Suggestions

List new suggestions here, under the date the article was created or expanded (not the date you submit it here), with the newest dates at the top. If there's a suitable image, place it after the suggestion. Any user may nominate a DYK suggestion. Also, self-nominations are permitted and encouraged.

Remember:

  • Proposed articles should be over 1,500 characters in main body text (ignoring infoboxes, categories, references, lists, and tables), cite sources (these sources should be properly labelled, that is, not under an "External links" header), be no more than five days old (unless it was under 1,500 characters, and has been expanded fivefold or more within the last five days), and should not be marked as stubs. Articles with good references and citations are preferred to those without.
  • To count the number of characters in a piece of text, you will need to use a free website like [1], or an external software program that has a character-counting feature. For example, if you are using Microsoft Word, select the text from the article page (or, in the case of "Did you know" nominations, this Talk page) – not the edit page containing Wikitext – then copy and paste it into a blank document. Click "Tools", then "Word Count", and note the "Characters (with spaces)" figure. Other word processing programs may have a similar feature. (Note that the character counts indicated on "Revision history" pages are not accurate for DYK purposes as they include categories, infoboxes and similar text in articles, and comments and signatures in hooks on this page.)
  • Suggested facts should be:
    • Interesting to draw in a variety of readers around the world.
    • Short and pithy (under about 200 characters).
    • Neutral.
    • Definite facts, mentioned in the article.
  • Suggested pictures should be:
    • Suitably freely (PD, GFDL, CC etc) licensed (NOT fair use) as the main page by policy can only have freely-licensed pictures.
    • Attractive and interesting, even at a very small (100px-wide) resolution.
    • Already in the article.
    • Relevant to the article.
  • Proposed lists should have two things to be considered for DYK: (i) be a compilation of entries that are unlikely to have ever been compiled anywhere else (e.g. List of architectural vaults) and (ii) have non-stub text that brings out interesting relational facts from the compiled list that may not otherwise be obvious but for the compilation.
  • Please check back for comments on your nomination. Your entry may miss out on the front page if you don't respond to reasonable objections.
  • If you nominate someone else's article, you can use {{subst:DYKNom}} to notify them. Usage: {{subst:DYKNom|Article name|November 1}} Thanks, ~~~~

Either would be fine with me, D. Recorder 03:38, 28 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rewording needed -- you mean that Fort Antes was just one of two forts in the West Branch Valley to survive (frontier forts elsewhere, such as Fort Boonesborough and Fort Randolph, also survived such attacks in 1778). Also, it's a bit odd to call it a "British" attack, since it was presumably attacked by Indians and Loyalists. How about this simpler wording:
I agree with the rewording. Thanks! Dincher 21:55, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Turns out there's an existing article on Weir, but not cited, not 1500 words. Going to combine the two and re-offer it up as a significant expansion.~ (The Rebel At) ~ 01:33, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
