UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on Sunday, February 21, 2010 in Sydney, Australia at the Acer Arena.[1] The event will mark the UFC's first trip to Australia. The main card takes place at 2:00 pm in Sydney to cater to the U.S timezone, meaning that this event takes place at the regular U.S. time.

Background

The main event of UFC 110 will be a heavyweight bout between Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez.[2]

The long expected bout between Yoshihiro Akiyama and Wanderlei Silva[3] will not take place at this event. Instead, Silva will face Michael Bisping.[4]

A bout between Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen which was expected to take place on this card was moved to UFC 109.[5] A bout between Keith Jardine and Rich Franklin was being discussed.[6] Jardine will instead fight the Ultimate Fighter 8 Winner Ryan Bader.

Chris Lytle was expected to face Dong Hyun Kim,[7] but Kim has been forced off the card with an injury.[8] Brian Foster will step in to fight Lytle.

The bout between Elvis Sinosic and Chris Haseman will be the first ever all-Australian bout to take place in the UFC.[9]

Tickets for the event sold out on the first day they were available to the general public.[10] It was the second fastest sellout of an event in the history of the UFC, behind UFC 83.[11] UFC 110 will be aired live on Australian free-to-air sports channel ONE HD.[12]
