UFC 118 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on August 28, 2010 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.[1]. The third UFC fan Expo is also expected to coincide with this event [2]
Background
UFC President Dana White announced via Twitter that the UFC would have either UFC 117 or UFC 118 in Boston and with UFC 117 being confirmed three weeks prior in Oakland, California, it is presumed this will be 118. Alessio Sakara and Nate Marquardt were originally set to face each other at UFC 116, but the fight was cancelled due to the death of Sakara's father. Strangely, they are both fighting on this card, but with different opponents.
White confirmed on ESPN MMA Live on May 27th that Randy Couture and James Toney will indeed fight at UFC 118. No further details were announced. White was asked on the show: "How close are you to confirming this fight?" To which White replied "I think we just did!"
Bouts currently rumored to be in the works for the event include:
- Joe Lauzon vs. Terry Etim[3]
- Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares[4]
- Andre Winner vs. Nik Lentz[5]
- Marcus Davis vs. Nate Diaz[6]
- Mike Pierce vs. Amilcar Alves[7]
