The Moto E is an Android smartphone developed and manufactured by Motorola Mobility.[1] It was launched on May 13, 2014 and is available without a phone contract for 6,999 (US$84) in India, for £89 in the United Kingdom, and for $129 in the United States.[2][1][3]

Specifications

The phone features a 4.3 inch LCD capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 960 by 540 pixels. It runs on Google's Android Kitkat 4.4 operating system and has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It features a 5 Megapixel primary camera without flash and no secondary camera. It comes with 4 GB of internal memory and unlike its predecessors the Moto G and the Moto X, has a memory card slot for expansion upto 32 GB.[1][3][4]

The Moto E comes with a 1,980 mAh lithium-ion battery that is expected to last 24 hours with mixed usage.[2] It comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 with scratch protection that is water and smudge proof.[1][5]

The Moto E is a dual SIM phone and the first of the series to feature a memory card slot.[6]

Release

The Moto E was released on the 13th of May, 2014 in India, the United States and the United Kingdom. In India, it is available exclusively via online retailer Flipkart.com, who was earlier the sole retailer for the Moto G and Moto X.[7] Flipkart offered discounts to customers on covers, as well as a free microSD card and ebooks worth 1000 to customers purchasing the phone on the inaugural day.[6]

Motorola simultaneously launched a campaign titled Goodbye Dumb Phone to highlight the features of the phone and promote it.[8]

Along with it's two predecessors the Moto X and Moto G, it was released without a phone contract in several international markets.[9]

Reception

The Verge praised the shockingly cheap price and surprisingly good performance of the Moto E.[10]
