UFC 151: Jones vs. Henderson was an upcoming UFC event. It was scheduled for September 1, 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and was headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout, between champion Jon Jones and former two-time PRIDE and Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson.[1] Dana White announced via a press conference that UFC 151 would be the first event in the organisation's history to be cancelled. The challenger Dan Henderson had a partial rupture of the MCL and had to withdraw from the bout.

Background

The fight between Thiago Tavares and Dennis Hallman was originally scheduled to take place at UFC 150, but was moved to this event on July 12, 2012.[2]

Josh Koscheck was expected to face Jake Ellenberger, but pulled out of the bout, citing a back injury.[3] He was replaced by returning veteran Jay Hieron.[4] Hieron and Ellenberger have fought before. It was Jay Hieron handed Jake Ellenberger his first career loss on June 3 ,2006 at the IFL - Championship 2006.

Main event background

On August 23rd, Dana White announced Dan Henderson was injured. Dana White confirmed that Jones would face Lyoto Machida at UFC 152.[5]
