Speedy deletion declined: Ahs dert

Hello Jinkinson. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Ahs dert, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: This is a curriculum, not an A7-eligible person/group. Thank you. —Darkwind (talk) 07:46, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I was actively working on the page when you flagged it for speedy deletion. I did not know that the page could be reviewed or seen before I hit "Save" for the first time. I have moved the entire body of text that I was working on to my user sandbox at User:Stevenmg/sandbox/Howard H. Hays where I will continue to work on it before putting it in the article space. Speedy Deletion Equilibrium (video game)

Can you please tell me why this is being deleted? It stated because there aren't citations, but there are. This is an actual game that is highly anticipated from several known gaming industry devs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chaosngn (talkcontribs) 04:11, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. The reason is because at the time I tagged it for speedy deletion, it was very short and had no citations. If you want to know why there is a notability tag on the article, ask Discospinster, the user who placed it there. Jinkinson talk to me 04:40, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Use of different language citation usage

Hi, I have been trying to edit some pages in Hindi Wikipedia but the supported citations or URL's are very less (of the topic in Hindi language searching) in number in comparison to the same topic in English searching. My question: is it fair to support English or other language URL's and citations for editing in Hindi Wikipedia, and if yes then up to what extent? Please elaborate. Thanking for your co-operation. Hello, Jinkinson:

WikiProject AFC is holding a two month long Backlog Elimination Drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running from December 1st, 2013 – January 31st, 2014.

Awards will be given out for all reviewers participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 1400 articles, so start reviewing articles! Visit the drive's page and help out!

A new version of our AfC helper script has been released! It includes many bug fixes, new improvements and features, code enhancements, and more. If you want to see a full list of changes, visit the changelog. Please report bugs and feature requests there, too! Thanks. Northamerica1000(talk) 07:09, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion sorting

Hi Jinkinson, thanks for contributions to deletion sorting. However I noticed you delsorted this deletion discussion under People. Where a person is eligible to be listed under Businesspeople, Actor etc. it's best to list them there, rather than under People as it just swamps that generic People delsort. For example a Painter would be listed under People & Visual arts whereas a Track & Field athlete would be listed under Sportspeople. A list of delsorts, alternative to people can be found here. A1

Hey, Jinkinson, I've just declined an A1 tag you placed on an article. A1 is only for articles that have so little content that it is impossible to tell what the article is actually about, but this article (Church of God Rayos de Esperanza (Harrisonburg, Virginia, Pastor: Angel Echegoyen - Spanish Language)) is pretty clear about what its subject is. Also, in passing, it's recommended to give articles time before placing A1 or A3 (no content) tags on them, in case the author is still working on them; 10-15 minutes is generally the recommended minimum. As far as this article goes, it certainly doesn't seem to be notable at all, but as it doesn't fit any CSD criteria, it's probably best to use other means, like PROD or AFD. Thanks, Writ Keeper  17:27, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged The Mione Formation with WP:CSD#A3. The tag applies, but you tagged it only three minutes after its creation. Please don't do that again (see above).--Bbb23 (talk) 17:22, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, sorry. I'll try to wait 10 minutes next time, I hope that's sufficient. Jinkinson talk to me 17:26, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
10 minutes is the minimum per the footnote. If it makes you feel any better, an administrator deleted the article prematurely, so you're not alone. :-) --Bbb23 (talk) 18:34, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you protecting Niabot's image? It is needlessly pornographic, adds very little to the article, and makes the page look unprofessional. After a certain point someone needs to step in and stop people from adding needless graphic content to pages, even if others agree. Letting the article's state be dictated by whoever spends the most time arguing just isn't a viable path. 70.112.2.185 (talk) 00:40, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional tone and citation

You said it is a promotional tone. Would help me in this regard? How not to make it promotional especially if it is an introduction about something?

You have asked about citation that I will work on as long as the article does not go into delete section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quwatkhan (talkcontribs) 06:28, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What the article needs are reliable sources independent of the subject, so that rules out The Dardistan Times' Facebook and Twitter pages, for example. By "promotional tone" I am referring to the use of peacock terms such as "hard-hitting"; Wikipedia articles should not be written like an advertisement. Additionally, there are problems with, for example, the UNHCR source, in which the Times is mentioned, but it is not the subject of the UNHCR article. Read WP:WEBCRIT for more information. "Something sweet artisan cafe's" article

Hello Jinkinson.Could you help me please to clarify where the issues are in the article ? (if you have the time at the moment that is) Thanks Sugarbasin (talk) 00:20, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Take the sentence "Founded by three brothers with a passion of doing something different in the credit boom." This suggests that you may have a connection with this company and/or its founders, as it is not sourced. Which brings me to the need for more reliable sources--the article currently has only one, and much of it seems to be original research, which Wikipedia generally frowns upon. In retrospect, it's not that promotional, but it could do without sentences like the one I quoted above. Jinkinson talk to me 00:26, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok well, i just made a few edits and changed the sentence you highlighted. would you mind checking it again to see if the changes are appropriate? Sugarbasin (talk) 00:30, 8 December 2013 (UTC) maybe remove the word >different< from the sentence also? Sugarbasin (talk) 00:32, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Immediate block can and should be sought

Hey Jinkinson. I just wanted to let you know that when you come upon an editor like Mormonpride333 posting blatant racist hate speech, you can report immediately to WP:AIV. Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy. Any admin worth their salt would block this account in a second (without the need for any slavish adherence to the normal warning scheme or even a single warning having been left), and it would be good if that did occur as fast as possible given the nature of the edits. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 06:06, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, There are two issues with this cat you just created. The first one is technical: it is a subcat of Category:Psychiatry journals, so if a journal is added to "autism journals", it should be removed from "psychiatry journals". The second point is more fundamental. I'm not sure it is a good idea to have a category for journals on a single disease, because it gives the wrong impression, namely that these are the only journals publishing on autism. Almost all (if not all) journal in "psychiatry journals" will regularly publish research related to ASD. Obviously, you cannot categorize any journal that has ever published something on autism in "autism journals". For one thing, that would include all "psychiatry journals", and probably a good amount of "neuroscience journals", "neurology journals", and "pediatrics journals", too. Have a look at Category:Medical journals and you'll see that they are all named after areas of specialization, not specific disorders. In addition, I personally think that "autism" is actually a collection of disorders that look similar, but have different causes. Should that ever be proven, then we'd have to re-categorize everything again (but I admit that the latter issue is only very minor). Let me know what you think. --Randykitty (talk) 16:05, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This first point is a good one. I have removed it from the category psychiatry journals. As for the second point, I suppose that it is true that we see articles in journals like Nature that have to do with autism even though such journals do not publish exclusively in this area, but maybe a new name for my category, like "child psychiatry journals", would be more appropriate. Perhaps a thread should be started at WP:CFD. Jinkinson talk to me 16:13, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Removing the category "psychiatry journals" is not a good idea at all. You cannot have a "standalone" category, it has to be integrated into the category tree. So if "autism journals" is going to stay, it must be in "psychiatry journals" (and the individual entries removed from that cat). Making a cat "child psychiatry" would make more sense in the current framework of journal cats, but that would add just 4 more journals. The psychiatry journal cat has only 81 entries, so I don't really see the need to split off more subcats. --Randykitty (talk) 16:47, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, you have convinced me that this category should not exist. It is now empty and I have tagged it for speedy deletion. Jinkinson talk to me 16:54, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! --Randykitty (talk) 17:00, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do I have to add something

Hi Jinkinson, thank you for editing my new page. I'm new on wikipedia and I'm wondering about the text: "This article relies on references to primary sources. Please add references to secondary or tertiary sources. (December 2013)". The source is from 1go1.net and from the German version https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Lee . Do I have to add something? Would it help, if I ad links to the exhibition spaces, that the reader could see the artist name on this external page? Please also consider the mentioned books on the bottom of the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Lee . Best, monika

What I mean by primary sources is that several of the handful of links in the external links section are to Lee's own website, 1go1.net. It would help if you added links/references that weren't created by Lee himself. Other than that, thanks for translating the article into English. Hey

Have some patience. Many authors take a few edits to complete a new article. By editing it within a few minutes of their edits, one can create edit conflicts that can disrupt their work flow, and if they dont have a cache, make them lose a lot of hard work.--Metallurgist (talk) 21:30, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, this is about the Welcome to the show re make. I tried to link that page to the Artist profile but i could not do it, that's why i made a new page for it. I was talking to the person who made the original page as i did it, we are working on making that page perfectly up to standards with wiki( The Jokerr page and all affiliated pages) and that was the only option i saw to make it link to the Welcome to the show page.

Joshuaaaronhill (talk) 06:04, 12 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, it appears the Jokerr's article is up for deletion, and is probably going to get deleted as it doesn't appear to meet our notability guidelines for musicians; thus his albums' articles will likely get deleted as well. If not, would you refer a couple of music-based web sources that would meet your requirement?

I have found that the listed links, and media source, have been used by other musicians--including other Long Beach Dub Allstars' band members--as sources for their Wikipedia articles.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

DYK for Animal models of autism

Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 02:32, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MEDRS

Hi. Could you please read over WP:MEDRS and make sure that you follow its guidelines when citing medical claims? In general, you should not be citing primary research articles. There are also discussions at WT:MED and WP:FTN over the appropriateness of your last DYK the hook for the last DYK article you worked on. Thanks, Sunrise (talk) 16:35, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, you're the millionth person to tell me about MEDRS. I know about MEDRS very well, and I have tried to abide by it, but evidently I have not been trying hard enough. Anyway, I replaced one of the primary sources in Animal models of autism but I suspect you have an issue with the inclusion of the Hornig study, given that it is a primary source. However, I think it should stay provided that we say that it is contradicted by the views of every major scientific body on the planet, so we don't give undue weight to the discredited notion of a thimerosal-autism link. Also, I intend to add a reference to a secondary source to the Animal models page section about the Hornig study. BTW, I did not nominate it as a DYK, and had I done so I wouldn't have chosen to mention the Hornig study in the hook given the kerfuffle I knew it would cause. Jinkinson talk to me What did he do now? 20:23, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah, and as for my addition of primary sources on Thimerosal controversy, I am only doing what previous editors have done on that page, namely find epidemiological studies that contradict a link between thimerosal and autism and add mention of them one by one in the "population studies" section. I notice that you have removed the Deth study, the Hornig study, the Miles study and the Tozzi study. I can understand the removal of the first two, given that in vitro and animal studies are advised against in WP:MEDRS, but the last two should probably stay there, as they support the consensus view that thimerosal doesn't cause autism. If you're removing Tozzi and Miles, why not Hviid, Thompson, and Stehr-Green? Jinkinson talk to me What did he do now? 20:35, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply! I haven't worked with DYK before, so since you didn't nominate the article, I have struck and reworded my comments above and at FTN. Let me know if there's anywhere else I should do that. In the meantime, I've figured out who actually made the nomination and I will go talk to them instead. :-)
In response to your questions, I don't think whether the sources support the scientific consensus is an important issue in this case (the reason we have to check this in the first place is that due weight is determined using the secondary sources, which tell us what the consensus is). Perhaps my "fails MEDRS" comment in the edit summary was too strong (my personal standards are somewhat higher than MEDRS; maybe I'm misunderstanding part of the guideline?) - but the article already has plenty of primary studies with N in the tens of thousands or higher, so I don't see why we need these new ones with low N. For the examples you mention: I identified the sources from the history as those which had been recently added, so I didn't check the article in detail. Stehr-Green appears to be secondary (they did not collect the data they analyzed), whereas Hviid and Thompson appear to be primary. I would call Hviid a useful source for the article due to the massive N, but I would remove Thompson. I will hold off while I start a new talk page section. Declined article creation Boon Tuan Boon-Itt

Hi Jinkinson, You decline the creation of my article "Boon Tuan Boon-Itt" as you say he is a non-notable person. He may be insignificant in the West, but he is notable in Thai church history at the first Thai person to start a Thai Protestant church (which I have now added to the article). He is known here in Thailand, even if he is not in the West. Thai church history is a very under-developed academic discipline, partly because of the small number of Christians in Thailand and the small number of foreign scholars who can read and write the Thai language. But I am trying to remedy that :-)

The reason why we don't yet have any well-known English language publishers with books about him. But the "Historical Sketch of Protestant Missions" listed in the References is published by White Lotus, a well-known publisher of English-language books about history and culture in Southeast Asia. But Southeast Asian history is not very well known, which is why you may not have heard of them.

Can you reconsider your decline?

I have done some work on the Kimball Atwood article, mostly just formatting the refs. The Institute for Science in Medicine ref has some material that might be useful for expanding the article. A list of selected publications might be in order as well as mention that he is a founding fellow of ISM and a fellow of CSI. I don't know if his appearance on SGU is notable. The TACT study discussion could possibly be expanded. - - MrBill3 (talk) 13:57, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!

Hello Jinkinson, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! Aaron Swartz

I have removed the "connected contributor" template that you placed on Talk:Aaron Swartz. While I can understand why that tag might technically have been applicable at one point, the fact is that given the number of editors who have contributed to the article and the massive expansion since User:AaronSw last edited it, the portion of the article directly derived from AaronSw's edits is small. In addition, the template contains a pointer to the conflict of interest guideline, which is no longer relevant for obvious tragic reasons. I hope you will agree that we can live without this tag. The article Autism Research and Treatment has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not indexed in any selective databases, no independent sources. Not notable yet. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello Jinkinson,

I was trying to create a category by the above name. Since categories such as schools in east delhi and west delhi already exist, I realized that a number of schools listed on the schools in delhi belong in the south delhi sub category. Blessinvarkey (talk) 17:51, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have undone that edit to User:Jimbo Wales. I find that a bold conclusion that he is '(semi-)retired', he may just not have much time, be on holiday, do his work elsewhere on Wikipedia (other wikis, or even behind the scenes). I don't even think that not editing outside of his user-talk (and in the last 100 edits there are 4 mainspace edits, and edits to talkpages) make someone (semi-)retired either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scowls (talkcontribs) 23:28, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this definitely helps, particularly the recordedbooks.com link. However, IMDB is not particularly highly regarded as a reliable source, since its content is contributed by users in much the same way as Wikipedia's content is. See Wikipedia:External_links/Perennial_websites#IMDb. Also, her official website is a primary source, and as such is not ideal for articles about living people (see WP:BLPPRIMARY). Jinkinson talk to me 02:34, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

They still say there are no references and are threatening to delete the page. Do you have any idea what kind of sources they are willing to see as reliable? Well, Facebook isn't a reliable or independent source. See WP:RS and WP:GNG. However, it seems as though dw.de is in fact a reliable source (at least in Germany). Accordingly, I have removed the proposed deletion tag, as some of the article's sources are reliable. However, we are now left with an even bigger problem-- it seems that a significant part of this (admittedly very short) article was a copyright violation of one of the cited sources, and I have tagged it as such. In the future, please try to write things in your own words. Jinkinson talk to me 01:07, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About that picture of me.

Hi, that picture of me was actually taken this month, not in 2005. I changed the date on the picture to make it "float" to the bottom of my Flickr pictures so that no one could find it there ... So much for that!. Thanks, Jeffrey Beall (talk) 20:06, 27 January 2014 (UTC).[reply]

AfD

Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, as you did with Logo of Wikipedia. It was the correct link, and if you had clicked on it, you would have seen that. Sven Manguard Wha? 21:51, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I guess. It depends on how you define "correct," though--the link was clearly to an AFD for the article Administrators (Wikipedia), not Logo of Wikipedia, and I was under the impression that if you wanted to nominate two or more pages for deletion you had to create a separate AFD for each of them. However, it seems that, in fact, you can nominate 5 articles for deletion in only one AFD discussion. Now that I know this, I will be more careful looking at articles nominated for deletion in the future. Jinkinson talk to me 21:56, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've seen upwards of 20 nominated in bulk, in cases where the reason for it is identical (generally, also the author and timeframe is also identical, but not always). It's not common, but it's not at all rare. Sven Manguard Wha? 22:10, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Timothy Ball, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Telegraph (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Timothy Ball, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. jps (talk) 18:57, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Timothy Ball

You just beat me to removing the db tag from the userfied page. My reason for userfying is the close of the DRV at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2011 January 3. This clearly envisages that a new article could be acceptable, but I think you should check it out with HJ Mitchell (talk) and/or NuclearWarfare (talk) before it goes live. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:16, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ashdin Publishing has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable publisher. Just being on Beall's list is not enough to make a publisher notable.

WikiCup 2014 January newsletter

The 2014 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with, at time of writing, 138 participants. The is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2010. If you are yet to join the competition, don't worry- the judges have agreed to keep the signups open for a few more days. By a wide margin, our current leader is newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), whose set of 14 featured pictures, the first FPs of the competition, was worth 490 points. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

Featured articles, featured lists, featured topics and featured portals are yet to play a part in the competition. The judges have removed a number of submissions which were deemed ineligible. Typically, we aim to see work on a project, followed by a nomination, followed by promotion, this year. We apologise for any disappointment caused by our strict enforcement this year; we're aiming to keep the competition as fair as possible.

Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may be interested to take part in The Core Contest; unlike the WikiCup, The Core Contest is not about audited content, but, like the WikiCup, it is about article improvement; specifically, The Core Contest is about contribution to some of Wikipedia's most important article. Of course, any work done for The Core Contest, if it leads to a DYK, GA or FA, can earn WikiCup points.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. New article for Baring Asset Management

Hi Jinkinson, first of all a big thank you for your revision and acceptance of the new article for Baring Asset Management. I really appreciate your approval. Unfortunately, I've spotted a typo in the company's name - it's 'Baring Asset Management' not 'Barings Asset Management'. Could you please correct it? There could be a tech issue with this as the relevant link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baring_Asset_Management is currently redirected to the Mass Mutual article. Please let me know if you can help. Many thanks, Kat Kt1502 (talk) 18:53, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. However, if you want to move the article to the new title (without the 's'), you will need to go to WP:RM/TR and request it there. WikiCup 2014 February newsletter

And so ends the most competitive first round we have ever seen, with 38 points required to qualify for round 2. Last year, 19 points secured a place; before that, 11 (2012) or 8 (2011) were enough. This is both a blessing and a curse. While it shows the vigourous good health of the competition, it also means that we have already lost many worthy competitors. Our top three scorers were:

  1. Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer whose high-quality scans of rare banknotes represent an unusual, interesting and valuable contribution to Wikipedia. Most of Godot's points this round have come from a large set of pictures used in Treasury Note (1890–91).
  2. Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions), a WikiCup veteran and a finalist last year, Adam is also a featured picture specialist, focusing on the restoration of historical images. This month's promotions have included a carefully restored set of artist William Russell Flint's work.
  3. United States WikiRedactor (submissions), another WikiCup newcomer. WikiRedactor has claimed points for good article reviews and good articles relating to pop music, many of which were awarded bonus points. Articles include Sky Ferreira, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus and "Wrecking Ball" (Miley Cyrus song).

Other competitors of note include:

After such a competitive first round, expect the second round to also be fiercely fought. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2, but please do not update your submission page until March (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

Arbitration enforcement warning: Climate change

Please carefully read the following notice:

This message is to inform you that the Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions for topics relating to Climate change, which you may have edited. The Committee's decision can be read here.

Discretionary sanctions are intended to prevent further disruption to a topic which has already been significantly disrupted. In practical terms, this means that uninvolved administrators may impose sanctions for any conduct, within or relating to the topic, which fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, expected standards of behavior and applicable policies. The sanctions may include editing restrictions, topic bans, or blocks. Before making any more edits to this topic area, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system as sanctions can be imposed without further warning. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any other editor if you have any questions.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Murry Salby requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

DHeyward (talk) 23:00, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Murry Salby has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable academic/scientis. A7 was rejected but with no notability argument. There appears to be below threshold without any peer reviewed articles cited or noteworthy contributions. Article focuses on the negative aspect that he was fired because of failing to perform academic duties. It fails on multiple levels including NN, attack page, etc.

International College Notable Alumni

Faysal Ruwayha is a graduate of International College & was a Project Controller for the United nations for 23 years, in charge of improving all aspects of rural living standards in North & South Yemen, Lebanon, Syria & Jordan. Some projects included the financing of rural roads, schools, clinics, etc. The components of each project addressed the immediate needs of women, men & children which included starting fisheries, growing crops, teaching people how to raise poultry. He met with the impoverished individuals face to face & traveled to Washington, D.C., New York City, Rome, Italy & other destinations in order to secure the funding to provide the basic necessities that most people take for granted such as water, electricity & roads.

I would like to state that the above info is very important as Mr. Ruwayha has helped the world greatly. Please let me know how this may be added under notable alumni.

Most respectfully, Seekofjustice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seekerofjustice (talkcontribs) 18:47, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It may well be true that Ruwayha has done many helpful and altruistic things. However, this is not sufficient to justify having a Wikipedia article about him--for that you would need coverage in independent reliable sources (see WP:BIO). Also see WP:NOBLE for more about how someone doing many generous things doesn't necessarily mean they should have a page on Wikipedia.

Also, you can't add him under notable alumni until you have demonstrated that he should have an article as per what I said above. Jinkinson talk to me 18:53, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Salby background content

Hi, I certainly needed background overview to help explain what his work was about. Sometimes Wikipedia articles have a "___ for dummies" explanation and I was looking to emulate that spirit. Trying to summarize a complex field in a few paragraphs. Sportfan5000 (talk) 23:54, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I guess that might make sense if the "Background" section contained more than one sentence about Salby's actual research, appended to a huge chunk of science-y stuff which covers pretty much every possible atmospheric science-related topic there is. If you are sure that a background section is needed here, you should, in my opinion, whittle it down to stuff that actually pertains to Salby's research and leave out as much else as possible. Well that's in process, as it will take some time to find experts who will help work through his dozens of papers, determine which are most cited/significant, then write it all up. I'm hoping that will happen, but who knows when. Sportfan5000 (talk) 00:43, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay... So why are you telling me this? Jinkinson talk to me 13:55, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • You prodded this in January. It's standard practice to inform editors who have been involved in an article when there's an AfD discussion for that article. JNW (talk) 14:28, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I guess that makes sense, but only if your definition of "involved" is much broader than mine--I consider "involved" to mean that the user either created the article or wrote a significant chunk of its content. In other words, just tagging a page doesn't indicate that you care about its subject. Jinkinson talk to me 14:40, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You have repeatedly removed my edit to the page on Kary Mullis, in which I provide links for his rebuttal to comments on his Wiki page. Why don't you want readers to have access to his side of the story and make up their own minds? This seems un-scientific and downright denialist to prevent "the accused" to defend himself. If you disagree with the man or his views that is your right, but he should have an opportunity to defend himself against slander on his own Wiki page. If you continue to remove my edit I will report you for vandalism, but I would be very interested in your rationale for removing my posts considering you appear to be active and enthusiastic about Wikepedia as a medium for the exchange of ideas. I see you changed the article title and concentrated on Cedillo, the only problem with this is the other 2 cases listed under decisions seem to appear from nowhere. This needs to be rewritten to at least explain that the other 2 cases were part of 3 overall. No, no, no, I already knew that. I decided to, as per WP:BOLD, just add it to Alzheimer's disease myself because I wanted people to notice the page (mission accomplished, I guess). I justified the violation of MEDRS you pointed out above because I saw that that section also relied on a number of news stories and primary sources (particularly the stuff about cerebrospinal fluid), so I reasoned that if other stuff had been added to the article that flouted MEDRS and hadn't been removed, then my addition would not be reverted either. The article Grayson Bruce has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BLP, who is also a minor, arguably "notable" for only one event.

WikiCup 2014 March newsletter

A quick update as we are half way through round two of this year's competition. WikiCup newcomer Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) (Pool E) leads, having produced a massive set of featured pictures for Silver certificate (United States), an article also brought to featured list status. Former finalist Oh, better far to live and die / Under the brave black flag I fly... Adam Cuerden (submissions) (Pool G) is in second, which he owes mostly to his work with historical images, including a number of images from Urania's Mirror, an article also brought to good status. 2010 champion (Pool C) is third overall, thanks to contributions relating to naval history, including the newly featured Japanese battleship Nagato. Rhodesia Cliftonian (submissions), who currently leads Pool A and is sixth overall, takes the title for the highest scoring individual article of the competition so far, with the top importance featured article Ian Smith.

With 26 people having already scored over 100 points, it is likely that well over 100 points will be needed to secure a place in round 3. Recent years have required 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) and 100 (2010). Remember that only 64 will progress to round 3 at the end of April. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page; if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally. Good luck! I want to be adopted in Wikipedia, would you please consider adopting me?

I have been mostly inactive on Wikipedia, I am not sure "how to go about" being more familiar with Wikipedia editing. I would be grateful if you can show me the way!

Regards, Jyoti

Jyoti (talk) 17:01, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I guess I'd be willing to. Since there's apparently no official thing to do to adopt someone, I guess I have now adopted you. I guess you can ask me anything you want (about Wikipedia of course). Jinkinson talk to me 21:33, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Humm. That is interesting! :-) How about you give me a article of your choice to work on and guide me through it while I make not-correct actions? Jyoti (talk) 22:18, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have a better idea: you should go on Special:NewPagesFeed and try to either cleanup or nominate for speedy deletion as many articles as you can. Of course this assumes you know what the criteria are; if you don't read up on them before doing so. Jinkinson talk to me 23:02, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Will start with that. I live in India (IST timezone). There will be plenty of time between your response and my edits. :-)Jyoti (talk) 23:08, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have been reviewing from Special:NewPagesFeed, it is helping -- thank you. I need your advise how to handle this situation: if someone malevolently reverts my edit and I do not want to revert it again (to avoid edit war) but force him/her to discuss it in talk page while having my edits reinstated how do I do that? Assuming that my edit summary was descriptive, the edit was small and it was in compliance (of course, in my view at least). I want the other person to first justify or discuss that change and then only revert it! -- Asking this to avoid edit wars. In the same context -- Can I ask some senior editor/admin to review my edits beforehand? Is there a forum to request my edits for review? Jyoti (talk) 18:03, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ITN thanks/advice

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your nominations at ITN. I know you've had a low success rate so far, but I do hope you continue. We certainly could use more stories. In time, you'll get a better feel for what will get support and what won't - and there are plenty of stories that can get support that are never nominated.

As a frequent nominator and long time ITN participant, I wanted to give you a few tips:

  • First, (except for obvious stories) the most important part of getting support is to write a good, persuasive argument as to why something will be posted. It doesn't always work, of course, but at least it prevents lazy opposes from people who don't immediately grasp why a story should be posted and don't care to find out. When you write snarky/frustrated comments, you aren't doing yourself any favors. It is much easier to win an argument by being nice than combative.
  • Second, if you want to truly lower the standards of ITN (a noble goal), I suggest you also take the time to comment on/support other people's nominations. You aren't going to win the battle with one stab, but overtime you can gently persuade people to change incrementally.
  • Third, as a small point, I recommend added your nominations to the current events portal (the box at the top of the day) at the same time as you nominate them. It takes minimal effort and allows at least some exposure to the story. (Portal:Current Events is link to from the the main page ITN template so gets good views.)
  • Finally, keep at it. My first crusade was to get more science published. Nowadays, science stories have a pretty easy time of it. Then I spent years trying to get more appreciation of "cultural impact", which appears to be starting to work. Now I am working on getting more acceptance for business stories. I haven't had any success there yet, but I will keep at it and hope to make progress, because if I don't no one will.

Hi. I see from your biographical info here that you are a college student. Thanks for being a Wikipedia editor. College takes a lot of time and dedication and I am glad you find the time to edit Wikipedia. Students have access to research material that us common citizens do not have and that is a valuable resource.

That being said, and by the way, truly meant, I fond your comment regarding Sandy Hook at the above discussion way off base. At best, a red herring, at worst, a lack of good faith. This is what I mean:

Franklin

  • Perp
    • Minor
  • Location
    • The high school the perp attended
  • Weapon
    • Knives
  • Casualties
    • Approx 20 wounded, only one with a potentially life threatening wound and he is improving.
  • Sociatal effects
    • The school may get metal detectors?
  • Life of the story
    • Remains to be seen, but there really is not much more to talk about so I would be highly surprised if it lasts past today.

Sandy Hook

  • Perp
    • Adult
  • Locaation
    • A most likely random elemntary school
  • Weapon
    • Guns
  • Casualties
    • 27 dead on the scene, plus his mommy.
  • Sociatal effects
    • Renewed nationwide interest in gun control.
  • Life of the story
    • Still being talked about today (witness your comment)

As I have shown, there is very little similarity.

Even from looking at the policies regarding the coverage of crime (WP:N/CA, WP:BREAKING, WP:RAPID), it is apparent that there are several schools of thought on how to cover breaking events ln Wkipedia. I favor waiting (in all but the most extreme cases such as Sandy Hook, which this isn't) until we have a clear picture of what has happened and what it will mean. It appears you don't, and that is just fine. Just realize that implying bad faith in AfD discussions does nothing to further intellegent exchange of opinion and neither does throwing out red herrings.

You may be happy to know that I have asked the AfD be closed as a snow. Good luck on your upcoming finals and again, thank you for being a Wikipedia editor. Happy editing! John from Idegon (talk) 21:46, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on New Gods (Withered Hand album) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

The article Acayucan bus crash has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NEVENT and WP:NOT#NEWS.

Kary Mullis

You have repeatedly removed information provided in rebuttal of charges against Nobel Laureate Kary Mullis and have insisted on slandering him without providing his alternative explanation or room for rebuttal. This is in direct opposition to the central purpose of Wikepedia, which is to provide an open-source conduit for a diversity of views, not a back-and-forth sniping and vandalism/reprisal cycle. Please do not continue to act in such a malicious manner. You do a disservice to the community and to science by being a knee-jerk denialist instead of allowing people to make up their own minds after being exposed to the relevant arguments. Please respond... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjdavison 1 (talkcontribs) 17:16, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation join the new Physiology Wikiproject!

Physiology gives us an understanding of how and why things in the field of medicine happen. Together, let us jumpstart the project and get it going. Our energy is all it needs.

Based on the long felt gap for categorization and improvization of WP:MED articles relating to the field of physiology, the new WikiProject Physiology has been created. WikiProject Physiology is still in its infancy and needs your help. On behalf of a group of editors striving to improve the quality of physiology articles here on Wikipedia, I would like to invite you to come on board and participate in the betterment of physiology related articles. Help us to jumpstart this WikiProject.

  • Feel free to leave us a message at any time on the WikiProkect Physiology talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • You can tag the talk pages of relevant articles with {{WikiProject Physiology|class=|importance=}} with your assessment of the article class and importance alongwith. Please note that WP:Physiology, WP:Physio, WP:Phy can be used interchangeably.
  • You will make a big difference to the quality of information by adding reliable sources. Sourcing physiology articles is essential and makes a big difference to the quality of articles. And, while you're at it, why not use a book to source information, which can source multiple articles at once!
  • We try and use a standard way of arranging the content in each article. That layout is here. These headings let us have a standard way of presenting the information in anatomical articles, indicate what information may have been forgotten, and save angst when trying to decide how to organise an article. That said, this might not suit every article. If in doubt, be bold!
  • Why not try and strive to create a good article! Physiology related articles are often small in scope, have available sources, and only a limited amount of research available that is readily presentable!
  • Your contributions to the WikiProject page, related categories and templates is also welcome.
  • To invite other editors to this WikiProject, copy and past this template (with the signature):
  • To welcome editors of physiology articles, copy and past this template (with the signature):
  • You can feel free to contact us on the WikiProkect Physiology talk page if you have any problems, or wish to join us. You can also put your suggestions there and discuss the scope of participation.

Hoping for your cooperation! DiptanshuTalk 12:37, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Query re access

Hi Jinkinson, just a question for you that your comments made me wonder: do you generally have access to the full text of the journal articles we are discussing? NW (Talk) 15:50, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I do (being on a college campus and all). Any particular reason you're asking? Jinkinson talk to me 15:53, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was just going to extend an offer to share any that you didn't have access to in case that you didn't (it gets pretty tough to edit on these articles without access), but I am glad to see that it isn't necessary. NW (Talk) 16:29, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to The Bundles (album) may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Information icon A tag has been placed on Category:Eponymous debut albums requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, because it appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion process. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's discussion directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review instead of recreating the page. Thank you. Category:Films about Jesus

Hi. You've just created Category:Films about Jesus but perhaps you're not aware of the existing categories Category:Portrayals of Jesus in film and Category:Biographical films about Jesus? It seems this new category duplicates these categories. Tassedethe (talk) 00:06, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, I wasn't until just now. I tried searching for one but I didn't see any, probably b/c I wasn't sure what the cat name would start with. I guess I should redirect the one I created to one of the older ones, which I intend to do soon. (However an IP has been going around adding pages to it, which doesn't help). Speedy deletion declined: Robert Vahey

Hello Jinkinson. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Robert Vahey, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Passes WP:A7, but may well be deleted in an WP:AfD discussion - probably best to go through that process. Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 12:41, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Sketch (software)

Hello Jinkinson. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sketch (software), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Probably not notable, but A7 does not apply to desktop software. Thank you. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 20:28, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have however PRODed it since it lacks notability. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 21:43, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User Pages that duplicate WP articles

Ways to improve We Will Not Harm You

Hi, I'm Akifumii. Jinkinson, thanks for creating We Will Not Harm You!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. If you could add a few more sections to this article, that would be great.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. AkifumiiTalk 22:44, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for Your Input

The recommendations in FAKEARTICLES specifically allow what I am doing. To avoid any misunderstanding of my intent, I added an explanation to my User Offit Talk page and will do the same as I create User pages for other projects. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SSEEGGilbert (talkcontribs) 02:23, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adopt a user suggestion

Hi there, I saw you were currently accepting adoptees. I was wondering if you'd be willing to adopt me? I do a lot of anti-vandal work as well as patrol new pages and I think that you adopting me would be a good idea. I've got this page watchlisted, so to keep the conversation in one place, please reply here. Cheers! --Lixxx235 (talk) 02:16, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sure. Ask me anything, just do it here because otherwise I probably won't know you've asked it. Jinkinson talk to me 02:31, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I guess could you review my edits? I'm not sure if I really need to get adopted anymore, because I got granted rollback rights and I'm pretty sure that means I haven't been making any inappropriate edits or anything. --Lixxx235 (talk) 00:40, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your speedy deletion of an article I created

Hello, your speedy deletion of an article I created is mentioned here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Milowent#Looking_at_deleted_article

You are personally misapplying and/or enforcing policies which punishes good faith editors. In my experience, Speedy deletion of copyrighted material is almost always brought to the attention of administrators by overzealous misguided editors who are ignorant of copyright law.
