Serine/threonine-protein kinase 19 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the STK19gene.[5][6][7]
This gene encodes a serine/threonine kinase which localizes predominantly to the nucleus. Its specific function is unknown; it is possible that phosphorylation of this protein is involved in transcriptional regulation. This gene localizes to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class III region on chromosome 6 and expresses two transcript variants.[7] The STK19 gene encodes a 29kDa protein that is tightly bound to chromatin in Hela cells. There is still debate as to whether this protein, when mutated, may be involved in the onset of NRAS melanomas, as the D89N mutation appears to be outside the coding region. [8]
