Visa requirements for Republic of China (Taiwan) citizens are visa requirements for those traveling on a Republic of China (Taiwan) passport. ROC passport holders can be divided into those who hold Household registration, and thus right of abode in Taiwan.,[1] (i.e. "registered nationals") and those who do not ("unregistered nationals"). In the case they hold the registration, they are entitled to a ROC Identity Card and the number of that card is printed in the passport. Several countries and territories have more favorable visa regimes for those holding passports with this identity card number. Unregistered nationals who use the ROC passport to enter Taiwan require an entry permit and are subject to immigration controls. In this article the visa requirements for ROC passports containing an identity card number are discussed.

Currently, the ROC government has given an official tally of 135 countries and territories that grant visa-free or visa-on-arrival privileges to its citizens. However, gathering information from varied sources, the list below contains around 155 entries.

Traveling to the USA

The US B1/B2 visa refusal rate of ROC passport was 1.9% in the fiscal year of 2011,[24] far lower than the 10% requirement for the Visa Waiver Program. The lower rate of declined US B1/B2 visa applications does not automatically qualify the country for the visa waiver program. Every country must pass other regulations set by US government, "To be admitted to the VWP, a country must meet various security and other requirements, such as enhanced law enforcement and security-related data sharing with the United States and timely reporting of both blank and issued lost and stolen passports. VWP members are also required to maintain high counter terrorism, law enforcement, border control, and document security standards."[25] On Dec 22, 2011, the State Department announced Taiwan was a candidate for entry into the Visa Waiver Program.[26]
