London Buses route 181 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Grove Park and Lewisham stations, it is operated by London General.

History[edit]

Route 181 commenced operation on 27 October 1984 as a Monday to Saturday route between Lewisham and Lower Sydenham (Bell Green) replacing route 180, which continued to provide the Sunday service to Lower Sydenham. On 3 August 1985, route 181 was extended on Monday to Saturdays to Surrey Docks station replacing route P5 over this section. At the same time it was introduced on Sundays between Lewisham and Lower Sydenham replacing route 180, bringing the Sunday service into line with that on Monday to Saturday.[1]

The route was tendered with Metrobus taking over on 27 January 1996. Upon being re-tendered the route passed to Selkent on 17 March 20001, before going back to Metrobus on 18 March 2006.[1] In June 2014 it was included in the transfer of Metrobus' London operations to fellow Go-Ahead Group subsidiary London General. However, the vehicles used on the route continue to carry Metrobus branding.
