Hi, I deleted File:WLAatVandA.svg and File talk:WLA@V&A.svg on Commons because the two files were blank. Your svg code was linking to images on your computer and so they could not be displayed. If you want to make an SVG, you should trace the images rather than include them directly. Pruneautalk 11:14, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

About archiving
[edit]My apologies for reverting you on that, but please see User talk:Ben MacDui#Archive, where we already went back and forth on the same thing. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:46, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- So you did - apologies I didn't see it. I only partially archived it and there seems to be a clear consensus developing - if you pardon the circularity! - in favour of consensus/70% but definitely not 30% or majority. Given the number of "partial support" comments I think we actually need a new proposal - care to help me draft one? AndrewRT(Talk) 22:50, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- To tell you the truth, I really have no expectation that the snowy ones are going to go any differently than they already have. I just want to get as many editors as possible weighing in on this particular point, and I think the most unbiased results will come from seeing all the options together. My advice would be to improve what we've got, not to start over from scratch. But I'll definitely lobby hard that we really fix up the one we've got, not just plug in poll results mindlessly, and I'm pretty confident we'll have agreement to do that.--Tryptofish (talk) 22:59, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

You do not understand the copyright situation at en.WS
[edit]I checked my email after the holiday to find two "GoogleAlerts" mentioning Wikisource. In them you are quoted by promoting the addition of materials that have unacceptable copyright status to the English Wikisource. You should have these quotes corrected if at all possible. The US does not recognize the rule of the shorter term and as Wikisource servers are in the US the copyright status of these items in the UK is more or less irrelevant. The items that you were promoting as recent UK copyright expirations can instead be added toWikilivres whose server is in Canada, a coutry that recognizes the rule of the shorter term. In the future, please do a little more legwork directly with the project you hope to promote before you start talking to the press.--BirgitteSB 19:56, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for commenting on this BirgitteSB - we recognise the complexity of international copyright law and would welcome working with you on this in the future if you can. Please let me know about the press coverage you have seen. The press release we sent out was mostly drafted by Charles Matthews, who is a regular contributor and admin on Wikisource. I am a regular contributor on Wikipedia and Commons, so I am aware of international copyright law but it was mostly Charles' work. Our press release is available at[1] and may be more useful than referring to the published story. We do refer to things becoming public domain in the UK, which is where that particular comment arose, and it was a press release relating to the UK. In retrospect we should have made more reference to US copyright law when talking about wikisource, and we'll do as correction as requested. You are right to say that wikisource uses US copyright law. However, I understand 1 January is still relevant for wiksource for items first published in the US after 1 January
19782003 or which were only published outside the US. Please correct me if I am wrong. AndrewRT(Talk) 11:10, 3 January 2010 (UTC)- Don't forget the effect of copyright restorations through the URAA... Lupo 12:00, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
- This is the[2] I saw. I don't know of any texts that the Jan 1st date is relevant for, although there must be some out there. It is much more likely to find old pictures that were never published until after 2003, than old texts. The URAA reference about why all the things which might have expired through non-renewal are still going to be under copyright in the US even though they became PD in the EU. Or is there something else I am forgetting?--BirgitteSB17:11, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello AndrewRT! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 6 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Thebiographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 523 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Community de-Adminship - finalization poll for the CDA proposal
[edit]After tolling up the votes in the revision proposals, it emerged that 5.4 had the most support, but elements of that support remained unclear, and various comments throughout the polls needed consideration.
A finalisation poll(intended, if possible, to be one last poll before finalising the CDA proposal) has been run to;
- gather opinion on the 'consensus margin' (what percentages, if any, have the most support) and
- ascertain whether there is support for a 'two-phase' poll at the eventual RfC (not far off now), where CDA will finally be put to the community. Matt Lewis (talk) 01:03, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:36, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for picking this up. I don't have any personal knowledge of this person, but I've done a simple search of the internet and found this:
- Niqash supports my order
- Iraq The Model Blog has the same
- US Army supports mine
- The UNDP, (andhere)on the other hand, has Mohammad first
Do you have any sources that could resolve the matter one way or another? Many thanks AndrewRT(Talk) 22:12, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

UK Community Notice - IRC meeting
[edit]Dear Wikipedian,
This is the first of what will hopefully be a regular notice to help bring together the UK community so that you can be involved in some amazing things. To kick things off, there will be a UK community IRC meeting at 1800 UTC, December 7, 2010 to discuss the future growth and developement of Wikimedia UK. Without huge community support and involvement, the chapter cannot be successful and to get the most out of it, get involved.
For information on the community IRC meeting please go here
More to come about:
- Wikipedia 10th Anniversary Events
- 1st Annual UK Wiki-conference
- Trustee interest meeting - an event for those community members with even just a fleeting interest in becoming trustees of Wikimedia UK.
Many Thanks

Added template for SuggestBot
[edit]Hi,
Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.
We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.
We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available onUser:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom(talk) 22:21, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Image making
[edit]Hey there Andrew! How have you been? I hope all is well.
I was wondering if you could help out with this. A constitutional referendum will be held soon in Egypt, and the image here describes what would follow either result. It's in Arabic, and I've been working with another editor to translate it to English. We've put that in annotations on the image's Commons page[5]. But I can't handle anything beyond Paint, and we want to create a completely new image in English. [edit]This help request has been moved from the original posting on Moto GP - see [6]. It's best to use {{helpme}} here, on your own user talk page. Cheers, Chzz ► 21:00, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
{{helpme}} This template doesn't seem to be working - putting information about Moto GP in the templates, see e.g. Hasan of Basra. Could someone look into this please? AndrewRT(Talk) 20:30, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have copied this to WP:VPT, but I'll leave the Helpme up here as well. JohnCD (talk) 20:56, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- What do you mean, about it not working? You don't seem to have edited Hasan_of_Basra? Please explain what the actual problem is. Thanks, Chzz ► 21:03, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- It seems to be a problem with Template:Muslim Saints. On its own page (in 'edit'), the data looks right. In test, it's become a Moto GP data template. Try it. Peridon (talk) 21:20, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- If you look at Hasan of Basra, the infobox shows an interest in Moto GP, which I doubt that reverend gentleman actuall had. If you try to edit Template:Muslim saints, you don't see anything about Moto GP - I don't know where it's coming from. It probably doesn't matter, except as a puzzle, because the template the article really needs is presumably Template:Muslim saints (small s). The one with a capital S was created by Imadjafar (talk), who has been working on the article. JohnCD (talk) 21:28, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- Small s gives a folded up section about Muslim saints - I think an infobox was wanted. Peridon (talk) 21:33, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have fixed the Hasan article, for the moment, by changing to the small-s template and moving it down to the bottom. It seems quite appropriate. The Large-S template is now not used anywhere and could be zapped, but I suggest we leave it (a) as an interesting technical problem (b) in case Imadjafar (talk), who hasn't edited for a few days, was actually trying to build a new version. As you say, maybe he was trying to build an infobox. I will leave him a note. JohnCD (talk) 21:36, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

- Many thanks for everyone's help with this. Yes - you're absolutely right the problem is with the other template - sorry if that caused confusion. Buganda
[edit]AndrewRT,
I am a native of Buganda (a Muganda). I and other members of my community (Baganda) are troubled with your decision to upload, into Wikipedia, a map of Buganda that shows the county of Bugerere (Kayunga) differently from other parts of Buganda.
The effort you put in creating your unofficial Buganda map concerns us because it could potentially be used to misinform the world that Bugerere (Kayunga) is a disputed part of Buganda. Indeed, your motivation is unclear to us since Bugerere (non-Baganda like to call it Kayunga) is an integral part of Buganda both under the Uganda national constitution and documented Buganda history.
If this was a genuine mistake and you have not anti-Buganda agenda, we kindly request that you correct the error by replacing the image you uploaded into Wikipedia with an accurate geographical map of Buganda.
Best regards,
Charles Mukasa — Preceding unsigned comment added by96.240.98.25 (talk) 19:40, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Mr Mukasa, I have no anti-Buganda agenda (or any particular knowledge of the topic), but my map was based on the evidence contained in this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buganda#Secession_of_Kayunga. If you have any other evidence that sets out the opposite, could you let me have a copy? Thanks AndrewRT(Talk) 00:40, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia/Wikimedia donation appeal
[edit]It would be great to have the option to gift memberships, or donate on behalf of someone and get some kind of certificate to give as eg a charitable Christmas present. I'm sure a lot of people would like that idea. (You were linked as treasurer on the UK page, hence I'm suggesting this to you)

Finance Minister
[edit]I checked the rules and you can get by with a 2x expansion for a BLP, but it says that the article must have been unsourced first. I think the 2x rule was added to encourage people to polish unsourced BLPs. Five days ago this article had 1100 characters and now has c. 2600 chars. So basically you'd need to double it again (quickly) to get to 1100x5 characters. Sorry if I misled you. Victuallers (talk) 15:59, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

MOTDs (This space for rent)
[edit]You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. Not sure where I should ask this question:
Would List of FTSE 100 company directors be considered notable? How does WP:N apply to lists generally?
Thanks
AndrewRT(Talk) 12:55, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- I'll put in even though I'm not sure. In my opinion, the directors making up the list would need to be notable in their own right, and one heck of a lot of them wouldn't be. Some directors are there for technical expertise, some for their names, and many (including those) to act as continuity in case of the MD shooting the DMD, and the chief technical director painting himself purple and picketing the House of Commons asking for home rule for Sheppey. Then you have people like Sir Gawain FitzBlogg who is on the board of six or seven companies (but no-one really knows why). Do you list him once, or under each company? And don't forget that there will be a high maintenance on the article -directors come and go as quickly as football managers. Just my opinions there - have a look at the essay WP:Viability of lists.Peridon (talk) 15:52, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- I notice that the essay uses 'viability' rather than 'notability'. This would get round my thoughts on notability for the contents, but leads me to ask how you plan to organise the list. Peridon (talk) 15:55, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed, notability guidelines don't apply to lists. You may want to look at WP:SALAT for the MOS guidelines. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 18:06, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
- Many thanks both - yes I ended up coming to a similar conclusion when looking through the guidance myself (particularly about each individal has to be notable themselves). Think I'll go about this a different way then! AndrewRT(Talk) 23:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
