-finals are upon us! Points scored in the interim (29/30 June) may be counted towards next round, but please do not update your submissions' pages until the next round has begun. 16 contestants remain, and all have shown dedication to the project to reach this far. Our round leader was Casliber (submissions) who, among other things, successfully passed three articles through featured article candidates and claimed an impressive 29 articles at Did You Know, scoring 555 points. Casliber led pool D. Pool A was led by Wizardman (submissions), claiming points for a featured article, a featured list and seven good article reviews, while pool C was led by Eisfbnore (submissions), who claimed for two good articles, ten articles at Did You Know and four good article reviews. They scored 154 and 118 respectively. Pool B was by far our most competitive pool; six of the eight competitors made it through to round 4, with all of them scoring over 100 points. The pool was led by Hurricanehink (submissions), who claimed for, among other things, three featured articles and five good articles. In addition to the four pool leaders, 12 others (the four second places, and the 8 next highest overall) make up our final 16. The lowest scorer who reached round 4 scored 76 points; a significant increase on the 41 needed to reach round 3. Eight of our semi-finalists scored at least twice as much as this.
No points were awarded this round for featured pictures, good topics or In the News, and no points have been awarded in the whole competition for featured topics, featured portals or featured sounds. Instead, the highest percentage of points has come from good articles. Featured articles, despite their high point cost, are low in number, and so, overall, share a comparable number of points with Did You Know, which are high in number but low in cost. A comparatively small but still considerable number of points come from featured lists and good article reviews, rounding out this round's overall scores.
We would again like to thank Jarry1250 (submissions) and Stone (submissions) for invaluable background work, as well as all of those helping to provide reviews for the articles listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Please do keep using it, and please do help by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup.
Two final notes: Firstly, please remember to state your participation in the WikiCup when nominating articles at FAC. Finally, some WikiCup-related statistics can be seen here and here, for those interested, though it appears that neither are completely accurate at this time. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! GOCE drive invitation
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and lead in tap water
Hi!
You may note the appendices themselves, of course; but you are right. I've been thinking of adding a short section named Controversy, with a summary of the relevant parts of Lead contamination in Washington, D.C. drinking water, a reference to that as the "main article", and also copies of a few of the relevant external links from that article. However, since the emphasis here should be on the MMWR, the fact that actually two "amendments" were added in 2010 should be a major point. I surmise, that this is rather unusual.
Do you think that this is a good idea? And, by the way, do you think that "amendment" is the best word? I thought of "correction", but I'm not quite sure that this isn't a bit too strong. JoergenB (talk) 18:37, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes. I'll try to write that Controversy section now; and might double some appropriate reference about the House committee criticism, putting it also at the end of the edit I've already made.
- I'll be happy for criticism. Controversies sometimes are a bit controversal:-); and, while important such should be mentioned, they should not be given improper emphasis, nor (of course) present facts in a biased manner. This is not always easy...
- I also thought of introducing a short section about the controversy in the CDC article, since seemingly it also received some direct criticism. However, making a balanced exposition here could be even harder, since the matters seem to more "vague" than for the MMWR (where it centres around one report). JoergenB (talk) 19:06, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
- I tried to write that "short" section - but didn't quite succeed... c.f. Talk:Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. JoergenB (talk) 15:36, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Fort Lee High School
Why did you revert this edit? Your edit summary implies that you thought I deleted the content by accident. I deleted it on purpose because, as I said in my edit summary, it is non-notable, recent local news. Someone's setting a school record, or a team's competing in a state-level competition, is not really encyclopedia-worthy. The fact that it's sourced doesn't mean it's due. rʨanaɢ (talk) 11:34, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- I know that your deletion was deliberate and I appreciate your concerns. High school sports accomplishments may seem minor in the scope of world events, but get consistent media coverage and are a regular component of high school articles around the country and are typical in the several hundred entries in the List of high schools in New Jersey. I think that in the edit to Fort Lee High School, an athlete being the first ever from the school to make it to the Meet of Champions is notable. The tennis team didn't make it as far as expected, but a top seed in the state tournament is a respectable accomplishment. While I would probably not have added the material myself, there were sources available to support material that someone else had cut-and-pasted into the article from a school announcement page and I tried to give the material the benefit of the doubt. I hope you will too in light of the prevalence of such material in comparable articles. Alansohn (talk) 14:51, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Newbie's edit of Bergen Catholic High School
Hello. Given the quality of that person's edit here being properly formatted and piping common names to article titles, it seems very unlikely that this is a new editor. The fact that this IP address only has one edit makes this seem even more likely to be the case. If you buy my reasoning so far then the next step is to realize that since this is not a new editor this means that their IP address changes and leaving a message on that particular IP page stands a very good chance of going unread. Instead I left an edit summary that I felt explained the situation pretty clearly (and nicely and in a place I felt they were far more likely to see given what I just said) especially to someone who appears to know how to edit Wikipedia competently.
As for his article stating he attended the school I totally missed that. Since the edit was well done I did click on the name but in scanning the article I didn't notice the line about his attending Bergen. The section titled "College" starts off talking about his college career so I pretty much skipped the rest of that section and just didn't see the Bergen line. And in scanning the rest of the article nothing else popped up. Had I seen that line I would have added a citation to the article instead of reverting.
Finally, adding "citation needed" tags to every IP edit of notable lists on Wikipedia means that those lists will fill up with redlinks and/or vandalism. If you choose to hunt down citations for every one of those claims then I applaud your effort but how do you determine you've wasted enough time trying to source something that isn't true?
Finally (for reals this time), if you're going to accuse me of being an "experienced editor" then instead of lecturing me on the finer points of dealing with IPs and Wikipedia policy and guidelines perhaps it would serve us both best to ask me why I did what I did instead of jumping to any conclusions. This is not to say I found your message overly offensive, and certainly do not think your intent was to insult me, but the assumption that I don't know the very basics of editing Wikipedia and dealing with other editors does rub a little wrong. SQGibbon (talk) 06:07, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- Just to make it clear, it was the implication (I'm not claiming to know what your intent was) that I blindly reverted without making any effort at all to handle the situation better is what I had a problem with. I did consider the "newbie" status of the editor and concluded that this wasn't the case. I did scan the article about the subject (and admit to doing it badly since I did not see the claim that supported the edit under contention). And I did leave what I thought was an appropriate message in the one place I thought the editor was most likely to see it (the edit summary). Yes, I could have gone even further to investigate the issue but based on my quick (maybe too quick) assessment (experienced editor, lack of support in the subject's article, IP jumping or an editor who forgot to log in) this did not seem warranted. I am glad that you did read the subject's article more carefully than I did and added the citation, thanks for that. As I said, I did not think you were trying to insult me, but your note could be interpreted as insulting and I just wanted to deal with that. SQGibbon (talk) 17:28, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, we're fine. SQGibbon (talk) 17:50, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello-
I would like to add more reference to photo links for Morristown. I got your message, but I did not understand your comment Do you want to add citations and list item link in the reference section or is it ok to create a direct link using a word? There are many historic photographs that I would like to link to.
Could you show me an example of what you mean? Couldyou send me an example of the code you prefer?

DYK for Earl Best
The DYK nomination for Earl Best appears to have been removed from T:TDYK in this edit, but doesn't appear to have been migrated. WikiCup 2011 July newsletter
We are half way through the penultimate round of this year's WikiCup; there is less than a month to go before we have our final 8. Our pool leaders are Adabow (submissions) (Pool A, 189 points) and PresN (submissions) (Pool B, 165 points). The number of points required to reach the next round is not clear at this time; there are some users who still do not have any recorded points. Please remember to update your submissions' pages promptly. In addition, congratulations to PresN, who scored the first featured topic points in the competition for his work on Thatgamecompany related articles. Most points this round generally have, so far, come from good articles, with only one featured article (White-bellied Sea Eagle, from Casliber (submissions)) and two featured lists (Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, from PresN and Grammy Award for Best Native American Music Album, from Another Believer (submissions)). Points for Did You Know and good article reviews round out the scoring. No points have been awarded for In the News, good topics or featured pictures this round, and no points for featured sounds or portals have been awarded in the entire competition. On an unrelated note, preparation will be beginning soon for next year's WikiCup- watch this space!
There is little else to be said beyond the usual. Please list anything you need reviewing on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, so others following the WikiCup can help, and please do help if you can by providing reviews for the articles listed there. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews generally at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup- points are, of course, offered for reviews at GAC. Sheeri Cabral and Indian Hills High School
With regards to: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=User_talk:65.96.211.213&redirect=no
She graduated in the class of 1996; have you tried using her maiden name, Sheeri Kritzer? I'm not sure if there's anything on the internet that says where she went to high school, but if you're close with the high school perhaps you can find a yearbook from 1996? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.96.211.213 (talk) 20:55, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker): A yearbook would not be a reliable source, because there would be no way for us to know if the person in the yearbook is the same "Sheeri Krtizer/Cabral" as the one described in the article. Instead, it has to be a newspaper article, a reliable magazine, etc. I've removed her from the list again because WP:NLIST says we can't have people on lists like that waiting for a citation; once a citation is found, then she can be re-added. Qwyrxian (talk) 01:58, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
But in a newspaper article, how would you know it's the same person? I can contact her and have her update her wikipedia page with the high school she went to if you'd like, and perhaps a picture too? At least with a yearbook you'd see her picture and probably could tell it's her, compared to a more recent picture? *shrug* — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.96.211.213 (talk) 05:01, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- I was more willing to allow an opportunity to find a source, Qwyrxian's edit is entirely appropriate. If you look at the entry for Karen McCullah Lutz in the article for Indian Hills, the source is rather unambiguous that she attended the school, and that the reference is about the person described. Alansohn (talk) 05:38, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Gotcha. I looked online and couldn't find any references, probably because she graduated before most of that stuff was all over the internet. I'll contact her and let her know what's up, she might be able to remember if she was ever in a local newspaper or something mentioning her high school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.96.211.213 (talk) 13:59, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
This is from Sheeri, a friend directed me here. How's this for some notable references? Note that all references are to my maiden name, "Sheeri Kritzer".
Suburban News, Feb 23, 1994 (page 33, hometown section) article entitled "Academic Decathlon scheduled" mentions that I'm a member of the IHHS team.
Villadom Times, March 16, 1994 (page 10) article entitled "FLOW Students take first and third place in Academic Decathlon" mentions me as a student: "The following Indian Hills students also won individual awards: .... Sheeri Kritzer and Evelyn Huang, alternates' medals in science"
The Record (of Bergen County), September 28, 1993 (page D-5) sidebar entitled "Two Win Science Honor", starts off with "Sheeri Kritzer and Joshua Kritzer, sophomores at Indian Hills High School in Oakland, have earned entry into Columbia University's Science Honors Program."
Hopefully three references to newspapers are enough. I have the clippings if you'd like me to scan them in. I'd appreciate it if you could reinstate my affiliation with Indian Hills High School (with appropriate citations, of course). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awfief (talk • contribs) 12:05, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
List of Jewish entertainers
I was going to ask you which entries you restored that you thought were sourcable, but it looks like you deleted most of the page? (accidentally, I have to assume?) BTW, do you know how to create that special reference section that condenses all of them into a kind of scrollable field (I know that's a weird description). Putting all the references into that would make the page much smaller. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 07:49, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- I sincerely apologize if any content got lost. The article is far too large to edit in any meaningful fashion and my efforts to add sources for unsourced entries and replace / update any dead sources ran into constant issues just with previewing. I would suggest that there be some discussion on how to split the article first, but I already have most of the sources needed for most of the entries you had removed, though there are several that I agree should be removed. Alansohn (talk) 07:54, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- I removed only people who were / are not Jewish "at all" - i.e. they had no Jewish ancestry that I could trace and did not convert to Judaism. (Kerri Green is the exception - I don't know her background, but I can find no source). In one case, I left a person who I knew only had a Jewish great-grandparent. I even left Oliver Stone. So some of those should definitely be removed. As for the rest, the ones I removed - Margo Stilley was going to convert to Judaism, but apparently never did. Nicole Eggert I can't find a source on, but I doubt it. Missy Gold had a Jewish stepfather but non-Jewish parents. Kellie Martin isn't Jewish. Seth Meyers is misreported in "bad" sources as being Jewish, but is apparently not. Keri Russell used the term "all my Jewish grandmothers", which was misconstrued as meaning her literal grandmother (I think she meant her worried friends or something - weird, I know); but she has no Jewish ancestry and was raised a Mormon. Embeth Davidtz isn't Jewish (and neither is her surname). Tracey Gold has the same background as her sister. Daryl Hannah's source states that she isn't of Jewish ancestry nor a convert. Jack Warden is one quarter Pennsylvania Dutch (Deutch) and the rest evidently Irish; was listed as Jewish on IMDB, which then was listed in his Guardian obit (the whole story is on his talk page). Steven Wright just isn't Jewish, and I don't think the Walker brothers are either. Victor Fleming and Bill Nye have no Jewish ancestry. Florenz Ziegfeld had a German Lutheran father and a Catholic Belgian mother, but was frequently rumored to be Jewish. Those are the ones I removed. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 08:07, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with several of your deletions, and I will never accept IMDb as a source. Let me go through the list and I will confirm one way or the other on questionable cases. I appreciate your efforts and patience in making this article accurate, well-sourced and readable. Alansohn (talk) 08:14, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- As an example, I thought I had recognized your quote about Keri Russell, but this source states "Russell, who is Jewish, said it was 'nonsense' in an exclusive interview with the magazine, out this month. She said: 'I had all my Jewish grandmothers calling, going, 'Is Keri a Scientologist? Do we have to be worried?'.'" (sorry for the nested quotes), which makes a rather affirmative statement regarding her religion, and her quote appears intended to emphasize her Jewish identity. Alansohn (talk) 08:20, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- The Daily Mail wasn't the original source of the interview. The original interview was in a magazine that did not include the line "Russell is Jewish". (the magazine was Vanity Fair - I believe the Mail article mentions that). I was unsure about how accurate this was until last year, when I was finally able to find Russell's family tree. The genealogical heritage of Keri Russell is traced right here or here in a different way of viewing it. There's not a lot on her paternal grandparents, but their names aren't very Jewish. Her maternal grandparents, however, don't have any traceable Jewish ancestry at all. In fact, they have a lot of Utah(-born) ancestry, which fits with the Mormon claim that gets floated around the net about Russell (the closest thing to Jewish ancestry on her mother's side is the name "Leavitt" - but this name goes back to New England Colonial Leavitts on Russell's tree, not Jewish Leavitts). The fact that Russell didn't mention being Jewish before or since this interview plays into that. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 08:42, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
Article on a New Jersey Activist
Would you be interested in re-writing/editiing and resubmitting an article concerning a well recognized local political activist and veterans advocate? (Mooney1084v (talk) 21:37, 11 August 2011 (UTC))
Thank you for your swift response. Have you had the opportunity to review the original article?
Each and every factual statement made therein was sourced (29 provided) and numerous other news reports and articles exist (more than 80 stories in The Star Ledger alone), though much of it is currently archived.
Would your taking a look and critiquing the original article be advisable as a starting point?
Your advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Mardy Fish
Epeefleche has a history of this with me. He'll add in that someone is "Jewish" because a reference like The Jewish Chronicle or Tablet said so, even when there's an interview with that person when they explain their full background (i.e. Jewish father, Catholic mother, raised both, like Sam Fuld). He'll remove that detail and add in simply "Jewish" based on the source. However, this is not one of those cases. This is a case where Fish was even asked in an interview about whether he was going to convert to his wife's Jewish faith. Epeefleche simply ignores this interview and continues to persist because two not particularly reliable sources listed Fish as Jewish (Mardy himself has never said so... for obvious reasons). You can find all kinds of mistakes in reference books, websites, etc. that list people by ethnicity/religion and yet Epeefleche keeps trumping these over interviews with the subjects of the article, for example. He really needs to stop. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 03:16, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 July newsletter
The finals are upon us; we're down to the last few. One of the eight remaining contestants will be this year's WikiCup champion! 150 was the score needed to progress to the final; just under double the 76 required to reach round 4, and more than triple the 41 required to reach round 3. Our eight finalists are:
- Casliber (submissions), Pool A's winner. Casliber has the highest total score in the competition, with 1528, the bulk of which is made up of 8 featured articles. He has the highest number of total featured articles (8, 1 of which was eligible for double points) and total did you knows (72) of any finalist. Casliber writes mostly on biology, including ornithology, botany and mycology.
- PresN (submissions), Pool B's winner and the highest scorer this round. PresN is the only finalist who has scored featured topic points, and he has gathered an impressive 330, but most of his points come from his 4 featured articles, one of which scored double. PresN writes mostly on video games and the Hugo Awards.
- Hurricanehink (submissions), Pool A's runner-up. Hurricanehink's points are mostly from his 30 good articles, more than any other finalist, and he is also the only finalist to score good topic points. Hurricanehink, as his name suggests, writes mostly on meteorology.
- Wizardman (submissions), Pool B's runner-up. Wizardman has completed 86 good article reviews, more than any other finalist, but most of his points come from his 2 featured articles. Wizardman writes mostly on American sport, especially baseball.
- Miyagawa (submissions), the "fastest loser" (Pool A). Miyagawa has written 3 featured lists, one of which was awarded double points, more than any other finalist, but he was awarded points mostly for his 68 did you knows. Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, including dogs, military history and sport.
- Resolute (submissions), the second "fastest loser" (Pool B). Most of Resolute's points come from his 9 good articles. He writes mostly on Canadian topics, including ice hockey.
- Yellow Evan (submissions), who was joint third "fastest loser" (Pool A). Most of Evan's points come from his 10 good articles, and he writes mostly on meteorology.
- Sp33dyphil (submissions), who was joint third "fastest loser" (Pool B). Most of Phil's points come from his 9 good articles, 4 of which (more than any other finalist) were eligible for double points. He writes mostly on aeronautics.
We say goodbye to our seven other semi-finalists, Another Believer (submissions), Piotrus (submissions), Grandiose (submissions), Stone (submissions), Eisfbnore (submissions), Canada Hky (submissions) and MuZemike (submissions). Everyone still in the competition at this stage has done fantastically well, and contributed greatly to Wikipedia. We're on the home straight now, and we will know our winner in two months.
In other news, preparations for next year's competition have begun with a brainstorming thread. Please, feel free to drop by and share any thoughts you have about how the competition should work next year. Sign ups are not yet open, but will be opened in due course. Watch this space. Further, there has been a discussion about the rule whereby those in the WikiCup must delcare their participation when nominating articles at featured article candidates. This has resulted in a bot being created by new featured article delegate Ucucha (talk · contribs). The bot will leave a message on FAC pages if the nominator is a participant in the WikiCup.
A reminder of the rules: any points scored after August 29 may be claimed for the final round, and please remember to update submission pages promptly. If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! - Remember that people who see your signature will be unable to determine your actual user name. "Offended" may have been too much on my part, but I always view my job as building an encyclopedia. If I'm not adding new material or creating new articles, I'm doing my best to add sources to back up what's already here. Terminator or Determinator, the title comes across like the Vietnam War adage that "We had to destroy the village to save it", an approach that didn't work there either. Bulleting at Moorestown High School
Alansohn,
Thank you for your post. There were a lot of lists with bullets. I think that a mix of text and bullet lists is the best approach. I'd like to see a succinct article that is characterized by a high level of readability, accuracy, clarity and professionalism. To this end, emphasizing a person's name with a bold font, particularly in a text format, is both effective and succinct. Also, phrases such as Group III could be reduced by adding an opening statement that, unless noted, MHS is a Group III athletic program. Other phrases, such as All America, could be reduced. Trouble locating Ancora Psychiatric Hospital
I am about to create this page, but I came across a problem, regarding the hospital's location. This source: [4], says it is located in Winslow Twp, while this one: [5] says Hammonton. There is an unincorporated place in Winslow called Ancora, according to the Winslow Township, New Jersey page. What would you think? Tinton5 (talk) 18:46, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- Google Maps shows it as being in Winslow Township. (Or at least that is how I interpret the shading, which usually indicates a municipal border.) It probably has a Hammonton mailing address, but physically it is in Winslow Township. Neutron (talk) 20:45, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- Be extremely careful about using Google Maps, which can often be inaccurate with municipal boundaries. It's a great resource, but not definitive, unlike the Census info. Alansohn (talk) 20:57, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- If you click on this link from the Census Bureau, you can enter an address and ZIP code and get the full census hierarchy for its location. With the address of 301 Spring Road, 08037 entered, it shows up with a street address in Hammonton, but an actual location of Winslow Township. The post office can arbitrarily assign addresses to ZIP codes, creating confusion as we have here. I've seen this recently for Old Bridge High School, which is in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey, but has a Matawan, New Jersey mailing address. Residents of Rahway, New Jersey fought to have the name of Rahway State Prison changed, because the facility is in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, but it had long been assigned a Rahway mailing address that they believed reflected negatively on all of Rahway. Alansohn (talk) 20:53, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
- And the residents of Rahway succeeded; your link goes to a redirect. :) (Actually I am fairly certain they made the change to all NJ state prisons, none of them are named after the town they are in (or next to) anymore.) Neutron (talk) 00:12, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- Here is the page I created last night, Ancora Psychiatric Hospital. It could use expansion, and possible updated information. Tinton5 (talk) 17:44, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. But why the 2014 after Mayor Stack's name? Was this intended to be 2010? And if so, shouldn't it list his entire term, which is from 2000 to the present? Nightscream (talk) 20:28, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
- It's his term-end year. I realize that it's unclear and added it to the infobox. Alansohn (talk) 20:31, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

The fight for first place is currently being contested by Miyagawa (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions) and Sp33dyphil (submissions), all of whom have over 200 points. This round has already seen multiple featured articles (1991 Atlantic hurricane season from Hurricanehink and Northrop YF-23 from Sp33dyphil) and a double-scoring featured list (Miyagawa's 1948 Summer Olympics medal table). The scores will likely increase far further before the end of the round on October 31 as everyone ups their pace. There is not much more to say- thoughts about next year's competition are welcome on the WikiCup talk page or the scoring talk page, and signups will open once a few things have been sorted out.

Re: fractional faculty
Thanks for explaining the "55.1" faculty figure. However, it seems to me that if you're going to put "Faculty: 55.1[1]" in an infobox, it's confusing. People who see the word "Faculty" think of humans, not the esoteric statistic FTE. Maybe you could change it so that it says "FTE: 55.1[1]" to avoid that confusion. I think full-time faculty is a better statistic anyway--people want to know how many people are employed, not some cooked-up number that factors in each faculty member's particular schedule. In addition, Wardlaw-Hartridge teachers often work extra hours for sports games, help sessions, after-school programs, etc., so I'm sure the statistic doesn't even accurately reflect the actual number of faculty-hours. Harmonization
Do you prefer "First Reformed Dutch Church, Hackensack, New Jersey" or First Reformed Dutch Church, (Hackensack, New Jersey)" as the standard? It seems that the parenthetical version is growing in popularity. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 03:45, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- I'm unsure of the standard for churches, but the advantage of parentheses is that the link can be piped more readily. I'd prefer parenthese all other things being equal, but I'd follow whatever standard exists first. Alansohn (talk) 20:14, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Revert re F1 race in Weehawken
It is generally--though not always--my practice to remove unsourced material, and leave a polite message on the talk page of the editor who added it (in cases where the addition was recent, and the editor in question obvious), so that he/she can do so themselves. Sometimes, on the other hand, I'll fact tag it, or find sources for it myself, depending on the type of material it is, and on other circumstances. But in general, the burden of sourcing should be on the person who favors including that material, and not others. If each person who wants to add material takes sourcing responsibility for that material, I think that's a far more fair and egalitarian way to distribute that responsibility than to charge other buys, hard-working editors with cleaning up every single mess dumped into an article by newbies or one-off editors who have no interest in learning the site's policies. I know that some agree with me on this, and some do not, so the different factions of the community on this point have to agree to disagree. Nightscream (talk) 03:33, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- The experience of the editor is unimportant to me. If they're new, and they're willing to learn how to be a part of the community, the message I leave for them is detailed enough, with copious links, to get them started, so that if they harbor some modicum of commitment, hopefully they'll be inspired to do it correctly. I do not subscribe to the concept of controversy or lackthereof, since that is subjective, and potentially circular. Again, we're going to have to agree to disagree here. Since you yourself re-added the material with a source, it seems mostly a moot point to me. Nightscream (talk) 05:14, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 October newsletter
The 2011 WikiCup is now over, and our new champion is Hurricanehink (submissions), who joins the exclusive club of the previous winners: Dreamafter (2007), jj137 (2008), Durova (2009) and Sturmvogel_66 (2010). The final standings were as follows:
- Hurricanehink (submissions)
- Sp33dyphil (submissions)
- Yellow Evan (submissions)
- Miyagawa (submissions)
- Wizardman (submissions)
- Casliber (submissions)
- Resolute (submissions)
- PresN (submissions)
Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.
- The Featured Article Award: Casliber (submissions), for his performance in round 2. Hurricanehink (submissions) matched the score, but Casliber won the tiebreaker.
- The Good Article Award: Yellow Evan (submissions), for his performance in round 4.
- The Featured List Award: Miyagawa (submissions), for his performance in round 4. PresN (submissions) matched the score, but Miyagawa won the tiebreaker.
- The Recognised Topic Award (for good and featured topics): PresN (submissions), for his performance in round 3.
- The Did You Know Award: The Bushranger (submissions), for his performance in round 1.
- The In the News Award: Candlewicke (submissions), for his performance in round 1.
- The Reviewer Award (for good article reviews): Wizardman (submissions), for his performance in round 3.
No prize was awarded for featured pictures, sounds or portals, as none were claimed throughout the competition. The awards will be handed out over the next few days. Congratulations to all our participants, and especially our winners; we've all had fun, and Wikipedia has benefitted massively from our content work.
Preparation for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Interested parties are invited to sign up and participate in our straw polls. It's been a pleasure to work with you all this year, and, whoever's taking part in and running the competition in 2012, we hope to see you all in January! Problem with donations
I saw your appeal. Well put. But today I had already asked myself Is user TraceyR going to donate anything? Not a chance. Not a chance. Look at what he said: "It's like a parallel wiki-universe governed by different laws! I think I'll get back where I came from to preserve my sanity."
I have seen too many people complaining now about the junk that floats around in Wikipedia - partly due to quality policy failures and outdated policies. Earlier today, I had to say on the WP:RS Noticeboard that: "... the continued inclusion of low quality material is in the end going to cut back on funding for Wikipedia when people say: We donate all this money and these people post this type of junk..."
I am trying to raise the alarm that low quality articles reduce funding. It would be nice if you pressed that button in a few places too. I had posted about Wiki-reliability on the Village pump but did not get very far. Yet the alarm still needs to be raised, both within the community and within WFM. I do not know people in WMF, but I assume you do, given the appeal, so it would be good if you left a few messages there. Thanks. History2007 (talk) 00:28, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- I wish I had some actual connections at the WMF, let alone ones where I could possibly influence policy. I truly believe in the Wikipedia enterprise, and I do my absolute best to make sure that all statements in all of the thousands of articles I tend to are properly sourced. I try to use only quality sources, and I'm sure that the folks at The New York Times are convinced that I'm trying to hack their archives, but I will occasionally put in a less-than-perfect source, or two, if I'm desperate. While I find that most of the random articles I read are appropriately referenced, all too often I genuinely cringe when I link to an article that is either devoid of sources or is based on low quality references. I do believe that Wikipedia, for the most part, is self-ratcheting, in that people like you and me do really care about adding sources, though I recognize that there will always be islands of crappy articles. I find it humbling that I have been chosen to represent Wikipedia to other editors and to the world at large and I hope that readers view the "low quality material" as work in progress that will be improved sooner rather later, and not see them as being representative of Wikipedia in general. Thanks again for approaching me and count me in as someone who always tries to leave an article (at least) a little bit better each time I touch it, working to an unattainable goal of writing a complete article in a complete encyclopedia. Alansohn (talk) 04:35, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, we will keep going. I tried to start Wikiproject Reliability, but so far only 3 people have joined up, so all is not rosy ..... History2007 (talk) 09:15, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- It's interesting, but the reason I stopped donating to the WMF was because of the insanity over "proper sources." The problem is that, in some cases, sources aren't available online. The idea I've gotten is that offline sources are not considered to be reliable or verifiable. The most idiculous example I can think of is with the article on the game of Battleship (which I don't even have the time or interest to hunt down). It mentions a version on paper, and it mentions the current electronic version, but not the one with pegs and plastic that introduced most of the people I know to the game. It's not in production now, but it did exist. I still have the game. Yet, when I tried to cite the instructions that came with the game, my edits were immediately mercilessly reverted because the information wasn't "verifiable" … in other words, you couldn't Google it and find it. With that kind of attitude, why should I even bother? I'm not interested in "Wiki-Mashup." That's what Wikipedia has become, though, and nobody in WMF or anywhere else is interested in hearing that. So, sorry, no donations. --Joe Sewell (talk) 23:17, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

re personal appeal for funds
Dear sir, respectfully, while I have contributed in my area of expertise in the past (DNA sequencing and other biotech science areas) I no longer do so for two reasons, one major and one minor. The major one has to do with copyright: AFAIK, a for profit can resell my work. I find this completly unacceptable. I understand that diff people have diff views; that is mine. The minor one is the pain of having to re re re correct errors on technical subjects; it is just not worth my time to re re edit things over and over again. Article on New Jersey Activist (Gary R. Englert) Redux III
Alansohn,
It's been a number of months since we first spoke about this and at least two since you promised to review the information on hand and update me.
Understanding we all have lives and more pressing concerns, is this something you are in a position to pursue or not?
Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

- I am still interested and still looking at this, but work obligations and forthcoming family plans have forced me to cut down my creation time for new articles. Please accept my apologies and feel free to nudge me, but I'm not sure that I will be able to find the time I need to devote to create an appropriately sourced article. Alansohn,
As with all the rest of us, the things we do for ourselves and our own enjoyment always come last!
I'll give you another month and touch base if we haven't spoken in that time.
Thanks!

Evil Clown Restoration
I saw your note about the repainting of the Evil clown of Middleton. I stopped by today (December 3, 2011) and the clown still says "save", no balloon as you describe. I took the photo in the article a few years ago and I took others today (not posted) and they look very similar. I am curious about this discrepancy. Thanks. --Lbeaumont (talk) 18:33, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Gustave May
Hi Alansohn, I was wondering if you could give me a hand with finding a date of death for Gustave May, who I believe lived in Bergen County in New Jersey after moving back to the US from Canada. Been searching this for quite a while to no avail. User:Wehwalt is willing to do some research down in NJ for me, but I was wondering if you could check your sources also. New Jersey 2010 census data
Hey Alan, I noticed you are working your way through the municipalities and adding 2010 census data. Thanks for this. Are you using anything to automate it? Cheers. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 20:13, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- Sadly, I'm doing all of these changes manually, loading the data from the Census 2010 into a template one municipality at a time. I'm still trying to wade my through the Census Bureau's new user interface, which I find to be much less intuitive than the old version used for Census 2000 data. I'm getting into a groove in doing this by hand, but I hope to find a way to download the data and build the text from the data rather than retype it by hand. Alansohn (talk) 22:26, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
- Maybe I can help? I've just downloaded and extracted some of the data into this spreadsheet here: [6]. This is from the following tables:
- GCT-P7 — Selected Age Groups: 2010 - State -- Place ; 2010 Census Summary File 1
- GCT-PL1 — Race and Hispanic or Latino: 2010 - State -- Place ; 2010 Census Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171) Summary File
- GCT-PL2 — Population and Housing Occupancy Status: 2010 - State -- Place ; 2010 Census Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171) Summary File
- GCT-PH1 — Population, Housing Units, Area, and Density: 2010 - State -- Place ; 2010 Census Summary File 1
- I would suggest that we use this data to populate a template. We can develop the template and then I can easily generate the data from the spreadsheet to populate the template like {{censusdemographics|year=2010|totalpop=12345|onerace=10000|whites=8000|etc..}} What do you think? --ChrisRuvolo (t) 15:47, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Wow! I've been looking at Census 2010 for several weeks now and I can't figure out how you downloaded the data, but that's exactly the approach that I always had thought should be taken. My biggest quibble about the data is that the Census Bureau has some sort of blind spot for townships (such as Lyndhurst and Teaneck), which don't appear in your data. Percentages for racial information can be calculated easily enough. Creating a template that would take the spreadsheet data and build the text is a no-brainer now that the data is here. I'd be curious to see if some of the other data that had been included in 2000 is available, especially household / family / per capita income and poverty levels and I'd love to understand how you pulled the data. I would also hope that we could pull down the FIPS coding for each municipality / CDP so that we could also build the reference. Unbelievable work on your part! Alansohn (talk) 16:05, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Ah yes, I missed the township data. I think they have that under "county subdivision" tables. Also I think I missed the "family" data. Here is how I got the data:
- Go to the main factfinder page: [7]
- Click "geographies" on the left.
- Close the "select geographies" popup/overlay that comes up.
- On the "search within results" bar on the left, enter "2010" and click go
- On the "search within results" bar on the left, enter "state" and click go
- On the "search within results" bar on the left, enter "place" and click go
- At this point you should be seeing a list of 25 of 96 results. Look through the tables you are interested in, and select them with the checkbox. (Example: half way down the first page, I see "GCT-H2 | General Housing Characteristics: 2010 - State -- Place and (in selected states) County Subdivision")
- Click the "View" button on the bottom.
- Under the "Geography" dropdown, select "New Jersey" -- you should now see NJ results for this table
- To download the table, use the "Download" link at the top of the page. Select Excel format (.xls).
- At the top of the page, click the left and right arrows next to "Result 1 of N" to see the other tables you selected. Repeat steps 9 and 10 for each table.
- Open all the tables in Excel or LibreOffice or something. Copy/paste into a new spreadhseet, being careful about vertical alignment (the number of header rows will differ for each table). Check to see that the number of rows match up correctly at the bottom of the table.
- Damn, that is far too complicated. Some contractor must have made out well in this deal. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 16:35, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- The interface is ridiculously complicated, but now I understand the process. They certainly don't make it easy.I need to find other tables that have the data I'm looking for, but once they're downloaded and the pieces are aligned in a single spreadsheet, the task of taking the pieces and plugging them into a template is quite simple and we can just bang them out one after the other. You have no idea how much I appreciate your insight into this issue. Alansohn (talk) 16:48, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Happy to help! But the real kicker is that once the data is in a single spreadsheet, we can save it as .csv and I can write a quick shell script or perl script to produce the template wiki markup line (the {{censusdemographics or whatever) and we just have to copy/paste the output into each article. That will be a real time saver. This is how I produced the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey/Census 2010. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 17:11, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- There's a dozen ways to skin the cat, once we have all the data we need. You can build a template like the censusdemographics you suggested above, plugging in the columns from the spreadsheet by building a substring. You can take the full text from a sample municipality for 2000 and just build the full text by plugging in numbers. Or using a script/perl from a .csv file. I tried to map all of the 2000 data included in the standard load done by Rambot in 2002 to see if all the fields are there. looking through the four paragraphs, I see that GCT-PH1 and GCT-PL1 have almost all of what we need for paragraph 1 (people / households / families / density / racial / Hispanic), except for family info. Paragraph 2 (household types) is covered by GCT-P4. Paragraph 3 (population ranges and sex ratios) is almost a mirror image of GCT-P5. It's paragraph 4, with income and poverty data that I can't seem to pin down. We are so on the right track now and I can't believe that this can happen so quickly! Alansohn (talk) 17:43, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I think this is GCT-P14, which I only see for 2000. I think this may have been replaced by American Community Survey. Remember, there was no "long form" for 2010. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 20:03, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I saw the latest version of your spreadsheet. I would double check the fields against the data for 2000 from the municipality of your choice, but I think that we're 99% of the way there. Basically, if you just took the data in each row and strung it together with the name of a template (censusdemographics would be fine) and just strung the data together separated by a "|", I could create the template and just plug it in. Not all of the fields would be used, but we'd save the time of naming each field. Quick and dirty, but it'll get the job done. All of the data for paragraphs 1 and 2 is there, except for number of families (which we should be able to find). GCT-P5 would add the population ranges and sex ratios from paragraph 3. If we could find a source for number of families and add GCT-P5 to the table, I think we can generate the template quite quickly. Thanks again for all your efforts! Alansohn (talk) 20:13, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

- Looks great! I must stop using exclamation points! But I'm too happy with this spreadsheet! Can you add a column that builds a call to a template (let's call it subst:censusdemographics) and just string each column in from the spreadsheet separated by a pipe! Your suggestion to turn the spreadsheet into a .csv file would solve this if you just changed all commas into pipes. This can all be completed very quickly of we do that! Thanks again for coming up with this approach! Alansohn (talk) 21:26, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- The one other thing I'd suggest is to separate the name of the place so that there are separate columns for name of place, type and county. So for Alpine we should have three columns (Alpine / borough / Bergen), for Neptune City it would be (Neptune City, borough, Monmouth) and for Zarephath we'd have (Zarephath / CDP / Somerset). We should be able to cut that from a list elsewhere. These fields would allow sorting and plugging the name of the municipality and type, which is part of the generic text. Alansohn (talk) 21:34, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey/Census 2010/Demographics --ChrisRuvolo (t) 21:43, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I wasn't able to pull the County data. BTW, I'd rather not subst this, it would make future changes harder than they need to be. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 21:46, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Don't worry about the details. That can be plugged in. I see the file Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey/Census 2010/Demographics, which looks almost perfect, but has stray double-quote marks. Any reason for that? Alansohn (talk) 21:53, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- I missed that. The values like "1,234.5" were getting split up like this: |"1|234.5"|. Fixed now. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 22:12, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Census 2010 template and test
Take a look at Template:USCensusDemographics and User:Alansohn/Absecon, New Jersey. There's some debugging stuff in there now to help me pick up the fields by number, but I think I'm pretty darn close. Check out the details against your spreadsheet to make sure that I'm substituting the right fields. Thanks again for making this happen! Alansohn (talk) 23:06, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
- Looks good, nice work! I verified the fields used matched up with the spreadsheet. I made one tweak in the units labeling for housing unit density. The reference doesn't seem to be populated, how do you want to handle that? I would think including the reference in the template would be easiest. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 03:30, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- I will play with it. Check out Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey and Haworth, New Jersey where the template has been used as is. The template can use refinement, but the fields seem to match up and are formatted correctly. Thanks for all of your work to get the data downloaded and formatted into a template. Alansohn (talk) 05:27, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- Looks good. Thanks for your work in building the template. I was updating River Vale, and noticed that there was also the paragraph in the Geography section which is based on census data. For River Vale, the area as published changed between 2000 and 2010. Rather than manually create/update this as well, I created {{USCensusGeography}}, with the same parameters. This may be overkill, but since we have the data, it was easy to do. Do you think this is worthwhile? --ChrisRuvolo (t) 14:31, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- I used the USCensusGeography at the Margate City, New Jersey article, with the "subst:" parameter. It's a no-brainer, because we have the data already and in many cases it's different from the 2000 area information due to constant adjustments in boundaries. I do suggest editing it to use a different source though to match the source with area data. Other than that, it's a great advance and you deserve tremendous credit for pushing this forward. Alansohn (talk) 18:50, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

- Hey Alan, thanks for the kind words and the barnstar. Much appreciated. I hope you are enjoying the holidays. Regarding townships in census data, I think due to many states calling unincorporated territory "townships", the census treats them different than populated places. To somewhat rectify this, there were co-terminus CDPs for each NJ township in 2000, but they removed the CDPs in 2010. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 17:20, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!
This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! This template is now out of date due to the death of Assemblyman Peter J. Biondi. His death (on Nov. 10, two days after he was re-elected to another two-year term, but from a somewhat different group of towns due to redistricting) is reported in the article about him, but he is still in the template in the present tense. Since you created these templates, I figured I would leave it to you how to word the revision. It is going to have to be changed anyway after next week (when the new Legislature convenes) because Denise Coyle did not run for re-election (due to the redistricting), and I believe Biondi's seat will not be filled until late January. But it seemed kind of odd to read that the district is represented by Biondi, when he has gone to the great legislature in the sky. Neutron (talk) 18:47, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- You are 1,000% correct. I had made updates to other articles to reflect Biondi's death, but not to this one. Anticipating the whole process of reflecting changes in districts and legislators is a rather daunting one that needs to take place over the next several days. Thanks for the heads up. Hi,
I am writing you to ask you to please kindly stop removing certain content that I am adding to the article Galloway Township, NJ. I more than respect your improvements to the article and therefore leave them alone. However, you need to return the favor and leave my improvements alone as well. I have been a resident of Galloway Township for 38 years, so I therefore know what I am adding to the article.

District 33
That Stack represents District 33 is already mentioned in the article. The section you keep adding isn't about him, doesn't mention him, and its heading clearly indicates this. In fact, the opening sentence of your section isn't even about the District! It's about all of the forty districts in the NJ Legislature, and how they have a rep in the Senate and two in the General Assembly. Simply put, this is a tangent, and it isn't even one that's attached to the passage that already mentions the District in relevant relation to him. There is no such "policy" or "consensus" on adding such irrelevant material to an article on a person like Stack. If there is, then please point it out to me. You're trying to once again shoehorn material that has a limited relationship to an article subject, and then going off into a digression to the extent that you're no longer talking about that subject. There already is an article that lists those districts, which is linked to. I think that's enough. Nightscream (talk) 19:58, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
- You're free to discuss changes that are standard in every article for every individual in the New Jersey Senate and New Jersey General Assembly. While I appreciate your pride of ownership in the article for Brian P. Stack, the material is directly relevant. If you have alternate wording for all the articles for all legislators, why not raise it and discuss it, rather than blindly revert what multiple editors have tried to reinsert into the article, as is convention. Alansohn (talk) 04:06, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Hello Alansohn: thank you for your kind comments about the posting I have been doing on the "Jay Jason" page. I have learned a lot from the editors, and you are right that with my dad's death in 2001, before the internet age, much of what is available is not on the internet. I have tried to put in more sources from newspapers and magazines at the beginning, middle and end of his very long career in show business. I tried to post a few of these articles to give the editors a chance to see what people said about Jay during his career, and one of these articles is available at: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0Bz4gyjhP7mm3ZGVlOTYxYjEtYzJlMC00ODkxLWE4YjEtZThlNTVhYmZhZmEy&hl=en_US I was wondering if you might have any other suggestions for me to be able to deal with the issue of his notoriety. I have added a few other sources as well to the wiki article. --Jaytribute516 19:21, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Leonard Jason — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaytribute516 (talk • contribs)
WikiCup 2012 January newsletter
WikiCup 2012 is off to a flying start. At the time of writing, we have 112 contestants; comparable to last year, but slightly fewer than 2010. Signups will remain open for another week, after which time they will be closed for this year. Our currrent far-away leader is Grapple X (submissions), due mostly to his work on a slew of good articles about The X-Files; there remain many such articles waiting to be reviewed at good article candidates. Second place is currently held by Ruby2010 (submissions), whose points come mostly from good articles about television episodes, although good article reviews, did you knows and an article about a baroness round out the score. In third place is Jivesh boodhun (submissions), who has scored 200 points for his work on a single featured article, as well as points for work on others, mostly in the area of pop music. In all, nine users have 100 or more points. However, at the other end of the scale, there are still dozens of participants who are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly!
The 64 highest scoring participants will advance to round 2 in a month's time. There, they will be split into eight random groups of eight. The score needed to reach the next round is not at all clear; last year, 8 points guaranteed a place. The year before, 20.
A few participants and their work warrant a mention for achieving "firsts" in this competition.
- 12george1 (submissions) was the first to score, with his good article review of Illinois v. McArthur.
- 12george1 (submissions) was also the first to score points for an article, thanks to his work on Hurricane Debby (1982)- now a good article. Tropical storms have featured heavily in the Cup, and good articles currently have a relatively fast turnaround time for reviews.
- Sp33dyphil (submissions) was the first to score points for a did you know, with Russian submarine K-114 Tula. Military history is another subject which has seen a lot of Cup activity.
- Sp33dyphil (submissions) is also the first person to successfully claim bonus points. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is now a good article, and was eligible for bonus points because the subject was covered on more than 20 other Wikipedias at the start of the competition. It is fantastic to see bonus points being claimed so early!
- Speciate (submissions) was the first to score points for an In the News entry, with Paedophryne amauensis. The lead image from the article was also used on the main page for a time, and it's certainly eye-catching!
- Jivesh boodhun (submissions) was the first to score points for a featured article, and is, at the moment, the only competitor to claim for one. The article, "Halo" (Beyoncé Knowles song), was also worth double points because of its wide coverage. While this is an article that Jivesh and others have worked on for some time, it is undeniable that he has put considerable work into it this year, pushing it over the edge.
We are yet to see any featured lists, featured topics or good topics, but this is unsurprising; firstly, the nomination processes with each of these can take some time, and, secondly, it can take a considerable amount of time to work content to this level. In a similar vein, we have seen only one featured article. The requirement that content must have been worked on this year to be eligible means that we did not expect to see these at the start of the competition. No points have been claimed for featured portals or pictures, but these are not content types which are often claimed; the former has never made a big impact on the WikiCup, while the latter has not done so since 2009's competition.
A quick rules clarification before the regular notices: If you are concerned that another user is claiming points inappropriately, please contact a judge to take a look at the article. Competitors policing one another can create a bad atmosphere, and may lead to inconsistencies and mistakes. Rest assured that we, the judges, are making an effort to check submissions, but it is possible that we will miss something. On a loosely related note: If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Good luck! Union City Census Info
Alan, why do you feel that the Union City article should contain both info from the most recent Census and the one before that? Isn't containing the most recent one enough? Can't we summarize the section by including from the 2000 Census only material regarding demographics that are not given by the 2010 info?
Also, there is now material in the 2000 section that does not pertain to the 2000 Census. For example, that large paragraph that begins "In the early days of the post-Revolution era...", and the last two sentences in that section. Please advise. Nightscream (talk) 23:36, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- I do think that it is helpful to have 2000 Census data in terms of comparisons to the latest 2010 data. The issue that I had with Union City is that so much text had been intermingled with the other data. I will take another look. Alansohn (talk) 23:46, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- Regarding the material in the 2000 Census section that does not pertain to the 2000 section, do you have an idea of when you'll be able to take a look at it?
- Also, I have a suggestion on how to address the comparison issue: Why not place the 2000 figures in "up from" parentheticals like this, complete with the citations, something like this:
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 66,455 people, (up from 67,088 in 2000).
- This way, the data from the most recent Census becomes the primary reference point. And for 2000 info that does not have an updated corresponding 2010 figure, we can put that at the beginning of the section, for chronological order's sake. What do you think? Nightscream (talk) 20:29, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- I more than appreciate your frustration with the way that the data is presented for the 2010 Census and the 2000 Census and I am conflicted . The way the data has been downloaded, it would be quite challenging to mix the data from the two censuses. There is a part of me that argues that the presence of data for both censuses would allow comparisons between the two, and there is a part of me that also would hate to lose the 2000 Census data that was the starting point for almost every Wikipedia article about a place in the United States when User:Rambot was set loose in 2002. I think that some comparisons in population (and other demographic change) would be useful. Another idea would be to default to hide the 2000 data so that it doesn't confuse potential readers, but can be displayed in full with a click. Does any of this help? What are your thoughts? Alansohn (talk) 20:40, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

New York City's featured article status
Hi, if I remember correctly, you contributed a Herculean effort to the successful collaboration a couple of years ago that made New York City a Featured Article. Someone at Talk:New York City is interested in returning the article to Featured Status or at least Good Article status, and we were wondering what and how many editors it would realistically need to make a serious stab at doing that today. I'm not canvassing you to weigh in for or against trying (nor am I recruiting you for another effort unless you're so inclined) so much as I'm asking for an estimate of what it took to get FA status in the first place, and what it might need now (since FA Criteria have been raised). Thanks for any information, tips, war stories or advice you could offer. —— Shakescene (talk) 07:29, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
- I haven't looked at the article in detail in a while, and I don't look at this as canvassing. I'd like to go through the article and see what changes would be necessary to bring it up to FA status, which I assume will take a decent amount of updating and sourcing. GOCE March copy edit drive
Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors
The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their March 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on March 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on March 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goal for the drive will be to eliminate the remaining 2010 articles from the queue. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". WikiCup 2012 February newsletter
Round 1 is already over! The 64 highest scorers have progressed to round 2. Our highest scorer was Grapple X (submissions), again thanks mostly to a swathe of good articles on The X-Files. In second place was Tigerboy1966 (submissions), thanks an impressive list of did you knows about racehorses. Both scored over 400 points. Following behind with over 300 points were Ruby2010 (submissions), Cwmhiraeth (submissions), Miyagawa (submissions) and Casliber (submissions). February also saw the competition's first featured list: List of colleges and universities in North Dakota, from Ruby2010 (submissions). At the other end of the scale, 11 points was enough to secure a place in this round, and some contestants with 10 points made it into the round on a tiebreaker. This is higher than the 8 points that were needed last year, but lower than the 20 points required the year before. The number of points required to progress to round 3 will be significantly higher.
The remaining contestants have been split into 8 pools of 8, named A through H. Round two will finish in two months time on 28 April, when the two highest scorers in each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers, will progress to round 3. The pools were entirely random, so while some pools may end up being more competitive than others, this is by chance rather than design.
The judges would like to point out two quick rules reminders. First, any content promoted during the interim period (that is, on or after 27 February) is eligible for points in round 2. Second, any content worked on significantly this year is eligible for points if promoted in this round. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. African American Soccer players
I noticed that you are the one who seperated this category out, at least in the case of Marshall Leonard, although it had been previously agreed at CfD to merge all the sub-categories into the general Category:African American sportspeople. I was wondering what your justification for going against the ruling at CfD in this case was.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:31, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- In the case of Leonard Marshall, the edit in question was made in December 2008 to change the category. Both the parent Category:African-American sportspeople and the subcategory Category:African American soccer players exist, so I'm not sure why you would have removed the subcat at this edit or why you would not have used the parent category, if that were the CFD consensus. I haven't been involved with the CFD or any of these categories in years. What is the issue here? Alansohn (talk) 03:51, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- Alansohn, thank you for taking the time to restore the categories that Johnpacklambert removed. ~ Fopam (talk) 21:44, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

My last change removed content and did not work as intended so I restored the earlier version. You are unbelievably fast, You acted seconds after my change, and seconds before I undid my last change. But I don't understand why you restored the article to a very old version. I am not a beginner, I just didn't notice I wasn't logged in. I have been working on this article earlier. - Sorry for the changes, but the edit revert tool that I use makes the assumption that all of the edits from the same user are bad if one is deemed to be in question. I'm sorry if this caused any problems and please let me know if I can help in any way in addressing the error. Alansohn (talk) 23:06, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, I understand. But it seems reckless to undo a whole bunch of edits without checking if they are good and well referenced, as my changes are. I will now continue to work on the article. The Biathlon World cup season 2011-2012 ended 18 March 2012 so it is time to update many biathlete's articles as we now have the complete results of this season.87.249.177.148 (talk) 23:16, 19 March 2012 (UTC) Now I am logged in again. Dear Alansohn, you have reverted my edit of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bella_Swan article. As I have never tried to edit Wikipedia, I really don't know how to do it the right way, especially with reverting to some earlier version that has to be done manually. The article is heavily vandalized as you can see for yourself - press CTRL-F and look for "period". I admit, these pages I have created are not the most interesting, and may be hard to expand upon, but I like to start somewhere. By establishing some information about a specific unincorporated area within a larger municipality. One day, I am hoping to find more info to add, as well as possibly another user may find the same info. I am still confused about the difference between neighborhoods and unincorporated places. We have this Category:Neighborhoods in New Jersey with 30 entries, 8 are italicized links, which are redirects to their main page. Then we have Category:Unincorporated communities in New Jersey, a list of 280 place names, which will continue to grow per this project: Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey/Requested articles#Places. I use Google books mostly to find more info about these particular places. If you don't mind, maybe you could help assist in finding some coverage relating to the topic at hand. Linking to AFF tables?
Hi Alansohn - I see you found my edits to Elwood, New Jersey, and produced a highly superior link directly to the place's Demographic Profile table on American Factfinder. How does one do that? I would love to be able to start linking directly to the tables if it's not too onerous a process. Thanks for your help... --Ken Gallager (talk) 19:14, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
WikiCup 2012 March newsletter
We are over half way through the second round of this year's WikiCup and things are going well! Grapple X (submissions), of Pool B, is our highest overall scorer thanks to his prolific writings on television and film. In second place is Pool H's Cwmhiraeth (submissions), thanks primarily to work on biological articles, especially in marine biology and herpetology. Third place goes to Pool E's Casliber (submissions), who also writes primarily on biology (including ornithology and botany) and has already submitted two featured articles this round. Of the 63 contestants remaining, 15 (just under a quarter) have over 100 points this round. However, 25 are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly. 32 contestants, the top two from each pool and the 16 next-highest scorers, will advance to round 3.
Congratulations to Matthewedwards (submissions), whose impressive File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg became the competition's first featured picture. Also, congratulations to 12george1 (submissions), who claimed good topic points, our first contestant this year to do so, for his work on Wikipedia:Featured topics/1982 Atlantic hurricane season. This leaves featured topics and featured portals as the only sources of points not yet utilised. However, as recent statistics from Miyagawa (submissions) show, no source has yet been utilised this competition to the same extent it has been previously!
It has been observed that the backlogs at good article candidates are building up again. While the points for good article reviews will be remaining constant, any help that can be offered keeping the backlog down would be appreciated. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hi. When you recently edited Jerry Reese, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jefferson Township High School (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

GOCE March drive wrap-up
Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months. Progress report During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators. Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May. Your drive coordinators – Dianna (Talk), Stfg (Talk), and Dank (talk)To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list. |

Seems like Category:People from Rochelle Park, New Jersey is again empty and nominated for deletion. I guess you repopulated it the last time this happened. Vegaswikian (talk) 01:31, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Federal, state and county representation
How can the Federal, state and county representation templates be edited? I've noticed some errors in them. Nightscream (talk) 02:36, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- The templates are all in the format of Template:NJ Congress 06 (from 01 to 12), Template:NJ Legislative 22 (from 01 to 40) and Template:NJ Union County Freeholders (just substitute county name). Between the 2010 census changes and the new legislators I have tried to keep up and make the changes, but I apologize for any uncorrected entries. While these formats should direct you to the templates in question, also note that while editing an article a list of the templates (with a link to edit them) appears below the article. As always, your assistance in keeping up the integrity of New Jersey-related articles and templates is greatly appreciated. Alansohn (talk) 01:02, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Seraj Ahmad Salim
In regard to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seraj_Ahmad_Salim Alansohn, I am very thankful for the help you have given regarding Seraj Ahmad Salim page. It is much appreciated, and I will follow your advices. I'm very new to wikipedia, but I am related to AEMRNSA and Dr. Seraj is the Chairman of this association. We tried to get some information about him through the office. Anyway, here is a facebook link, it's a sort of campaigning thing [2]. And recently, it was also written about him in Aberdeen Citizen magazine, but sadly I wasn't able to get more references regarding him.
- It's the least I can do. Let me know if I can help with this article or anything else. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr. Egalitarian (talk • contribs) 15:57, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
Jay Jason
You were most helpful previously with the page on Jay Jason, and one editor has brought up issues of neutrality, and a number of people have made comments on this point. I was wondering if you might be willing to take a look at the talk page and let me know your thoughts on the discussion. I appreciate your prior help on this matter.--Jaytribute516 18:48, 17 April 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaytribute516 (talk • contribs)
PRINCETON Consolidation
Off hand, do you know when this will actually take place? There seems to be little information regarding the issue. And do you know what title the singular municipality will have: township, borough, town, city? 98.221.128.109 (talk) 00:42, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
...I GUESS NOT. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.221.128.109 (talk) 05:21, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- My understanding is that the merger will take effect as of January 1, 2013. None of the articles or details I have seen indicate whether one of the existing municipalities (the Borough or Township) will continue to exists and absorb the other, or if there will be a new successor municipality and what form of government will be used. I will keep you and the articles updated as more information becomes available. Alansohn (talk) 14:03, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. I only used caps because I wasn't sure if you'd seen the message, as you seem like your inundated with other New Jersey related matters. It is somewhat odd that there is very little information on this historic event. Consolidation had come up numerous times over the years, and was always sort of looked upon as pipe dream. And as this may be a model for other municipalities, it is very odd that no one is really saying much about it. 98.221.128.109 (talk) 15:12, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- Having studied this topic for so long, it is clear that the devil is in the details. Consolidation has been battled against for so long and so hard that I'm not sure that anyone knows how to do it. There is no model for a merger (it hasn't happened in several decades) and the more logical process of having one effectively take over the other probably makes more sense. I will continue to seek more details and keep the article (and you) updated as more details come in. Alansohn (talk) 15:27, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Springfield
You said:
"Your recent edit removed accurate sources, based on the claim that a previous edit by me constituted "vandalism by user:Alansohn, don't say the legislative district was unchanged, it definitely did change." In the 2001 apportionment, Springfield was in the 21st state legislative district in the 2001 apportionment and it's still there as of the 2011 apportionment. It definitely did not change. Can you explain why you believe it did change and why you believe that my sourced edit constituted "vandalism"? Alansohn (talk) 16:51, 12 February 2012 (UTC)"
Your revision of 07:39, 12 February 2012 said: "The legislative district was kept unchanged by the New Jersey Apportionment Commission based on the results of the 2010 Census." That is incorrect. The district changed. Just because one town stayed in the same district does not mean it was unchanged. Every 10 years, there is a new district regardless of the number. In this case, several municipalities were removed and several municipalities were added. Therefore, the district in fact changed. Just because you cited sources online, does not mean they are accurate. The sources should provide facts and do not support your opinion that the district was "unchanged". Even the Wikipedia page for District 21 confirms there was a change: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/21st_Legislative_District_(New_Jersey) You keep changing factually correct information with incorrect information - I see that as vandalism.
You also are changing the page purely based on your own style - namely the terms of the elected officials. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.102.98.194 (talk) 02:32, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
- This is a debate about semantics. There's an old question that says what if you replaced every brick in a house with a new brick, would it still be the same house? You could argue either way. To the best of my knowledge, every district in New Jersey saw changes as to which municipalities were included, with some communities added and/or some removed. Though the district for Springfield Township is still the 21st District, the 21st District is different in 2011 from what it was in 2001, so is it the same or did it change? The standard used in New Jersey and around the United States for referring to state legislative or Congressional districts is to say that the district is unchanged if the number stayed the same after redistricting / reapportionment, even if the district changed and even if the changes were substantial. You are certainly entitled to view this differently, as am I, but having a different opinion on the subject does not constitute "vandalism" and i hope that you will respect that. "Vandalism" is a very strong word in Wikipedia and should not be tossed around lightly in a dispute that centers around a trivial interpretation of the same set of facts. The wording in the article finesses the whole issue, removing any reference to any changes made to District 21, nor does it appear that there is any need to include any explanation of the fact that there had been changes made. The style for listing elected officials is used throughout Wikipedia and the choice is arbitrary, but there appears to be no reason to change it here. Alansohn (talk) 03:00, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 April newsletter
Round 2 of this year's WikiCup is over, and so we are down to our final 32, in what could be called our quarter-finals. The two highest scorers from each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers overall, have entered round 3, while 30 participants have been eliminated. Pool B's Grapple X (submissions) remains our top scorer with over 700 points; he continues to gain high numbers of points for his good articles on The X-Files, but also Millennium and other subjects. He has also gained points for a good topic, a featured list, multiple good article reviews and several did you knows. Pool E's Casliber (submissions) was second, thanks primarily to his biology articles, with Pool H's Muboshgu (submissions) coming in third, with an impressive 46 did you knows, mostly on the subject of baseball. Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both scored over 600 points. Pools E and H proved our most successful, with each seeing 5 members qualify for round 3, while Pools C and D were the least, with each seeing only 3 reach round 3. However, it was Pool G which saw the lowest scoring, with a little under 400 points combined; Pool H, the highest scoring group, saw over triple that score.
65 points was the lowest qualifying score for round 3; significantly higher than the 11 required to enter round 2, and also higher than the 41 required to reach round 3 last year. However, in 2010, 100 points were needed to secure a place in round 3. 16 will progress to round 4. In round 3, 150 points was the 16th highest score, though, statistically, people tend to up their game a little in later rounds. Last year, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 points were needed. Guessing how many points will be required is not easy. We still have not seen any featured portals or topics this year, but, on the subject of less common content types, a small correction needs to be made to the previous newsletter: File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg, our first featured picture, was the work of both Matthewedwards (submissions) and Grandiose (submissions), the latter of whom has also gone on to score with File:Map of the Battle of Guam, 1944.svg. Bonus points also continue to roll in; this round, Ealdgyth (submissions) earned triple points for her good articles on William the Conqueror and the Middle Ages, Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both earned triple points for their work on Western Jackdaw, now a good article, Dana Boomer (submissions) earned triple points for her work on lettuce and work by Stone (submissions) to ready antimony for good article status earned him triple points. Jarry1250 (submissions) managed to expand Vitus Bering far enough for a did you know, which was also worth triple points. All of these highly important topics featured on 50 or more Wikipedias at the start of the year.
An article on the WikiCup in the Wikimedia Blog, "Improving Wikipedia with friendly competition", was posted at the end of April. This may be of interest to those who are signed up to this newsletter, as well as serving as another way to draw attention to our project. Also, we would again like to thank Jarry1250 (submissions) and Stone (submissions), for continued help behind the scenes. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Urgent Help and Warning: the IP address, 212.121.219.1 is engaging in serious hacking activities, not just simple acts of vandalism in the other Wikipedia encyclopedias.
Warning: the IP address, 212.121.219.1 registered to Oldham MBC public libraries, and which is permanently blocked in English Wikipedia since 2009, is the source of serious hacking activities. Today on 14 May 2012 other vulnerable Wikipedia encyclopedias are under attack from this address where it is not blocked. This source is capable of hacking Wikipedia, as it is the case today in the other Wikipedia encyclopedias, because it has erased the history archives for instance in the Azerbaijan articles of the Wikipedia encyclopedias and is doing it in other country articles as well, which no simple vandal can do. This source is freely roaming and usurping right now.
Can anyone inform the administrators of the other Wikipedia encyclopedias and help them against the IP address, 212.121.219.1, because most of the small Wikipedia encyclopedias are vulnerable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.224.23.137 (talk) 21:51, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us! Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles. Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5.
