Pennines
I think it is pretty much the long established wording - I haven't checked back thoroughly, but here is the wording from last year. It seems to me reasonable to say that the Pennines "separate", broadly, the NW of the country not just from the NE (that is, Northumberland and Durham) but from Yorkshire - which is really a region unto itself, not part of the NE. Anyway, much of the Pennines is (are?) administratively in the NW and the NE regions, as well as in Yorkshire. So, yes, that part of the IP's edit looked OK to me. Got a wee problem. I was just about to create an article on Wimborne Minster Astronomical Clock, when another user came along and started the entry (really badly). I checked his contribs. and he's been going crazy starting astro-clock articles (which needed to be done) but the articles are simply atrocious (poor spelling, punc, factual errors, etc.) The worst thing has been that in several cases, I found whole paragraphs copy-and-pasted from websites, which have then been mis-attributed to offline sources. I left a message with some examples on his talkpage but I very much doubt he will respond.
It's extra worrying given that he's been here for over seven years, and I'm almost frightened to go further back through his history (mainly churches and trams). After giving up on trying to find an accurate location for the Dog and Duck I've stumbled into the ideal web site. I haven't really understood how it works but use http://www.locatinglondon.org/index.html and type "Dog and Duck" into "Quick place search" and you'll get a marker very near the tavern on John Rocque's 1746 map. Drag and enlarge. Then use the drop down menu at the top right of the map to select, say, Map or Satellite. They seem to have gone to a lot of trouble to line up the maps to GIS by removing distortions in Rocque's map. It's magic! And the answer? I'll leave that to you! Yes, I'm not sure either, especially (and usually, I suspect) if they are linked in the article main body. I also notice that some lists link every instance (e.g. of genre, record label, other artists, etc.) while some link only the first. If the lost is in a sortable table, of course, there is more argument for linking every instance, as you never know what will be on top. And with a long table like this one you might have to navigate off the page to see a link. But I'll leave it entirely up to you. By all means add a rationale at the top while you have it still in your sandbox, if you want - and then the hoards of drive-by-Moschelites will know what to do! Hi Martin, I saw your note on talk:Newport Castle that you uploaded some new photos of the castle. It's still nearly six weeks off, but in September the UK is participating in Wiki Loves Monuments. Would you be interesting taking lots and lots of photos (and then a few more) and uploading them to Commons during the competition? The focus is one Grade II and II* listed buildings, and as you can see from Grade I listed buildings in Monmouthshire and Grade II* listed buildings in Monmouthshire, Monmouth has its fair share, and even if a building already has photos on Commons, the more the merrier. They certainly are, and I particularly like those of the watergate. The amount of detail you can make out in this photo is excellent, and we didn't have anything at all from this angle before. That new angle makes the pyramidal buttresses at the base of the tower next to the watergate clearer, so that you can see their similarity to buttresses at Goodrich Castle. A similarity I hadn't noticed before, but which has been noted in reliable sources.

The NSA spying-on-allies story really should go into ITN, but the current article, 2013 mass surveillance disclosures, runs to something like 19,000 words — which in hoary old newspaper terms would equate to more than 500 column-inches of type! Way, way too long and unwieldy.
Needed, a separate, much shorter article dealing mainly with the October reports of surveillance of heads of state, esp. Merkel — who at least according to some reports is really truly genuinely upset & not just engaged in "outrage theater," as some NSA apologists have smugly asserted. SCA brought this to my attention, and I agree with the criticism and that separating out an article might be the perfect solution. As it stands we have the nom resting on the one sentence bullet point in the list. I cannot think of a useful title, but there were worldwide protests yesterday, including one in Washington attended by people across the political spectrum. I like to flatter myself that some editors might take my surreal rantings as serious comment. Such a ploy often seriously backfires, alas. And I immensely admire editors who are simply consistently sincere and trustworthy. I guess, ideally, we'd all use "emotion markers" like we do with font: <sarc>, <irony>, <pity>, <disgust> etc. Smileys can be so unbecoming. The stated deadline per policy is after seven days of the creation of the discussion (this of course depends on the backlog). This can be found at WP:GD#Overview of the AFD deletion process, WP:GD#Closure and WP:DPAFD. The {{closing}} tag, does not state the tag should be ignored after an hour in longer cases: "If this page has not been edited for more than an hour, it is usually safe to remove this template. However, closing discussions involves weighing up and balancing evidence, Wikipedia's standards and policies, and editor consensus. If the debate is long, involves complex issues, or was acrimonious, please allow slightly more time." It's a matter of courtesy, if you feel that the administrator has left the tag there and does not intend on closing the debate, then it is usually best to leave a note on the admin's talk page inquiring about it before you edit the page. I understand not everyone is completely familiar with this process, so once again I'm not very concerned with it. I think part of the problem with the template wording is that it addresses two different groups - one editors (some of whom may feel that they still have more to say), the other admins who are concerned with getting it closed in a timely manner (especially if there is backlog)? Hi! It's a fair question. The answer is that that editor/those editors (don't know if there's one or two, but it looks like one with two names) not only spammed about a hundred links to the Getty archive, but in almost every case copied the archive description verbatim from that source (please follow the link I left in my edit summary for confirmation). That is the copyvio. If you want to add the Getty link back the article please feel free to do so; but please remove the copyvio which you have (inadvertently) restored. I've not opened a CCI about this so far, but if you feel that my judgement should receive some "official" scrutiny, I'm more than happy to do so. I apologize for misusing the NPOV template. I thought I had posted my explanation on the talk page, but when I went back there were no comments from me there, which makes it look like a drive by. I must have gotten distracted and not finished.
I will post a detailed commentary later this week.
I know and respect Dr. Healy, but I think the article needs to reflect that his point of view is not universally accepted, and I'm concerned that his opinions and value judgments are being presented as undisputed facts throughout the article.
In many ways my argument is a simple one: WP:NPOV requires that the article weigh different points of view according to the extent to which they are adhered to by experts in the field. If Dr. Healy's point of view were universally accepted or even a majority viewpoint, the world would be a very different place and he would be part of the establishment rather than an outside critic of the system. Thus I think other points of view need to be represented in the article.
I look forward to an enjoyable and intellectually stimulating discussion.
I have a registered account but do not currently use it. It's a long story, but I its not because I was banned, blocked or anything of that sort, so much as that I felt I was subjected to a harassment campaign by another user. The weather here has been excellent, but I hope that the IP address trackers don't allow you to nail my location down closer than within a few miles. That would be a bit concerning. Fortunately my own use of these sites tells me my previous antagonist is not a Californian.
I'd like to see the rest of that article reworked a little so it reads a little less like a press release from Dr. Healy's agent, but don't want to stir up a lot of antagonism. So I'll leave it to you to suggest any further steps.
