Iron Maiden

Do it or do not revert me. However, I don't think my edits need to be discussed anywhere. I am bold and that's what I am. Either acknowledge my edits, either do not. But my stance is clear and this article needs a lot, a lot, a lot of work.

The article looks much, much better for what I did. Look at it and tell me I am wrong. If people are unhappy - then let's discuss. But reversion is bad, bad habit and I never do it. So, man, I am pledging for loyalty and acknowledgement in the name of the future developping. I don't think I need permission or anything else in order to explain and justify an edit. I am an established and seasoned editor, not some fellow with yellow around my mouth. I know what I am doing and I consider it right. That's why I don't think I need any kind of permission. If you are not happy - then I am open to discussion. But if you come and decide to revert, just for the sake of it with such beaurocratic reasons as "We have to discuss" - I don't think so.

Scarian is taking personal jab against me. He is abusing his power in order to silence my opinion and is persistently reverting me on the Iron Maiden page, because of relative inexperience and relative incompetence. It is remarkable that person of his standing - an administrator - has fallen to such petty ways of resolving issues. He didn't discussed anything about Iron Maiden, just kept reverting and then suddenly when I expressed disappointment in his way of resolving issues, he decided to block me up, saying it is a personal attack. While I wasn't happy, I had no intention to attack Scarian or to cause my blocking. My version of Iron Maiden can be found on the history page, I regard it as a better and I was continuosly hindered by Scarian adn other editors. I am appealing to administrators because of Scarian's inability to see the truth and his remarkable disrespect toward my standing as an established and capable editor

Bob Dylan

Mad Hatter, your radical re-write of the post 2000 section of the Bob Dylan article has done a valuable job in reduced an article that was threatening to become over-long and unwieldy. However, I disagree with your putting some recent Dylan events into a new section called ‘Tributes and legacy’. For example, it makes no sense to include Dylan’s exhibition of his art in Germany last year, and the accompanying catalogue, in ‘Tributes and legacy’ since clearly this was an important new development in Dylan’s career, in the same way the publication of Vol. One of Dylan’s autobiography was an important development. Also, you have lost some information I thought was valuable, which I intend to restore. Space opera

The reason the "list" article is a redirect, is that it is entirely original research. the main article has a list already, so this would be redundant, and as no-one can be bothered to find more sources, it seems unlikely that the list would ever be large enough to need a seperate page. The alternative is the drawn out process of AfD of this content fork, which would almost certainly say merge. I will be replacing my comments very shortly with referenced links. This was not a matter of opinion. It merely stated the fact that Robbie outdid Gary in popularity and stardom. The documentary answers all you're concerns. Gary pretty much conceded defeat in the film and i do not believe that I did anything to challenge otherwise. If anything, it was Gary's comments I've reflected on. I will however remove the "Crap songwriter" from the paragraph as i understand why some may be upset by it.

Swearing and abusing at other users is not an acceptable means of retracing comments. This will only lead to a repetition of comments being added again and again and eventually reporting such behaviour regardless of previous posts and work.

Blur

Hi. I've reverted a few of your edits on the Blur article. The "height of fame" section header was rather inappropriate, because Blur arguably became more famous worldwide with the American-sounding Blur. Also, by adding "Backing vocals" to all of the musicians in the second sentence of the lead, you make it long and ungainly. Best to just list the main instruments they are primarily identified with; by keeping it short and sweet, we make for a more engaging lead. Remember that we are targeting the articles towards a reader who doesn't know anything about Blur. As for the 2004–2009 section, I believe a whole section needs to be devoted to how Blur have done nothing in that time. Also note WP:RECENT, which means that more recent information shouldn't be given undue coverage compared to older stuff. indopug (talk) 16:20, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Verve

This is not an album, it's an EP. Check the rules:

a CD single has around 10–28 minutes of music, an EP has up to 36 minutes, and an album generally has 30–80 minutes.

Verve is, give or take, 30 minutes long - whilst that could just fit in the album category, it's most comfortable in the EP category. And it only has five tracks - every other Verve album has at least ten. Lastly, Ashcroft himself referred to A Storm in Heaven as their first album (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfgyGszPZuE, 6:09).

Mad Hatter, we don't know each other but it saddens me to see you edit warring over the article you have put so much into. I urge you to take these matters up with other editors on the article talk page, just as has already been suggested more than once. If you were to continue as you are currently doing, I feel that would begin to seriously undermine your established position as a significant and respected contributor to the article. I hope you don't find this comment intrusive. Please, reflect on this, and try to start to work these things out on the talk page instead. I believe you can rectify the situation if you do this now, before matters deteriorate any further. Again, sorry if this is an intrusion; you may know more about the whole situation than I do. Thought you'd be interested in this

User Carmaker1, showed up out of nowhere at my talk page couple of days ago blaming me and you for removing a whole chunk of information from the article of Backstreet Boys, see this here. Then he went on inserting unsourced release-date into the article of Backstreet Boys, meantime removing highly reliable sources and replacing them with Google search like sites, see this for example. Now he's all over the place accusing me and you being the same person, see this. If this editor keeps on throwing accusations of this kind we should report him. Glad to know you two aren't the same person then. However, I will report you, User: Mad Hatter, for your own poor conduct. Harout72 hasn't used the level of language you have in referring to me. As for you Harout72, verifiability does not include ease of access. In fact, those are news archives and unfortunately you must not possess anywhere near the amount of wealth I do to purchase any article for research. I'm glad you corrected one of the dates(August 12, 1997), but the Canadian date is still incorrect as the album was number one in October 1996. I provided to you information before that your judgment on Billboard Magazine's charts was flawed. I will continue to look for the accurate source containing the September 1996 release date. Radiohead are an English alternative rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. "Per se" image usage on Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds article

What Wiki image usage policy are you referring to in your removal of the images from the Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds article? As far as I can tell, the images are not "staggering" or "bloating" anything, nor are they redundant, but rather are illustrating members and performances in the same manner as any of the GAs on musical groups that I've read. Any particular reason why you keep removing some of these sourced quotes without explanation? Most notably, you keep removing a part where it says they had 4 songs done in February, and that a member of the band claiming that "Here and Now" would be "more organic sounding" and sound like "All the Right Reasons". I see no reason to remove that, it's sourced and important info regarding the new album. Even if there was some sort of problem, you should be explaining why... Yes, I've actually noticed what you're saying, and that's what leads me to be all the more confused. You've edited for a long time, and are part of a music-related Wikiproject. So you obviously know removing sourced information w/o discussion or edit summary is frowned upon. (Through your talk page, I see you were accused of doing similar actions at Velvet Revolver as well.)

I don't think any editor likes to see their edits removed so no need to apologise on that front sir. I put a lot of work getting that article up to some sort of decent standard (this being what is what like before) using articles like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden as examples, and while I don't own it or decide what is included or removed, I felt you were a little bit vague in your reasons for removing content, which is why I reverted and asked for a discussion. You say "very unprofessional" and "crappy fan page" and you may very well be right, but how am I to know if you don't explain why?

You feel strongly about what should and should not be in the article, but really it doesn't benefit article if one person is getting their way (me included) which is the whole reason to discuss first. So, I won't revert the recent changes you made but discuss what you want to change, though really you should have discussed them first (WP:STATUSQUO). The splitting of formation is well done, starting at Randy Castillo's funeral works well. Not a fan of the "Origins and past careers" heading but the only suggestion I have is "Early years" which may or may not work. A large amount of the content in "Search of new singer and hiatus" could be re-written to flow with the rest of the article rather than "In an interview with" every few sentences. Still don't believe that there should be a whole section with solo careers. I think it could still be trimmed (my fault for there being that much info in the first place) and inserted into the new singer and hiatus section. I personally don't see how it hampers the article and I've seen very similar sections, or mentions of other solo projects, on articles of a higher standard (The Beatles, Sex Pistols, Silverchair, The Smashing Pumpkins). I'm assuming these kind of sections inclusion is dependant on who is editing and down to personal opinion.

In regards to the removing of content previously, there is no policy or guideline that I am aware of (maybe you do) that states what length an article should be. Sometimes an article needs to be big just to give the subject adequate coverage. If there is any content that you disagree with, ask me about it and I'll tell you my reasons for adding in the first place. You might agree or disagree but at least then we can move on from there. I really think those changes work well. A large majority of the content you removed was mainly IP contributions, those who felt every interview, rumour and mention of the band's future should be included, so I am quite happy to see it go with some of it re-worded into the article. I don't want to revert your mass deletion without reaching out, but it looks like you deleted almost a third of the page, with only the note "had to cut some things. need more tidying." First, your "appeal to experience" is meaningless. I could simply say that even the most experience editors make mistakes, but since apparently you claim to be infallible, it will probably fall on deaf ears. But, like I said before, the WP:STYLE says it very clear and it would be nice if check it out. "Efforts should therefore be made to improve quality and choice of images or captions in articles rather than favoring their removal". Images are indeed an important part of any article's presentation. Before removing all of them, you might want to check the opinion of other users, because, last I checked, there are probably other users besides you. If you are really as experienced as you claim to be, you know very well that that friendly coexistence is important. And in the spirit of collaboration, making radical changes in featured articles because you think it's what "the article needs", maybe it's not a good idea. If you talk to other editors in the article's talk page, and they all agree that these changes are necessary, then I would gladly abide by the consensus, because it would be a decision made by the comunity of editors. Other than that, it's just your opinion. And your opinion is, by definition, yours. Other people may disagree with your point of view. It happens. Until a consensus is achieved, status quo of the page must be respected. I meant no offense, but that's the way it was always done. Look at other featured articles. They all have images that help to illustrate the article. You still don't agree? I noticed that you had listed Battlestar Galactica amongst the list of Space Opera media. Do you think we should specify the genre of that franchise as Space Opera? Improvement on articles of subgenres

Hi Mad Hatter. If you're still working on improving articles on science fiction subgenres (such as adding most recognizable TV shows, etc). see what you can do to improve biopunk, comedy science fiction and high-fantasy. Those articles could use some additional citations and later maybe you can add TV shows and movies to give better examples. I did all I can to improve those and will be preoccupied for some time. Yes there are many genre and subgenre articles that need serious correcting. I'm going make some serious improvements to them as well. I'm also going to edit the improvements you've made on spy-fi.

Our current target should be biopunk, Space Western, Comedy science fiction, social science fiction and cyberpunk. Some of these might already have significant lists. I will recommend more as we go along. I will also update other science fiction pages in the process. Why don't you start with the ones I mentioned and then I'll follow. Subgenre articles

Hello Mad Hatter, are you still up for filling up the science fiction and fantasy subgenre pages with me? I'm just trying to upload an image for Space Western so it looks complete and we can fill it up. We can start by adding list of novellas, films and TV series on pages that don't have them. I also had the idea to create List of hard science fiction media and list of soft science fiction media but let's do that much later. Right now let's focus on science fiction subgenres, then we can move on to fantasy subgenres, then we can do hard and soft science fiction pages in the ned.

• I have to agree with Mad Hatter that there's no need for it. I think that while it's certainly worth mentioning that there was hostility between RHCP and FNM, along with a few examples, I've long felt that dedicating an entire five paragraph section to said feud is a bit much. The same goes for the mention in the Mr. Bungle article which stretches out to seven paragraphs. I say this as a HUGE fan of both FNM and Mr. Bungle who DESPISES RHCP.   • I DO think there's enough of a significance to the "feud" between RHCP and both of the bands to at least mention it as they were often compared to each other and there was obviously some heat but outside of just mentioningthat and giving a few of the major examples, it doesn't seem encyclopedic at all. RHCP were admittedly the much more commercially successful band and other than mentioning that FNM was considered a similar band, there is no mention of them, or Mr. Bungle, feuding with RHCP on the RHCP article because it's a blip on their radar. Hi, could you please explain some of your edits to the Phish article? That page is a Good article and some of the edits you made were substantial and made without any edit reason or talk page discussion. This includes the removal of an entire section about the band's disbandment, moving around the dates of section headings, removing former members of the group, removing citations, and adding information to the lede that was better off in the text of the article. Hi MadHatter, I get the idea of adding content from the now redirected Music of Phish page, but a lot of that information is either unsourced or redundant to stuff that's on the main Phish page anyway, and thus its including on the main page was avoided on purpose. None of the content on that page was really worth saving, particularly on a page that is now GA status. I agree with pointing the redirect at the section you did, as that section has most of the same stuff except it's sourced. As for Template:Phish, I am unsure about your removal of the LivePhish series articles from there. All of those albums have pages, and most of them charted, satisfying WP:NALBUMS. Space Western, Military science fiction and space opera: yes, I copied several paragraphs from one to the other, because I thought it'd be OK, since the information generally is the same. Then, yeah: it's a death sentence for me. I tend to clear my talk pages. I'm epileptic, I forgot. I also find the comment by Schazjmd as an absolute dagger in heart, since the context of those warnings is totally out of shape; those respective articles of Geoff Tate, Queensryche and those three epic space genres has totally evolved and reevaluated in the other context that Wikipedia and its articles are always moving. This is like a total sword in my aching heart. I didn't expect it from a non-involved user to do this to me. I am deeply hurt and I can only say that Wikipedia is always evolving and articles are always moving like a true darwikinist can say. I forget. I'm epileptic. I forgot I was warned. Truthfully, not to pinpoint to edits, but as far as I can remember, I moved some information from Queensryche to Geoff Tate or/and vice-versa and I was warned. Probably on point, but both articles were a mess back there. I was thanked later by a friendly contributor. As far as I can remember. All the stuff concerning Tate and Queensryche were totally messed up and I really had to move a lot of the stuff concerning him to his own proper article, while working and trying to clean Tate's article. I never delete or "exclusionize" just like that without trying to put the articles on shape as I have done recently on Poison. Administrators can check me out, I was even thanked and braved as contributor by @Binksternet: who said my exclusionist approach trimmed it down and I did a very god job! But yeah: I moved some of the material between Quuensryche and Geoff Tate back then! It was this when I stopped working on it! Close to its current state?! Which is not perfect always! Before that the article was crap like that! But 3 years ago?! I forgot for this tiny argument, but the development of the articles is worthy! I'm epileptic! Really! Sorry! Now's warning? Oh, I love so much "military space opera frontier" and "science fictional space warfare" genre that I wrote most of the material on the articles by myself with trying to find good references, including the examples. Since the 3 sub-genres totally overlap with one another, yeah: I totally wrote and copied here-and-there and probably I'm guilty more of recent, but 2018 and 2019 incidents, it's me: I clean my Talk pages. Well, if I continue to be blocked, I don't know how these concerns that led to it will be addressed. Really. I don't know how else I can contribute. I'm blocked indefinitely, which is incredibly hurtful. My health truly is my priority. I have addressed it in my profile page, that I'm epileptic since childhood and I have episodic seizures, but I've been able to contribute for years and I've been doing it since 2001, when I was unsigned User in computer club culture till 2004, when I signed back there in September 2004, I think when I was 18. I forget it's that important. Listen, I stated it on my User Page: since the seizure I hold scattering in my brain. My vocabulary is damaged and I forget such simple things on Wikipedia and never really while making my contributions paid that much attention to it. I admit I've made mistake this way, but never really paid much attention and I don't know even when it's proper to say: "75% of edits do have edit summaries! Good job!" I never paid attention these 20 years in working and I hope to continue working, although this time I'll be more proactive in this and will give good citations and will contribute with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia saying it's copied from another article. Elan, you keep focusing on the effect of this block upon you that you are not paying attention to the words of the admins who turned down your block requests. You need to assure them that you understand Wikipedia's copyright guidelines. So, don't just state that you won't do anything wrong, you have to demonstrate, through explanation, that you understand copyright and how it works on Wikipedia. If necessary, explain it in the most simple and direct words. Admins reviewing your block request just want to be able to see that mistakes that have happened in the past won't happen again and that's your responsibility to demonstrate that you actually do understand copyright guidelines, not by stating that you do but by explaining them in your own words.
