UFC 106: Lesnar vs. Carwin is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on November 21, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.[1]
Background
It was announced on September 6, 2009 that Dennis Hallman would face John Howard at this event.[2] On September 10, 2009 it was confirmed that the bout would take place at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Finale.[3]
A previously announced bout between Kenny Florian and Clay Guida has been moved to UFC 107.[4][5] MMAWeekly.com had reported that Tom Lawlor would fight on the card but he has been moved to UFC Fight Night 20.[6]
Tito Ortiz was originally scheduled to fight Mark Coleman. However, in an October 5, 2009 twitter post, Ortiz reported that the fight was now off, and it later became known that Coleman was suffering from a knee injury. The UFC has confirmed Forrest Griffin will now step in to face Ortiz.[7]
Jon Fitch was originally set to fight Ricardo Almeida but Almeida was forced off the card with a knee injury. Fitch will now fight Thiago Alves at UFC 107[8]
On October 26, UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar pulled out of his fight against Shane Carwin due to a "severe flu".[9]
