As of January 2012, holders of the ordinary Romanian passport for travel abroad who are traveling for tourism can visit 182 countries and territories, as follows:

- 132 countries or territories visa free, freedom of movement or no controls

- 8 countries or territories with a visa available on arrival free of charge

- 37 countries or territories by paying for a visa available on arrival and/or by paying a departure fee

- 5 countries or territories by getting a free electronic visa.

Romanian citizens without a passport can travel with their identity card in 58 countries or territories.
