Wikipedia:Missing Wikipedians

This is a list of Wikipedians who are no longer an integral part of the community. See also Wikipedia:List of administrators/Inactive.

Wikipedians who no longer edit due to confirmed death should instead be added to Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians.

Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Don't add users with fewer than ~1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left, do not add anonymous users identified by their IP address (they could have created an account and still be contributing, or they might have a roaming IP address) and do not add yourself. Leave a message on the person's talk page to let them know that you've added them to this list, if they ever should return they can remove themselves. Retired Wikipedians who do not wish to be listed here may also feel free to remove themselves.

• People who leave a goodbye message or a {{retired}} template on their user page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain from editing for at least 3 weeks are likely to have left permanently and may be added to the list.
• Wait at least 3 months before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
• In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
• Editors who return are no longer "missing" and should be removed from the list.
• If you add your own user name to the list as one of your final edits, your addition might be reverted since it is theoretically impossible for a "missing" Wikipedian to make an edit.

This page was mentioned in an Economist article on March 6, 2008: "Many who are excited about contributing to the site end up on the “Missing Wikipedians” page: a constantly updated list of those who have decided to stop contributing. It serves as a reminder that frustration at having work removed prompts many people to abandon the project."

The entries with the mop icon beside their name are Wikipedia administrators, or have been at one time.

• Abrech (talk · contribs · count) – Active Huggle user who stopped editing for a long time after June 2, 2008. Returned to make two edits on August 29, 2010.
• Abu badali (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit: September 11, 2007 – Left over concerns regarding non-free content usage, per the final edit. The final edit also indicates the user may return in "some months", depending upon progress in this area. Edited twice in 2008, making comments in discussions over the policy.
• Adam Carr (talk · contribs · count) – Started contributing September 2003. After many months of increasing frustration, stopped editing regularly February 15, 2007, then posted May 6 that he would no longer contribute to Wikipedia. Made a few sporadic edits afterwards.
• Adamsan (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit: May 1, 2006 – Replaced most user page content with "I give up. You win." on April 29, 2006, then removed that message with the final edit. May have left over concerns with external linking, per this edit to Talk:Stonehenge.
• Adoniscik (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit November 4, 2009. Made two edits in 2011.
• Affenhausen (talk · contribs · count) – created 107 new articles. Last edit March 31, 2006.
• Afluegel (talk · contribs · count) – Set-up the glass taskforce and was a prolific editor of glass related articles. Stopped editing without notice on September 15, 2009.
• AgentPeppermint (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit November 23, 2008; returned on January 20, 2010, to blank user page and post a farewell notice. made sporadic edits in 2011–2012.

• Anonymous anonymous (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit: December 23, 2006 – Announced her/his retirement on September 1, 2006, with real-life concerns cited as the reason for leaving in subsequent edits. Returned briefly in December 2006 to leave some seasons' greetings.
• Anonymous editor (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) – Last edit: June 17, 2006 – Administrator.
• Apollomelos (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit: August 19, 2005 – User & user talk pages were deleted May 21, 2005 by request, citing the reason "I am leaving the project because I no longer have the time to spare contributing to often controversial topics in which I must spend 75% of my time explaining the information to users who did not even bother to read up on the topics[...]". Final edit indicated this user would be returning; has not edited since.

• Badlydrawnjeff (talk · contribs · count) – following the deletion of the Daniel Brandt article. Later exercised his m:right to vanish. Account was moved to Bdj (talk · contribs · count), last edit was July 8, 2007. Returned briefly that December to vote in ArbCom elections.
• Balcer (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit on September 8, 2007; currently works on Wikimedia Commons.
• Baristarim (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit on September 8, 2007.
• Banes (talk · contribs · count) – On August 29, 2006 he left a retirement message on his userpage, saying he would be busy for the next few months, though he continued editing sporadically. Last edit November 17, 2006.

• BostonMA (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit July 17, 2007; stopped editing proflicially in February, a month after a failed RfA. 6000+ edits. No reason given.
• BrandonYusufToropov (talk · contribs · count) – Often signed as "BYT". Last edit September 6, 2009.
• Brat32 (talk · contribs · count) – Last edit August 24, 2006; blanked her/his userpage and replaced it with the message "I'm gone."
• Britney Spears (talk · contribs · count) – Stopped editing abruptly in 2005, made two more edits in early 2006, then nothing. Ms Spears regularly edited articles on comics. Her account was blocked in 2008 due to its username, but by this time had not edited for over two years.

Frequently commented at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, and contributed to a wide variety of articles on subjects including railway stations, U.S. interstates, politics, and the internet.
• ChrisGriswold (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) – Former administrator. Notable [1] for being forced to resign his adminship once arbitrators voted 6–0 to hear the case against him for disruptive sockpuppetry. [2] [3] Last edit on August 27, 2007.

Declared a semi-Wikivacation on May 13, 2006 and made some bot edits, blocks, and deletions up until June 26, 2006, and then declared a long-term Wikivacation on August 1, 2006 and has not edited since.
• CyborgTosser (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) – Administrator. Last edit May 3, 2007, after having a total of four edits between February 11, 2007 and May 27, 2009.

• Damuna (talk · contribs · count) – Has not edited since March 2011.
• Danakil (talk · contribs · count) – This user edited for only one and a half months, from August 1 to September 14, 2004, yet during that time made 3,009 edits. Although his page moves were controversial, he was responsible for the systematic and correct categorization of hundreds of programming languages and other software related articles.
• DanDs (talk · contribs · count) – Expanded many articles to very good B-class articles, and helped to get The Sword of Shannara to GA, but he left suddenly on July 19th, returning only 3 times after that, including blanking his userpage on 5 September 2008.

Appeared on Simple Wikipedia on July 21, 2005. He came back on December 23, 2005 to protect his user page and leave a message. His account was later compromised on July 16, 2008 and was blocked indefinitely.
