Deletion sorting
[edit]Hello, TheChampionMan1234. I see that you suggested at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IDevice that the discussion is listed at "list of Apple Inc.-related deletion discussions" and " list of Hardware-related deletion discussions". As may have noticed, however, those links appear as red, since are no such pages currently on Wikipedia. There are deletion sorting pages at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Technology for the discussion of technology-related deletions and Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Business for business-related ones. Another user, Gene93k, has added the discussion to those lists. A list of deletion project sub-pages is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Compact. [edit]Hi TheChampionMan1234 just a heads up that I removed your prof template from this article which is the 3rd recreation of an article previously speedily deleted, and nominated it for speedy deletion. Best wishes Flat Out let's discuss it 13:04, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi there CHAMPION, AL from Portugal "here",
very aggressive indeed the template, accusing me of vandalism (even though i know your intentions are/were the best). And i even wrote a summary to avoid any misunderstandings, did me no good.
We at the football community have these guidelines, that say that players, in order to be "famous" at a club, need a number of league games and/or have to be internationals for a given country. The guys i removed meet none of the parameters OK?
Hopefully the misunderstanding has been solved, "whistle" if you have any more questions/doubts. Happy editing and all --AL (talk) 04:33, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. Yes i am sure i am of good faith, anon IP or this account, am not sure i understand the (purpose of the) question. I sometimes edit with this address (i am static, so i'm easily "caught" in case of wrongdoings) because when i log off i sometimes keep the ideas flowing, then edit anon lest i forget what i was trying to write. --AL (talk) 04:35, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
No additional thoughts, especially after calling me a vandal (please keep in mind the template said "If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia,", not "Your edits may constitute vandalism")? OK, i think i was polite and explained myself... --AL (talk) 04:43, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Also, looked more carefully into what constitutes blanking, did i blank the famous players section of CD Numancia B? Or did i leave one player, removing those who did not meet any criteria? Don't answer back if you don't feel like it, don't want to force you to do anything you do not wish. --AL (talk) 16:10, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Revert at CD Numancia B
[edit]Those players were removed due to them not meeting the criteria for inclusion, which was explained in Always Learning's edit summary. Although I think it would probably be best for this to be set out in the article itself, for clarity. Mattythewhite (talk) 20:30, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]I have granted rollback rights to your account. RFD Nominations do not impress
[edit]Hi, Champion
The most important thing in nominating something for deletion is to impress your audience with an impressive nomination text that is short, smart and convincing. "Per below" is none of these. If I were you, I'd spent some time working on it. It can improve your chances a lot.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 11:28, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
relavant
[edit]You should really learn how to spell "relevant". :)
Thanks for all your contributions at RfD: at least one other editor is glad of them. So this, really, is just by way of thanks. We shan't always agree but your wise and thoughtful contributions are noticed by at least one other editor.
Have a pint on me when you get the chance. Si Trew (talk) 09:23, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Redirects for deletion
[edit]It's worth spending some time reading Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion in particular Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion#When should we delete a redirect?. The lead of that section concludes with the sentence "Therefore consider the deletion only of either really harmful redirects or of very recent ones." This is a good rule to bear in mind.
All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 00:55, 31 May 2014 (UTC).
- Hi, I remind you of the above. Discussing RfD's for harmless redirects wastes volunteer time, including yours. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 12:49, 11 June 2014 (UTC).
- But I understand that redirects in languages not relevant to the target should be deleted, and you're like the only one voting Keep when I nominate one, no offence meant here, but I hope you understand the policy. TheChampionMan1234 01:59, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- PS. see Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2014_May_12#Seupein, such foreign redirects are considered harmful to some extent. Thanks. TheChampionMan1234 02:12, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

I understand. However it is not policy that these redirects be deleted, which is why I am !voting keep.
Let's look at Scott's claims of harm:
- its continued existence encourages the creation of yet more similarly mangled redirects
No evidence for this.
- cluttering search results
How does this follow? Which search results? We can mark the redirect "Unprintworthy".
- creating maintenance cost.
I have explicitly demonstrated that most of these redirects have never needed human editing - they have zero maintenance cost over 9 years! Until they are nominated for deletion, then they absorb our valuable time.
Again, it's the nature of the beast that people who worry about redirects end up at RfD, but really 99.99% of redirects are best left alone, and most of the rest should be re-targeted. Even those that should be deleted mostly fall under WP:CSD - and the benefit of deleting them is generally minuscule. In my opinion improving one sentence in a reasonably popular article is worth 50 RfDs.
All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 02:32, 12 June 2014 (UTC).
- Interestingly, if it has been asked that who is willing to participate on the deletion of redirect, you wouldn't see even a few people having their hands up. Redirects are generally assumed to be "non-controversial", you may be wasting your time if you want to nominate them for deletion and with these redirects you surely will. Nomination of MASwings Flight 3002 for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article MASwings Flight 3002 is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MASwings Flight 3002 until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

[edit]I have no idea why you left a miscellany for deletion notice at the top of Chiang Kai-shek, but you must be joking, so I removed it. Try not to do this sort of thing again, since it's a little confusing and totally unhelpful. - Metal lunchbox (talk) 04:58, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Metal.lunchbox: Sorry, I meant to nominate a redirect page, whose target was Chiang Kai-shek, for RfD, blame Twinkle for the mistake. - TheChampionMan1234 05:34, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- That makes sense. I was so confused. - Metal lunchbox (talk) 09:48, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
- Indeed. Deleting the Chiang Kai-shek article is a proposal so nonsensical it leaves one gibbering in astonishment. Deleting this particular redirect, though, based on a spelling of the name I'd never seen nor could have imagined, is something I might be persuaded to support. Glad to hear you meant the latter --Yaush (talk) 14:41, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
RfD nominations
[edit]When nominating multiple redirects for deletion at RfD it is required that all the listed redirects be individually tagged for deletion. In most circumstances you also need to inform the redirect's creator (you only need to notify them once per discussion, but if they created redirects that are being discussed in separate nominations - even on the same day - you need to notify them about all of them). Any redirects that are not tagged should not be deleted or retargeted, regardless of the consensus in the discussion, so you waste everybody's time. Thryduulf (talk) 08:48, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Tu quoquo
[edit]Go careful with Geo I'd suggest – you are a sterling editor and he is quite new so I think this is WP:NEWBIES. We know all the slang and abbreviations etc.
THanks for all your sterling work at RfD and I see elsewhere. I got a lovely reference for Pure white trash from O. Henry's short stories yesterday, 1907, which I was rereading. I've added it to White trash as a reference – and perhaps surprisingly it refers to a man, not a woman.
My two drugs are booze and cigarettes, would it possibly be (with the "Pure") a slang term for cocaine)? Not the sense O. Henry meant it, but is it drugs slang now? Drugs slang tends to change incredibly quickly so is seldom recorded. Eric Partridge was the master of it, but he died before I was born. But that is earlier than any dictionary has listed, by about 100 years. (1907, earliest ref I can find in dictionaries was about 2001).:
- Cocaine in English dictionaries is often spelt with a diaresis above the I, which is an anachronism anyway as it was never spelt that way but someone decided to add it at some point. It is not spelt that way in French, for example. Analogies would be caffeine, theine, and anything ending in -ine, such as bromine and Tolkine, that gives you an addiction to bad films and books about magic and stuff. Chuckcing that in a search engine gave me J. R. R. Tolkien (I would have thought Tolkien would be more obvious, but that is R to there). saccharine goes where you would expect: sugar for dieting ladies. (Joke). But I think the -ine formation was essentially invented by a chemical company, deliberately not naming which. Flourine, Chlorine etc are unrelated to these neologisms.
- As I say, I don't take it or anything else except the legal destructive stuff! But as you know I am a bit of a cunning linguist. Si Trew (talk) 10:02, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Mac OS versus Mac OS X
[edit]The only relation these two operating systems have is marketing. Otherwise, one is entirely Macintosh-specific, and the other is UNIX. They have utterly different front-ends, utterly different back ends, and have nothing in common but part of their names and the fact that they were produced by Apple. - Denimadept (talk) 19:23, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Denimadept: What do you mean by "Macintosh-specific"? They were both designed for Macintosh computers. And I understand how OS X is Unix-based. --- TheChampionMan1234 00:16, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- OS X is based on a kernel called "Darwin". Darwin can run on other computers. It is not Macintosh-specific. Regardless, they are NOT anything like the same operating system. OS X came from NeXT, and as far as I know, shared no code base with the previous OS. - Denimadept (talk) 17:23, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Denimadept:Its predecessors absolutely CAN run on otther hardware. see Macintosh clone. - TheChampionMan1234 23:10, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Relisting XfD discussions
[edit]Firstly you should not be relisting discussions that you have started, nor should you be relisting discussions to which you have contributed. XfD discussions are should only be relisted when an uninvolved user assess that the discussion has not reached a consensus and believes that a relisting has to potential to allow one to be reached. Relisting discussions you are involved with may be seen as gaming the system in an attempt to get the result you would like to see. If a discussion is still outstanding after the usual period it is far better to ask at WP:AN/RFC for an uninvolved person to come and close it. I have previously asked you to refrain from resliting your own discussions (inline with an RfD discussion where you did just that), continuing when asked not to do something is not good behaviour.
Secondly, when you do relist discussions, it is important that you add {{subst:reslist}} or {{subst:relist|comment}} after the last comment made before relisting. This makes the relisting transparent to everyone and aids in following the discussion. Thryduulf (talk) 10:51, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Hangul syllable redirect templates
[edit]I was about to start tagging the Hangul syllable redirects when I saw that you had tagged a few as {{R from alternative language|ko}}
. This is inconsistent with existing language-tagging practice. When a redirect is from a word that happens to be one character long, e.g. 조, it is appropriate to use {{R from alternative language}}, but when the target is about the character itself (or the script or language), the character is not really in any language at all. So I will remove those templates. Gorobay (talk) 03:23, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Gorobay: Well we have 粥, for example. And Korean is the only language that uses Hangul syllables, so I see no problem with that. --- TheChampionMan1234 07:24, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
- 粥’s target is about the referent of the word “粥”, not the character ⟨粥⟩, so language templates are appropriate. 갂’s target does not use 갂 as a referring expression but as a meaningless character. In general, a character needs context to have a language. That these characters happen to be used by only one language shouldn’t override the general principle.
