Wallpack/Walpack, New Jersey

Hi Alan ... I'm working on converting the New Jersey NRHP county lists to table formats. Along the way, I'm tidying up some links. List of Registered Historic Places in Sussex County, New Jersey, has red links for Wallpack Center, New Jersey. I was planning to create a redirect for these links to Walpack Township, New Jersey, but am hesitating because of the minor difference in the spellings. Since you are a regular editor of New Jersey-related articles out here, do you happen to know if the spellings of both are correct? Googling Walpack Township and Wallpack Township, the former returns more hits. Googling Walpack Center and Wallpack Center, the latter returns more hits. Consistent with the Google results, the USGS GNIS database] has the township spelled Walpack and the "center" spelled Wallpack. I recognize that this is a very sparsely populated place and that you may not know this level of detail, but I thought I'd pose it to you since you seem to have some local Jersey knowledge. Wikis Take Manhattan

Wikis Take Manhattan Next: Saturday September 27

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City. The event is based on last year's Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, and has evolved to include StreetsWiki this year as well.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT

• Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Spring 2008 (a description of the results, and the uploading party)
• Commons:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Gallery (our cool gallery)

WINNINGS? Prizes include a dinner for three with Wikipedia creator Jimmy Wales at Pure Food & Wine, gift certificates to Bicycle Habitiat and the LimeWire Store, and more!

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, September 27th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.

Jim Hickman (1960s outfielder)

One of my all-time favorite Cubs. He was a major impact player on the Cubs of 1969 and 1970, kind of forgotten now when they talk about the Banks-Santo-Williams era. Yes, I remember his Mets days also. I especially remember one game I was listening to on WGN radio, in which he hit a high fly to left that Billy Williams was camping under, but the ball landed in the upper deck overhang a the Polo Grounds, for a game-winning homer. NJ - Municipal Emergency Services

You're off to a great start, and I think it adds to the article at the municipal level. The one thing I would suggest trying to do is to add more sources to support the details. "Inherent Notability" ??

You seem to be supporting inclusion of articles that lack any notability and, in fact make no claim of notability, much less provide references to support such claims. As defense, you claim "inherent notability." Can you help me understand what "inherent notability" means and how it meets notability requirements? Are there accepted guidelines and policies that support this concept? Is there an objective measure? Is there any form of valuation at all? I'm not interested in personal opinions or essays not accepted by consensus. The guidelines and policies I'm aware of seem to contradict your claim, and I'm hoping you can point me to guidelines and policies I might have overlooked. Words of Turkish origin

Hi, Alansohn. I was generally concerned with the category Words of Turkish origin, and saw that there was a discussion for renaming the category to Category:Turkish loanwords, but unfortunately it was too late when I noticed that. For me too it was necessary to rename the category to Turkish loanwords for consistency. Therefore I formed a new category named Turkish words and phrases and made some cleanup on the other category, namely I transferred some of the words from Category:Words of Turkish origin to Category:Turkish words and phrases. If only I had asked User:Kbdank71 directly about his justifications only for the contested and sourced CfDs that he provided no details for. Perhaps, this all could have been avoided if only Kdbank71 might have realized that providing any explanation for a contested CfD close could avoid problems down the road. If only I had not come to the unfortunate bafflement of seeing seven CfDs all closed by Kbdank71 within a span of a few minutes and seeing all of them, contested or not, being closed with the rubber stamp of "The result of the discussion was: delete". Perhaps the result would have been different if I had not listed all seven CfDs when trying to get additional details from Kbdank71, instead of assuming that he would realize that some of these CfDs (the contested ones, and especially where sources were provided in the CfD) were different from the others. If only I had offered the same documentation showing why I had a good faith issue with the close of Category:Fictional_obsessive-compulsives instead of hoping that Kdbank71 would provide context on his own and allow him the opportunity to respond to my reasons for questioning the close rather than hope he would reply and explain his actions. If only this had been an AfD, where providing reliable and verifiable sources trumps a claim of WP:OR without question, and not the topsy-turvy CfD world, where providing multiple reliable sources to rebut WP:OR carries no apparent weight and is not worthy of even consideration as an argument to keep a category, this might have ended differently. It's clear that things could have gone differently, and I have learned a valuable lesson from this about how the CfD process operates. I do understand why User:Postdlf prefered to pursue pushing for a block rather than addressing the underlying problems, and User:Jc37, who has been the initiator of a laundry list of CfDs and has been similarly unable to accept reliable sources as a solution to claims of WP:OR, has had to resort to maliciously false personal attacks, most notably a claim that I have been "calling for Kbdank71's desysopping" in complete violation of assuming good faith to rationalize this punitive block. In contrast, I am not the only editor who finds this particular block unjustified. Between this take page and WP:ANI, four editors with whom I have had no prior contact to the best of my knowledge -- User:Erik the Red 2, User:Pete.Hurd, User:Casliber, User:Ned Scott -- have independently agreed that the circumstances in question do not justify a block. I think it is quite reasonable to expect either a strong source to back up the alleged desysopping demand or an apology. List of James Bond actors. Tsk. Will have to turn that into a redirect to something like James Bond#Actors. Pah. None of the James Bond articles have a simple list of the actors. Even given widespread precedent, I wouldn't find it surprising to see a "James Bond actors" category tag at the bottom of those actor's pages. The precedent might perhaps cover a Category:Actors who have appeared in James Bond films or even Category:Actors who have played James Bond. Even then, I'd think you'd find broad consensus that the WP:OCAT doesn't fly from editors who are using that thing called "common sense". As the category in question is called Category:James Bond, we are making this encyclopedia worse for any reader by depriving them of any access via a category to articles about actors for whom playing James Bond is a strong defining characteristic of their careers as actors. Notable section in a school article

I've been monitoring the Haddonfield Memorial High School battle that has been occurring recently where the entire (long) section about the marching band is taken out by IP addresses, and the user MarchingColonials keeps reverting it. I didn't want to step into an area that I'm unfamiliar with, but quite frankly I kind of agree with the anonymous IP addresses who say it's not really noteworthy and that nobody really cares. Marching band is not like sports at all on the importance scale, and I do think that maybe the whole marching band section should be taken out. Because honestly, "who cares" is right. And the fact that there's only one supporter of it and it was the creator of the section in the first place shows obvious bias as to why they keep re-including it. Incivility

I'm sending this message to both of you. I'm not very familiar with what's going on, but I'm somewhat unimpressed by it.

Alansohn: when I wrote this in the talk page, I had you in mind, but you include "seem to utterly fail in the topsy turvy CfD world, in which every effort at recreation is met with knee-jerk delete votes" (emphasis added by me) in this comment.

Kbdank71: are you serious when you say this? Insane individuals taking great pleasure in roasting you alive? My guess would be that they're not really that interested in rotisseries, they're just unhappy (rightly or wrongly) with what you're doing in CfD.

I don't have all the answers, whether it be inviting more admins to close CfD debates, engaging in centralized discussions, mediation or user conduct RfCs. But even if we disagree in our visions of Wikipedia, that's no excuse for incivility. Andjam (talk) 09:34, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 June newsletter

We are down to our final 16: the 2013 semi-finals are upon us. A score of 321 was required to survive round 3, further cementing this as the most competitive WikiCup yet; round 3 was survived in 2012 with 243 points, in 2011 with 76 points and in 2010 with 250 points. The change may in part be to do with the fact that more articles are now awarded bonus points, in addition to more competitive play. Reaching the final has, in the past, required 573 points (2012, a 135% increase on the score needed to reach round 4), 150 points (2011, a 97% increase) and 417 points (2010, a 72% increase). This round has seen over a third of participants claiming points for featured articles (with seven users claiming for multiple featured articles) and most users have also gained bonus points. However, the majority of points continue to come from good articles, followed by did you know articles. In this round, every content type was utilised by at least one user, proving that the WikiCup brings together content contributors from all corners of the project.

Round 3 saw a number of contributions of note. Figureskatingfan (submissions) claimed the first featured topic points in this year's competition for her excellent work on topics related to Maya Angelou, the noted American author and poet. We have also continued to see high-importance articles improved as part of the competition: Ealdgyth (submissions) was awarded a thoroughly well-earned 560 points for her featured article Middle Ages and 102 points for her good article Battle of Hastings. Good articles James Chadwick and Stanislaw Ulam netted Hawkeye7 (submissions) 102 and 72 points respectively, while 72 points were awarded to Piotrus (submissions) for each of Władysław Sikorski and Emilia Plater, both recently promoted to good article status. Collaborative efforts between WikiCup participants have continued, with, for example, Casliber (submissions) and Sasata (submissions) being awarded 180 points each for their featured article on Boletus luridus.

The case in point is content promoted on the 29/30 June, which may be claimed in this round. Red categories

Hey, do you know why these categories are popping up on certain pages? Category:Historic districts in USA New Jersey Union County, Category:Historic districts in USA New Jersey Monmouth County, etc.

I use Hot Cat, and I am unable to get rid of them (no plus or minus button), and I doubt they should be created because they seem redundant to already existing categories. Tinton5 (talk) 16:46, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

• There is a parameter called locmapin used in the NRHP infobox that controls the map template used for pushpin maps. If the parameter is "New Jersey", it displays a map of the whole state, which is not very helpful. I worked with another editor to create maps of each county, and if "USA New Jersey Union County" is specified, it will show a map of Union County. The problem is that this parm is also used for another purpose for historic districts. So if locmapin contains "New Jersey" it correctly generates Category:Historic districts in New Jersey, but if it contains "USA New Jersey Union County" it incorrectly generates Category:Historic districts in USA New Jersey Union County. Because these red cats are generated by the template, there's no way to get rid of them using a tool like HotCat. I will look through the template logic and see if there is any way to work around this or to have it fixed to deal with the problem. Alansohn (talk) 18:16, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Hey, are we doing an ongoing project by adding the "official name" of each NJ municipality (with exception of CDPs of course), such as Township of Clark, Borough of Clayton, etc? I'm doing so other editing to add 2012 Census estimates and cycling through the municipal articles and doing some other cleanup. There are parms in the infobox settlement for name and official name. Name is pretty much the article title, while official name is the formal name used for the municipality. There was an ongoing debate in the articles for Chatham borough / township that revolved around these two parms and I figured that I'd take care of those in the other articles as long as I am staring at them at the top of each article. New Jersey municipality census maps

Greetings, and how are you? I'm Quadell, a long-time Wikipedian. I don't think we've met, but for the last several days I've been moving your New Jersey municipality census maps to Commons, and improving the categorization of New Jersey counties and maps. (You may have noticed, I'm not sure.) Now, when one browses through Commons:Category:Red Bank, New Jersey, one will find the relevant census and locator maps as well as photos of the region, and will see it correctly categorized for easy reference.

Anyway, I mostly just wanted to thank you for all your maps. They're a great asset, and it must have been tedious to upload them all. Also, if you have any feedback on the things I've been doing (related to NJ), I'm all ears.

Category confusion

You might want to take a look at Category:Cities in New Jersey, where subcats may not belong. Then what is the difference between that and this: Category:Cities in the New York metropolitan area? I agree that they don't belong there. The city articles belong in that structure, but not categories for the cities. I have been undoing these as I get around to them. Objection to your edits

The "Book of Job" page violates your rules regarding accurate quotes. The article says "God' this and "God" that, yet in the Bible itself (and in all translations) the name is LORD or YHVH not God attributed to the events cited. It's a personal interpretation or "original research", to interchange the names God and LORD (YHVH).

You tell me (since you're the expert) Why is it acceptable to use the word "God" when the text literally says YHVH or LORD? Are you accurately representing the text? Or just caving in to public opinion?

Reply - naming townships, boroughs, etc.

I am actually wanting to implement some kind of project in addressing this issue. I believe that the user who moved Denville, NJ to Denville Township, NJ as well as East Hanover, NJ to East Hanover Township, NJ, etc, has a point, whereas naming of places should be, in fact consistent with all other pages for the topic at hand. They are the "official" names. When it comes to NJ municipalities, there are still some that do not contain the word "township" such as Cherry Hill, Medford, and the ones you mentioned like North Bergen, etc. Cherry Hill and Medford used to have the word Township in their title some time ago, and I wonder if they should be placed back. But that means their categories have to change as well. It's a great topic to discuss in general, and with the users who are also involved with the page moves. By the way, this entire encyclopedia is not consistent at all. But focusing on NJ topics is another issue to deal with when it comes to consistency. Tinton5 (talk) 23:10, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

New Jersey townships

Sorry about that. I admit I'm not terribly familiar with local government in New Jersey, and it wasn't clear why certain townships didn't have "Township" in the name, especially since they had been moved several years ago with no apparent rationale. I wasn't aware that so many places in New Jersey were actually townships even though they're commonly known without "Township" in the name (and I've even been to Cherry Hill!) I won't move any more of those without a RM first; you can feel free to move those three back for now. (While the Randolph article seems to use Randolph Township within the article itself, there should probably be a discussion about moving it first.)

If it makes you feel any better, I can sympathize with odd state municipality structures. I do a lot of editing in Wisconsin, which has "towns" that have the same functions as townships in other parts of the Midwest. The towns often have the same name as neighboring cities or even communities located within the town. A lot of new editors think the towns are municipalities rather than townships and think the articles on communities with the same name are duplicates. Princeton (Part 2)

I utilized the link you provided and sent the task force an email. While this is a true merger, wherein the two existing municipalities will cease to exist and be superseded by the new consolidated Princeton, I'm told the new municipality will have a "borough form of government," meaning essentially it will all be the Borough of Princeton. While this won't be the same entity as the current Borough of Princeton, it will still technically be called the Borough of Princeton.

Now, I was curious what you and others were planning to do as there are currently 3 articles regarding Princeton. My advice would be to delete the Township and Borough articles as they'll be redundant. The article simply called Princeton should specify that the the municipality is a borough, and that it's existence came about from the merger of the former borough with the former township. I see no point in having 3 articles.

But what is your opinion and those of others heavily involved in editing those pages?

WikiCup 2013 July newsletter

We're halfway through this year's penultimate round, and the competition is moving along well. Pool A's Sasata (submissions) currently leads overall, while Pool B's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) is second. Both leaders are WikiCup veterans, and both have already scored over 600 points this month. If the round were to end today, Miyagawa (submissions), with 274 points, would be the lowest-scoring participant to make it through. This indicates that participants will need a score comparable to last year's (573, the highest ever) to qualify for the final. The high scores this year are a testament both to the quality of participants and to the increased focus on significant content (eligible for bonus points) in this year's competition. So far this round, both Sasata and Cwmhiraeth (submissions) have made up over half of their score through bonus points, with, for example, high importance FA koala earning Sasata a total of 440 points (from a multiplier of 4.4) and high-importance GA sea earning Cwmhiraeth a total of 216 points (from a multiplier of 7.2). Other articles on important topics submitted this round include a featured article on the Norman conquest of England by Ealdgyth (submissions), and good articles on Nobel laureate in literature Henryk Sienkiewicz, Nobel laureate in physics Hans Bethe, and the noted Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryū. These articles are by Piotrus (submissions), Hawkeye7 (submissions) and Sturmvogel_66 respectively.

Other than that, there is not much to report! WikiCup 2013 August newsletter

This year's final is upon us. Our final eight, in order of last round's score, are:

1. Hawkeye7 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer who has contributed on topics of military history and physics, including a number of high-importance topics. Good articles have made up the bulk of his points, but he has also scored a great deal of bonus points. He has the second highest score overall so far, with more than 3000 points accumulated.
2. Casliber (submissions), another WikiCup veteran who reached the finals in 2012, 2011 and 2010. He writes on a variety of topics including botany, mycology and astronomy, and has claimed the highest or joint highest number of featured articles every round so far this year. He has the third highest score overall, with just under 3000 points accumulated.
3. Cwmhiraeth (submissions), 2012 WikiCup champion, who writes mostly on marine biology. She has also contributed to high-importance topics, seeing huge numbers of bonus points for high-importance featured and good articles. Previous rounds have seen her scoring the most bonus points, with scoring spread across did you knows, good articles and featured articles.
4. Sasata (submissions), a WikiCup veteran who finished in second place in 2012, and competed as early as 2009. He writes articles on biology, especially mycology, and has scored highly for a number of collaborations at featured article candidates.
5. Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), the winner of the 2010 competition. His contributions mostly concern Naval history, and he has scored a very large number of points for good articles and good article reviews in every round. He is the highest scorer overall this year, with over 3500 points in total.
6. Ealdgyth (submissions), who is competing in the WikiCup for the second time, though this will be her first time in the final. A regular at FAC, she is mostly interested in British medieval history, and has scored very highly for some top-importance featured articles on the topic.
7. Miyagawa (submissions), a finalist in 2012 and 2011. He writes on a broad variety of topics, with many of this year's points coming from good articles about Star Trek. Good articles make up the bulk of his points, and he had the most good articles back in round 2; he was also the highest scorer for DYK in rounds 1 and 2.
8. Adam Cuerden (submissions) has previously been involved with the WikiCup, but hasn't participated for a number of years. He scores mostly from restoration work leading to featured picture credits, but has also done some article writing and reviewing.

We say goodbye to eight great participants who did not qualify for the final: Piotrus (submissions), Figureskatingfan (submissions), ThaddeusB (submissions), Dana boomer (submissions), Status (submissions), Ed! (submissions), 12george1 (submissions), Calvin999 (submissions). Having made it to this stage is still an excellent achievement, and you can leave with your heads held high. We hope to see you all again next year. Signups are now open for the 2014 WikiCup, which will begin on 1 January. All Wikipedians, whatever their interest or level of experience, are warmly invited to participate in next year's competition.

This last month has seen some incredible contributions; for instance, Cwmhiraeth's Starfish and Ealdgyth's Battle of Hastings—two highly important, highly viewed pages—made it to featured article status. It would be all too easy to focus solely on these stunning achievements at the expense of those participants working in lower-scoring areas, when in fact all WikiCup participants are doing excellent work. A mention of everything done is impossible, but here are a few: Last round saw the completion of several good topics (on the 1958, 1959 and 1962 Atlantic hurricane seasons) to which 12george1 had contributed. Calvin999 saw "S&M" (song), on which he has been working for several years, through to featured article status on its tenth try. Figureskatingfan continued towards her goal of a broad featured/good topic on Maya Angelou, with two featured and four good articles. ThaddeusB contributed significantly to over 20 articles which appeared on the main page's "in the news" section. Adam Cuerden continued to restore a large number of historical images, resulting in over a dozen FP credits this round alone. The WikiCup is not just about top-importance featured articles, and the work of all of these users is worthy of commendation.

Verifiable notability for school alumni

The Wikipedia guidelines for notability of lists of people clearly state:

"A person may be included in a list of people if all the following requirements are met:

• The person meets the Wikipedia notability requirement. An exception to this requirement may be made if the person is famous for a specific event, the notability requirement need not be met. If a person in a list does not have an article in Wikipedia about them, a citation (or link to another article) must be provided to establish their membership in the list's group and to establish their notability on either BLP1E or BIO1E.
• The person's membership in the list's group is established by reliable sources."

Note the emphasis on "if a person in a list does not have an article about them a citation must be provided". Nowhere does it state that entries on lists of people absolutely must have their own Wikipedia pages to establish notability. Clearly, to receive the highest medals during World War I qualifies as one event notability in the real world for mention on a notable alumni list. Only a small portion of people in the U.S. (significantly less than .1%) have ever attained such medals of distinction like the Distinguished Service Cross. Likewise, to design a $20 million 9/11 memorial clearly qualifies as one event notability for entry on a notable alumni list. Many notable persons do not yet have Wikipedia pages about them. This fact alone should not bar their mention on school's notable alumni lists.

WikiCup 2013 September newsletter

In 30 days, we will know the identity of our 2013 WikiCup champion. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) currently leads; if that lead is held, she will become the first person to have won the WikiCup twice. Sasata (submissions), Hawkeye7 (submissions)—who has never participated in the competition before—and Casliber (submissions) follow. The majority of points in this round have come from a mix of good articles and bonus points. This final round is seeing contributions to a number of highly important topics; recent submissions include Phoenix (constellation) (FA by Casliber), Ernest Lawrence (GA by Hawkeye7), Pinniped, and red fox (both GAs by Sasata).

The did you know (DYK) eligibility criteria have recently changed, meaning that newly passed good articles are accepted as "new" for did you know purposes. However, in the interests of not changing the WikiCup rules mid-competition, please note that only articles eligible for DYK under the old system (that is, newly created articles or 5x expansions) will be eligible for points in this year's WikiCup. We do, however, have time to discuss how this new system will work for next year's competition; a discussion will be opened in due course. On that note, thoughts are welcome on changes you'd like to see for next year. What worked? What didn't work? What would you like to see more of? What would you like to see less of? All Wikipedians, new or old, are also warmly invited to sign up for the 2014 WikiCup.

Re: County edits and sources

Hi, Thanks for contacting me. I changed the references mostly because I don't see the need for five or six different references for the population numbers, especially since most of them are redundant. When I started updating populations, I was using the University of Virginia website, because it does have nice tables, but someone else changed them to the general census website I use now. I think it is nice to have one consolidated link for all dates. Maybe some people find it too cumbersome, but I don't think it is altogether inappropriate.

On a different note, the geography reference used in the New Jersey articles ([3]) is no longer good. Although it's impossible to access right now, this should be the corresponding table for New Jersey. But I find {{GR|1}} just as useful (unless you don't like the extra navigation.) Thanks. Municipalities in New Jersey

PLEASE do not remove the municipality categories for categories in New Jersey! It is very appropriate to list all the Township, Town, City and Borough categories under the parent category for the state! By removing the link it becomes extremely difficult to find all the named categories, such as cities in New Jersey. Categories named after a municipality are TOTALLY appropriate to include in that parent category. Your rationale for removing them would force the removal of far too many categories from their appropriate parent, such as category about a municipality in a county not being linked to the parent category for the county, i.e. not including the category for Elizabeth, NJ in the category Union County, NJ, since Elizabeth is not the county! 1. Although I would dispute your use of the word "abusive", I'll grant that it's subjective and you're free to consider anything abusive, regardless of merit.
2. I read ninety articles by Orser67. Twenty-two of them were about people who are current candidates for US Congress. For ten of them, I judged that there was no assertion of notability aside from 'is currently a candidate for US Congress'. I have since restored those articles so that they can go through a formal AfD. This is a factual error on your part; please correct it.

Being a candidate for Congress as the choice of a major party is an assertion of notability. It may not be enough to withstand AfD, but it is more than enough to exclude the possibility of a speedy deletion, all the more so when the articles include multiple reliable and verifiable sources about the subject. Actually, after I looked more closely at the Glasson citations on his own page, it appears he only played live once with Seal. Melbourne MacDowell, South River, New Jersey

Hi, not only was South River called Little Washington but it had been called Washington Woods and Washington Village during the time of MacDowell's youth in the mid Victorian era. The source is included in citation #1 two sentences into the main article: the Lewis Strang book on actors which was published in 1898-99, the name of the town had only been changed to South River in 1897. Two men associated with the town were named Thomas Willet and his grandson Samuel Willet. I don't know if they're related to Melbourne MacDowell whose Christian first name is 'Willet' . The notables section in the South River article are arranged by the person's year of birth not ABC order which is why I put MacDowell at the top as he was born in 1856 which makes him earlier than any other person on that list. why not use the Internet Movie Database (IMDb)link on MacDowell's external links section of his page. I had a physical copy of the 1899 Strang book from a college library when I wrote MacDowell's wiki entry. School history of Morristown-Beard School

Clearly, Morristown-Beard School carries the history of St. Bartholomew's School as it represented a re-founding of that school and name change. As the article on Morristown-Beard School explicitly states, three Harvard graduates took over St. Bartholomew's School after its financial difficulties and renamed the school to the Morristown School. Thus, the removal of Herbert Claiborne Pell, Jr. from the alumni section represents an error because he attended St. Bartholomew's School:

-The Wikipedia entry on Morristown-Beard School: "Morristown School was founded in 1891 as St. Bartholomew's School"

-An Uncommon Man: The Life & Times of Senator Claiborne Pell By G. Wayne Miller: "Herbert attended St. Bartholomew's School in Morristown, NJ..."

Likewise, every single third party description of Morristown-Beard states 1891 as the founding year for the school (including books on preparatory school listings).

The year 1891 reflects when the Episcopal Church founded St. Bartholomew's School. The three men from Harvard from the class of 1888 did not rename the school to the Morristown School until 1898, the year after financial difficulties caused hardship in 1897. When they took over the school and changed its name, Morristown School occupied the same buildings, etc. as St. Bartholomew's School. In all but name, Morristown School was essentially St. Bartholomew's School under new ownership.

Thus, Morristown-Beard School alumni do in fact include those who attended Morristown School during the brief period when the boy's boarding school carried the name of St. Bartholomew's School.

I added Pell back to the alumni section where he belongs.

Ukrainians in Vineland, NJ

I have personally visited this Ukrainian church in Vineland (http://uebchurch.com/), as well as two other Ukrainian churches. So, there is definitely a Ukrainian community there. How would you propose adding it to the article?--Sanya3 (talk) 04:19, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

The presence of a church might be a start, but details regarding a Ukrainian community there -- with stores, organizations, festivals, heritage fairs, events, etc. -- would really be what's needed to demonstrate the existence of a cohesive community, with sources from newspapers and magazines. Bell, General Mills, Wash Twp Glo Co NJ

The Wash TWP, Glo Co NJ article contains the claim that the Bell family of the Bell's Lake area was connected to General Mills. I agree that the connection between Washington Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey and General Mills seems hard to believe, but this source from the Township's website makes the explicit connection to the company, and longtime president / chairman James Ford Bell was born in Philadelphia and attended the Lawrenceville School. The stream that runs through Bell's Lake is the steepest in the area, I don't doubt there would have been a mill there. Given the name and the fact that Bell worked in Atlantic City, with Wash Twp on a direct line between AC and Philly, I think the story is entirely plausible. I just suspect the mill site must have been built over, or we'd have had field trips to it as we did to Weymouth and Smithtown and various other local areas of interest. μηδείς (talk) 05:59, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Regarding your edit summary

On 23rd Street Fire of "Rv chg; Wikipedia is worse off with editors (and even worse, admins) who mindlessly remove content that is prefectly valid without any review or thought applied." - Please remember to assume good faith, and consider that that comment could be considered a personal attack. The editor who was being reverted is a community banned mass sockpuppeteer, who is using Wikipedia as a game so that he can get "recognition". Therefore the blanket and essentially automatic reversion of all of his edits, constructive or not, is supported by the banning policy; all of this banned editor's contributions are disruptive by their very nature and are reverted on sight. On Saturday night, I happened to pass the site of the incident, and I slowed down to point out to my wife the fact that this fire had resulted in the largest loss of life in the history of the NYFD (until 9/11), with the loss of 12 firefighters. This was a straightforward edit that added two categories, both of which clearly belonged on the article. If a bot were removing all of an editor's edits, I'd understand not distinguishing between good and bad. When someone is sitting down and one-by-one reverting tainted edits, I'd still hope that some brainpower would be utilized to separate the wheat from the chaff. I hope that if you are putting policy into place in the future, that the goal of making Wikipedia better with each and every edit be considered as a factor. It is. And not feeding a troll is a significant factor. The editor in question was warned a year and at least 50 sockpuppet accounts ago that any further edits he made would be considered as vandalism, and he has not stopped. It does not matter, per Wikipedia's banning policy, that the edits are constructive; the mere fact that they are made by a banned user makes them disruptive and requiring rollback so that the banned editor is not rewarded for evading their ban using illegimate accounts - so that Wikipedia is made better and not worse. If you believe this shouldn't be the case, then please open a discussion at the policy page to change the policy. In the meantime, as a legitimate editor you are more than welcome to re-add the categories yourself, but please don't make personal attacks on editors and admins who are applying policy and discouraging trolls when you do so. - The Bushranger _{One ping only} 02:17, 26 November 2013 (UTC)

If you keep useful content, you make the encyclopedia better; If you remove it, you make it worse. I saw the categories removed in a manner that made the encyclopedia worse, and I reinserted them. I don't give a crap if a troll or a sockpuppet or a pedophile or a mass murderer added the content: If it's good, it stays. If you believe that your role as an administrator is to mindlessly apply policies regardless of their impact, then we're all worse off. No one is forcing you to follow orders and you are free to apply a tiny measure of common sense in cases where useful material would be lost by blindly observing some policy. Is there any way to discourage admins and other editors who delete useful content in the name of enforcing editing purity? That's a discussion worth starting. If you truly believe that destroying Wikipedia is the best way to save it and that deleting content -- regardless of its value -- is an appropriate way to deal with "trolls", systematically and mindlessly removing anything they have ever touched, good or bad, we are truly screwed up far worse than I could ever have believed.
