Suggestions

List new suggestions here, under the date the article was created or expanded (not the date you submit it here), with the newest dates at the top. If a suitable image is available, place it immediately before the suggestion. Any user may nominate a DYK suggestion; self-nominations are permitted and encouraged.

Remember:

• Proposed articles should:
• not be marked as stubs;
• contain more than 1,500 characters (around 1.5 kilobytes) in main body text (ignoring infoboxes, categories, references, lists, and tables); This is a suggestion, not a firm rule; it is rather silly to oppose an article solely because it is 1490 characters in length.
• cite their sources (these sources should be properly labelled; that is, not under an "External links" header); and
• be no more than five days old (former redirects, stubs, or other short articles that have been expanded fivefold or more within the last five days are acceptable).
• Articles on living individuals - these must be carefully checked to ensure that no unsourced or poorly sourced negative material is included. Articles and hooks which focus on negative aspects of living individuals should be avoided.
• Articles with good references and citations are preferred.
• To count the number of characters in a piece of text, you will need to use a free website like this, or an external software program that has a character-counting feature. For example, if you are using Microsoft Word, select the text from the article page (or, in the case of "Did you know" nominations, this Talk page) – not the edit page containing Wikitext – then copy and paste it into a blank document. Click "Tools", then "Word Count", and note the "Characters (with spaces)" figure. Other word processing programs may have a similar feature. (The character counts indicated on "Revision history" pages are not accurate for DYK purposes as they include categories, infoboxes and similar text in articles, and comments and signatures in hooks on this page.)
• Suggested facts (the 'hook') should be:
• interesting to draw in a variety of readers,
• short and concise (fewer than about 200 characters, including spaces),
• neutral,
• definite facts that are mentioned in the article, and
• preferably cited in the article with an inline citation.
• Suggested pictures should be:
• suitably and freely (PD, GFDL, CC etc) licensed (NOT fair use) because the main page can only have freely-licensed pictures;
• attractive and interesting, even at a very small (100px-wide) resolution;
• already in the article; and
• relevant to the article.
• formatted as and placed directly above the suggested fact.
• Proposed lists should have two characteristics to be considered for DYK: (i) be a compilation of entries that are unlikely to have ever been compiled anywhere else (e.g. List of architectural vaults), and (ii) have 1,500+ character non-stub text that brings out interesting, relational, and referenced facts from the compiled list that may not otherwise be obvious but for the compilation.
• Please sign the nomination with the create/expand date and the name of the creator(s) or creator and nominator, such as:
• *...that (text)? -- July 19, 2007 new article by User; Nom by ~~~~
• *...that (text)? -- July 19, 2007 new article self-nom by ~~~~

• *...that (text)? -- Article expanded fivefold on July 19, 2007 by User and ~~~~
• Please check back for comments on your nomination. Responding to reasonable objections will help ensure that your article is listed.
• If you nominate someone else's article, you can use to notify them. Usage: Thanks, ~~~~

"grapes like" --> "grapes such as"? --74.14.16.242 (talk) 23:51, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That does flow better. Change made. AgneCheese/Wine 15:37, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Link is odd. Australia links to Australian wine ... which, I think, is grown in Australia. If the winewakers are Australian then link to Australia ... if they are trying to grow "Australian wine" in Vietnam, then thats a whole new hook. Victuallers (talk) 14:47, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Typically when we are linking to articles about a collective nationality of winemakers we link to that country's wine article. This is mostly because there is no Australian winemaker article and the country wine article will best convey the general background and winemaking philosophy that the certain group of winemakers will have. I can see your point of confusion but I'm not sure as the best way to word it. Just linking to Australia wouldn't be helpful because that tells the reader nothing about the winemaking philosophy that these winemakers would be bringing to the table. But then while that it relevant in understanding that part of the article, I suppose that context is not really needed for a DYK nom. AgneCheese/Wine 15:37, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Added some wikilinks. Please try to expand and add that a hundred or two hundred characters to meet the requirements. Thanks. --74.14.16.242 (talk) 23:51, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's a guideline, not a requirement. And I've done my damndest to make this a decent article, there's simply not info out there from 1896. :-( So I think 1300 will do. :-) --Maxim(talk) 01:32, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's merely a guideline, but other nominated articles that fit the requirements will be used ahead of yours. You still have days to expand, if you can. --74.13.130.57 (talk) 05:57, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

• Very nice article. Inclusion of these 3 libraries seems to be the Wikipedia editor's own opinion. Is this original research? There is a link to greenlibraries.org but the link doesn't work now (temporarily off-line?). The best alt hook I can think of is DYK...that the concept of green libraries was coined to describe environmentally conscious library building design? Mrs.EasterBunny (talk) 18:06, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How about "...are examples of Green Libraries?" ? Briefly explaining in the hook what Green Libraries are would be good, too. --PFHLai (talk) 22:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

• The hook is has a reference. The reference is almost 60 years old. This was before the large land reclaimations in Dubai (Palm City) and Hong Kong. San Francisco also had large sections of the bay filled. If this hook is true, that's good! If it's not accurate, that's bad for the main page. What should we do? Research, anyone?Mrs.EasterBunny (talk) 23:34, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
• Good question. That's exactly why I said "may" constitute (here and in the article). We could just say "up to that time" instead of "in history". Or we could find a different hook, but I think this is the single most interesting hook, especially because it is about the whole broad topic rather than about one of the 60 or so regrading projects. - Jmabel | Talk 09:06, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am for hook improvement, not "bad hook, throw it in the trash along with the hard work of others". Consider wording it so that the re-grade was the largest or one of the largest re-grading project. Mrs.EasterBunny (talk) 18:10, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"considered a major contribution": WP:PEACOCK? --74.14.19.109 (talk) 16:40, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the article states that An Apology for Poetry is the most important contribution to Renaissance literary theory. Since it's a good quality article from a veteran contributor, there is little reason to doubt that the statement is based on the supplied references, but I toned it down a little in any case. Gatoclass (talk) 12:07, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The hook needs to mention that it is referring to the United States. The word "Retirement" after "Benefits" doesn't seem to belong there to me. Besides, the article is based entirely on primary sources. Since it's just an interpretation of laws and so on, I think it borders on original research, but I'll leave that up to others.--Carabinieri (talk) 15:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The word "Retirement" afterwards was a pasting error, I thought I deleted it. But it's hardly OR, it's actually mainly from secondary sources, which is SSA's interpretation.KV(Talk) 15:20, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

• Is this just one textbook's idea? How about two phases? 1. Think, 2. Do? I am nt trying to be too critical but one textbook said reading is a 3 step process, 1. read, 2. review, 3. recite. Not everyone reads like that so you can't say "reading is a 3 step process". Is an alt hook...DYK...that a textbook has formulated a five step nursing process as a suggested care plan? Note that the references given in the article are 2 books written by the SAME author. Archtransit (talk) 17:16, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
