MiTV Corporation Sdn Bhd is Malaysia's third pay television operator. It was launched in September 2005 after having obtained all the necessary approvals from the censorship board on its broadcast contents. The company initially offered 40 channels from content providers worldwide.

History

MiTV was officially launched on September 5th, 2005 by Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the Manhattan Ballroom in Berjaya Times Square Hotel & Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

One of MiTV's distinguishing traits from Astro, another pay television operator in Malaysia, is that it utilises an internet protocol over UHF-based transmission system. Subscribers require only to install a standard UHF television antenna instead of a satellite dish to receive broadcasts. As a result, some of Astro's major caveats, such as disruption of service under bad weather conditions, do not apply to MiTV users.

MiTV is largely owned by Tan Sri Vincent Tan, the president of the Berjaya Group.

On 31 October 2006, the company announced a corporate and technology restructing exercise. The exercise included suspension of all marketing and new subscription activities. In addition, approximately 66% of the companies workforce was retrenched[1].

Although the service is currently suspended, it is scheduled to re-launch on the third quarter of 2007[2].

MiTV also owns a mobile phone operator called Mi3G.
