*... that the ownership of the 1888-established Hacı Abdullah Restaurant in Istanbul passed down from head chef to apprentice throughout its history?

I don't think this is accurate, or at least, it seems to be contradicted by our article - see Talk:Hacı Abdullah Restaurant#Translation issues and apparent contradiction about ownership. I pinged the main article contributor there in hopes he can explain / clear things up. The article has significant language issues as well, to the point that I'd be kind of hesitant about linking to it from the main page even without this issue. So if this doesn't get resolved quickly and others read the article and also conclude that it contradicts this hook, I would err on the side of just pulling this. (Pinging CeeGee here as well, and sole reviewer DigitalIceAge) -Elmer Clark (talk) 00:27, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

Revision as of 00:28, 14 December 2022

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

 • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
 • Offer a correction if possible.
 • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
 • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 16:46 on 12 November 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
 • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
 • Do not use edit fully-protected on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
 • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
 • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
 • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

Errors in "Did you know ..."

Errors in "On this day"

Battle of Baia

Much of the article, including the dates, look to be cited to near-contemporary 15th-century sources. This must surely be covered by modern scholarship? - Dumelow (talk) 07:34, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not convinced this rises to the level of being an error. There are contemporary sources from the 2000s listed in the References section. Sam Walton (talk) 22:30, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Battle of Mount Austen, the Galloping Horse, and the Sea Horse

The article states the attack on the Japanese began on 16 December, not 15. The event on 15 December was a Japanese attack on US fighter aircraft at an airfield - Dumelow (talk) 07:41, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done Moved this to the 16th and swapped it out for a staged entry. Sam Walton (talk) 22:38, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1981 Iraqi embassy bombing in Beirut

The word "Shia" does not appear in the article. The actual attribution of the bombing to al-Dawa doesn't appear to be supported by citation. The article lead gives 110 injured, but the infobox and main text give 100+, the sources cited in the main text state "injured more than one hundred" and "wounded about 100 others" - Dumelow (talk) 07:45, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(November 15)

"He is the team's all-time top goalscorer, and the second most-capped Ukrainian international behind Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (144)."

That he has 111 caps and is second on the all-time appearance list doesn't appear to be cited, the citation after this sentence in the article leads only to a list of Tymoshchuk's caps - Dumelow (talk) 09:12, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"He made his debut for his country in a 4–0 loss to Croatia in a UEFA Euro 1996 qualifying match in March 1995."

The citation in the article confirms that he appeared in the match but doesn't state that it was his debut - Dumelow (talk) 09:12, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"and captained the side to a second-place finish behind Poland"

Does not appear to be cited in the article - Dumelow (talk) 09:12, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingSkyLord, I see that you put the article through the review process. Could you help resolve these issues? If unresolved, we need to pull this; we can't have that many outstanding issues. Schwede66 00:20, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Schwede66, Both of the first two problems mentioned are referenced from the RSSSF list, so I directly referenced them. For the last issue, I just merged that sentence with the next one so it isn't unsourced. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 04:19, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The second point is now fixed. I looked at the RSSF source; could you please tell me how I use it to verify he is the second most-capped Ukrainian player. It just states he has 111 caps, the second reference lists Tymoshchuk as having 144 caps. How does the reader know there are not other players with eg. 120 caps? For the third point the reference you've provided gives the play-off against Germany. How do I verify that the team finished second behind Poland and that Shevchenko captained the side? - Dumelow (talk) 07:09, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
KingSkyLord, there are follow up questions for you but no ping, so here's the notification. Schwede66 10:14, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Coldplay videography

"Coldplay have released 65 music videos" - Can someone direct me to where this comes from? It is not cited and the article lists 52 music videos - Dumelow (talk) 09:12, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"the band signed a record deal with Parlophone in 1999" is not in the source cited - Dumelow (talk) 09:12, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Geology of the Moon

Literally none of the information in the first five sentences, which are drawn from the article, are cited. The article itself is 90% unsourced. The last four sentences describing the image are not found in the article or the image description page - Dumelow (talk) 06:53, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No objection to the comment about the article's sourcing (I'm aware that the POTD has already been swapped out). But the sentences describing the picture itself are clearly verifiable by simply looking at the image – all the cartographic features are labelled, and there is descriptive text in the bottom-left of the map. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 00:04, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
