UFC 97: Redemption, not to be confused with UFC 17: Redemption, is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on April 18, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Quebec Athletic Commission Controversy
On February 12, 2009, reports surfaced that the Quebec Athletic Commission's (QAC) request for a set of rule changes that differ from the Unified Rules of MMA has put the event at risk from taking place.[10] The current proposed rule changes are the disallowing of elbow and knee strikes, smaller cage, as well as stopping the fight when a fighter gets knocked down.[10][11] UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner has stated that it is "too soon" to know how this new development would affect UFC 97. He did state that the UFC is aware of the issue and they are going to "make it work".[12]
To date, the QAC has followed the Unified Rules, but since laws differ by city, state, or province, a commission can insist on the usage of its own rules.[13]
