Before her recent move into film Arroyave was an antiques dealer. Hopkins explained that he met her when he walked into her shop in Pacific Palisades, a beach neighbourhood of Los Angeles.[1]

Arroyave had a small role in The Human Stain, a film which was directed by Robert Benton and starred Hopkins. She later played Gina in Slipstream, an experimental film both written and directed by Hopkins, which she also produced. Hopkins indicated that Arroyave was a motivating force in the film's fruition.[2]
