Route 383 commenced operating on 25 July 1998 between Potters Bar and New Barnet stations replacing part of route 326. It was operated by Metroline's Potters Bar garage with Marshall bodied Dennis Darts.
Upon being re-tendered, it passed to Sullivan Buses' South Mimms garage on 26 July 2003 being withdrawn between Potters Bar and Barnet on the same date. When next tendered, it returned to Metroline, Potters Bar on 26 July 2008.
Upon being re-tendered, the route was awarded to Hertfordshire-based Uno, with the transfer to occur on 25 July 2015. The 383 will be Uno's first Transport for London route. Uno took over the route on 25 July 2015 with 4 new Enviro 200's
