Suggestions

List new suggestions here, under the date the article was created or expanded (not the date you submit it here), with the newest dates at the top. If a suitable image is available, place it immediately before the suggestion. Any user may nominate a DYK suggestion; self-nominations are permitted and encouraged.

Remember:

• Proposed articles should:
• not be marked as stubs;
• contain more than 1,500 characters (around 1.5 kilobytes) in main body text (ignoring infoboxes, categories, references, lists, and tables); This is a suggestion, not a firm rule; it is rather silly to oppose an article solely because it is 1490 characters in length.
• cite their sources (these sources should be properly labelled; that is, not under an "External links" header); and
• be no more than five days old (former redirects, stubs, or other short articles that have been expanded fivefold or more within the last five days are acceptable).
• Articles on living individuals - these must be carefully checked to ensure that no unsourced or poorly sourced negative material is included. Articles and hooks which focus on negative aspects of living individuals should be avoided.
• Articles with good references and citations are preferred.
• To count the number of characters in a piece of text, you will need to use a free website like this, or an external software program that has a character-counting feature. For example, if you are using Microsoft Word, select the text from the article page (or, in the case of "Did you know" nominations, this Talk page) – not the edit page containing Wikitext – then copy and paste it into a blank document. Click "Tools", then "Word Count", and note the "Characters (with spaces)" figure. Other word processing programs may have a similar feature. (The character counts indicated on "Revision history" pages are not accurate for DYK purposes as they include categories, infoboxes and similar text in articles, and comments and signatures in hooks on this page.)
• Suggested facts (the 'hook') should be:
• interesting to draw in a variety of readers,
• short and concise (fewer than about 200 characters, including spaces),
• neutral,
• definite facts that are mentioned in the article, and
• preferably cited in the article with an inline citation.
• Suggested pictures should be:
• suitably and freely (PD, GFDL, CC etc) licensed (NOT fair use) because the main page can only have freely-licensed pictures;
• attractive and interesting, even at a very small (100px-wide) resolution;
• already in the article; and
• relevant to the article.
• formatted as and placed directly above the suggested fact.
• Proposed lists should have two characteristics to be considered for DYK: (i) be a compilation of entries that are unlikely to have ever been compiled anywhere else (e.g. List of architectural vaults), and (ii) have 1,500+ character non-stub text that brings out interesting, relational, and referenced facts from the compiled list that may not otherwise be obvious but for the compilation.
• Please sign the nomination with the create/expand date and the name of the creator(s) or creator and nominator, such as:
• *...that (text)? -- July 19, 2007 new article by User; Nom by ~~~~
• *...that (text)? -- July 19, 2007 new article self-nom by ~~~~

• *...that (text)? -- Article expanded fivefold on July 19, 2007 by User and ~~~~
• Please check back for comments on your nomination. Responding to reasonable objections will help ensure that your article is listed.
• If you nominate someone else's article, you can use to notify them. Usage: Thanks, ~~~~

Why is that unusual?--Carabinieri (talk) 00:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it was because what if it being a programme originally on BBC Radio, you would expect it to be adapted on BBC television, not ITV. ISD (talk) 10:03, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
• Just an observation, but as someone not completely familiar with the three people, what is the connection between them? As worded, it seems a bit random (no offense intended at all). Is there something unique about this King having given land to someone? That was a fairly common thing during that time period. Is there something special about Earl Odda that could be mentioned? ArielGold 02:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
• Oh, of course! I was just offering my opinion as I was reading through the entries, you don't have to take my advice. :o) Any other hook, just suggest it below here as an alternate. I tried to think of one but couldn't, lol. ArielGold 10:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can the sexual material be toned down for the general audience that visits the Main Page? This is rather graphic. --74.13.128.204 (talk) 02:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If needed sure. There are plenty of words to switch out to address that concern. I'm working on another project but will try to find some more PG choices when I have some time. The words are from a quote but for DYK purposes we can certainly use more clinical and scientific terms. Benjiboi 03:16, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the "watersports" would probably be the easiest to remove but there should still be some "example" in the hook so that readers know what the article is going to cover. How about the alternative below... AgneCheese/Wine 03:21, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need a better hook that doesn't simply repeat the title of the book in other words. --74.13.126.161 (talk) 05:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if owing to this difference in versions - [1] - the article qualifies for DYK? Thank you, K a r n a (talk) 00:28, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It does not. Not a five-fold expansion.--Carabinieri (talk) 20:07, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
• somehow, the hook is more interesting as a DYK about cinderella stamps. Sorry that I don't understand the currently worded hook. DYK that --- is a blue stamp? DYK that --- is a stamp denominated as 50 cents? DYK that --- is a cinderella stamp? Don't all stamps have a category that you can place them in? Again, I know little about postage stamps but the hook seems to be simple categorisation? Mrs.EasterBunny (talk) 16:46, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as the Cinderella Stamps will tell you, it is a bit different from Postage Stamp.Although they look similar, their purpose is more for local costs and the stamps themselves are usually very notable and rare. This one is especially so because, unlike most cinderellas, they have both name of the intended government they were printed for(Azad Hind), as well as the fact that they have their values printed on them, and are in addition deemed normal Postal stamps by India Post, which makes them quite unusual.
Alternate hook...that unlike most Cinderella stamps, the ten Azad Hind Stamps have both the name of the country as well as the value printed on them?Rueben lys (talk) 19:35, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Alt alt hook...that although the Azad Hind Stamps are deemed Cinderella stamps, the Indian Postal department deems them postage stamps? Rueben lys (talk) 19:40, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I managed to read the article. It told me very little that I couldnt find at the excelent Powderfinger article. I doubt there are 1500 characters of genuine article here... does this undermine the band's notability? Victuallers (talk) 18:52, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Other than infobox and other ancillary information, I don't know what you're talking about. The music video, release and lead info are all unique to this article. The infomation in the Powderfinger article was lifted from this (though, by me, but was contributed second after creating this article). --lincalinca 06:45, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not uncommon for politicians in a democracy to lose a re-election after holding a seat in the legislature for many years. --74.13.126.161 (talk) 05:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
