    1948 Arab–Israeli War (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Rational discussion on the talk page at the moment, and at least one error that all agree needs changing. The admin who applied full protection says on their talk page that they have retired from WP. Itsmejudith (talk) 22:06, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    • User:King of Hearts appears to be the protecting admin digging through the messy logs, and still active. Have you discussed this with him? Courcelles 03:20, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I thought it was User:Gwickwire, who made a note on the talkpage in January of this year. But can we now move to unprotection? If an edit war ensues I will ask for protection again. Itsmejudith (talk) 08:48, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I've dropped it down to semi; let's see if things have improved. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:05, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, the issue wasn't edit warring, it was sockpuppetry. A lot of sockpuppetry. From 2012-04-08 and 2013-01-10, 32% of the edits were by socks. For edits by editors/IPs with less than 500 edits, 69% were by socks.(analysis results). Sean.hoyland - talk 18:23, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    Abiogenesis (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – The page history is full of "new contributors", obviously with this page as their only target article, and with similar-looking user pages. It is all very confusing, but a semi lasting a few months is what I recommend, possibly with a revert to before this all started (last year?). Fama Clamosa (talk) 18:19, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A "SEMI" won't do it because these creationists are using registered accounts. Full protection would be good. Reverting to before all this started is what I'm trying to do. 131.142.52.96 (talk) 18:36, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fama is trying to remove quotes such as "citation needed". Surely citations are better than ignorance! SpazAbiogenesis (talk) 19:22, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Removal of a prod isn't necessarily disruption. Assuming good faith, it could mean that it is contested. Since then, the AfD tag has only been removed once, which I wouldn't consider significant disruption to yield protection. Also, (optimistically) I think it would be good to leave it unprotected, in the hopes that an IP could help contribute to the article and add some references. Semi-protection. French IPs (including 88.161.58.50) are repeardly trying to add new findings, or even an alleged proof of this mathematical problem, by some (surprise!) French "consultant" named Thierno M. Sow. Even if it was credible (which, by all chances, it is not), it would violate WP:OR and therefore has repeatedly been deleted. Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. - This appears to be spread out over a longer time frame than protection would be effective in mitigating (as the IPs would likely just continue once the protection expired and this isn't enough to justify locking the article indefinitely).
