Route 305 commenced operating on 3 July 1993 between Edgware bus station and Colindale via Burnt Oak replacing part of route 292. On 4 December 1993, it was diverted at Burnt Oak to Kingsbury instead of Colindale.

Upon being re-tendered, the route passed from Metroline to Arriva The Shires on 2 September 2006 with Wright Cadet bodied VDL SB120s introduced.[1] When next tendered, Arriva The Shires successfully retained the route, with a new contract commencing on 31 August 2013.[2][3]
