I noticed a batch of edits from you on the East Ramapo Central School District page. I have many friends there and I am aware of the local political situation there. I was particularly surprised to find that many edits to the page about the takeover of the School Board by the Hassidic community, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=East_Ramapo_Central_School_District&diff=737892280&oldid=253509282, have been actively reverted. At this time, there is absolutely no mention of the situation in that district. As an recurring donor to Wikipedia, I'm saddened to see that such biased information curation still occurs on our pages, and even on pages that have clearly had attention from Wikipedia admins.
I intend to restore some of these edits based on first-hand knowledge of the situation at hand, but I do have a few questions in light of the above: 1. Do I need to formally request arbitration when the edit will be, once again, undone, or is this page already on some watchlist. 2. Is a more far-reaching policy enhancement in order on Wikipedia? Facts supported by multiple edits have been consistently and aggressively edited out of this page, and too easily so. 3. Is there a mechanism whereby people close to a topic can be kept in the loop and weigh in on edits, especially edits removing such information? I know there's a "notify me when page is edited" feature which sounds a bit like that, which has never worked for me for some reason, but this can be formalized.

Many film articles (see, e.g., Persona) use such frames for mere illustration, but if you believe it doesn't pass fair use then I guess no significant harm is done. Alternative medicine
Not sure if you're still interested in this page (it's been over a month) but i've left a brief whinge that sums up the major issue. i.e the page currently uses a non-standard definition and because it's an emotive topic it's impossible to get it changed whatever evidence is provided. An FAQ wouldn't be much help as this is really the only issue. Hi. I was considering making an article about Bosnian-Americans in St. Louis. However, I thought it might be good to include information on Serbs and Croats as well, since there doesn't seem to be enough information for three separate articles. What could that be titled? History of the Balkan peoples in St. Louis? History of the South Slavs in St. Louis? Or would it be best just to include information on Bosnians? Update: There are associations and other organizations for Bosnians, Croats, and Serbs. There is some overlap, but for the most part the organizations are separate. Many of these ex-Yugoslavs in St. Louis came during the 1990s as refugees. There are around 70,000 Bosnians in the city, but I can't find the numbers for Croats and Serbs. The tricky thing is that while many of the immigrants from Bosnia are ethnic Bosnians (Bosniaks/Muslims), some are Bosnian Croats (Catholics) or Bosnian Serbs (Orthodox). So while many are from the country of Bosnia, they may identify with Bosnians as a group or they may identify with their own particular Serb or Croat culture. Affirmative action in China
There is also a history of affirmative action in China for minorities. During the Qing dynasty, there were quotas for Miao, Yao and Muslim minorities on the Imperial examination especially after the 1784 rebellion by Jahriyya Sufi Muslims, (i'm working on the article about the 1781 and 1784 Jahriyya rebellions at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion, Elman's books here are focused on the examination system in China and he is not a specialist on Muslims in China like historians such as J. N. Lipman or M. Dillon, he mischaracterizes the 1784 rebellion as a "Muslim separatist" revolt (it consisted of mainly just sectarian violence with no intention of "secession", like modern day sectarian violence in Iraq, as the sources at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion show.
There is a case in the Taizong Shilu during the Yongle Emperor's reign about Mongol military officers exempted from administrative work because of their illiteracy and still getting paid, so some Chinese pretended to be Mongols to avoid doing work.
These are secondary sources for the illiterate Mongols being exempted from work which you can use in the article as a citation, since the primary source (the statement from the Taizong Shilu) should only be used as a quotation.

Uyghurs in Beijing
The first Uyghur community in Beijing dates to the Qing dynasty starting in the 18th century, when the Uyghur leaders like Emin Khoja of
Turfan allied and submitted to the Qing in order to fight against the Dzunghars in the Ten_Great_Campaigns#The_Zunghars_and_pacification_of_Xinjiang_.281755.E2.80.931759.29. The Qing then built a quarter for Uyghur aristocrats in Beijing near the Forbidden City and a community of them sprang up along with their followers.
Note that they weren't called "Uyghurs", because the name "Uyghur" was applied to these people in the 1920s, see Uyghur_people#Origin_of_modern_nationality. In contemporaneous western records in the 19th century, they called them "Turkish" or "Turk" (it was a common western habit to refer to all Turkic speaking peoples as Turkish until they came up with the word "Turkic" which is nowused in modern academia), and scholars today like Millward call them "East Turkestani" or "Altishahri" instead of Uyghur when referring to them before the 20th century, since calling them "Uyghur" would be an anachorism.
The Kumul Khan Maqsud Shah continued to visit Beijing up until the end of the Qing dynasty, to perform the rituals of submission and vassalage to the Qing Emperor.

Apparently his chair in Cambridge was renamed in honour of Joseph Needham in 2008 to Joseph Needham Professorship of Chinese History, Science, and Civilization, the current holder being Roel Sterckx. Maybe Sterckx is the best person to query about the available sources regarding Giles, Other eminent sinologists and he himself (Sterckx is definitely notable enough to deserve a GA/even FA). I am guessing that if we ask Sterckx about the potential biographical sources about him, he will not turn us down? (Which academic will not want to see his own page on the front page of Wikipedia!!) It was not until recently that I knew English editors can use same account on the Yoruba wiki. Should I continue to use the account on Yoruba Wikipedia, or do I need to do anything first. I out a speedy deletion tag and it was removed by the user Oshwah many times and now he's saying something very strange that a person doesn't have to be proven notable to be on Wikipedia, please see his comments on my talk page. The sources quoted are blogs and she has made no impact on the Nigerian music industry, has won no awards and is not known even in Nigeria. I have a first question, I am aware that France lacks "freedom of panorama". I experienced this myself when uploading a photo "File:Palais de Chaillot esplanade Statue.jpg" to the Wikimedia Commons which I then added to an article related to the Palais de Chaillot esplanade, it then got deleted as you may see here (and probably have guessed). Could you explain to me how I can "upload locally to the French and English Wikipedias" rather than uploading my pic to the commons?

I had a go at looking in the Swindon categories on Commons for editors that might be able to help, but drew a blank (a lot of the pictures I saw were from another website (geograph.org) and the editors I did find aren't around any more); I also had a look through the main editors on the Swindon page, but no-one rang a bell.
I've come across a couple of other moonrakers on WP but AFAIK none of them are in Swindon either. Still, If I think of anything else I'll give it a go.

Hi there. Sadly not. Edubase is so annoying, it clearly has the facility to list different 'types' of schools, yet will only let you search for mainstream types of schools. I similarly cannot get a list of Pupil Referral Units on Edubase, nor Special Post-16 providers, though they are listed on the databse, just not searchable (grrr). However, in your example, you may have better luck with the British Council - Thr British Council essentially is the body that awards 'British School' status to schools abroad (or at least, the Department for Education in UK awards status solely on their advice). The British Council also invigilates A-Levels and GCSEs taken abroad. So you may want to try their website to see if they have any info listed, it may be only listed by country though. Good luck! First, thank you for letting me know about your proposal. I do not have strong opinion on it. In ideal situation (where we would have articles about all major schools in Hungary) it would be the only rational option. However, once I was making this Template I noticed that there is not to much articles on this topic so I decided to put them all together, and to include only schools that have articles on English Wikipedia. With more templates we will have much more red links. Of course, it will give the reader information on all high school, but I avoided it back than from aesthetic point of view. Yeah when I made the page the high school was what I was focusing on, but I was under the impression that there were different departments of the same institution. Perhaps I was wrong. Hi dear, it's true that french is used usualy after arab language in Algeria. However Algerians are arab and berbere peoples and only arabic and berbere are officials. Yes French is still important in Algeria. However Arab language is also logicaly used in business and science, as well as university level education, on first. I understand that occident need to understand what is writen in latin language and because we are in english wikipedia, the english language is used. I don't see why french language as unnoficial must be used, arab language is official with berbere and arab is more important in the world then french (Top 10 Most Spoken Languages In The World).
What about aircraft crash accident reports, visibly you are right, I don't understand why arab language is not used, maybe and sadely, arab language is not used yet for these reports. Your asking Why is Arabic not used in aircraft crash accident reports? is a good and important initiative. I understand too your meaning about understanding a french terms concerning Algeria.
My vision is simple, for example, in Germany only german language is used, however if we wants to know more about this country we need to translate in the language adapted of anyone and the language more used for that is english. In India, english is an official language, in Nigeria there are many dialects (not languages), same as most of african sub saharian countries. I noticed back when Haley Barbour got elected, taking office in January 2004, that the MS prison system quickly became a porkfest. Ronnie Musgrove had been desperately trying to put the brakes on it, along with a number of legislators, but when he left office, it appeared sky was the limit. I particularly remember Musgrove possibly inventing, but certainly popularizing the term, "ghost beds." The state had already overbuilt, but at that point it was being taken to the cleaners. (Barbour also used Katrina recovery money to build the Adams County prison for CCA, if memory serves.) Now it is in unimaginably bad straits, with empty prisons both at Delta and Walnut Grove, and an incredible amount of debt load as a result. Walnut Grove was hugely expanded under Barbour. I guess we'll see when the other shoes drop. Without giving details, the USAG SM, referred to the kickbacks as going back to 2004, I think. I'll take care of what I assume was my error right away. I'll see if I mixed up McCrory and Simmons. Also, I didn't mention Tallahatchie, but Jerry Brown has been trying to bring prisoners back to California, which has had a big drop (like MS) in prison population, emptying Sayre, OK recently. So I expect Tallahatchie could close, leaving even more bonded indebtedness. CA also has prisoners in Pinal County, AZ, so I'm not sure which would be back sooner, if Brown can do that. I'm still not sure what the problem was with the citation. The Nave cite of 11/13/14 notes that McCrory got $12,000 a month from MTC. The Jeff Amy (AP) citation at the Daily Journal (DJ) from 6/13/16 notes that McCrory got $10,000 a month from GEO Group. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

You asked RadioKAOS about the district. I was editing the Minto article and noticed your inquiry. I assumed you want a picture of the District HQ, but you weren't clear. As you may have noticed, the district's website doesn't include any photos of the HQ, though it has pictures of staff persons. There is a remote shot, but it just shows an aerial view of the larger neighborhood. You may alternatively have wondered why the HQ is in Fairbanks. Check this URL and you'll see why. The total population of the villages it serves are all under 400, and some are under 100. All are somewhat isolated, including from each other, but a few are along the Iditarod (race) trail, the only few days of the years that much is going on in those places. If it is a photo you want, you could probably write to the district and they'd take and post one, or at least share it with you with permission for you to post it. I wasn't aware, but their HQ also shares space with one of the few administrative centers for the state-funded home schooling program. @Activist: Thanks for the notification. Unfortunately, my time for this has been relatively limited for going on the past 14 months, due to both career and health-related issues. When I have had enough time, it seems to get eaten up either by an endless series of contrived "controversies" or by WP:OWN editors who are looking for any excuse they can do undo my work and #### all over my good faith. Anyway, I no longer remember what I did or didn't say about this when I was first asked, but I took and uploaded a photo to Commons roughly two-and-a-half years ago, which is at File:Yukon-Koyukuk School District offices.JPG.
As to what Activist spoke about: first, the headquarters technically isn't in Fairbanks, but rather within the census-designated place boundaries of College roughly a quarter-mile west of Fairbanks city limits. That may only be important if the intent is to refer to it in the article on Fairbanks. We say at the very beginning that it's an article about the city of Fairbanks, but every editor who comes along appears to have their own arbitrary definition of what Fairbanks is, often bearing little relation to what's clearly defined through sources. Second, the state government performed a comprehensive overhaul of the educational structure in 1975, due to a combination of the Hootch and Tobeluk cases, the elimination of the separate military school districts in the Anchorage, Fairbanks and Kodiak areas, and the elimination of a state-operated central school serving those outside of existing districts. In rural areas, the legislature created the Unorganized Borough School District, obstensibly overseen by the legislature, though in reality they have always taken a hands-off approach to much of anything having to do with the Unorganized Borough apart from occasionally proposing new organized boroughs. This "school district" was divided into 20+ REAAs (rural education attendance areas), of which YKSD is one. Here's the central point to all this. Alaska has two classes of city governments, which deliniates things like city structure, election and terms of officials and the services these cities provide. State law requires that first-class cities in the Unorganized Borough operate city school districts separate from their surrounding REAAs. In YKSD's region, the largest cities are Galena, Nenana and Tanana, all three of which are first-class cities. So Activist is spot-on correct in mentioning that the district serves communities lacking in both infrastructure and population, henceforth making it attractive to locate its headquarters in a place which isn't so lacking and is "centralized" in the sense that next-door Fairbanks International Airport is the most obvious connecting point for these communities. Otherwise, Galena is an administrative headquarters of sort for the area like Fort Yukon is for the area upriver, and would have made a likely spot for district headquarters if not for the requirement that they operate their own school district. Regarding his residence, as listed in the infobox, the purpose of the "residence" infobox entry is to show where one lives in civilian life, not in prisoner life. Prisons are not built to serve as residences, per se; their purpose is to keep criminals locked up, and away from their homes. One's place of incarceration is already designated to be listed elsewhere in the infobox, under "conviction_status." Listing that same info under "residence" would therefore be redundant. JSYK. While you've certainly made some good points, it should be noted that Fogle does not have a life sentence or a death sentence; thus, he is expected to get out of prison eventually, and either return to his last city of residence (usually the default for many prisoners) or go live elsewhere if he so chooses. And he does still have family that can contact him while he's in prison (though in the case of his children, he can only see them either with supervision or through a plate glass separator). Besides, if his prison cell location did count as a "residence," then there shouldn't even be an infobox entry for "residence" at all. However, I hope the article will be expanded and, when it is, there are two reasons why I think the page deserves to be separate:
First, in general, I believe city school boards deserve a page because they are the groups of elected officials who make decisions about large amounts of public funds and having Wikipedia pages on the subject increases the transparency of information and decreases the asymmetry of information re: both the elected officials and the office they hold.

Formerly two independent articles, Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Gabon and the current which was solely used for a hospital in Haiti that share the same name (both use French as an official language) has recently had the contents of Gabon's hospital merged with the Haiti article. Prior to the merge I did not even know it was taking place, for whatever reason. Opposing editor and I differ on whether the two hospitals are independent. Montrose and Neartown merge?
Should the Houston Neartown article be merged into the Montrose article? Montrose seems to be the preferred description of the same area. The new signage calls the area Montrose, not Neartown. Newspapers and TV reports also refer to the area as Montrose, not Neartown. For what it is worth, I have not heard anyone refer to Montrose as Neartown in the last ten years. Hi. I came here to post a couple of links about the Adak schools. By the time the page finished loading, I'd almost forgotten.
Anyway, while one can't say this directly because it would be WP:SYNTH, the naval station's closure caused a major drop in population, and fewer people=fewer schools. This public health assessment says "In 1990, the Naval Complex was occupied by 5,600 people (2,800 military)...By March 31, 1997, most military personnel had left. April 1, 1997, Adak entered into caretaker status with a staff of 10 Navy personnel and approximately 200 civilians as contractor employees."
This EIR says there were 551 students and 37 teachers. By 2014, they only had 25 according to the city of Adak.

I looked at your first couple of edits on the Epps article. That Buntin material has been in there for years. I never even noticed that it didn't have an infobox. I've never looked at it closely. I think the only thing I found interesting in his family life was his mom's position, which I noticed a couple of years ago. I'm guessing that he came from a very well educated household not much removed from the James Farmer/James Meredith era, in the Deep South, which was remarkable. I'll take a look at the rest. I spent a lot of time, which I really couldn't spare, bringing the Operation Mississippi Hustle up to date, interested in it mainly because of the corruption, and went back and forth from there. However, it was so tedious that I figured I'd get back to the Epps article when and if I had the time. I recall that you and I discussed the Parchman article maybe a couple of years ago. I was interested in the terracing of the farm (which might have been done with mules and plows, not all that many decades ago) from surface contour or aerial maps, and you noted the huge amount of acreage, I think. In the OMH article, I found a couple of mistakes of facts in the source articles. When I do that I often send a note to the reporters and they usually thank me and change them so the web version is correct. I'll go back and look at your subsequent edits and comments. P.S. I meant to correct the sentence length. Two or more reporters who covered the story mentioned that Epps would be doing almost 20 years. However, there was a typo in one story that was copied into Wikipedia about it: It said Wingate gave him "325" months. It was actually 235 months. Also, the reporter figured that as "19.7" years. Obviously, it rounds up to 19.6 years. The Gates story had video with a crawl that confirmed the 235 figure. Sheesh! I meant to check it on PACER, but hadn't gotten around to it. I don't like to download many docs because they don't charge you for under $15 worth per calendar quarter, and occasionally I pull transcripts which can get spendy. P.P.S. Whichever reporter or his paper that had written the story and had the typo, "325," rather than "235" months for the Epps sentence, spotted the mistake and not only corrected it in the original, for the Clarion-Ledger, but also for the wire services that picked up the story from Gannett or AP (Jimmie Gates or Jeff Amy, I think) and it's corrected everywhere I looked, so the Wikipedia article citations are now directing to revised, accurate stories. This edit to the article for the Lower Cape May Regional School District quotes a report that says that the district was paying $50,000 per student, nearly triple the state average. The statement made no sense, both in terms of my knowledge of spending numbers in the state and the data from the 2014 Taxpayers' Guide to Education Spending cited in the Wikipedia article that says that the district spends $21,740 per pupil. A more careful read of the report shows that it cites this article as its source. What that article says is that the city of Cape May bears a disproportionate share of the costs of the district due to comparatively higher property rateables and fewer students as a percentage of the population than the other constituent municipalities, especially Lower Township. This has nothing to do with the cost of education for each student, which is not $50,000; what it has to do is with the equity of the funding formula in the district. I will edit the article to reflect the content of the source from the Cape May County Herald, not the report from the Center for American Progress that misinterprets that article. I am looking for feedback about the utility of this template (Template:Society Hill, Philadelphia). I attempted to edit its layout to better organize this template according to Society Hill Civic Association quadrants, but I resorted to just starting from scratch here: Template:Society Hill. I had been constantly reverted across projects since 2016, which I presumed was done by the same user since the IPs they used are either from the same range or location (like 36.234.0.0/16 and 101.8.0.0/13). I decided not to place this speedy; I thought at first they were another batch of promotional articles for dentists, but I see that is not the case. @DGG: It's a tough situation; ordinarily an article shouldn't be overly negative, but the media reliable source coverage for the likes of All Smiles Dental Centers and Small Smiles Dental Centers (both defunct) were almost universally negative, just like coverage of Bernie Madoff. If the vast majority of RS'es are about accused fraud/etc that's not an attack article.
In the case of South Texas Dental I didn't see as much negative coverage on them; they're just the guys who took over all the All Smiles places when that chain closed.
might it be better to merge? Usually we merge into the later company, but if the earlier one is the most notable, perhaps that's better? I saw these because I am trying to s=do something about promotional and other dubious entries for dentists, dermatologists, etc. Are you interested in this field, of just accidentallly found these? @DGG:, it could be possible to do a merge; I think a discussion outlining the two options would be best since the situation is complicated. All Smiles Dental Centers is certainly notable; it was the small company and no longer exists. South Texas Dental existed before All Smiles (there was no rename) and they took over the remaining practices, but they got little press coverage.
There was a wave of large dental companies (national and statewide) which had Medicaid families as customer bases forming circa the mid-2000s, and after then some of the practices were accused of Medicaid fraud by news media and/or by customers; the US government intervened in some of these cases. I read newspaper articles about some of these practices (Small Smiles and All Smiles were the two that generated the most media coverage) and used the articles as the bases of the Wikipedia articles. In fact there's a Congressional report (Alternate link) that talks about how Small Smiles (CSHM) was accused of fraud, and it also discusses ReachOut Healthcare America
One important thing is that I made sure Spanish versions of some articles were started; this is because many of the Medicaid families affected were low income immigrants from Latin America who had poor English comprehension. The boy who was documented in Roberta Baskin's report was a Hispanic boy from Langley Park, Maryland.

IIRC, a few years ago you had sent a message asking about contributions to Wiki: ES. (My attempt to archive my talk page is a big fail: the bot removed the old content, but there is no archive.) Lately I have been reading SP and FR wikis, and my competency for those languages is picking up, though much of it really depends on the subject. I have been able to read some of the Spanish-language sources enough to edit the EN articles, and I have even made a few light edits of a few SP articles related to Mexico. One of the main challenges is finding reliable and stable sources of Mexican-related content over the Internet, which hinders the development of those articles.
You are listed at WikiProject Houston. Do you know if this project is active? Most of the editors listed there are no longer active on Wikipedia, and I cannot see that there any project-functions being executed since about 3-4 years ago, for example, page assessment, coordination of page improvement, and articles requested. I have made attempts to engage the group, and these have been roundly ignored. OTOH, some of the editors listed at the project page are very strong. Do you have any insight?
1. As for WikiProject Houston I and User:RJN may be the only active editors left. As Wikipedia matured there are fewer long term editors...
* One thing that IMO would really help are Spanish-language articles on the METRORail stops.
2. I wonder how many Mexican libraries or newspapers have their microfilms open. Getting access to microfilm content could be a way of getting around this issue...
Many of the editors with the oldest identities at WikiProject Houston never made many edits, unless they were maintaining multiple accounts. I think much of the activity there prior to 2008 involved engagement of the local experts writing unsourced material (even if it was often true). Do you know who organized it and if they are still on WP?
I have made one sad little edit on the Monterrey transit system. Here is the diff: [31]. All I did is find a new source and instantiate a new number for buses in their fleet. By reading these SP wiki articles, I am acquiring the vocabulary for writing about transit. Metrorrey, the Spanish name for the system in Monterrey, is amidst scrutiny from the local press about where the money has gone and for what. Local officials had announced that a third fixed-guideway line, a mostly elevated line would be operational. This article [32] explains that 600 million pesos have been appropriated this year for Linea 3 for building stations and elevated track. Metrorrey has not even taken bids for the new railcars [33], which are not interchangeable with the other two lines. There is still a Nuevo Leon web page up [34] claiming a completion date of August 2015. Such is the problem with researching some of these article.
One of the questions I have about writing articles for rail stations is about citation standards. I could raise the same question about descriptions of highways. See Houston#Roadways, second paragraph. I see unsourced write-ups describing freeways, but I don't see that content being tagged. The unsourced articles describing transit stations are all tagged. 2. Yeah, much of the issues often have to deal with conflicting sources. That's why I use {{Asof|}} to show that facts and figures were stated as of that date, and or using the wording "... is/was scheduled to..."
3. I haven't worked on rail projects that much, but for general subjects the main question is "is it likely to be challenged?" - If you think someone may dispute the figure or may really want a source for the info, it's better to cite it. In reality I believe about 90% of what I contribute has a citation.
@WhisperToMe: 1. I had listed my name at WikiProject Houston about three or four years ago, when the group still seemed to be active. I removed my identity from the list after not being contacted for an extended period of time. I made a few other postings to the project page with no response. Now I realize that other WikiProjects are the same way: they do not contact the newbies. This is something I should bring up to the WikiProjects. It's not a project without collaboration, and people who are not able to collaborate with other in the group are not effectively a part of the project. That's a problem because these are missed opportunities: collaboration can create synergies.

3. You have been around much longer, but I am just now starting to appreciate various interpretations of verifiability and citing sources. I edit mostly historical articles, so, aside from the lede, I only write when I provide or re-purpose a citation. Every statement is backed up with a source, though I do not provide a unique citation for every statement. For a paragraph with statements a,b,c,d,e and inline citation C1, I will typically write a,b,c,d,eC1, where C1 supports all five statements, sometimes expressed as a small page range from a book. If I add to a paragraph, I might click through a citation in a paragraph with a,b,d,eC1, find support for new material, then I add c resulting in paragraph a,b,c,d,eC1. If I write statement c, which fits the middle of the narrative of the paragraph, but not supported by C1, I amend the paragraph to a,bC1,cC2,d,eC1. Often I have seen editors (and too often at Houston in the past) amend a paragraph a,b,d,eC1 without a new citation and without support from the existing citation to a,b,c,d,eC1. This creates a deception, even if unintentional, that c is supported by C1. I now revert edits like this if I cannot find support from the source referred to by the citation. None of this addresses the interpretation of you and many other experienced editors who cite verifiability in principle rather than verifiability in fact. I fall hard on the verifiability in fact because it's required for the content I typically write. Anything historical can be challenged. Yep, 3. is one of the greatest issues with Wikipedia. A lot of people don't understand that they need a new ref, and the editing system doesn't tell them this! In my experience that stuff is unintentional. "Anything historical can be challenged." is definitely true; when I write history articles I cite just about everything.
WhisperToMe: Do you agree that WikiProjects Houston is inactive or semi-active? Do you agree that Houston-related articles would benefit if WikiProjects Houston were more active? Is that something you are willing to organize? If not, do you think PostOak would come back, or is there another experienced editor who would do a good job? @Oldsanfelipe: I would say between "inactive" and "semi-active". The collaboration part is inactive, but the principals are still editing Houston-related articles on Wikipedia. I'd have to talk to Postoak and see what kinds of goals we'd have. I think a lot of the efforts were on building the content of Houston-related articles. There are many Houston-related articles which could use improvement. Are there less experienced editors who can be a part of that process by improving their skills? The assessment system could be a tool for improving Houston-related articles and the skills of people who are interested in Houston-related content. Just collaborating on proofreading and copy editing would be helpful to many editors. Again, I am one who would benefit from the help. But I also think I could help with assessments. Certainly people find ways to collaborate in a more organic way: that's generally how Wikipedia works. @Rei Momo: Thanks for the tip! In this case it's fine to call him black as the Brazilian and Spanish newspapers do so. In the United States "colored" comes across as being a very old-fashioned way of referring to black people (although "people of color" is still used to collectively refer to all people who are not non-Hispanic/Latino White people). The word "colored" still appears in the names of some older organizations such as the NAACP. I am active on Romanian Wikipedia and on Commons, but I don't know well the particular guidelines of English Wikipedia. Romanian Wikipedia has started a project to translate some articles into English, a project addressed to university students. They have chosen one of our proposed topics, which we know how an article should be on Wikipedia. Although I explained how to post the translated article, in both cases that have been posted so far, these articles have reached the draft namespace, like this. Is it a common fact for a new user first article? What should be done to prevent this from happening?

@Turbojet: Hi! It's just fine for them to use the draft space! When the article's ready it can be moved to the mainspace. As for moving articles, you have the right to move an article from the draft space to the mainspace if/when it's finished/has all of the notability issues worked out. My understanding is that some people choose to move an article from the main space to the draft space if they realize it's not finished and want to work on it some more, but that should only be done if the person moving it/working on it was the only person to have edited the article. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). St Olave's Grammar School:Push-pin map
In this case I don't find the map selection helpful. It would be marginally less disruptive if the Greater London Map was the default. The map is over prominent- and barely relates to the article. Olaves has limited contact with LBB- but sees itself as a London institution, the UK map is superfluous for London. The amount of map selection text is huge in comparison with the essential items in the Infobox. Re this edit Saw your message earlier. I saw from your user page that you lived in Shenzhen and were active in the WPHK before I reversed the edit. My argument is that, since Simp is not used in HK, there really is no reason to add it to pages that are purely HK-specific pages, just like I would argue there was no reason for adding Trad to pages that were about China-specific topics (it's a bit different for things that predate the invention of Simp, for obvious reasons). I feel it's misleading by adding it to the page since it's not an accepted usage, or one that people can expect to encounter, in that context. Wikipedia not being a dictionary, it doesn't seem to me to be relevant. I checked the Chinese Naming Conventions page and discussion, and it seems that there isn't any clear guideline on this as yet, so I'd be keen to hear if you have a different take on it. --Kdm852 (talk) 07:51, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Kdm852: Thanks for the response! I agree it would be a good idea to open a line of inquiry about it. One concern of mine is that many non-Chinese confuse the Trad and Simp characters, so even though Wikipedia isn't a dictionary, I still think it's good for clarification purposes. Secondly, while HK locals dont use Traditional characters (the only times I've seen them on the MTR was on the East Rail Line to the border) Mainlanders do sometimes use Trad characters to make a location or place seem fancy (like using cursive in English). Most people reading Wikipedia don't read the talk pages, and therefore don't read the assessments. IMO the best way to grow a WikiProject is to make WikiProjects more visible to newbies. User:WhisperToMe, Thanks for engaging me in this discussion. I am sure that you know much about the workings of the WikiProjects that I cannot imagine. However, I think you are overweighting the goal of recruiting new editors. Sometimes the answer is both and all of the above. I have two analogies that are somewhat dissimilar to the WikiProject situation, but similar enough in certain aspects to be helpful as explanations. One is voter registration versus get out the vote. Obviously, you can only vote if you are registered, so voter registration drives are necessary. Yet you cannot ignore registered voters just because they have voted in the past, therefore, there are get out the vote campaigns. You need to register voters, but you need to serve people who have already voted. The second analogy is a poorly frequented restaurant. Advertising for new business is probably necessary, but ultimately fruitless without giving good service. You cannot wait for new business to provide good service. You must serve current customers. WikiProject Houston has some active editors who have signed up for the project, but not (as far as I can tell) receiving any support from the project. There are other editors, who like me, are creating and editing articles under the scope of the project, but without project support. You cannot assume that because people have voted before that they will vote in the next election. A few customers in a restaurant cannot sustain you, but you still need to take their orders. They could also turn out to be people who will refer new clientele. Finding new editors will not help if the project page is three years out of date and nobody is monitoring the project's talk page, for example. I signed up for the project three or four years ago and requested assessments. After never receiving a response from the project, I removed my name from the list. @Oldsanfelipe: Despite being here for a long time I've never done assessments. I've focused solely on article creation.
I think much of what's happened is that a lot of the previous WikiProject Houston posters have gotten busy, grown up, and gotten new jobs/marriages to worry about. There just aren't a ton of people watching the talk page. If you're referring to this Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Houston#Assessing_articles - I don't think there is/was one. You just find one of the contacts and ask him/her to help you. I probably should have paid more attention to the project page, but I got busy with other stuff. If you want, show me some articles you want me to assess and I can have a stab at it.
WhisperToMe My point is not: I cannot get my pages assessed, therefore I will be satisfied if my pages are assessed. My point is that page assessment is one of several important WikiProject functions, and one I was offering to help with. I also imagined, based on the number of requests for assessments across all projects, that there is demand for such an initiative. On another note, it would be difficult to reactivate the project without some kind of cooperation and counsel from the previous administrators of the project. This does not appear to be forthcoming. WhisperToMe, I wouldn't need to consult with the previous page assessors. I can assess pages stub through b-class. That's the easy part. I would expect that anyone reviving the project would take advice from the editors who created and edited the templates. Also, they would want to pick their brains about general matters. It's smart to try to access institutional memory. But it appears that nobody wants to step into those roles. It sounds like you want to make it into a task force of WikiProject Texas. @Oldsanfelipe: I'd like to get the institutional memory and advice of the old timers too, but a lot just seem to have moved on. User:Postoak (who seems to be the guy who started this project) blanked his userpage last February. If you'd like I could try e-mailing some of them just in a last-ditch attempt to see if they're up for reviving it as a standalone project. Remember though that making this a task force means it's still going on, just with less administrative load. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Guide/Task_forces#Converting_existing_projects_to_task_forces talks about the process of converting a project into a task force. Hi WhisperToMe, hope you're well and not sure if you remember me, but I'm sure you'll remember me from the TfD Infobox UK school merger discussion that we had a while back. The merger was a success which I'm sure you'll have noticed. During the merge discussion process, we produced an "after-merge ideas" section (now renamed to "Infobox cleanup" after revamping the entire section) on the Infobox school talk page with improvements to the infobox, such as merging and removing parameters. This is basically a full cleanup of the infobox and I was wondering if you'd be interested in joining in the discussion? There's already parameters listed which you'll just need to comment on if you agree or not to help build consensus and if there's anything you have you can just add to the relevant subsection. There will be a bot run once the discussion has finished that will go through all the transclusions. While there are many Preston's and many public schools, I dont know of any others with the specific name "Preston Public School" (usually in the US the name is such and such "Elementary School"). Also I created the article at "Preston Public School" and created he later as s redirect. Anyhow I will check with the Oklahoma Department of Education to see if that's truly the official site.
