- 31 October 2023 — the Suheldev Superfast Express, on the route from Ghazipur City to Anand Vihar in Delhi, suffered a derailment incident in the outer region of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. No casualties or injuries were reported [203]
- 15 November 2023 — A fire broke out in Delhi-Darbhanga Superfast Express near Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.
- 13 December 2023 — Portions of a 133-year old overhead water-filled tank made of metal collapsed on the passengers in joint platforms 2 and 3 in Barddhaman Junction railway station of West Bengal, killing 3 and injuring 34 passengers who were waiting for trains.[204] A forensic report was sought by the Government Railway Police to assess negligence and to know if the tank, built in 1890, was still capable of holding 2.5 lakh litres of water.[205]
2024
- 28 February 2024 — At least two people were crushed to death while many more were injured after being hit by a train near Kalajhariya in Jharkhand's Jamtara-Karmatand.[206]
- 15 June 2024 — A 62-year old man from Kerala sleeping on the lower berth of a sleeper coach (S6) in 12645 Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Millennium Express died as the upper berth with its occupant passenger fell on him. While the railway declared that the mishap occurred due to improper chaining by the upper berth passenger, the injured lower berth passenger was shifted to a nearby hospital in Ramagundam of Telangana state, where he later succumbed to the injury during a surgery.[207]
- 17 June 2024 — 2024 West Bengal train collision: An overspeeding freight train hit the rear of the Kanchanjunga Express (13174) near Rangapani railway station in Darjeeling district, approximately 10 km (6.2 mi) away from New Jalpaiguri railway station in West Bengal. Ten people reported dead and at least 60 injured.[208] [209] Since the rear guard van and two parcel vans absorbed most of the impact of the accident, only one passenger coach was derailed, which resulted in less casualties.[210]
- 18 July 2024 – 2024 Uttar Pradesh train derailment: 12 coaches of 15904 Dibrugarh–Chandigarh Express train derailed near Jhilahi in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh resulting in at least four dead and 32 injured.[211]
