Revision as of 17:30, 28 October 2014
This is a list of Wii U software which either has been released or has been planned for release, physically on Wii U Optical Discs or for download from the Nintendo eShop.
Games
This is a list of retail and downloadable Wii U games released or planned for release physically on Wii U Optical Discs and/or for download on the Nintendo eShop.
The column "Exclusive" indicates whether the Wii U is the only platform on which the game is available. This does not include handheld game consoles or mobile phones which generally run a completely different version of the game under the same name. A value of Console for exclusivity means that, while a title may be available as an arcade game or on a personal computer operating system such as Microsoft Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X, it is not natively available on any video game console other than the Wii U. A value of Nintendo for exclusivity means that the game is only available on Nintendo video game consoles. The term Multiplatform means that the game has appeared on multiple platforms.
As of 2 October 2014[update], there are 457 games on this list.
- Exclusive = 120 (? at retail, ? download-only)
- Console exclusive = 105 (? at retail, ? download-only)
- Multiplatform = 174 (? at retail, ? download-only)
Nintendo Network
Nintendo Network is Nintendo's online service which provides online functionality for the Wii U. It provides the means for online multiplayer, leaderboards, downloadable content, voice chat and other online connectivity for compatible games.[437]
Off-TV Play
Off-TV Play is a feature of the Wii U. Similarly to most video game consoles, the Wii U uses a controller to manipulate an image on a television screen. The Wii U's unique feature is that its controller, the Wii U GamePad, has its own built-in screen for displaying images. It can display an entirely different image, or duplicate the television screen into the Wii U GamePad. Off-TV Play is the term used for when an entire game is played strictly on the controller, without the use of a television.[438][439]
Wii U Pro Controller
The Wii U Pro Controller is a secondary controller of the Wii U and, as such, some games allow its use in addition to the Wii U GamePad. Similarly to more traditional controllers, it features standard analogue sticks, face buttons, and triggers. Nintendo created it with the aim of attracting more "hardcore" gamers to make the Wii U more competitive with Sony and Microsoft's offerings.[440] Nintendo claims that the design of the Pro Controller is an “enhanced version” of the Classic Controller and "offers a richer experience."[441] Certain games with flexible control schemes, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Trine 2: Director's Cut, are also compatible with the Classic Controller. All Virtual Console games support the Wii U Pro Controller.
Wii MotionPlus
The Wii MotionPlus is an expansion device for the Wii Remote video game controller for the Wii that allows it to capture complex motion more accurately.
Wii Balance Board
The Wii Balance Board is a balance board accessory for the Wii and Wii U video game consoles. The board uses Bluetooth technology and contains four pressure sensors that are used to measure the user's center of balance—the location of the intersection between an imaginary line drawn vertically through the center of mass and the surface of the Balance Board—and weight.
Mii
A Mii is a digital avatar used in Nintendo's Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS gaming consoles. They allow users to capture a likeness (or a caricature) of themselves, other people, or invented characters. After creating one using the Mii Channel on a Wii or the Mii Maker application on a Nintendo 3DS or Wii U, Miis can be used as playable characters in various titles for each of the named consoles. The word "Mii" is often thought to be a portmanteau of "Wii" and "me."
Virtual Console
Virtual Console, sometimes abbreviated to VC, is a specialized section of the Wii U's Nintendo eShop online distribution service that allow users to purchase and download games which had been available on older video game consoles. The Virtual Console lineup on Wii U includes select titles originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System and NEC's TurboGrafx-16 (only available in Japan).
