Punctuation (hyphenation)

I reverted your edit to Sierra Club. Our article on Hyphen explains that phrases like "federally owned lands" don't use a hyphen. The hyphen is proper in "well-known person" because "well" could be an adjective modifying "person", so the hyphen clarifies that it's an adverb modifying "known". By contrast, "federally" couldn't modify "lands" so there's no ambiguity. It's like "wholly owned subsidiary" -- perhaps the most common phrase in which the hyphen is improperly inserted. Your user page

I'm sorry to bug you beyond our discussion about the climate responsibility page, but I see that you've got your user page set up as though it were your own personal home page. I'm working on improving it, but I think that it should be moved into another larger discussion IF we don't get ACTUAL participation from those who had promised last week to work on parts of a template once it is up. That won't happen until mid-week, if at all. Otherwise, it falls to me to develop this on the weekend. I think the terms say December 20th). MaynardClark (talk) 19:53, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

I added to the end of the first paragraph in the Climate responsibility article this line: "...this article could be integrated with the Climate Ethics article and the Responsibility article studied."

That would at this time be my suggestion on what to do with it, IF there's anything there that's useful and would improve on the Climate Ethics discussion, though issues of 'responsibility' are surely complex and deserve much more thorough treatment than I am able to do at this time.

You are right, some larger vision may have value; what is there now could not develop that in the short time frame available, and I ought not to have posted it in such an incomplete way.

Climate Ethics and Climate Justice are aggressive social movements in liberal churches and a number of other churches. The term 'responsibility' may be a 'hot potato' that is difficult to vet... at this time ... in ways consistent with Wikipedia's mission. That was your winning card.

The userpage still needs cleaning up, but I think expecting a thorough cleanup in less than 48 hours is unrealistic for anyone except the most devoted hobbyist (who can afford to check such a site daily for comments). MaynardClark (talk) 18:19, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

December 2009

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Climate responsibility. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Article talk pages are not the place to discuss opinions of the subject of articles nor are such pages a forum. Thank you. —Largo Plazo (talk) 19:44, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

If I read the guidelines correctly, there is more leeway in terms of personal content on a user subpage as contrasted to the main user page. Based upon that belief, I proposed that you move your bio material to a user subpage, then make a user page, more in line with other user pages. I don't know if that would be acceptable to those arguing for delete, but if you found it acceptable, it might solve the problem. What do you think?--SPhilbrickT 16:24, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Looking for Wikipedia Ambassadors

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian associated with Harvard. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at schools in Boston and Cambridge (including Harvard), which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you live near Boston and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.

If you're an experienced and active Wikipedian, you might be interested alternatively in becoming an Online Ambassador. The role of Online Ambassadors is to serve as mentors for students; it doesn't require any in-person outreach. Take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

A tag has been placed on Jain Education International, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please see the page to see the reasons. If the page has since been deleted, you can ask me the reasons by leaving a message on my user talk page.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Why the article was deleted

In your deletion rebuttal, you said “ Not everything can be "re-written-up" in Wikipedia;”

In fact it can and is (with some rare exceptions not relevant here). If it cannot be rewritten up for Wikipedia, it won’t be included.

You also said, “Now, in America, where I suspect this judgment came from, the term JAIN is not as well known as say, "Christian" or "Muslim" - or even Hindu or Buddhist" “

That played no part in the decision.

You said “Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as copyright violations - false claim, indefensible claim”

Sorry, but you are incorrect. I do realize that you did not simply copy and paste, but light copy-editing is not enough to eliminate the concern about copyright. See Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing.

The subject does sound worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, but this isn’t the way to do it. Please feel free to contact me if you want some ideas.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 14:04, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

July 2012

Hello, MaynardClark. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Elder Helpers, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. VQuakr

Re: Nanak And Vegetarianism

Hi Maynard, you mistakenly added that Nanak the founder of Sikhism was a vegetarian. One of the most famour couplets written by Nanak was when he was chastised by Hindu Brahmins on his way to Kurukshetra for accepting meat from a hunter and eating it. "Fools Wrangle Over Meat and Flesh was his response" . See page 75 here. Saying that other Guru's were vegetarians others were not. The 6th and the 10th actually hunted meat. The Sikh position on meat is one of personal choice and personal conscience. Thanks SH 20:18, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Frank L. Hoffman and Mary Hoffman.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Frank L. Hoffman and Mary Hoffman.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 21:14, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Your POV edits on Barry Black

Maynard,

For some time now, you have been on a rather persistent campaign to incorporate an excessive amount on Barry Black's vegetarianism into his bio. In doing so, you have linked to YouTube, even though several editors have advised you that the videos there are generally not accepted here for several reasons, including copyright concerns; curiously, you have also used several links to Amazon.com, which never even reference his vegetarianism and are not reliable sources even if they did; and you have linked to interviews where his vegetarianism is never once mentioned. In the sourced quote which does remain in the article, Black makes it clear that his vegetarianism is "not something that is a test of fellowship in my church" - but he simply says, "I’m a vegetarian because I grew up that way." So your attempts to connect it to his Seventh-day Adventism are disproved by his own words. But Black also makes it clear that he neither publicly advocates nor proselytizes for vegetarianism. It's just a part of who he is. While your single-minded focus on including his vegetarianism in the BLP exposes your interest in doing both. As does your own user page. Black also exhibits a fondness for bow ties and shaves his head, but he doesn't advocate or proselytize for them either. So please refrain from continuing to do so in the future. Especially by including sources that have no relevance whatsoever to his vegetarianism. It can and likely will be construed as disruptive editing and POV pushing if you persist in restoring these irrelevant or inappropriate sources and could result in your being blocked from editing on the article altogether. The article currently states his vegetarianism and uses a source that explains it in perspective. As other editors have already weighed in, the consensus is that is more than sufficient. Piling on more is undue weight not supported or justified by his publicly stated position. Thanks. 107.214.30.15 (talk) 21:53, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Who wrote this? I gave up on this some time ago, but my understanding of Barry Black is that he grew up as a vegetarian BECAUSE he is a Seventh Day Adventist - he was SDA THEN and he remains that today, and that's the denomination he represents as Senate Chaplain.

While I gave up on this point some time ago, I continue to believe that YOUR POV is simple erroneous and offensive. It would be political suicide for him to PRESS his point; he is and remains a public SDA - a highly visible vegetarian SDA (even when he downplays something which is easily kidnapped by others for THEIR political purposes - something I do not do and have never done, and which I chide others for trying to do).

I think you should allow him to be listed as a vegetarian, which he is. MaynardClark (talk)

Have you even read the sources you sought to include in the article? More to the point, have you read the link that remains in this section? Black expressly states that his vegetarianism HAS NOTHING TO DO with his religion. So the rest of your argument, based upon that assumption, is meritless. Again, I respect your right to your chosen beliefs. I simply ask that you conform your editing to the standards of this project and not use the project to proselytize - or give the appearance of proselytizing - for your cause(s), either religious or dietary. That violates every tenet of Wikipedia. You also materially misstated another fact: He is simply not a "highly visible vegetarian." While he is a highly visible African-American, his dietary beliefs are invisible! Nor has he chosen to make his vegetarianism "highly visible." Your suggestion that he doesn't advocate for his vegetarianism because it would be "political suicide" is purely conjecture on your part, supported by nothing more than your own speculation. His diet is tangential and inconsequential to his official position - either because he has chosen to make it so; or simply because he believes it should be so. So who are we to overemphasize what he does not emphasize himself? Now if you can find a source where Black expounds, at length, on his vegetarianism and/or advocates for it in a more than offhanded manner, then that's certainly reasonable to include. But barring that, you're making a bigger deal of it for him, than the man does himself. And that is inappropriate and violates all the WP policies and guidelines you've been advised about. But you are correct about one thing: the article already states he is a vegetarian. It even links to a quote explaining his view on the subject. If that is enough for him, it should be more than sufficient for editors, and readers, here. 107.214.30.15 (talk) 23:09, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Nomination of Frank L. Hoffman for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Frank L. Hoffman is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Service awards

Hi Maynard, in class last night you asked about displaying multiple userboxes and service awards on your user page. I'm not certain how you want it to look, but I'd note one thing -- I think most people only display one service award, reflecting the highest number of edits that apply. So you might want to remove the "Journeyman" award now that you have attained the "Yeoman" level. There's no problem with displaying both, of course, if that's what you prefer -- but maybe a simpler look is what you're after? If this doesn't address your question, let me know! -Pete (talk) 17:10, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

This week we are going to start off with some basic review of all we've covered. So if you've been feeling behind or confused by all the details, we'll make sure we've got your questions answered before forging ahead! See you soon, -Pete (talk) 16:23, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

WIKISOO check-in

How's it going, MaynardClark? Just touching base as we start the fifth (!) week of the WIKISOO course. We're excited to see students working on such a diverse range of articles! If you haven't already, log in, scroll down to the bottom of the main course page to list your chosen final project article next to your own name; brag a little about your work (or just ask questions!) on the course talk page; and join the live lecture tomorrow as we move towards completion of the course! This is when things get exciting. :) Looking forward to seeing you in class! - Sara FB (talk) 23:38, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

I am working on three stubs and need some help:

@Pete @Snarfa

@Pete @Snarfa @Pete @Snarfa

Can't I list more than one? It only allows me to include one.

@MaynardClark, work on as many as you like! I believe you can add as many articles as you like - are you certain? Have another look. - Sara FB (talk) 02:22, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I see that you spotted the problem with linking to Rynn Berry within the reference template. I have reinstated the link using the first and last name and authorlink parameters - this now links to the author's Wikipedia page outside the URL title link. I have also added a dead link template - it seems that the site is no longer active and the back issues do not go back to 2003. It may be that an archive link exists somewhere, so the reference should remain in place. Regards,  GILO   A&E 21:21, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Thank you. Rynn Berry considered himself a fruitarian and had a book ready to go to press, we think - or it's in press (to be published posthumously), on a history of rawfoodism. MaynardClark (talk) 21:24, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

WIKISOO and AFC

If you're going to send emails, have the decency to give enough context so I can figure out what you're complaining about. Hasteur (talk) 16:14, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Draft:Rynn Berry (March 28)

Week 6 of WIKISOO

Hi MaynardClark! Just checking in as we head into the final week of the Writing Wikipedia Articles class. You can look through last week's ether pad notes, check out your homework assignments from Week 5, and watch last week's lecture on YouTube - all right here. Check out my note from last week (above) if you're still diving into your Final Project... or head over to the course talk page to see if anyone else is having the same issues you are! Looking forward to seeing you in the last live webinar of the session tomorrow. Big WikiLove. -Sara FB (talk) 23:18, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Maynard, the usual practice at Wikipedia is Bold, revert discuss. That is, if you make an edit that someone reverts, you head for the talk page rather than continuing to revert. I've left a note on the talk page, and I'd appreciate it if you would revert yourself and start discussing instead. I'd also be grateful if you would fix the signature in my earlier post that you inadvertently changed here. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 22:30, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Designated Member Review requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Hello from a fellow health fan!

Hello, my name is Lane. I edit health articles with Wikiproject Medicine and I live in NYC. I saw what you are doing with Designated Member Review, and I am happy for your interest in clinical research. I also edit articles related to clinical research.

It so happens that I have a colleague visiting from India, AbhiSuryawanshi, who is with me in New York but will be attending the Wikipedia:Meetup/Boston/3rd Annual Wikimedia New England General Meeting tomorrow, Saturday 19 July. He does medical translation to Indian languages and manages a small amount of clinical research in India, and is here in the United States to talk with people about doing a bit more. He was disappointed that he was unable to meet with some of the people he had hoped to meet at Harvard to talk about global health, and now I am seeing that you are in Boston, a Wikipedian, and also interested in global health and clinical research ethics.

I am writing to suggest that perhaps when Abhishek is in Boston tomorrow you two could meet, either at the general meeting or otherwise. I myself will not be attending this meeting, but I too would like to meet you when next I am in Boston. It is nice to meet you on-wiki now. Take care, and it would be nice to talk more soon. Email me if you want to voice or video chat sometime. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:36, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi MaynardClark,

I made some small copy edits, MOS, removing lists, ect, ect. I would be happy to discuss these changes on the article's talk page. To blindly revert them all and call them "sabotages" is offensive and not helpful. Thank you, --Malerooster (talk) 01:03, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Yes, we should discuss them, but IMO those are not small edits. MaynardClark (talk) 01:06, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

  • I appreciate reasons for a very trimmed down version of most if not all articles.

September 2014

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be engaged in an edit war with one or more editors according to your reverts at Joel Fuhrman. Although repeatedly reverting or undoing another editor's contributions may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, and often creates animosity between editors. Instead of edit warring, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. Alexbrn talk|contribs|COI 04:07, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, Alex. You will see that we DISCUSS issues (and not always in the kindest of terms). We have the 3Rs rule, which I've not violated, but there are substantive edits and arguments which I feel warrant a referee in this matter. Whqat has not been acknowledged are my quesations for a concept (or topical) organization of the inner portion of the article, since the subject has based his work - the ANDI and his teaching - on nutrient-density, SPECIFICALLY the notion of micronutrient density. What is missing for 3rd party readers is a discussion of what micronutrients and macronutrients are (though they could look them up with the links). Other actors on the article seem determined to not look at the scientifically established (or at least scientifically discussed) concept of nutrient-density (as I documented on the talk page). I hope that you will applly the same rigorous standards of editorial fairness when looking at some of the comments (not merely edits) of the other actors on the article. MaynardClark (talk) 04:12, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
Edit-warring has been happening on that page and 3RR I am sure has been broken. This was just a gentle reminder to ensure you aware of the policy. Discussions about the article's content should take place on its talk page but in brief it's important to avoid WP:OR and WP:SYNTH by ensuring any sources cited for Fuhrman's concepts are explicitly about those concepts. Alexbrn talk|contribs|COI 04:24, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Conflict of interest?

Please be aware of WP:COI, Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest. Have you got any conflict of interest around the topic of Joel Fuhrman? Alexbrn talk|contribs|COI 04:20, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

The other actors on the article seem to have a COI. Have you asked each of them?

Nothing but the facts - established facts. MaynardClark (talk) 04:22, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

That was a non-answer. To avoid misunderstandings and save time could you please either answer the question or simply say you are not going to (which you are perfectly entitled to do). To be clear I am not asking for any details, just a simple "yes", "no" or "no comment" would be helpful. Alexbrn talk|contribs|COI 04:27, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm guessing that you or some of the other actors may, since they have reverted edits numerous times, including grammatically correct edits. I think you need another super-editor coming in here to review it.

An answer to your question depends on what you mean by COI. I do believe in the scientifically-established concept of nutrient density as clinically useful (and as established independently of Dr. Fuhrman's ANDI formulation, which is essentially a chart of foods RANKED by their nutrient-density; ranking is commonly used in statistics AND biostatistics), but I have no fCOI with anything related to Joel Fuhrman. Did I answer your question? MaynardClark (talk) 04:31, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Not really. I'll not press it. Alexbrn talk|contribs|COI 04:38, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Rynn Berry

The article Rynn Berry you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Rynn Berry for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Norman Daniels requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/norman-daniels/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Can you suggest further sites or actions I could take to find editors with related interests? Many thanks.TBR-qed (talk) 15:09, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Nomination of Ruth Atkins (UK nurse) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ruth Atkins (UK nurse) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ruth Atkins (UK nurse) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Xqxf (talk) 16:36, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

A possible 'rewrite' could be Role of nurses in ebola outbreaks (patient care, advocacy, research subjects, policy contributors, etc.). I would like to know how many research subects are in this specific trial (which neither the more general vaccine article nor the array of articles on the history of ebolavirus outbreaks are appropriate to hold), how long this drug trial is expected to last/require and some of the crisis issues related to vaccine production, and maybe even convert the page to a page that addresses some of that interest in the research subjects. MaynardClark (talk) 17:15, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

We typically don't have articles about people only notable for one event. The information about clinical trials can go into the article on CAd3-ZEBOV just fine... Issues about vaccine production are probably best covered in Ebola virus disease#Vaccine. Information on the role of nurses you've suggested fits in the Nursing article just fine, without a separate article about Ebola nurses. We already cover some of the effects of Ebola virus disease specifically on healthcare workers: Ebola_virus_epidemic_in_West_Africa#Deaths_of_healthcare_workers. If you want to rewrite/convert the Ruth Atkins article into an entirely different topic, you could do that in your user space. But it sounds like you want a bunch of different information that fits into existing articles just fine... Xqxf (talk) 17:47, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
Be sure that it does include that data somewhere (I don't yet see anything approaching it at this time!). The human interest side of the human subjects research is underappreciated, yet it's really a very stressful role in testing something that is that urgently required but for which efficacy has not been calculated. There COULD be a 'stub class article' MaynardClark (talk) 17:53, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
If you want to be sure the data is included, the best way is to keep an eye on the CAd3-ZEBOV article and see that the data is added when the trials are further along. About the human interest side, this is probably best covered in articles like Human subject research and Guidelines for human subject research. The articles on ZMapp and brincidofovir (other Ebola drugs) have "human interest" sections, and you could add similar to CAd3-ZEBOV, perhaps. (Or expand Ebola virus disease#Vaccine to cover anything you feel is missing about the use of experimental drugs in Ebola patients.) Xqxf (talk) 18:06, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

edit war warning

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on European Sleep Apnea Database. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

Jeff Novick page??

Great edit to Plant-based diet - perhaps you could make a Jeff Novick article? I think it would make a great contribution to the plant-based page. I would start but am swamped in RL and am only on the WP in spurts. -Classicfilms (talk) 18:25, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Thank you. I will. Maybe not today, though. What would you like to see included in it? MaynardClark (talk) 18:33, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Of course, time is always hard for everyone, maybe just something to think through for awhile. WP:BLP articles are something that I tend to do, but am pretty to open to content. Maybe it would be useful to see what is there for T. Colin Campbell, John A. McDougall, Rip Esselstyn, and Caldwell Esselstyn. With BLP's secondary sources are probably the most important place to begin so that may take some time to track down. I've read Novick's work and it is I feel quite notable but it may take some time to organize enough materials for an article. Plant-Based Diet is a tough area because there isn't a great deal of consensus as to terminology but maybe BLP's are a good place to begin -- and to expand (meaning current articles could all use work). -Classicfilms (talk) 20:14, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
Here is a 'start': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MaynardClark/JeffNovick
I prefer tne nutrient-dense approach, not the calorie-dense approach. MaynardClark (talk) 20:20, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
Wow, that's a great outline. I would say that the goal now would be to work with WP:BLPSOURCES. Solid secondary references tend to be at the heart of BLP's and that is what may take time to track down. Signing off for today but will check back in next week. -Classicfilms (talk) 20:22, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Hannah Allam requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello MaynardClark. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Wary of promotionalism

Were you not a long term editor, with a number of quite good articles to your credit, I would be placing a template warning for promotional editing. Some of the additional material you added to Miranda Esmonde-White in an attempt to build up her bio is quite excessive, and some of your other work seems devoted to the praise of particular dietary practices more than to the biography of the individual. I think I managed to deal with the Esmonde-white article sufficiently to avoid deletion, but I urge you to remember that quality rather than amount of material is what shows notability. I recognize it can be difficult sometimes to separate the explanation of what someone promotes, from promotion of the ideas, but there is a difference. (I sometimes word the difference as promotion is what the subject wants to say, while encycopedic content is what the reader who wants to know something about the person would want to know. (There may also be some medical claims in these articles not supported by MEDRES quality sources--I think the application of MedRes is a little over-strict sometimes, but the rule is basically a good idea) Along another tack, you might want to look again at Designated Member Review, which needs explanation, not the reprinting of formal guidelines. Copy and pasting

We run "copy and paste" detection software on new edits. One of your edits appear to be infringing on someone else's copyright. See also Wikipedia:Copy-paste. We at Wikipedia usually require paraphrasing. If you own the copyright to this material please follow the directions at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials to grant license. Frances Kamm has entire sentences copypasted in. Aside from just the obvious copyright concerns, this also leads to the use of style and content inconsistent with Wikipedia's norms. LeadSongDog come howl! 18:25, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

These are essentially (a) titles of the two Harvard Faculty and (b) their important books (bibliogrpahy is proper format). How is that a copyright violation? You did not show that 'entire sentences' were pasted into the article. The software says that phrases (academic titles, recent important books).
The second of your comments was that "this also leads to the use of style and content inconsistent with Wikipedia's norms." Could you be more specific about how either of these articles is inconsistent with Wikipedia's norms." It's content which does indeed appear in both a citation and the article itself. Surely the article IS better because of the additional and more current content. MaynardClark (talk) 19:38, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Please be a bit more cautious with this article, your conflict of interest is showing in your edits.

This article is meant to be a biography and should be dealing primarily with Berry. Material that is not included in independent reliable sources is wholly inappropriate. What you may know or have heard about him is both unsourced and, so far as an encyclopedic article is concerned, trivial.

Yes, promotional material about his books quotes various people. This material is clearly biased as it was selected by the publisher to promote the book. That the person quoted has other credits is completely off-topic and intended to build up the subject of the article by building up those quoted as saying nice things about the book they wrote.

Yes, vegetarian/vegan sources have lots of nice things to say about vegetarianism/veganism, vegetarians/vegans and the books they write. This article is currently littered with such material in need of extensive culling. Synthesis compounds the problem. - SummerPhDv2.0 16:36, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

I would be willing to develop such an article. MaynardClark (talk) 23:12, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Nomination of Climate Action Plan for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Climate Action Plan is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Climate Action Plan until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Since you contributed to the discussion over at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Avoiding dangerous climate change, I wanted to ping you and let you know that your input would be valued. I am posting this notice on the talk page for every editor who has contributed to that discussion and the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Climate action, regardless of their vote or apparent viewpoint. Hello, I noticed that your user page may not meet Wikipedia's user page guideline. If you believe that your user page does not violate our guideline, please leave a note on this page. Alternatively you may add {{Db-u1}} to the top of the page in question and an administrator will delete it, or you can simply edit the page so that it meets Wikipedia's user page guideline. Thank you.

The pages in question are User:MaynardClark, User:MaynardClark/AboutMe, User:MaynardClark/Wikipedia and User:MaynardClark/Veg. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 22:23, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Could you tell me what specifically ON those pages is in question? I do not believe that there's a violation here.

  • "There is no fixed use for user pages, except that usually one's user page has something about oneself...Personal writings suitable within the Wikipedia community..."
  • "Non-article Wikipedia material such as reasonable Wikipedia humor, essays and perspectives, personal philosophy, comments on Wikipedia matters..."
  • "The Wikipedia community is generally tolerant and offers fairly wide latitude in applying these guidelines to regular participants. Particularly, community-building activities that are not strictly "on topic" may be allowed, especially when initiated by committed Wikipedians with good edit histories. At their best, such activities help us to build the community, and this helps to build the encyclopedia."

We've gone through lots of issues, discussions, and praise, but the aboutme page was in particular suggested as a way to discuss issues important to the Wikipedian. MaynardClark (talk) 23:10, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

The guideline at WP:UP is "limited autobiographical and personal content" and "A small and proportionate amount of suitable unrelated material". You literally have the "five page résumé" instead of the "brief three sentence summary". Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 01:47, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Only MaynardClark is the userpage.MaynardClark (talk) 01:49, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
? You're kidding right? If not please read WP:UP again. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 02:39, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
OK. Let me get to work on migrating some of this content elsewhere. WP:USERTALKBLOG. Is that what you would suggest/wish? MaynardClark (talk) 02:55, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
I offer more of an FYI, seems excessive. Personal BIOs should probably be a paragraph or two limited to the userpage. I don't think Infobox Writter is to be used outside Wikipedia article space, I have seen admins delete it off personal pages. I leave the cleanup/interpretation of guidelines to you for now. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 21:05, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. Changes cannot happen until Sunday, though. MaynardClark (talk) 21:20, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

I have removed part of your addition to the above article, as it appears to have been copied directly from http://mghcgh.org/news-events/events/the-intergenerational-legacy-of-childhood-malnutrition/, a copyright web page. All content you add to Wikipedia must be written in your own words. — Diannaa (talk) 20:00, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on James H. Ware requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/features/in-memoriam-james-ware-biostatistician-leader-mentor/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Warning 1

Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Ann Wigmore. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Jytdog (talk) 00:53, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

That is in the talk page, not in the body of the article. I'm telling you that you need to look for evidence that AWF changed its name to HHI, since your claim (based upon an Internet publication) contradicts a later paragraph in the body of the article. I've been a Wikipedian for a very long time, and we can only tell the truth to the best of our knowledge. But I know from observation that the claims you, Jytdog, are making are factually erroneous. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

Stare Source

Hey mate that would be a great quote to include in the Frederick J. Stare Article, but I can't find a publication of the speech anywhere. Did you attend the lecture and maybe have a transcript or a recording... or perhaps a contact? Yours! Bengt Hennig (talk) 01:28, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

I attended the meeting at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. I heard Dr. Willett make the comment. I wish I had audiorecorded it (or better yet, videorecorded it) and posted it for public access. However, THIS URL has an interesting article (duplicating information found in the Award lecture - at that time): https://www.statnews.com/2016/09/12/sugar-industry-harvard-research/.

Paging through the letters, Kearns was “shocked” by his level of cooperation with the sugar industry, she said.

There are more comments like that in this and other articles. MaynardClark (talk) 03:27, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

The article Limitarianism (disambiguation)‎ has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

  • Please note that disambiguation pages are meant to be navigation aids for readers and searchers, not articles. It looked like you wanted to write an article about Christian limitarianism. I encourage you to do that, and once the article exists, then make a dab page. Be sure to read through MOS:DAB first. Thanks! — Gorthian (talk) 07:52, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
  • @Gorthian: I think I've tidied it up now: we have:
PamD 07:43, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you very much! At the least, readers are confused when they read what appear to be the same word but might in context refer two quite different ideas, unrelated to one another. There may be others, but I know of these, and now the Wikipedia helps readers see these two divergent streams of intellectual development, where dictionaries do not. MaynardClark (talk) 16:49, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
That's exactly what dab pages are for! Many thanks to PamD for making it all work. — Gorthian (talk) 01:06, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News

Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the February 2017 GOCE newsletter. The Guild has been busy since the last time your coordinators sent out a newsletter!

December blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 December; the themes were Requests and eliminating the November 2015 backlog. Of the 14 editors who signed up, nine editors completed 29 articles. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all who took part.

January drive: The January drive was a great success. We set out to remove December 2015 and January and February 2016 from our backlog (195 articles), and by 22 January we had cleared those and had to add a third month (March 2016). At the end of the month we had almost cleared out that last month as well, for a total of 180 old articles removed from the backlog! We reduced our overall backlog by 337 articles, to a low of 1,465 articles, our second-lowest month-end total ever. We also handled all of the remaining requests from December 2016. Officially, 19 editors recorded 337 copy edits (over 679,000 words).

February blitz: The one-week February blitz, focusing on the remaining March 2016 backlog and January 2017 requests, ran from 12 to 18 February. Seven editors reduced the total in those two backlog segments from 32 to 10 articles, leaving us in good shape going in to the March drive.

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 stepped aside as lead coordinator, remaining as coordinator and allowing Miniapolis to be the lead, and Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators. Thanks to all who participated!

Speaking of coordinators, congratulations to Jonesey95 on their well-deserved induction into the Guild of Copy Editors Hall of Fame. The plaque reads: "For dedicated service as lead coordinator (2014, 1 July – 31 December 2015 and all of 2016) and coordinator (1 January – 30 June 2015 and 1 January – 30 June 2017); exceptional template-creation work (considerably streamlining project administration), and their emphasis on keeping the GOCE a drama-free zone."

Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Miniapolis, Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

The standard practice is to redirect articles about occupations to the related topic. See archaeologist, animal rights activist. There's also a problem in that some of the content was not cited.

A couple of things:

  • Perhaps some of the content applies to the animal rights movement article.
  • It looks like there's already an article for Animal Rights Without Liberation - so that section is not needed
  • You may want check out the {{Animal rights}} navigation template, based upon the number of "See also" items that were in the article to see if there are other items that should be added to that template.–CaroleHenson (talk) 04:21, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
  • My objection to what you did (in redirecting the article) is that (a) an animal liberationist is not an 'occupation' and (b) the Animal Liberationist article was focused upon what self-described animal liberationists think that they believe. The Animal liberation movement article talks about action and what is done in the name of 'animal' advocacy, which is somewhat different (and seemingly written as a denigration). The issues of rights vs. optimized consequences seems for the individual 'humane believers' to be crucial, foundational, central, pivotal to who each of these living persons considers herself or himself to be - which then eventuates in both public and private behaviors. The article Shekhar Saxena has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. reddogsix (talk) 02:12, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of David Freeman (journalist)

Hello MaynardClark,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged David Freeman (journalist) for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Norman Daniels categories

Thanks for your message, but unfortunately you've not really understood how categories work on Wikipedia. I can see that the article says that he studied at Balliol College, which is why he's - correctly - in Category:Alumni of Balliol College, Oxford. However, there is a Wikipedia category principle that articles are placed in the lowest level category applicable, and not in the parent categories above it. This is set out at Wikipedia:Categorization#Subcategorization (shortcut "WP:SUPERCAT", to which I referred you earlier in an edit summary, but which you would appear to have missed). Put simply, it says, Paris goes into the category "Cities of France" but not also into the higher-level category "Populated places in France", because the category "Cities of France" is itself a member of the "Populated places in France" category (it is a subcategory, in other words), and so all members of the subcategory "Cities of France" are included in the parent category "Populated places in France" by being part of the subcategory.

Applying this to the Oxford situation: (a) Wikipedia has categories for alumni of every Oxford college and hall, e.g. Category:Alumni of Balliol College, Oxford; (b) these are all subcategories of Category:Alumni of the University of Oxford; (c) if they are in the subcategory for their college, they should not be in the parent category for the university; (d) the OU alumni category even has a big sign on it, {{Category diffuse}}, which says in clear terms "Pages in this category should be moved to subcategories where applicable. This category may require frequent maintenance to avoid becoming too large. It should directly contain very few, if any, pages and should mainly contain subcategories." In other words, we put Oxford alumni in college alumni categories, not college alumni categories and the university alumni category as well.

All I am doing, therefore, is applying the general editing guideline at Wikipedia:Categorization#Subcategorization and the specific notice at Category:Alumni of the University of Oxford. Norman Daniels belongs only at Category:Alumni of Balliol College, Oxford. He does not belong at Category:Alumni of the University of Oxford because he is in the appropriate college subcategory and Wikipedia does not double-up on such categories. Still less does he belong at Category:Balliol College, Oxford, which ought to be for articles directly about the college itself, rather than a general repository for anyone who's studied there. I hope this makes sense. Please remove the stray categories - and, better still, find a reference that shows that he went to Balliol, because the article doesn't have a reference for this claim at present. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 00:33, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

I had looked for that but had been unable to locate it when I looked. I appreciate (and had already understood) that principle. MaynardClark (talk) 00:36, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
Good. It's a pity you found it necessary to revert me twice and leave me a message telling me to stop what I was doing, all because you couldn't find a category that was there all along. If you understood the principle, why did you keep adding the university alumni cat instead of the Balliol alumni cat? BencherliteTalk 00:42, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
He was also a Faculty member of Tufts College AND Tufts University Medical School. Then he was a Faculty member of HSPH AND Harvard University, so those are NOT the same; but the rule you cited, it seems that there should be two categories for his Faculty roles at Tufts and two for Harvard. Harvard's 'every tub on its own bottom' rule - and several campuses - 3 main campuses and quite a few other campuses - is part of the reason for this. The PhD program in health policy is in Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts. MaynardClark (talk) 00:45, 23 May 2017 (UTC)
OK, I'm happy to defer to you on that one! Good luck with finding sources for further improvements to the article. BencherliteTalk 00:48, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Citation needed

Thank you for your recent contribution to Consistent life ethic‎. You added a useful detail. However, you didn't cite any sources. Can you add a citation for where you found the information in this this edit? Thank you. Sondra.kinsey (talk) 18:59, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

I had thought that references to this information would have already been in the link to Rachel MacNair's Wikipedia article, but I have added such references (maybe different references) to the Consistent Life Ethic article. MaynardClark (talk) 20:40, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

The article Michelle Carter (defendant) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia is not News and WP:1EVENT.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. reddogsix (talk) 20:40, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Microsoft Stream

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I replaced your edits on Microsoft Stream because of the fact that they were promotional and relied on Microsoft, the creator of the service, as the single source. RileyBugz会話投稿記録 19:44, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, though I think it's important to get something out there ASAP, and I think that a link to a Microsoft website is useful. I added a link to Microsoft mobile services.MaynardClark (talk) 19:46, 20 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Can you tell me where you found out that Michelle Carter's middle name is "D."? I have looked everywhere, and I cannot find that. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 19:10, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Middle initial, but you're right. The court documents do not list a middle initial (MI), and there's 'Michelle D. Carter' who shows up voluminously in Google searches. IMO, we should not use a middle initial for this Michelle Carter, but I also feel that we should not write this article in ways which encourage anger and spite toward her. MaynardClark (talk) 19:14, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
All of the Google searches are merely "repeating" from this article. And this article had the middle initial of "D" placed in there by mistake. I removed it. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 19:28, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
