* (Discuss) – :Smokey Bones Barbeque and Grill → – The current article name, Smokey Bones Barbeque and Grill, is no longer the name used by the company. The company is currently referred to as Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill. Although I would not be opposed if the article was renamed as such, I propose the article be renamed Smokey Bones to better suit its common name and to avoid future moves. * (Discuss) – :Perfect Strangers (TV series) → – I have given my thoughts about this requested name. ABC may be interpreted as the American Broadcasting Company, but there is also the ABC network in Australia: Australian Broadcasting Company. Also, another show may be the same name under the same American network. Nevertheless, there's Wings (NBC TV series). Until I vote, I'm abstaining this proposal. --George Ho (talk) 13:28, 13 April 2012 (UTC) |

Per WP:UE ("In deciding whether and how to translate a foreign name into English, follow English-language usage") the title should be translated into English because an established English title exists.I've also done an unrelated uncontroversial move from Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem AD to Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem. * (Discuss) – Footloose (1984 film) → – The movie/franchise about a town that bans dancing is by far and away the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, this page alone getting ten times the views of the G.I. Joe character. The only thing that stops this from being uncontroversial is that the 2011 film has as many views as this one, which brings me to the second point in PRIMARYTOPIC: that usage and long-term notability both play a part. Unofficially, unless an adaptation is much more popular, we tend to give the undisambiguated title to the original, as it's indicative of long-term notability: see The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, etc... Per MOS:HYPHEN, use a hyphen to link related terms in compound modifiers, i.e., to distinguish billiard ball computer from billiard ball computer. I can update the article text to use hyphens, and more articles link to Billiard-ball computer than Billiard ball computer. Would like to have a consensus before editing Wikipedia for consistent use of the term across articles. —Wbm1058 (talk) 18:43, 12 April 2012 (UTC) |

* (Discuss) – :Inverter (logic gate) → – consistency with related AND gate, OR gate, NOR gate, and XOR gate. Note also Negated AND gate, for thoroughness. I would also proffer WP:NAMINGCRITERIA: use names that are precise (inverter has multiple meanings); and particularly WP:PRECISION and WP:PRIMARY, considering distinction from inverter (electrical), which is viewed more than 6 times as often. I should note that I previously requested a move at inverter (electrical) (currently outstanding), and page view stats are in that discussion. Another guideline to consider is WP:COMMONAME, and I believe both "NOT gate" and "inverter" are used in WP:RSs. Google hits, for what they're worth, I found as follows:<br>"not gate": About 387,000 results<br>"not gate" logic: About 713,000 results<br>inverter "logic gate": About 1,630,000 results<br>"logic gate" inverter: About 316,000 results<br>"logic gate": About 154,000 results<br>inverter "logic gate" -not: About 760,000 results<br>"logic inverter": About 98,800 results<br>"digital inverter": About 836,000 results<br>"not gate" "logic gate": About 38,300 results<br><br>I'm not sure how to interpret these, given for example how adding terms sometimes increased the result count instead of narrowing it, nor whether Google hits are decisive here, but there they are, for thoroughness. Note also, for what it's worth, discussion above on merge of inverter (logic gate) and NOT gate, effected 16 September 2008. * (Discuss) – :Gospel Music Channel → – The network changed its name two years ago. 'Gospel Music Channel' isn't listed as a name on their web site, and 'gmc' or 'GMC TV' is used exclusively in press releases and on the web site. A google search of "GMC TV" finds many hits in trade mags (although I'm not finding quality secondary sources about this network since the name change). 'gmc' is also used, but usually for branding, but 'GMC TV' seems to be used for discussions of the business (see the press releases), and is also used in the URL. The network cites Nielson ratings to claim it is available in 50M households, and has 230K prime time viewers, so I think prominent enough to warrant any confusion this causes with General Motors Corporation. When I search "GMC" in google, the second item after General Motors is the network website, which beats out individual car models, etc. -LaTeeDa (talk) 17:12, 12 April 2012 (UTC) |

* (Discuss) – :Discrimination based on skin color → – "Colorism" is the WP:COMMONNAME and is used repeatedly in the article, which suggests that many or most of the sources in this article are using the term. In addition to laziness having prevented an editor from removing the repeated use of "colorism" in the article post name-change, it could also be that the term is continually used in the article because it is quicker to type, and saying "Discrimination based on skin color" all the time just doesn't flow as nicely. I don't believe that "colorism" is that much of a neologism anymore. But even being a neologism, some neologisms are allowed on Wikipedia, per WP:NEO. The previous move request discussions about or related to this article and similar neologisms took place at Talk:Height discrimination, but they weren't as much about the merit of using the term colorism as an article title. Only five days later it was moved again, this time to "Volkswagen Beetle 2011". Clearly, using the chassis code A5 in the title is much clearer, and will avoid constant article moves from people who prefer model years or calendar years. I suggest restoring this to its original title - a user would most likely come here from the hatnote on top of the New Beetle article, so no one would be expected to know VW's internal chassis codes. - (Discuss) – Smokey Bones Barbeque and Grill → Smokey Bones – The current article name, Smokey Bones Barbeque and Grill, is no longer the name used by the company. The company is currently referred to as Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill. Although I would not be opposed if the article was renamed as such, I propose the article be renamed Smokey Bones to better suit its common name and to avoid future moves. - (Discuss) – Zainab 'al-Khawaja → Zainab al-Khawaja – to remove the extra '. The target page is a re-direct. Mohamed CJ (talk) 15:34, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Perfect Strangers (TV series) → Perfect Strangers (ABC TV series) – I have given my thoughts about this requested name. --George Ho (talk) 13:28, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – Triskaidecagon → Tridecagon – This is the only polygon whose article uses "kai" in the name. Since both the forms with and without "kai" are just as common, we should move this for consistency with tetradecagon, pentadecagon, etc. Double sharp (talk) 11:28, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – Ninja (musician) → Ninja (British rapper) – Ninja (musician) is far more likely to be in reference to Watkin Tudor Jones, who uses the name Ninja legally and privately as well as onstage. His bio is currently viewed about 40 times more often on average than this one: 45,000 a month for him [1] vs. 1,200 for this bio.[2] I propose moving this biography to Ninja (British rapper) and moving the Jones bio to Ninja (rapper), with the current Ninja (musician) redirecting to the disambiguation page Ninja (disambiguation). - (Discuss) – Crnogorski elektroprenosni sistem → Montenegrin Electrical Transmission System – The English version of their website calls the company "Montenegrin Electrical Transmission System". I have a feeling AD is similar to Inc., Corp., and Lld. which are not put in article titles. Brightgalrs (/braɪtˈɡæl.ərˌɛs/)[1] 22:42, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Alfredo Simón → Alfredo Simon – Reason: His name is pronounced in the American/English manner with no emphasis on the "o" in Simon. Therefore the article on Simon should be titled "Alfredo Simon". However, Alfredo Simon redirects to Alfredo Simón. That is why I need assistance for making this move.BeenChanged (talk • contribs) 20:56, 12 April 2012 (UTC) orig. timestamp 20:28, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – Jessica James → Jessie James – I have no idea why this move was made considering she is still known professionally as "Jessie James" and never once as "Jessica James". Plus "Jessie James" still redirects here. QuasyBoy (talk) 19:50, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – User:Gjh1588/sandbox → RF – Finished working on and editing the RF|Binder page and ready to have it published, so I not longer want it to be in the Sandbox. Would like for this to be an official Wikipedia article. Gjh1588 (talk) 19:43, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Footloose (1984 film) → Footloose – The movie/franchise about a town that bans dancing is by far and away the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, this page alone getting ten times the views of the G.I. Sceptre (talk) 18:52, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Billiard ball computer → Billiard-ball computer – which was the article title before SMcCandlish (talk) (contributions) moved Billiard-ball computer to Billiard ball computer over redirect because "Title doesn't match article text.", on 29 October 2011. —Wbm1058 (talk) 18:43, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Inverter (logic gate) → NOT gate – consistency with related AND gate, OR gate, NOR gate, and XOR gate. Google hits, for what they're worth, I found as follows:
"not gate": About 387,000 results
"not gate" logic: About 713,000 results
inverter "logic gate": About 1,630,000 results
"logic gate" inverter: About 316,000 results
"logic gate": About 154,000 results
inverter "logic gate" -not: About 760,000 results
"logic inverter": About 98,800 results
"digital inverter": About 836,000 results
"not gate" "logic gate": About 38,300 results
I'm not sure how to interpret these, given for example how adding terms sometimes increased the result count instead of narrowing it, nor whether Google hits are decisive here, but there they are, for thoroughness. Note also, for what it's worth, discussion above on merge of inverter (logic gate) and NOT gate, effected 16 September 2008. ENeville (talk) 17:56, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Gospel Music Channel → GMC TV – The network changed its name two years ago. 'Gospel Music Channel' isn't listed as a name on their web site,[3] and 'gmc' or 'GMC TV' is used exclusively in press releases and on the web site. A google search of "GMC TV" finds many hits in trade mags (although I'm not finding quality secondary sources about this network since the name change). 'gmc' is also used, but usually for branding, but 'GMC TV' seems to be used for discussions of the business (see the press releases[4]), and is also used in the URL. The network cites Nielson ratings to claim it is available in 50M households, and has 230K prime time viewers[5], so I think prominent enough to warrant any confusion this causes with General Motors Corporation. When I search "GMC" in google, the second item after General Motors is the network website, which beats out individual car models, etc. -LaTeeDa (talk) 17:12, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Edward of Portugal → Edward, King of Portugal – I suggest that we move this article to Edward, King of Portugal because, as he had no regnal number, he is easily confused with other Portuguese royalty, such as Joan of Portugal or Isabella of Portugal (their article names do not contain their honorific title of Infante or Infanta). Also, per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (royalty and nobility), this name is recommended. Alexcoldcasefan (talk) 08:13, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Sword of State → Sword of state – As can be seen by the article, this is about the generic term, not a specific "Sword of State", and should therefore be decapitalised per WP:CAPS/MOS:CAPS. Jenks24 (talk) 05:02, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Firestarter → Firestarter (novel) – I wonder if this Stephen King novel is primary topic. I don't think providing statistics of the novel are necessary, as the stats do not tell what the readers intend to surf. In fact, the unrelated Prodigy song
has gotten the same views asis more popular than the film soundtrack and the miniseries sequel. Recently, I created dab pages of Start a Fire and Start the Fire. George Ho (talk) 04:40, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – 4th Brigade (US 1st Infantry Division) → 4th Brigade Combat, 1st Infantry Division (United States) – Please move this page to the former redirect page for Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (United States). This move aligns the names with the rest of the division's brigades and other US divisions. Ryan.opel (talk) 03:56, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Digital Bibliography & Library Project → DBLP Computer Science Bibliography – This is the current official title for the DBLP. The previous Wikipedia title "Digital Bibliography & Library Project" should be superseded by simply DBLP and/or DBLP Computer Science Bibliography. As the DBLP FAQ states DBLP is preferred over the outdated "DataBase systems and Logic Programming" and no mention is made of the assumed backronym "Digital Bibliography & Library Project" though this backronym description clearly fits the properties of the service.Davient (talk) 03:34, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – The First Edition → The First Edition (band) – The band is the popular topic, but is it also the primary topic? I really thought "The First Edition" should be redirected to edition (book), as The First Edition (disambiguation) already exists. --George Ho (talk) 02:01, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Cisplatine War → Argentine–Brazilian War – There are 3.160 google book results for "Argentine-Brazilian War" and only 802 for "Cisplatine War". Plus, the new name may be better for readers: any reader can recognize Argentina and Brazil, and understand that this was a war between both (actually, they were the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata and the Empire of Brazil back then, predesesor states of modern Argentina and Brazil, but nobody is that technical). On the other hand, "Cisplatina" was a former province of the Empire of Brazil, and hardly anyone beyond history experts will recognize that name beforehand.Note, by the way, that I'm not requesting to undo the former move request, this is a new one. The old one was from "Argentina-Brazil War" (names of countries, not demonyms), which had just 98 results, and I'm not asking for it. Cambalachero (talk) 01:38, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – NAD-malic enzyme → Malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) – On 25 October 2007, the article page was created with the title "Malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating)". I believe that this is the best possible title. See EC 1.1.1.39. On 4 December 2011, the page was moved to "Malic enzyme". Unfortunately, malic enzyme is ambiguous. It can refer to malate dehydrogenase (oxaloacetate-decarboxylating) (EC 1.1.1.38) and to malate dehydrogenase (oxaloacetate-decarboxylating) (NADP+) (EC 1.1.1.40), as well as to malate dehydrogenase (oxaloacetate-decarboxylating). On 9 April 2012, I moved "Malic enzyme" to "NAD-malic enzyme", and made "Malic enzyme" into a disambiguation page.At present, Malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) is a redirect to NAD-malic enzyme, and Malic enzyme is a disambiguation page. The details are gruesome. My understanding of moves is limited. I would appreciate help. J G Campbell (talk) 19:06, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – Rajah Lakan Dula → Lakandula – Up to the 70s and 80s he was often erroneously referred to as Rajah Lakandula, but the terms "Rajah" and "Lakan" have the same meaning, making the use of both "Rajah" and "Lakandula" at the same time redundant. Current orthodox sources, such as William Henery Scott, Luis Camara Dery, and Ambeth Ocampo refer to him either as Lakan Dula or Lakandula. Nick Joaquin, in 1990 (Manila, My Manila: A History for the Young. Anvil Publishing) was particularly emphatic in calling attention to the redundancy. As for "Lakandula" (spelled as one word) versus "Lakan Dula" (split into two words), Lakandula had 242,000 google hits. Lakan Dula only had 66,0000. - Alternativity (talk) 10:35, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

The person who recently renamed this article (User:Varscona72) had perfomed the same incorrect move on "Hunter College", and that move already had to be reverted, by consensus. That editor is creating bold changes to articles without realizing the consequences. - (Discuss) – South Shore Line (NICTD) → South Shore Line – This is a repeat of the move request from 2010. That request was closed as no consensus on the weight of DanTD's objection that this move would rob the South Shore Line of its distinctiveness, and that the Red Line in Boston is also called the South Shore Line. I believe that this was a misreading of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, which provides a two-prong test for a primary topic:*A topic is primary for a term, with respect to usage, if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term.*A topic is primary for a term, with respect to long-term significance, if it has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term. This article clearly satisfies these criteria. Furthermore, of all the articles listed at the disambiguation page, it is the only topic which is known primarily by this name. While the Chicago SouthShore and South Bend Railroad is also colloquially known as the South Shore Line, it is located at is proper name. Similarly, while there is anecdotal evidence that the MBTA Red Line is referred to as the South Shore Line, no one has proved this to be common usage, and it certainly isn't more common than Red Line. There are no doubt many other railroad routes throughout the world referred to as the "South Shore Line," as Anthony Appleyard noted in the last debate. If so, we don't have articles about them, or we do but in no case is this usage so prevalent that someone saw fit to add it to disambiguation page. Even if they had, none of these other railroads/routes/services have this exact name. This is the only topic on Wikipedia with the proper name South Shore Line. It is by far the most common usage of the term. Our article name should reflect that. Mackensen (talk) 23:54, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – IPad (3rd generation) → iPad 3 – Neither "iPad (3rd generation)" or "iPad 3" is the official name of the device (the official name is "the new Ipad"). However, I believe that "iPad 3" is the most neutral and commonly used layman term, as per WP:COMMONNAME. A reader is probably more familiar with the name "iPad 3" than any of the other names. Many reliable sources use both names (as Apple has created massive confusion over the name), but "iPad 3" is by far the most common name used by common folk on blogs, forums, etc. A Google search for "ipad 3" returns about 133,000,000 results while a search for "ipad 3rd generation" or "3rd generation ipad" returns less than 10,000,000 hits total. - (Discuss) – Dumbbell front raise → Front raise – The front raise exercise can be done with barbells, cables, kettlebells, stretch bands, and any other number of resistance implements. Having it specifically refer to dumbbells and having 'front raise' direct here as it currently does is overly specific. The 'dumbbell front raise' is merely a term to specify the exercise done with a specific implement and is more deserving of a section than a complete title. Y12J (talk) 23:21, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – Waterdeep (city) → Waterdeep – I think the fictional city -- the most important city in the most popular D&D setting -- is far more likely to be the topic sought by readers under the name "Waterdeep" than a relatively obscure band. Google results are actually pretty well split, assisted by virtue of the band holding the waterdeep.com domain name, although a Google Books search unsurprisingly favors the city and a Google Scholar search shows little sign of either entity. (It's worth noting that the Waterdeep (band) article actually has no third-party sources listed and thus appears to violate our notability guidelines, though I'm certainly not proposing deletion.) Most importantly, though, since we have only two items on the disambiguation page, the disambiguation page is really superfluous and we can get rid of it entirely by designating one topic as primary, and I think that's a strong incentive to do so if at all possible. - (Discuss) – It's Great to Be Alive (disambiguation) → It's Great to Be Alive – At the previous discussion, I requested move for two pages because I don't think a film has reasons to be a primary topic. This time, I believe that either topic with the same name, "It's Great to Be Alive", is not a primary topic because chances of familiarity of the film is slim to none. Doug Fisher (politician) is not a popular topic as Doug Fisher (actor) ([9],[10]), so Doug Fisher was redirected to Douglas Fisher. Changing from David Isaacs ([11]) to David Isaacs (singer) ([12]) must have affected the popularity of the singer in Wikipedia and David Isaacs (writer) (even with little effect). If this move has full support from the whole consensus, then I swear that the film will be not popular as before. George Ho (talk) 18:39, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – Republic of China (disambiguation) → Republic of China – Republic of China is currently a redirect to Taiwan. This certainly violates the "principle of least surprise." Googling "Republic of China" -wikipedia suggests that readers using this lemma are quite likely to be looking for the People's Republic of China. All we can do for those readers is put up a "Not to be confused" hat note. There is no reason to think that readers are more likely to be looking for Taiwan than for Republic of China (1912-1949). It may be common to use ROC to mean "Taiwan", but this meaning generally has to be explained as it is unnatural. For example, the top Google result is actually for Republic of China (Taiwan). Thus, I think that this Bowker's article should be retitled and John Bowker should become a disambiguation page. Second of all it doesn't accurately reflect the content of the article, which goes beyond the initial big bang which occurred 13.7 bya, even discussing the fate of the universe. We have to define big bang: are we to call the whole history of the universe just a continuous big bang or is it the initial inflation that occurred 13.7 bya? To me this is a more accurate name. The comparison to Madonna in that previous discussion is misleading, as that term has a broad and long historic usage having nothing to do with the singer. No one else with the given name or surname "Adele" seems to use it as a mononym, and it's reasonable to assume that users interested in the name in general will use (name), whereas the majority of users who simply type in "Adele" are indeed looking for the singer. - (Discuss) – Celeste (colour) → Sky blue – Sky blue and celeste are similar shades of light cyan or azure, but sky blue is the more common term in English. Celeste is the Italian term for...sky blue. Propose rewriting article and changing the title to favor sky blue instead of celeste. Note that sky blue has redirected to several other shades of blue in the past; it currently redirects to celeste pbp 15:50, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Qi (Shandong) → Qi (state) – "Shandong" is not a good disambiguator. It is meant to disambiguate from the minor state Qi (Henan), but the problem is that Qi (Henan) was also later relocated to Shandong. Since Qi (Shandong) is a major state and the primary topic which Qi (state) redirects to, the disambiguation is unnecessary and it's better to just move it back to Qi (state), consistent with the names of other major Chinese states such as Qin (state) and Chu (state). --Zanhe (talk) 15:38, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

- (Discuss) – Taiji → Taiji (concept) – T'ai chi ch'uan, “T'ai chi”, is arguably the WP:PRIME target. The existing discussion was preempted by a confused "RfD" on certain redirects. Misspellings, pinyin and Wade-Giles renditions of a word all mean exactly the same thing. However, the objective that the “RfD closes in favour of Wade-Giles-ish → dab” over-extends the scope of the RfD, for example, to move the “martial art at the top of the dab… as it is the most likely searched for” while avoiding the WP:PRIME guideline altogether via unsubstantiated opinion regarding an admittedly fictional distinction: “Pinyin vs Wade-Giles is an unfortunate circumstance brought about by laymen, but the truth is that the (usage) ambiguity surrounds the Wade-Giles version(s), so sadly the line is actually between pinyin & WG, when there shouldn't even be one”. - (Discuss) – The Cardinals (rock band) → Ryan Adams and the Cardinals – Relisted. This needs more input. The article has been at this name for a while. - (Discuss) – Doug Leeds → Douglas B. Leeds – Douglas B. Leeds the person is often referred to as "Douglas B. Leeds" in the references section and by external sources. Doug Leeds has almost no internal wikipedia pages linking to it. Douglas B. Leeds is not living, so a more formal name is appropriate. Douglas Leeds the person is referred to in all external sources as Doug Leeds. Several internal pages link to Douglas Leeds, though this is awkward because the person is known exclusively as Doug Leeds. SammyKobe (talk) 03:12, 1 April 2012 (UTC). I should also mention that a google search for "Doug Leeds" brings up both (with slightly more weight to Doug Leeds (born 1968), but a Google search for ""Douglas Leeds" is almost completely all Douglas B. anyno examples of non-Christian unfulfilled religious predictions. It briefly had one example, after I added a reference to the Ghost Dance, but that was (accidentally) deleted some time ago. In any case, no other editors contributed any non-Christian examples. If I had my druthers, the page would be deleted as an example of a hopeless list that can never be complete or non-arbitrary, but previous AFDs have failed. In the absence of any clear criteria for inclusion of this list, what has emerged has been exclusively a list of Christian predictions.
