==Notification of imminent suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity== |
|||
|
|||
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next several days. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. <!-- Template:Inactive admin -->— <span style="color:#FF9933; font-weight:bold; font-family:monotype;">xaosflux</span> <span style="color:#009933;">Talk</span> 00:39, 24 January 2017 (UTC) |

Welcome back!
Hi there, I thought you were gone for good but it is great to see you back. I hope you will mostly be working on Sri Lanka related articles as many editors back from our day has left, however there are a few new ones coming through. WikiProject Sri Lanka has been pretty quiet but I have been maintaining it solely. Currently I am in the process of assessing each article so that things can be much more organised here. There are still disputes however greatly less so during the last 6 months or so, and people editing on an emotional basis has decreased dramatically. I thought I might give you an update from when you left, hope to see you editing again. :) --Blackknight12 (talk) 06:13, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Blackknight12, good to hear from you again :) I am planning to work on a couple of WikiProject Sri Lanka articles soon, although I don't think I will be as active as I was before since I have very little free time. Let me know if I can help with anything, and keep up the good work! Chamal T•C 06:20, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Welcome back. You might want to look at this.--obi2canibetalk contr 13:32, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks mate... wasn't expecting to come across a problem as soon as I got back. I don't know the background so I think I shouldn't get involved just now, but I will keep an eye on it. Chamal T•C 13:41, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Stone circles of Junapani
It strikes a chord. I thought we were working on some articles a few years back related to parks? Any way, I don't know what is not clear to the second reviewer about the hook in the above article which you had cleared.--Nvvchar. 07:52, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, we certainly did. Nice to hear from you again. I've suggested an alternative hook there, could you please check if it's suitable? Chamal T•C 08:13, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. It should sort out the issue now. Please let me know if want to write some articles related to Sri Lanka.--Nvvchar. 12:14, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hopefully. I don't have a lot of time to research so I'm sticking to the easy stuff for now :) I'll definitely ask when I could do with a bit of help. Chamal T•C 13:13, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

DYK for List of international cricket five-wicket hauls by Chaminda Vaas
On 28 February 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article List of international cricket five-wicket hauls by Chaminda Vaas, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that former Sri Lankan cricketer Chaminda Vaas's eight wickets for 19 runs against Zimbabwe in 2001 are the best bowling figures in One Day International cricket? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/List of international cricket five-wicket hauls by Chaminda Vaas. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Ouya
Hello,
you accidentally deleted my constructive edit on Ouya. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.138.65.215 (talk • contribs)
- You changed "video game console" to "video game scam". Are you sure that was productive? The article adequately mentions the unproven speculation and accusations about it being a scam, but calling it a scam on the first sentence of the article as fact is rather against wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and clear misinformation. Opinion
Hi, I need your opinion here. Zia Khan 05:17, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'd agree that the article is ineligible. DYK rules state that the expansion is calculated from the previous existing prose no matter how bad it is (unless it's a copyvio), which means we'll have to calculate from before you removed the unnecessary/irrelevant text, so it's not a 5x expansion. It's unfortunate, but that's how it works. Chamal T•C 04:08, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Help Desk Rescue
Just to say thanks, I hit save and everything went haywire, I was OMG it's including the image but as I have low-broadband I couldn't wrestle control back from my browser and I was aware that this would fuck up the help page for all trying to access it. Thanks, it took me more than 10 minutes to get back to a WP page that would load (after clearing the cache, doing a Ccleaner, logging out and so on). Exactly the point I was trying to make to the OP though, hi-res images fuck you up. cheers! CaptainScreebo Parley! 13:14, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Coppercholride
Hello Chamal, congrats on the renewal of your admin rights again.
I need some help, User:Coppercholride has been reverting and edit warring with constructive edits that I have made. This trend has also been going on with other users, yet he seems adamant that he is right. I suspect there is no use in me trying to talk and discuss with him as he thinks I am on some kind of mission, and that it took a few days to just convince him to find some sources to back up what he was claiming (which he only did after User:Qwyrxian stepped in) in a previous discussion at Talk:Tamil Muslim#Ethnic origins of Sri Lankan Moors. He has reverted my constructive edits in the following three articles:
And has also engaged in the edit warring of the following articles with other editors:
The user is stirring up the neutrality and validity of these sensitive articles. You probably have the clearest idea of how sensitive these articles are, what is to be done next in order to stop this.--Blackknight12 (talk) 08:43, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Blacknight12, unfortunately I'm a bit busy these couple of weeks in RL, so I don't think I'll be able to look into this thoroughly. I can't say anything about the content dispute; as Qwyrxian says this is a complicated issue and I don't have the time right now to go over all the articles and editors involved. However, the recent edit warring is clearly a problem, and I've left a note on Coppercholride's talk page. Perhaps it would be a good idea to go for dispute resolution if it looks like a suitable consensus can't be reached. It looks like Pharaoh of the Wizards has taken a look at the issue recently; maybe he could offer some better help than me. Chamal T•C 18:06, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 8
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kokis, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sri Lankan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Reverts
You and the other users should check the reference.... and maybe go live in that part of the world before you revert my posts. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.127.54.166 (talk) 14:03, 9 April 2013
- Your edits are in violation of Wikipedia's policies on neutral point of view and biographies on living persons. Also, we don't use Wikipedia articles as sources for another article (see WP:WPNOTRS). Chamal T•C 14:11, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- What I have seen in previous instances, people using other Wikipedia links... also, in the edit page it clearly states that a hyperlink/URL is sufficient attribution. 129.127.54.166 (talk) 14:15, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- 129.127.54.166, do have a look at wp:CIRCULAR and wp:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. - DVdm (talk) 14:18, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- Another point is that adding another page in Wikipedia as a source is not justified buddy. You could ask readers to look up on that page but not add it as a reference. Please do sign your posts with the four ~s, or even better, please do become a registered user of Wikipedia! And for the record we don't need to go live in any part of the world to understand what's not correct! We understand your views we ain't gonna support unless you have a good source... Cheers... The Wikimon (talk) 14:19, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict × 2) Please read the pages I have linked in my previous comment. It doesn't really matter what you have seen other people do in other articles. The issue is here and now, and what you're doing is against Wikipedia policy. You have already been given plenty of warning and chances but if you continue, I'm afraid you will be blocked. DYK for Kokis
On 14 April 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Kokis, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that although Kokis is considered a traditional Sri Lankan dish, its name is believed to be of Dutch origin? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kokis. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

TemplateData is here
Hey Chamal N
I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).
So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.
What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.
The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.
Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:00, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Premadasa.gif)
Thanks for uploading File:Premadasa.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 19:20, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation
December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors
The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page! The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page. – Your drive coordinators: Torchiest and Torchiest, Baffle gab1978 and Baffle gab1978, Jonesey95 and Jonesey95, and The Utahraptor and The Utahraptor To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivityFollowing a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivityFollowing a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:36, 9 September 2016 (UTC) Extended confirmed protectionHello, Chamal N. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy. Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas. In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you. The Signpost: 29 September 2016

Two-Factor Authentication now available for adminsHello, Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 20:33, 12 November 2016 (UTC) A new user right for New Page PatrollersHi Chamal N. A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right. It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best. If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC) ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!Hello, Chamal N. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
