A request for you to revisit the discussion, as another source has been presented there by another user. (Sent per your comment there stating "the reviews cited are run of the mill...") Since another review was presented after your comment, it is fair for you to see the update in the discussion. Northamerica1000(talk) 19:55, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
- The cookbook author noted in the article is significant. I added a redirect for the book title mentioned. The review is a run of the mill one star write up and I don't see how the restaurant is notable. Candleabracadabra (talk) 23:57, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
My point is that Cover Oregon is the marketplace, not just the website. No doubt the site is a miserable failure, but apparently many people are still able to get coverage via Cover Oregon. I added back your citation and tried to clarify that point a bit more. --Esprqii (talk) 20:36, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
- As you've noted in your edit summary, the website is a critical part of the "marketplace". It's covered in the body of the article and needed to be noted in the opneing paragraph. I believe the enrollment numbers have been low and were delayed as a result? The whole article needs work. And I would appreciate it if you clarified anything that you think I haven't gotten right, but removing sourced content entirely as you did at the John Kitzhaber article isn't appropriate. Errors in entry on John P.A. Ioannidis
[edit]Dear Candleabracadabra,
I realize that some information listed on the Wikipedia article about myself is seriously outdated and there are several wrong/biased additions have been made recently. I certainly do not want to be the final judge of edits and corrections myself. I am trying to find an objective independent appraiser/editor. I see that you had carefully edited the Wikipedia entry on me a while ago, and your edits suggest to me that you were very objective, so I am wondering whether you may wish to consider the following and perhaps make changes as you might see fit.
1. The first paragraph says that I am “a professor and chairman at the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology, University of Ioannina School of Medicine as well as adjunct professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and Professor of Medicine and Director of the Stanford Prevention Research Center at Stanford University School of Medicine.” I had chaired the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology at the University of Ioannina School of Medicine until 2010 and then I moved to Stanford. Since then I hold the C.F. Rehnborg Chair in Disease Prevention and I am Professor of Medicine, of Health Research and Policy, and of Statistics at Stanford University. While I do have an adjunct appointment at Tufts since 2002, adjunct appointments are certainly not as important as the main appointment at Stanford and they should not take precedence over the primary Stanford appointment. I also have adjunct professor appointments at Harvard School of Public Health and at Imperial College London. So, I think the sentence should become something like, “the C.F. Renhborg Chair in Disease Professor at Stanford University, where he is Professor of Medicine, of Health Research and Policy, and of Statistics, Director of the Stanford Prevention Research Center, and Director of the Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford (METRICS). Until 2010 he was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology, University of Ioannina School of Medicine and he has held adjunct professor appointments at Tufts (Medicine), Harvard (Epidemiology), and Imperial College London (Epidemiology and Biostatistics).” 2. In this same paragraph, the references 1 and 2 are outdated and they should be replaced since they pertain to an old webpage from Ioannina and an old CV at the time I was moving to Stanford. They should be replaced by (1) my Stanford webpage https://med.stanford.edu/profiles/john-ioannidis and (2) the CV that I have uploaded in the same Stanford webpage (curriculum vitae DOC under “Links” on the right side of the webpage). The webpage and the CV offer full documentation and other web and other sources, if any additional need to be quoted. 3. The majority of my biography seems to cover in an inaccurate and highly biased manner the discussion of a commentary by Goodman and Greenland and a paper by Jager and Leek: “Statisticians Goodman and Greenland agreed that "many medical research findings are less definitive than readers suspect" but found major flaws in Ioannidis's methods, noting that Ioannidis (who did not collaborate with any statisticians on the article) appeared to have confused alpha level with p value and also built the assumption that most findings are likely to be false into his reasoning, thereby making his logic circular. Therefore Goodman and Greenland rejected Ioannidis' claim as unsupportable by the methods used.[6][7] Ioannidis has responded to this critique.[8] …. In an advance access publication on September 25, 2013 Leah R. Jager of the US Naval Academy's Department of Mathematics and Jeffrey T. Leek of John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Department of Biostatistics did a study based on P-values from all 77,430 papers published in 5 major medical journals from 2000 to 2010 and found that "the overall rate of false discoveries among reported results is 14%, contrary to previous claims. We also found that there is not a significant increase in the estimated rate of reported false discovery results over time". The two concluded that "Statistical analysis must allow for false discoveries in order to make claims on the basis of noisy data. But our analysis suggests that the medical literature remains a reliable record of scientific progress" [10].” I think this is an extremely biased and distorted presentation. According to GoogleScholar, there are over 50,000 citations to my work in the scientific literature (http://scholar.google.com/citations?user=A9e6sPYAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao). The 2005 PLoS Medicine paper that is discussed is indeed one of my most-cited ones (although not the most-cited), and it has received over 1,800 citations to-date (i.e. <4% of my total citations), while it is also the most-accessed and downloaded article in the history of the Public Library of Science (approaching 1 million hits as you can check in the metrics page in http://www.plosmedicine.org/article/metrics/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pmed.0020124). Among the thousands of enthusiastic and supportive quotes/comments about that specific PLoS Med paper, the ones by Goodman/Greenland and Jager/Leek are highly atypical. To give some objective numbers, the commentary by Goodman/Greenland has received only 25 citations in GoogleScholar and the paper by Jager/Leek has received just 1 (by Goodman). The Jager/Leek paper actually was published in a journal where Leek is the associate editor (I doubt any major journal would have published this otherwise), and it is seriously flawed, as I have shown in detail an extensive published rebuttal in that same journal commenting on the data and methods of Jager/Leek. (Reference: Why "An estimate of the science-wise false discovery rate and application to the top medical literature" is false. Ioannidis JP. Biostatistics. 2014 Jan;15(1):28-36; discussion 39-45. doi: 10.1093/biostatistics/kxt036. Epub 2013 Sep 25). I think these two sections need to be deleted. 4. If for whatever reason one insists of mentioning the Goodman/Greenland commentary, one should probably delete at a minimum “but found major flaws in Ioannidis's methods, noting that Ioannidis (who did not collaborate with any statisticians on the article) appeared to have confused alpha level with p value and also built the assumption that most findings are likely to be false into his reasoning, thereby making his logic circular.” As I clarified above, I am professor of statistics and I teach statistics courses at Stanford and in Ioannina I was director (among others) of the Biostatistics-Biomathematics courses. The sentence above sounds as if I don’t know the 101 of the profession that I practice and I teach and where I am so heavily cited in the scientific literature. Also at a minimum, if for whatever reason one wants to keep some mention to the Jager/Leek paper, one should add after any description of their paper that “Ioannidis has published a rebuttal that demonstrates that Jager/Leek used wrong data and wrong methods, and made wrong inferences.” The reference is: Why "An estimate of the science-wise false discovery rate and application to the top medical literature" is false. Ioannidis JP. Biostatistics. 2014 Jan;15(1):28-36; discussion 39-45. doi: 10.1093/biostatistics/kxt036. Epub 2013 Sep 25.” 5. If one wants to maintain focus on the PLoS Medicine paper, one should probably add something about the “average”, “mainstream” current interpretation of that paper: the estimate that most published research findings are false has been corroborated by several empirical studies on reproducibility of different research fields (e.g. in epidemiology, clinical research, pre-clinical research and beyond), e.g. you may cite the recent Economist issue in October 2013 (Reference: http://www.economist.com/news/briefing/21588057-scientists-think-science-self-correcting-alarming-degree-it-not-trouble), the recent coverage in New York Times (Reference: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/21/science/new-truths-that-only-one-can-see.html?_r=0), and the recent series of 5 review articles in the Lancet in January 2014 that reviewed the accumulated evidence that unfortunately 85% of research is wasted (Reference: http://www.thelancet.com/series/research). 6. Moreover, if one decides to keep the mention to the Goodman/Greenland and Jager/Leek items, I think it is important to clarify that I am a strong supporter and enthusiast of science and the scientific method, otherwise it sounds as if Goodman/Greenland and Jager/Leek are good crusaders defending science against some monster! E.g. you may add that “Ioannidis has repeatedly stated that scientific investigation is the noblest pursuit (e.g. reference: http://www.plosmedicine.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pmed.0040215), but he stresses that his work aims to identify how to improve the efficiency of the scientific process. (e.g. Reference: http://alumni.stanford.edu/get/page/magazine/article/?article_id=53345)” or something similar. 7. The current section External Links lists the old Ioannina webpage (may be deleted) and the adjunct appointment Tufts page. It should at a minimum show the Stanford webpage (https://med.stanford.edu/profiles/john-ioannidis ). If you also want to list Tufts and Harvard and Imperial (there are webpages of mine for all these three) this is OK, but not as essential, my primary appointment is at Stanford. It seems also essential to list the webpage for Stanford Prevention Research Center: http://prevention.stanford.edu/
I thank you in advance for your attention to these suggestions and I would be grateful if you could find some time to make corrections to this Wikipedia entry as you might think fit.
Kind regards,
John P.A. Ioannidis, MD, DSc C.F. Rehnborg Chair in Disease Prevention Professor of Medicine, of Health Research and Policy, and of Statistics Stanford University 76.126.246.118 (talk) 00:13, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your help with my article about Focus the Producer. They are about to delete it and I worked really hard on it. I wish I could really have more guys like you help me fix it up, or just answer a few questions to help me out. Everybody on here is so quick delete at times though. Either way thanks and if you think of any other way to help please do so. Rico2014 (talk) 23:08, 24 February 2014 (UTC) |
- Thank you for the barnstar. Has the subject of the article been covered substantially in reliable independent sources? If so, those need to be added as references. That is the key to article inclusion on Wikipedia. Candleabracadabra (talk) 00:17, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Buddy Fletcher
[edit]You seem to have an active interest in editing Buddy Fletcher but little interest in properly formatting WP:ICs. Could you take the time to format your citations so that I don't have to undo all the content that you have changed.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:37, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, I think I helped fix the bare reference added by another editor. If you prefer a different format you are most welcome to make those adjustments. We don't remove appropriate cited content because we don't like how the citations are formatted. Candleabracadabra (talk) 12:44, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- I looked at these edits and it seems that you added a lot of bare URLs. Am I seeing something wrong? Anyways, you seem to be interested in the subject. It would be great if you could clean up the bare URLs.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 22:22, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
- Those sources were added by an anon editor earlier in a series of edits here. I fixed some of their work. Your help is most welcome. My recollection is that I came across this Buddy Fletcher while looking into a diffferent one (mayor of Lakeland or some such?). I have no particular interest in the article other than it was promotional and a disruptive admin was blocking corrections so I intervened. Candleabracadabra (talk) 00:36, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- I understand that any article is a work in process that everyone is free to edit. I even created the page and the top three edit counts remain:

However, I have had minimal involvement in the article for the last few years. I am responsible for so many articles that when there is a lot of interest in maintaining one, I usually let the public handle it. Hash oil
[edit]I have no idea, I was just reading a news article about it, but the hash oil article talks about crystallisation, mentions butane as part of the process, and lists "wax" as a synonym. Google Images suggest that hash oil can look exactly like the picture in your source, and there are plenty of news sources talking about hash oil in Colorado this month. --McGeddon (talk) 14:08, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- You are correct, I see now that wax is listed as one of the names for hash oil. I didn't see that when I skimmed the article before and the images looked very different. But I'm not absolutely sure on the issue. The news sources don't discuss it in the context of hash oil. Can we get wider input? Candleabracadabra (talk) 14:14, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- It looks like you've just found a couple of sources that happen to be insular enough (by only quoting direct interviews) to avoid easy comparison to other news outlets' takes on the same sources. Although the Yahoo source links to the X-Cup event ("held in broad daylight in Denver, to see who can make the most potent batch of the same drug upon which DEA agents are cracking down in California"), the website for which describes itself as a competition to make "the best BHO wax/shatter/budder/solvent", where BHO is explained elsewhere on its site as an abbreviation for "butane hash oil".
- Maybe double-check at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cannabis if you still have doubts? --McGeddon (talk) 14:30, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- I think you were right. I redirected. Take care and thanks for your courtesy. Candleabracadabra (talk) 02:47, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Winter Park History Museum
[edit]Hi, thank you for creating the page for the Winter Park History Museum. I just wondered why you redirected the article to Winter Park Historical Museum, since the official name is "History Museum". In my opinion, the official name should be the one to use for the article, as it is also listed in the text. Thank you. Jllm06 (talk) 19:03, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- A few of the museums I came across seemed to go by more than one name. In this case, I think I went with the name used in the image. If that's what they call it in their signage I thought it was reasonable (and consistent) to go with that title, but if you think there is a well established official name, feel free to change it to that and perhaps consider adding an "also known as" type clarification? Speedy deletion nomination of La Teresita
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on La Teresita, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. reddogsix (talk) 03:21, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

- Thank you for restoring and taking to an AfD. The low price and large price assertion was in several sources, that's why I included it. It appears to be the second most famous Cuban restaurant in Tampa. It's covered in books and numerous articles including national publications covering the whole country. It always makes me laugh that some thing get deleted for "lacking an assertion of notability" while if you include the reasons something is significant it gets speedied for being promotional. Everything in the article is backed up by good sourcing and it just needs to be expanded. The coverage is very substantial and the business group's existence over 40 years as a center of Cuban cuisine in the community puts it well above the notability threshold. Whether others will see it that way who knows. If it was in NYC it would be a no brainer, but there is a great deal of regional bias on Wikipedia. If you want to see promotional article look at User:Amsterdad's contributions. A bunch of spam articles with bad and misleading sourcing. Take care. The article Chocolate covered cherry has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I am afraid this fails WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:44, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- I would consider redirecting to Cordial (candy) but not all chocolate covered cherries are cordials. And there is a strong precedent for chocolate-covered articles, see chocolate-covered strawberry, chocolate-covered raisin etc. A combined chocolate-covered fruit article might also be a possibility. Not sure. but I don't think deletion is appropriate. Candleabracadabra (talk) 11:47, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

COI stuff
[edit]Hi Candle. I was wondering if (generally speaking) you had any interest in collaborating on articles where I have a COI from time-to-time beyond just the Yelp page. Some editors don't like it (working for free for someone who is paid and all that) and I figure it's a matter of personal choice. Typically it is not as much drama/debate as the Yelp page. (Triumph International is an example of a recent project that was handled in a more routine manner)
It is actually very hard to find editors that will focus on the content where a COI is disclosed. Some want to encourage disclosure so they will make COI edits by proxy as a way of showing their support for the editor's conduct. Others are overly defensive or will even make poor edits to thwart the COI editor. And others just aren't bold enough in article-space for me to make improvements in a Bright Line(ish) fashion. And the volume of my COI works are too large a burden to place on just a hand-full of editors I already know handle my COI well. User:Sphilbrick has mentioned he feels it takes a veteran editor to do it right and I'm increasingly coming over to his point-of-view, seeing as how different my COI RfCs result than identical RfCs where no COI is disclosed.
Anyways, any interest in chipping in from time to time? I would take no offense if you just don't want to. CorporateM (Talk) 16:12, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- I usually try to help anyone who asks. I am generally interested in business and companies. Not sure about any particular company, but I will certainly try to take a look if you drop me a heads up. As far as Yelp, well, perhaps the less said about that editing environment the better. :) Take care. Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:37, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- So maybe I'll take a shot in the dark and see if you have any interest in the Invisalign article? Some elements of this article will be more medical than business, but some of it is the usual corporate history stuff (founded, growth, lawsuits, product development). I'm excited about it because, while it will take a long time to get it there, once it is GA, I think it will be the first GA-ranked WikiProject Medicine article about a product/company and certainly the first COI-produced GA on a medical topic. I've only done the Treatment Process section so far and that Request Edit is still pending, but I've got more in the queue. CorporateM (Talk) 03:48, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Tim Byrd (author)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

[edit]Hello. I noticed that you created an unsourced page at Ortona, Florida. According to the USGS, there are two unincorporated communities in Florida by that name, one in Glades County (295516) and one in Volusia County (288253). Which one is it? • Gene93k (talk) 13:51, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Cocoanut candy
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Cocoanut candy. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Coconut_candy. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Coconut_candy – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. -G.A.WILMBROKE [ USER / ALT / TALK / CONTRIBS ] 00:33, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

- He was a major figure in the arts scene of Latin America. As a caricaturist, as a photographer and as an art gallery owner. He hosted the first showing of Fernando Botero's art work. He was exiled from Mexico over a dispute with a muralist. He's just a very cool dude who's gotten lots and lots of coverage including entire books about him. I'm not really sure what more he could have done. He photographed many of the most famous artsists of that era including Frida Kahlo and others. His artwork is held in major museums. Here's one of many articles about him. Candleabracadabra (talk) 01:34, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

- I've removed the "speedy deletion" template but the article as written is arguably still A7-eligible. I removed the template based on what you wrote here. Please incorporate more reliable, independent sources to firmly demonstrate that this person meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Until this is done, the article is at high risk of being deleted through either the proposed deletion or articles for deletion process. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 03:26, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Housekeeping
[edit]Hi Candle. I discussed some housekeeping items with User:Crisco 1492 here and have submitted the corresponding Request Edits.[1][2]. They have to do with moving an article where the company changed their name slightly and making a clearer distinction between two companies that both have Purina in the name. It's a very boring, mundane task to ask of you and it may even be a borderline non-controversial edit, but per WP:COI, I need to ask someone else to make the edits and I was wondering if you had a moment to chip-in. CorporateM (Talk) 17:49, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Candle. I noticed you made the disambiguation page and clarified the Purina Mills article a bit. Thanks for that! I went ahead and de-actived the Request Edit. For the rename of "Code 42 software" to "Code42" I have moved the article boldly after another editor verified that it was a trivial clerical edit that I should do myself. Thanks for chipping in! The article Clear toy candy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No explanation of what clear toy candy is or why it is significant or notable
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. IagoQnsi 01:51, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks for the offer. Certainly Food trucks are notable and I think the subject of Food trucks in New York City is notable, and other commenters seemed to agree. I think there were the beginnings of an article after some edits were made to the directory style List of food trucks in New York City article. Let me think on it. Take care. - No worries, they way you were taking it was in the right direction. I do agree that FTiNYC is a notable concept, although without all the listings. It should also include something of a history section (if sourcing is available). --kelapstick(bainuu) 16:49, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Gunster (law firm)
[edit]Hello Candleabracadabra,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Gunster (law firm) for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. KaraokeMac (talk) 21:15, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
- I addressed it a bit on the talkpage. For one thing it's a fairly large firm (top 250 in the country and top 10 in Florida). In terms of influence it has had George Lemieux as a figurehead. It has some other notable figures involved and is involved in some fairly notable cases. It's not the biggest or the most notable firm but it's been covered substantially for the breath and reach of its activities. I haven't had a chance to delve in, but there have also been some issues about influence (I included a link on the talk page). I think it's notable but don't object to a hearing at Articles for Deletion. I suspect it's one of those subject that people might want to know more about. I was curious about it so I looked it up and there was no article on it. So I created it. They advertise a lot in Florida Trend. I like to keep up with stuff and to know what's going on. Have a nice weekend. Candleabracadabra (talk) 02:20, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Oh and I did look into the notability issue a bit and most of the top Florida law firms already have articles as do all those listed in the top 100 in the U.S. It's on the margins of this level, but it's pretty big and has grown quite a bit in recent years. I think it serves our readers to be able to know what the firm is done, where it's based, it's history, and its key players. I'm confident it will continue to be in the news as a leading player in a growing state. Candleabracadabra (talk) 02:22, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- This may be worth following up as a general issue. You will notice I said "according to most afd decisions" not "I think it isn't notable". (As an admin of course I need to work according to whatever is the standard, no matter what I think of it) I have ever since I came here supported quantitative notability standards, and to a limited extent have been successful in some fields. I would not necessarily be adverse to including top __ in US as a standard here. (the problem is saying top 100 in any country, or anything more than top 1 in any state, due to the different sizes.) This would permit us to write articles for these firms in advance of the promotional editors, which would be much more satisfactory than the ones we do get. (the article was marked as promotional under the assumption that all law firm articles were, and that's true enough for many of the articles we do have, & I have been on a bit of a campaign to remove the worst of them). I'm pinging Bearian, whom I often rely on in this area. DGG ( talk ) 08:30, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'd !vote to keep it at WP:AfD. It meets or comes to close to meeting my standards - it's a very large, 90-year-old law firm. Several members of the firm have been notable in their own right, as judges, bar leaders, experts in their fields, etc. Bearian (talk) 14:13, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

"Bias"
[edit]Kindly don't abuse important words. You sound like one of those conservatives who thinks Einstein's theory of relativity is bogus because Florida is flat. Please read WP:NOTGALLERY, which says nothing on building in a day or more--and speaking of "text", you're welcome. Drmies (talk) 17:46, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- When you include only a photo of a particular country's version of something that biases the article. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia policy. I did read the notgallery page and it supports my position. What it doesn't have is anything remotely supporting your arguments. Listen, it's a big encyclopedia, so I'd appreciate it if you and your dogs went elsewhere. I don't enjoy being hounded by goons. Candleabracadabra (talk) 18:00, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Drmies, I think the guideline you were looking for was WP:GALLERY. --kelapstick(bainuu) 18:28, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Probably so, Kelapstick. Candleabracabra, I think I got this one right: WP:NPA. Besides, Kelapstick is not a dog. And that choosing one picture constitutes bias--I gotta hand it to you, very creative! Drmies (talk) 18:43, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Systemic bias. And I don't appreciate your effort to drag Kelapstick into the confrontation. He has been nothing but helpful and courteous. This is a sleazy approach even for you Drmies, and that's saying something. Now piss off. You are not welcome here. Candleabracadabra (talk) 18:48, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Candleabracadabra, you might want to back it off just a notch, I've seen enough personal attacks and rude remarks for one paragraph. I'm one of the worst about putting in too many pictures, and thankfully there are plenty of people to prune after I create an article, but even I wouldn't assault an article on a food with so many images. Then have the balls to rationalize it by saying that anyone that disagrees with me is being biased. Cajones grande, amigo. In this case, I don't buy it. It isn't about a car, where you need multiple angles, or an art fair, where you need to show plenty of representative works. It's fried sweet 'taters. You probably need to trim that down to just a few unless you have enough text to keep them parked on the right side. Otherwise, that is just excessive for the article. You can start an RFC or discussion, or whatever, but I'm telling you, that is what the outcome will be when everyone chimes in. Best to just take it with grace. Dennis Brown | 2¢ | WER 00:55, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- The policies on systemic bias are pretty clear Dennis. Including only an American example of fried sweet potatoes is inappropriate. Period. I don't know what else to tell you. There are a few pics I'd be willing to trim, but policy is clear that we don't edit solely based on our origin or background. As far as the personal attacks go, it's pretty shitty that Drmies would launch a bunch against me including in his first post above on my page while his buddies come after me, and then when I engage in mild retaliation he wants to make a federal case out of it. That's BALLS!!! I'm sorry if he's unhappy or whatever, but take it elsewhere. And You're better than this Dennis. Bullying isn't okay. I'm sorry if Drmies wasn't aware of the systemic bias policies here but the policies apply to him as well as the rest of us even if he is an administrator. Do you have something against people who disagree simply going their separate ways? I posted a comment here on his latest article creation, an absolute piece of crap, and backed off it (wiping it out). Why can't you and your crew do the same? Sometimes the truth hurts. Drmies should stop acting in an arrogant, bullying, childish manner. Just the other day his "bwahahahahah I'm going to delete this article on comma at a time" comment was noted on the ANI board but he's learned nothing from it. You won't find me hounding other editors or pursuing conflicts the way he and his Dutch amigos do. It's wrong. And I don't want to discuss it with you further. Enough Dutch treats for one day. Bye bye. Candleabracadabra (talk) 01:16, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- Drmies, I think the guideline you were looking for was WP:GALLERY. --kelapstick(bainuu) 18:28, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
I'm more than a little familiar with WP:BIAS. I've been here many, many years, so I'm also familiar with the most common outcomes here. Drmies is as well. For starters, we know that WP:BIAS is an essay, not a policy or guideline. Use that at a discussion, you will only hear snickers. I think it is a good essay, but it has zero effect in policy and is not considered as a rationale for any content discussion, I close those very discussions regularly, trust me, those arguments are ignored in the final count. I never said or thought "one" so you assumed wrong, however, 3 seems more than enough for an article that size. Or you can drag it to DRN, but again, WP:BIAS won't be considered as a valid rationale; it can't be, it isn't policy. The best bet is to trim it down to a more reasonable size, one that represents a few countries, say a lead a two more. As it stands, it doesn't meet the criteria for use in WP:GALLERY, which is a policy. Dennis Brown | 2¢ | WER 01:39, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- "Images are typically interspersed individually throughout an article near the relevant text (see WP:MOSIMAGES). However, the use of a gallery section may be appropriate in some Wikipedia articles if a collection of images can illustrate aspects of a subject that cannot be easily or adequately described by text or individual images. The images in the gallery collectively must have encyclopedic value and add to the reader's understanding of the subject. Images in a gallery should be suitably captioned to explain their relevance both to the article subject and to the theme of the gallery."
- But again, I don't know why you're attempting to beat this horse. Let's move on. If you want to fix something that's badly messed up by all means take a look at Drmies latest monstrosity. As far as being aware of policies it's clear from recent discussions that your Dutch buddy hasn't a clue. The proof is in the pudding. Again, I do not wish to discuss these issues further. I've had quite enough. Candleabracadabra (talk) 01:47, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'm just trying to find a compromise so I don't have to drag it to DRN and get it stripped down either further. Flatly, it is outside of the acceptable uses of galleries. I have plenty to fix and work on, and when I run across other problems, like this, I fix them as well. Just because you don't want to budge from your opinions, that doesn't mean you get things your way. Dennis Brown | 2¢ | WER 01:55, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- You don't have to drag anything anywhere. Just leave it the fuck alone. It's enough already. Candleabracadabra (talk) 01:57, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

Degree mills
[edit]Hi, Candleabracadabra. I'm happy to welcome you to the cadre of editors who are paying attention to the topic that is somewhat euphemistically described as "unaccredited educational institutions." Articles about this topic are subject to a periodic editing campaigns to either whitewash or "expose" the article topic, so we need a small army of editors to watch them and make sure that the articles remain within policy. Also, because new degree sellers are created almost daily, it takes a small army to keep the articles up to date. I welcome you as a new recruit to the small army!
At the same time that I welcome you, I exhort you not to use the terms "degree mill", "diploma mill", or "accreditation mill" to describe a particular institution unless you are quoting or paraphrasing somebody who applied that label, who can be specifically identified, with a citation to a published reliable source. These terms are widely recognized, but they actually lack objectively defined meanings, so use of these terms does not effectively communicate the problems with a particular institution. Also, there is actually a history of diploma-mill operators successfully using defamation lawsuits to shut down government regulatory agencies in the United States -- or at least constrain their future activities -- because the agencies used these terms to describe their institutions.
My exhortation is based on my experience. I am a veteran of a lot of editing on the general topic of "unaccredited higher education institutions," including "degree mills." In case you don't believe me, my edit count data will help confirm my history for you. My lists of my 10 most-edited articles and talk pages include the topics List of unaccredited institutions of higher education, List of unrecognized higher education accreditation organizations, Warren National University, Bircham International University, and Warnborough College. Other related articles that I've edited (usually repeatedly), include (this is just a sample): diploma mill, accreditation mill, University Degree Program, Columbia State University, Breyer State University, Washington International University, Rutherford University, Isles International University, University of Atlanta, Accrediting Commission International, Oregon Office of Degree Authorization, Ronald Pellar, Maxine Asher, and List of animals with fraudulent diplomas. In order to defend articles like these, editors have learned that it's particularly important to have solid sourcing for statements, and to avoid terms like "diploma mill" except in the context of an attributed quoted statement. --Orlady (talk) 23:39, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. In the case of American University of London the issue is discussed extensively in the body but was not represented anywhere in the opening paragraphs. As I noted in my edit summary, I'm flexible on the phrasing (although the term degree mill is used in the sources and discussed/ explained etc. in the body of the article. Futhermore, I wrote "According to media accounts," so it was not stated as a fact. As long as the widely reported assertions in media about the school are noted up front I don't really care how it is written. And of course if someone is calling for a citation in the opening paragraph of what's already covered in the body I have no objection to duplicating the existing citations. A degree mill is a degree mill is a degree mill, but if we want to call the way it's described something else or make up a new word for it I suppose we can do as we please, but I don't think that's a terribly encyclopedic approach. As noted in the article on degree mills, a degree mill is where you buy your diploma. That's what's been asserted in multiple reliable sources including using the exact words "degree mill". I think it's a very bad approach to avoid calling things as they are described in reliable independent sources, many people are misled and taken advantage of as a result of misinformation on Wikipeida, but I am only one editor here. Candleabracadabra (talk) 23:49, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry for my haste in my last edit at AUOL. I think your current wording of the lead is probably OK.
- If you study the various online WP:RS resources that advise consumers about avoiding degree mills, you will find that they typically describe the attributes of a degree mill, but if they name examples of "degree mills", the only named examples were closed down during legal actions that resulted in fraud convictions. That's largely because of defamation lawsuits. Ironically, it's not at all clear that these terms represent defamation. As I indicated, there's no objective definition of "diploma/degree mill"; it doesn't necessarily mean "sells diplomas for no work" -- I've seen the term used to describe all for-profit schools, all distance-education universities, and even all U.S. teacher-education programs. Regardless of what it means, I don't think it's worth our while to fight for use of this term here. I've had my time and energy wasted by megabyte-length "discussions" about statements much like those statements at AUOL (e.g., arguing about whether the statements are WP:UNDUE) -- and several Wikipedians have been outed and subjected to various forms of real-life harassment for their work on these articles, presumably because negative information in Wikipedia reduces the otherwise-huge profitability of a diploma mill. You will notice, however, that articles like Diploma mill and Accreditation mill are "See also" links in a lot of articles about schools that might be considered degree mills. A "see also" listing doesn't label the school as a degree mill, but merely indicates that a reader might find some additional relevant information in the other article. --Orlady (talk) 01:37, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. I'm not sure if the dog example belongs in the opening paragraphs (even though I put it there) I just want to make sure we aren't weaselly about describing the school accurately and fairly according to the best sources we have. Take care and have fun. Sorry if I'm a bit stubborn or difficult today, it hasn't been one of the more pleasant days of editing for me. But I appreciate your efforts to work out some sort of reasonable accomodation of my concerns and yours. Take care and have fun. Candleabracadabra (talk) 01:43, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- I endorse Orlady's judgment on degree mills, you can rely on Orlady's experience. You will get a lot of push-back on some articles, one at least has been the subject of literally years of attempts to use Wikipedia to gloss over its questionable past and lack of accreditation. - At least you are using the available venues rather than resorting to out of process abusive actions of admin tools along with dishonest edit summaries and misrepresentations. Still, I think it's troubling that you are trying obliterate perfectly legitimate article work I based on reliable sources. Perhaps it has something to do with your delusions of my being part of sort of conspiracy? I suggest you take a deep breath and look into the subjects and sources yourself. It's prefectly legitimate subject matter covered substantially in reliable sources, there are exisitng Wikipedia articles about various aspects, and I can't think of any policy based reason (or any other reason) why I shouldn't be able to work on the subject matter in my userspace. I am concerned that you are acting in a manner that comes across as paranoid delusional. Candleabracadabra (talk) 17:12, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

- Acoustic harassment is absolutely not pseudoscience nor are sonic weapons. They exist. And of course they are also areas of active research. Also, you seem to be engaged in very paranoid and delusional behavior, conjuring up allegations of my being part of some off-wiki collusion effort. Unless you have some basis for these absurd statements I suggest you keep them to yourself. Otherwise you come of as a bit of a deranged conspiracy theorist. As we are here to work on a fact based encyclopedia, I think it's best not to act crazed. Refraining from making wild claims with no basis in reality will also make the editing environment more collegial for your fellow editors. Candleabracadabra (talk) 16:55, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- "V2K" is a\ fictional construct. Whether its claimed victims are mentally ill or not is debated. Acoustic harassment, if it exists at all, might justly describe the use of rock music in seiges, but the whole voice to skull thing is a crock. Guy (Help!) 21:52, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- As I noted at the miscellany for deletion discussion of the article I am working on in my userpage, V2K should be redirected to the article where it's covered. I think I saw that you did that, which is great. The acoustic weapon aspects should be merged with the article sonic weapon that I found. And the acoustic harassment page should be about the technologies used mostly for marine and avian species with note of the related human aspects. Since V2K is covered and redirected elsewhere it shouldn't be mentioned at all in that article and certainly not as a bolded subject.
- The main problem was that V2K was redirected (and kept getting redirected) to the wrong article (electronic harassment) that covers something rather unrelated. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to work through the editing process (even in my own userspace!!!) and have been met with lots of assumptions of bad faith.
- Obviously there are acoustic/ sonic weapons as well as various other technologies (Microwave auditory effect and Plasma Acoustic Shield System) for example that are being studied or are already in use.
- I am always happy to make changes and adjustments as I did when the title v2k was questioned. I tried to be quite open about my efforts to cover the subject matter suitably and at the proper title (for instance if you search for voice to skull you will find most of the results are hyphenated which is why I created the article that way. Yet despite policies to the contrary (I think AGF is even a pillar) I've been met with all kinds of spurrious attacks.
- My efforts have ultimately resulted in some substantial improvements being made, but I don't appreciate all the personal attacks, insinuations, false allegations, and bullying I've been subjected to and its made the process more difficult, complicated, time consuming and unpleasant.
- I posted to an administrative noticeboard so we could have an open discussion of the issues and instead Dennis Brown (who was involved) speedily deleted the subject entirely with a completely dishonest edit summary claiming the material was recreated when in fact it was entirely new. I'm sorry he abused his tools and that so much drama was caused as a result. It's always better to work through the editing process according to our standard protocols and there was no reason for his actions or your personal attacks against me. Hopefully I can go back to improving the encyclopedia without being subjected to any more attacks. Constructive criticism, suggestions, and questions about my content work are always welcome and I am happy to address issues as they arise. Hopefully we can all put this ugly chapter behind us. If acoustic harassment is still protected it should be unprotected so I can move the article there once I've worked it up properly (according the plans I've layed out above) using the many reliable sources discussing the subject. And the miscellany for deletion should also be closed. There is no basis for blocking my ability to work on an article in my userspace. Candleabracadabra (talk) 23:49, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Cawy Bottling Company. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. - I did resolve the templates. I included substantial coverage in reliable independent sources. Nuisance templates are not helpful to readers or editors. If you dispute a particular fact or contest some part of the content please be specific and I'll be happy to do my best to help resolve your concerns. Candleabracadabra (talk) 16:59, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
The article Cawy Bottling Company has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Not convinced this organization has the notability to maintain an article, sources about the subject have not been found.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thargor Orlando (talk) 16:12, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- It's covered in the book source I included, I also added an article about the company from the Miami Times to the further reading section. The company is a major manufacturer of soda beverages that are popular in the Cuban American community and among other aficianados. Several of their products have existing Wikipedia articles. You are welcome to add additional sources if you think that would be helpful, the coverage is out there. If for some reason you still don't think it's notable, you are welcome to take it to an Articles for Deletion discussion. Candleabracadabra (talk) 17:01, 14 April 2014 (UTC)
- Another editor deprodded. I removed the notability tag, but as noted above, you are welcome to initiate an AfD discussion if you so desire. There was another tag on the page, but the content is largely cited. If there is a particular aspect or detail that you dispute please let me know or use a targeted citation needed tag so I can try to resolve any concerns you have. Thanks. Three Twins
[edit]You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
The article Three Twins has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, individual animal, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.
Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. A business journal and an alumni magazine reference don't make this business notable, see WP:CORP. dedicated trackes
[edit]As far as I remember, the FRA requires dedicated tracks for high-speed rail beyond 150 mph. Perhaps check High-speed_rail#United_States. There is no such thing in the USA today .... but it will be the case for the CaHSR. Of course the CaHSR will use shared tracks in urban areas but that's the same for European high-speed rail - the trains won't run at high-speed on those sections anyway. Guidod (talk) 18:55, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- I suggest posting your position to the article talk page. I think we need to stick with the facts and be very careful to avoid speculation or promotion. Candleabracadabra (talk) 19:01, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- There's no speculation about it, it's just to get the terms right ... exclusive right of way, dedicated tracks, grade-separated, whatever ... as a native speaker you do have a much better chance to ensure it's being put correctly in the article. ... it would be nice of you to follow the reference as given in High-speed_rail#United_States that shows there is such a requirement, whatever it is named. - That looks very good! Nice job. Is it possible to add a column for where the food trucks are located? I mean I know they move around, but I think the city they are based in is usually pretty fixed? You certainly do a lot of terrific work Northamerica1000. I hope you're enjoy life. Candleabracadabra (talk) 02:29, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- An easy way to add locations is to add an mdash (as opposed to a hyphen) after the entry and then the location. Another way is to just add it in parentheses. The latter may be easier to read for Wikipedia's readers. Feel free to update the article if you're interested. See below for an example. NorthAmerica1000 02:53, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey again
[edit]Hi,
Thanks for being so helpful, if you need some help with article creation let me know! I was also hoping if you could take a look at User:Valoem/UFO sightings in outer space. I know this is not your area of expertise, but hoping to DRV this article very soon, I've address the GNG issues and I hope for some clean up/citations help. Thanks! Valoem talk contrib 23:10, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
- That kind of topping isn't very popular here unfortunately. The first thing I would do is change the title to Unidentified flying object sightings or Unidentified fly object sightings in space. The acronym UFO has become synonymous with alien spacecraft. I also think it's usually best to avoid acronyms until they are introduced. From what I can see it looks like you've already done a lot of work on it? Who knows what the Wiki Gods will conclude on it, but it certainly seems like a reasonable subject to me. I can't imagine an article listing notable sightings wouldn't be included. It seems weird to me that there isn't an article on this subject already? I will check on it when I have a chance and see if I can be of any use. Take care. Oh and I should note that I was impressed with your patience in dealing with various issues that arose. You have a good way about you and a great demeanor. Candleabracadabra (talk) 00:37, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

BLP
[edit]Please be cautious about BLP violations. You've added false information to Samuel Estreicher twice now. This is not acceptable. Candleabracadabra (talk) 20:34, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- The information is public record in the reference that you keep deleting. You seem to be mistaken, or you are being deliberately obtuse, and sending me threatening messages in bad faith. Wikidea 22:05, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Both the edits you made are not supported by the cite and appear to be patently false. Please don't add false information to BLPs. A campaign donation from 2008 sourced only to a public record of the donation itself also does not belong in the opening paragraphs. No need to resort to attacking me when you were in the wrong. You messed up. I pointed out where you were wrong. Please don't do it again. Candleabracadabra (talk) 22:11, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
Ambulantes
[edit]This article should not exist separately from hawker (trade). Ambulante is not an English word, and simply means street vendors ie hawkers. Therefore, this information should be consolidated back into the hawkers article (under a Latin America section) and this separate entry deleted. It is against Wikipedia policy to have separate articles for the same thing. Keizers (talk) 22:12, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- Should it be merged to hawker (trade) or street vendor? Candleabracadabra (talk) 22:18, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

I will not escalate to a change war, however, I would like to make my point understood.
I understand your point about the fact that there may be residents of Odessa who are buried in Keystone. However, since the precedent line about there being many families who lived there for generations is unsourced, and essentially true of every city, stating that they are buried in Keystone (also unsourced) is irrelevant.
Also, your reason is that the people who established it are buried it is not mentioned in the existing text.
What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ufomonster (talk • contribs) 15:37, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- First of all I find your insistence that the article ONLY cover the technically defined CDP disruptive. This is not the only way Odessa is used and it's damaging to our readers to not make that clear. When they are looking up Odessa Florida you've made it so that the only find out about one aspect of it. Secondly, you'[ve now taken this so far that you won't even include content related to the narrowly defined definition you are imposing on the subject. This insistence on such a narrow definition is inappropriate, inconsistent with reality, and it hurts the encyclopedia whose readers want to learn about the area and its history. If you want such a restrictive article create it at Odessa Census Designated Place and leave the article on Odessa to actually cover the area as it is defined according to various measures. But I thank you for your note. Candleabracadabra (talk) 15:43, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
I believe you misunderstand my intention, which is that of good will. I have assumed good will on your part, and I expect the same. In that spirit, the page exists as a CDP, as the map, and main discription demonstrate, none of that did I write. I do agree that usage of "odessa" is broad, and covers parts of other CDPs. I believe it's in the readers' best interest to have that clarified and not to continue the ambiguity. On a second level, even if we agree that we should include Keystone in Odessa's article, the lines should be removed due to the fact that they are unsourced, and have been so for years. Furthermore, the information is not very meaningful at it's core.
I ask you to be rigorously honest and ask if those lines are helpful to the page. In good faith, I think you will see they are not.
Any thoughts?
- I don't see anything in the article (certainly not in its introduction/lead) noting that Odessa refers to a wider area when not dealing specifically with the CDP boundaries. This makes the article incomplete and problematic.
- As far as where the area's founders are buried, yes I think it's worth including. If a better citation is needed you could certainly ask for one or seek one out yourself.
- As per the CDP article "The boundaries of a CDP have no legal status. Thus, they may not always correspond with the local understanding of the area or community with the same name." Candleabracadabra (talk) 16:05, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
I acknowledge and accept your quote of the boundaries of the CDP not corresponding with the local understanding. For that reason I will concede that point. However, I have removed the lines and an addition one for missing citations. Citations were asked for in 2009 and have not since been added, leading me to think it was simply someone's personal view that was input. Furthermore, I am not particularly driven to seek out citations for those lines, since it is my opinion that they are not meaningful enough to include at their core. However, if propery sourced, I would agree they're not harmful and it would be reasonable to keep them. Ufomonster (talk) 16:21, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Source discussing borders and development of Odessa, Florida here. Candleabracadabra (talk) 16:28, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
A cursory review of that article did not reveal the location of the deceased establishing families' burial sites. It cannot be used to source the claim that they are buried at the cemetery at Keystone Methodist Tampa Church.Ufomonster (talk) 16:49, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Delta Ratio
[edit]Hello, you added the {{hoax}} tag to Delta Ratio without explaining why. I am also a bit perplexed as to why you would tag it as a hoax while it was in AfC before moving it into article space. Tagging an article as a potential hoax is a serious accusation that should not be done as a drive-by action. Please explain why you tagged the article as a hoax on the article talk page, or consider removing the tag. The {{disputed}} tag is also available for articles which are not completely false but have serious factual accuracy issues, but that tag should also be explained on the talk page or at least in an edit summary. —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:06, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- I tagged it as a hoax because I couldn't tell if it was legitimate or not, and I wanted it to be looked into. Presumably, it will be determined that it is not a hoax and the tag will be removed, or if it is a hoax it can be deleted or cleaned up. I don't see anything to get defensive over. Has the subject been covered substantially in any reliable independent sources? I think the real problem the article faces is over notability. Candleabracadabra (talk) 17:13, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- I removed the hoax tag as a quick Google search indicates this is not a complete hoax. You're right that there is a notability issue here. I won't address that, as I only came across this article in a routine patrol of articles tagged as hoaxes. —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:24, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. I don't think it's a hoax either. I just wanted to be sure and to have someone else to take a look. Thanks. Candleabracadabra (talk) 17:33, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

technical issue with your AfC moves
[edit]Hi there, Candleabracadabra, how are you doing your AfC reviewing? Several articles you've recently reviewed have wound up in Category:Pending AfC submissions in article space, and still have some AfC templates that don't belong in mainspace. Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 17:53, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Articles for creation
[edit]I notices you moved Draft:Primus P. Mason into the main encyclopedia. This page was submitted with a request that it be reviewed by Articles for Creation WikiProjects.
You may want to turn on the "Yet Another Helper Script" "gadget" in your preferences. I'm not sure if this version of the script works in the "Draft:" namespace or not, but I think the beta version does. If you want to play with the beta version, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Helper script#Beta version. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:38, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I moved it to mainspace. I reviewed it and thought it was marginally notable biographical subject. Is there an issue? Can't you review it in Mainspace? I don't use a lot of gadgets but I appreciate the suggestions. Please let me know if there's something I need to do or move the article back if there's a problem. Are you saying there was a specific request for a review? Was my review inadequate? Not clear on the issue you're raising I guess. But I'm happy to help resolve the issue if there's a problem. Candleabracadabra (talk) 20:02, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- There was no issue with your call to move this article to the main encyclopedia, but there was a bit of technical work that needed to be done afterwards. I try to encourage people who will be accepting AFC submissions to use the script so that the technical details of the submission, including talk page templates, converting category-links to actual categories, removing AFC templates, filling in Persondata, Defaultsort, and Listas, and other chores are done automatically and consistently. Heck, I probably missed some of the technical work on Primus P. Mason. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:26, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Living people, reflinks
[edit]When moving a page about a living person into the main encyclopedia, it is very important to add [[Category:Living people]] to the bottom and to add {{WPBiography|living=yes}} or some similar template to the top of the talk page. This puts everyone on notice that WP:Biographies of living persons applies to the page and puts the page into some categories that all biographies of living people should be in. It also prevents most search engines from indexing the article's talk page.
Also, when you see a page that has "bare links" in the reference section, consider running WP:REFLINKS on the page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:47, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hmmmmm... Maybe all biographical articles in AfC can have this talk page tagging done automatically? There's a lot to keep track of already. As far as reflinks, I agree they shouldn't be bare. I mainly stick to traditional editing. but I will try to take a look at the link you've provided. Thanks. Candleabracadabra (talk) 20:02, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- DoneThe AFC Helper Script does all of this if you accept an article and answer "yes" to the question "is this a biography" and either "yes" or "maybe" to the question "is this person still alive?". davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:22, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Not to beat a dead horse, but the AfC script replaces all the technical ick with nice easy wizards and point-and-click. CorporateM (Talk) 14:34, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination for Kurt Gutenbrunner
[edit]I have nominated an AFC submission which you moved into the main encyclopedia, Kurt Gutenbrunner, for deletion as a copyright violation of http://kg-ny.com/about-kg and http://kg-ny.com/biography . In addition, the article is way to biased because it relies on non-independent sources. See more details at User talk:KG-NY. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:16, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

[edit]I see you "undid" my edit to the George E. Merrick article. My edit was an "undo" of 2601's edit. This I understand. What I don't understand is that the text I removed included the words "Although this project was never fully carried out, the Swiss Village and the Japanese village were completed and still stand today." When you "undid" my revert these words disappeared. What happened here? GroveGuy (talk) 17:31, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
